I'm not quite sure what to think of this madness, but I approve.

[X] "If this Lockseed's as good as you say it is... Why don't we go all in, pay Baron a visit?"

Wait, how does time traveling homura work with

Time traveling Mai. Because it sounds like Homura reset before the time that Mai would have attempted to adjust the time-stream from, unless I have Gaim's timeline incredibly wrong.

Also Mai wasn't able to change the future, even with the power of the forbidden fruit.

Oh wait, shit. What would happen if Mai became a magical girl? I mean, her potential must be gigantic.

Aight so upon further consideration and no longer operating an incorrect assumption, OOW's pretty convincing.

[X] "You know, I think Danza usually claims the closest stage. How's an Inves compare to a Magical Girl?"

[X] "Let's go see Hase. I want to see the look on his face once I'm done with him."

Good on you Sayaka for triggering everyone's anxiety to hell and back like only a true hero could :V

RIP Lichte's hopes and dreams, the day Baron takes the stage is pushed back even further into the future. :V

Update 7 - Gardener
[X] "You know, I think Danza usually claims the closest stage. How's an Inves compare to a Magical Girl?"

The tune that was playing from the stage as Madoka and her friends walked in was a catchy one, she had to admit. It wouldn't be out of place in a magical girl anime, so it was rather fitting theme, for Team Danza.

Looking at the girls dancing on the stage, Madoka noted that the line-up had changed again. There had been another dancer on the stage the last time Madoka had checked, a week or so ago, but they had dropped to three members since then. Danza was notorious for bringing in new members and then losing them, but Madoka had never understood why. It wasn't as if the team had a focus on dancing ability, and their leader didn't seem like she was the kind of person to drive them away...

Maybe it was a magical girl thing? Most people to join Team Danza did end up being magical girls, after all.

The group stopped at the back of the crowd watching the team dance. The girl in the front of the stage was a familiar blonde. The leader of Team Danza, and the one member who had been in it for as long as it existed. She hadn't partaken in many Inves games lately, and Madoka was somewhat hoping that it would still be the case today. She hadn't lost very many.

Behind her, to the left, was a smaller girl, a more recent addition to the team and the current youngest Beat Rider there was. She was an... Odd one, Madoka felt. She'd move around in bursts, taking a moment to see what the blonde magical girl was doing and then repeating the motion herself, only with less grace and more uncontrolled motion. She seemed like she was having fun, though.

The third member was one that had been on Danza for a while, but never really seemed to leave an impression. She wore the same jacket as the other two, a fancy, frilly thing that wouldn't look out of place in a magical girl anime- A recurring pattern with Danza, Madoka was noticing- And compared to the bright yellow-blonde of the girl in front and the white of the smaller girl, her brown hair just didn't seem to stand out.

"There they are." Sayaka noted. "So, are we doing this?"

Madoka nodded.

"Well, let's go then." Hitomi noted. "Akemi, are you going to join..."

She trailed off, as she looked back towards Homura. Madoka turned her head as well, to see the reason for Hitomi's silence.

Homura was staring at the stage, but her expression was... Not what Madoka would have expected. Homura had been a bit of a jumpy person, and someone who backed down from any sort of pressure, so her looking spooked was something that wouldn't be too surprising. What was, though, was the mix of emotion she was displaying. Her face was pale, her hand shaking slightly, exhibits that Madoka would usually associate with terror.

But that look in her eye was the sort of baleful glare that reflected a sort of anger that Madoka hadn't thought Homura capable of.

"...Are you okay?" Madoka asked, stepping forward and resting her hand on Homura's shoulder. The dark-haired girl blinked, and stepped back suddenly, looking towards Madoka.

"I..." She began, before instantly trailing off. "...Sorry."

"Do you know someone up there?" Madoka asked, softly. Homura muttered something Madoka couldn't hear over the sound of the music, and a second latter, nodded.

"It's okay." Madoka assured her. "Just stand back here, and we'll take care of it. If you need to go, I can just give you a call when we're done to let you know how it went."

"...Thank you..." Homura muttered under her breath, before taking a step back. She pulled out her phone at that moment, but didn't look at it.

"Oh, right." Hitomi noticed herself. "I'll tune into Sagara's stream. He might have something important to say."

The green-haired girl pulled out her own phone, and Sayaka thumbed the Strawberry Lockseed for a moment.

"Let's do this, then." Sayaka noted. "Madoka, do you wanna do the honours?"

