The SV dice hate quests. Can we use the Rollz Room fod our rolls? They're usually more neutral.

Day 21 Part 1
[X] CYOA Book. One of the classics from when there were only pages, dice, and pencils. (Howard Perk: The Dice are kind...for today. (+10 to any Failed Roll once a Day))

"Ok, so I avoided the spike traps and made it to the pedestal. There's an artifact on it that looks like a small, golden monkey head," you say, brow furrowed, eyes staring down at the page in front of you. You and Ana decided to take turns going through the book, which is about a knight trying to find an ancient treasure to save his village. Standard fantasy stuff.

The challenge was to see who could get the treasure, while dying the least amount of times.

So far, you were losing by 15.

You could swear that Ana was reading ahead, but whenever you called her out on it her face turned into the picture of ignorance.

Currently, she's staring down at the page with you, pencil and dice in one hand, "Yes. Now, all you have to do is grab the treasure and you will be victorious."

"Right," you say, but hesitate before turning to the page it says you should.

Ana looks at you quizzically, "Well? Turn the page."

"I don't trust this book," you admit, "Everytime I try to do something, it screws me over." You still remember the spike traps. So many spike traps.

Ana sighs, "Father, there are four pages that the outcome of your choice could go to. This means that statistically, you have a 25% chance to succeed and a 75% chance to fail."

"Those aren't very good odds."

"No, but they're the best you've got right now."

Can't argue with that you suppose. Taking a deep breathe, you grab the