...Perhaps she should, Madoka decided. Sayaka would get the crowd's attention the moment they were done anyway. Stepping away from the crowd, and noticing that Homura backed further away from it as Madoka left, the pink-haired girl circled the area, and approached the stage from the side, Out of sight. The set-up to play the music was right there, where anyone could touch it, and it was traditional for a Beat Rider challenge to start this way if the music was playing.

Stepping up to the machine, Madoka hit the stop button. The disk with Danza's music popped out of the machine, and the music cut short with something resembling a record scratch. The brown-haired and blonde dancers stopped immediately, and it took a moment for the white-haired girl to follow suit, as they looked around.

They noticed Madoka briefly, but before Madoka could even really start getting concerned, the crowd parted and Sayaka, with Hitomi beside her, stepped forward.

"Team Danza, huh?" Sayaka asked, trying to put on airs. "Nice stage you got here. Must be a nice place to dance."

The girl in the front stepped forward, looking at Sayaka as she did so.

"It really is." She confirmed. "Are you here to ask to step on as well? I'm sorry to say, Danza doesn't usually take recruits on reque-"

"Wha?" Sayaka asked. "No! I'm a Beat Rider! I'm here to challenge you!"

"Oh!" The blonde girl at the front replied. Then she paused, looking Sayaka up and down. "...Are you sure?"

"What does that mean?" Sayaka asked. "Are you saying-"

"Ah, I didn't mean any offence." The magical girl replied. "It's just... Don't teams usually have jackets? Other than school uniforms?"

"Outfits are hard to co-ordinate and we haven't decided on a design yet." Sayaka huffed, looking annoyed. She held up the Strawberry Lockseed. "My name is Miki Sayaka, representing Team Berry. I'm here to claim this stage."

The girl at the front took a moment to look at the Lockseed, before looking back at Sayaka's face. "Very well, then."

She stepped away from centre stage, walking away from Madoka. Sayaka and Hitomi climbed on to the stage opposite of the blonde girl, as the rest of Team Danza followed their leader, and the pink-haired girl moved to stand behind her friends.

"Do you want to deal with this one, Nagisa?" Madoka heard the blonde girl say to her teammates. "This might be a good learning experience, under more controlled-"

"Ah..." The white-haired girl spoke up. "...I don't wanna fight an Inves, Mami. They're creepy."

The blonde girl, Mami apparently, turned to the girl with brown hair. "Hana?"

The brown haired girl sighed. "I suppose I could use some practice..."

She stepped forward, pulling a Lockseed out of her pocket as she did so, and flashed green. As the light faded, her frilly jacket vanished, replaced by a green dress. She held a pair of gardening shears in her left hand, even as she held the Lockseed in her right.

From Hitomi's phone, the voice of DJ Sagara started to speak. "And we have a game on our hands, boys and girls! On one side, we have Miki from Team Berry! It's a shock to see her back after her humiliating defeat yesterday-"

"Nobody asked you!" Sayaka shouted, eliciting a chuckle from the audience."

"-But she's certainly a go-getter. But her opponent isn't to be underestimated either. Even if Team Danza has better options, Yuki isn't to be underestimated. Magical Girls are dangerous, folks, even with the special rules."

"For those of you who are new to a Magical Girl variant on the Inves game, the rules in this regard are simple. The Lockseed, for the Magical Girl, serves as a permit that allows them to enter the arena, and designates them as the combatant. While stronger than the average Inves, a Magical Girl will only take so many hits before the Lockseed declares a loss. Removing the Lockseed from their person is also an option."

Hana tapped the Lockseed against a small green gem that was hanging on a chain around her neck, and attached the actual locking mechanism next to it on the chain.

As she stepped into the arena, Sayaka popped the lock on her own device.

The crack that ripped itself over the sky inside the holographic arena was the same size as was in the alley, and the crowd let out a small gasp at that. Then, the Inves leapt out, and the Magical Girl took a step back in shock at the difference.

She had been expecting to be facing against the regular sized Inves, presumably. Those things were smaller than the garden shears she was holding, and it would have been fairly easy to cut them in half once it had the Inves in it's grip. But this thing...

It was more humanoid, for a start. It was tall, and the antler-like appendages on it's head made it look even taller, but it appeared to have human-like proportions to it. It's body appeared somewhat armoured. A blue pattern trailed across it's body, somewhat like veins.

"...That's new." Yuki noted, as she held her shears in both hands. And with that, she charged.

The Inves, under Sayaka's control, stepped to the side, avoiding the Magical Girl's charge. The girl let one hand drift from her shears as she passed the Inves, pointing at the ground beneath it, and a bolt of green magic struck the ground.

She stumbled at the end of the charge, and the Inves rushed to take advantage of the weakness, before the Magical Girl ripped her free hand upwards. The concrete at the Inves' feet cracked, and a large vine suddenly emerged from the ground. It wrapped around the Inves' leg, and Sayaka swore as the beast under her control stumbled. It gained it's footing and ripped away from the vines after a moment, but it was enough for the Magical Girl to recover.

The vines kept growing, and lunged at the Inves suddenly. They began wrapping around it's body more and more, and it fell to it's knees as it was bound. Sayaka watched for a moment, but didn't seem worried.

The garden-themed Magical Girl stepped forward, as roses bloomed on the vines, and held the garden shears in both hands. She took a moment to line it up with the Inves' neck, as she prepared to finish it.

"Got you." Sayaka whispered.

The Inves ripped from it's bindings suddenly, using one hand to knock aside the shears and ruin the Magical Girl's balance. It raised it's other hand at the Magical Girl, going for her neck, and the vines and roses shot up to whip at the arm, and force it away. As the arm fell, the Inves tilted it's head, and it's antlers cut forward.

The Magical Girl cried out as her dress ripped, and the Inves' antlers caught on her chain.

The Magical Girl dropped her shears, and stepped forward. The antler stabbed at her cheek as she did so, and Yuki punched forward. The Inves was knocked back, and as it's antler pulled at the the chain, the sudden movement backwards at such speed caused it to snap.

With her current position, Madoka couldn't see the Magical Girl's expression as it happened. But as the gem and Lockseed fell from the air, she ignored the Lockseed completely, instead jumping for her green gem. As she caught the brightly shining green gem, the Lockseed hit the ground, and she snarled. A hand pointed at the Inves, concrete cracked, and the Inves screeched-

"And we have a winner!"

The Lockseed on the ground suddenly flew at Sayaka, who caught it with her free hand, a second before the Magical Girl's thorns shot from out of the stage. They ripped upwards, digging into the Inves' body and ensnaring it's limbs. It struggled, even as it was restrained, and managed to rip it's left arm free. As it moved the limb, much slower than before, the holographic arena faded away, and the crack appeared over it's head again.

It continued to struggle against the thorns, until the Magical Girl sighed. The thorns vanished, and the Inves leapt into the crack, which vanished behind it.

"Congratulations to Miki from Team Berry!" DJ Sagara announced. The Magical Girl held her gem in the sun, as if examining the now much darker gem closely, and Sayaka turned to Madoka and Hitomi with a grin on her face.

"A short battle that may have been, but an exciting one nonetheless." Sagara continued. "Our dear Magical Girl's final display, though too late to save the match after dropping her Lockseed, was certainly something the Inves game hadn't seen before. And that new, advanced Inves that Team Berry had to call upon! I would dare say that either of these displays of power today would have been enough to overcome even Team Baron's strength."

There was a cheer from the crowd, and a round of applause. Sayaka threw Hitomi and Madoka her two new Lockseeds, and turned to the crowd to bow, basking in the praise.

Beside her, Team Danza was conversing about something. Their leader, Mami, seemed concerned about something, but Madoka couldn't hear what they were talking about. She passed something to Hana, and the brown haired girl wandered off at the same time.

"This is sure to upset the rankings, folks." DJ Sagara continued. "With Team Berry's underdog victory, as well as this interesting new Inves of theirs, they've shot up the ranks. There's not many teams ahead of them right now! A shocking turnaround from yesterday's performance!"

Sayaka finished bowing to the crowd, and turned back to Madoka and Hitomi. "It worked! We did it!"

"Congratulations, Sayaka." Hitomi clapped as she spoke. "How was it?"

Sayaka rubbed the back of her head, and smiled. "Ah, it was no trouble. Real good Lockseed, there. Inves surprised me."

"I suppose you were lucky that the Magical Girl didn't use that technique before the end, though." Hitomi noted. "...Though it is odd. I don't think I've seen a technique like it before..."

"Ah, you wouldn't have."

The three girls looked towards the speaker, and the leader of team Danza beamed at them.

"Ah, pardon my manners." The girl continued. "I'm Tomoe Mami. Call me whatever you feel comfortable with."

"...Hey, Tomoe." Sayaka waved. "Uh, what's up?"

"Not much." Tomoe replied. "I just overheard what you were talking about, and was going to join the conversation. If that's alright with you, I mean."

"I don't have an issue with it." Sayaka continued. She looked around, and not seeing any complaints from Madoka or Hitomi, Sayaka continued. "So, why wouldn't we have seen that thing at the end there before?"

"Ah, Hana's thorn trick?" Mami asked, for confirmation. Sayaka nodded, and Tomoe continued. "It's a taxing ability to use, and not usually worth it in an Inves game. She probably might have won without going that far if she hadn't been concerned about overexerting herself."

"Huh." Sayaka noted. "I thought Magical Girls were more secretive than this, usually."

Tomoe nodded at that.

"That's fair." She replied. "I'm merely curious myself. I don't believe I've ever seen a Lockseed or Inves like that before, and a friend of mine has been curious about Inves for some time."

"Really?" Hitomi asked.

Tomoe nodded.

"Do you three have any time to spare?" She asked, after a moment. "Perhaps we could satisfy each other's curiosity, over a cup of tea."

"...A cup of tea could be nice..." Hitomi noted. "But then, we didn't get to dance yesterday, so perhaps we should take the opportunity now..."

"What d'you think, Madoka?" Sayaka asked. Madoka blinked, as Sayaka suddenly made her the deciding factor again, and Madoka took a moment to think about it.

[X] Mami did seem nice, and it would be kind of rude to turn the offer down. Perhaps it might be worth going for tea for a little while.
[X] Even ignoring the dancing, Madoka had seen Homura's reaction to Team Danza. Perhaps she should decline, for Homura's sake if nothing else.

They're in it for the dancing.

Not the networking.

So dance, dance the nightday away!

...I was not expecting this of all things. I thought Danza would result in Homu being our fighter, not Sayaka

And it looks like my worries were for naught. I really need to give Sayaka some slack, she IS genuinely a good and capable person. She just needs to work past her issues badly.

But that look in her eye was the sort of baleful glare that reflected a sort of anger that Madoka hadn't thought Homura capable of.
Oh?

May not be so Moemura as we thought?

None of the dancers besides mami match anyone I can immediately think of that would get this reaction (I see Nagisa though, god to know no Charlotte yet). Is Homura angry over the Tetris Scenario?

The only other thing I could think of that would make her this level of angry would be either Kyubey, Sayaka going full "Hero of Justice!", or Oriko/Kirika, but none of these girls seem to fit-

The garden-themed Magical Girl stepped forward, as roses bloomed on the vines, and held the garden shears in both hands. She took a moment to line it up with the Inves' neck, as she prepared to finish it.

Oh that explains it

This must be the magical girl that becomes ... I think its name is Gertrud? The first witch seen in series?

And her name is Hana... Flower...

Mort, you are not subtle at all.

I dont see the surprise behind Homura being capable of deep seated rage and hatred.

Like.

No way she would have gone down the path she did if she wasn't capable of extraordinary spite, you know?

Oh capable of it sure

But it only really ever came up with people who were in some way heavily responsible for Madoka dying. So Sayaka (Any time she cntracts, she witches out and makes things worse) or the Oriko/Kirika duo (Future sight is hard to fight against, and the two of them succeeded n killing her in one of the few times Homura came close to actually Succeeding)

And...Not really Chron. Her mindset wasn't one of determination, it was her clinging onto a last hope that maybe - Just Maybe - she could make everything right. If you somehow made Homura think that it was impossible for her to achieve (Or she was actively making things worse), She'd start witching out.

Like I know you preach the virtues of S-Energy, but this really isn't that kind of situation

We don't need info about Magical Girls, we have the building blocks for our own army of monsters.

We will need allies for what's coming up; it would be a good idea to start gathering them here.

I haven't the slightest idea what you mean

So dance, dance the nightday away!

Shh people haven't realised that this was a Persona 4 Dancing All Night crossover yet :V

I see you have two divergent ideas of how to prepare for what's coming :V

Gotta build that powerbase for when the Fruit War gets into full swing

It's SV's only hope to stay relevant when faced with opposition on this scale

We really don't though, as long as we keep winning at Inves and accumulating Lockseeds. This isn't exactly Pokemon, it's perfectly possible to use multiple Inves at once against individual enemies. Baron and Gaim in particular made impressive use of that fact.

They were both Overlords at that point Lichte.

The point is, it's a waste of time trying to recruit individual allies when what we'll need is an army. Ideally, we could go about this by consolidating other teams beneath us in opposition to Team Baron's own upcoming feudal reenactment, but given how Invitto and Raid Wild react to that experiment, we also need to gain enough power personally to put down the subordinate teams.

And fighting through Inves seems a far preferable alternative to the issues with becoming a Magical Girl.

Since Mort asked me to post...

Hum. I'm just curious as to how nobody drew a line from Mami having a "friend" that's curious about Inves to Yggdrasil to Homura's anger. Meanwhile, people are going "Oh, she must be angry about the girl who turned into a witch that she saw fought that one time."
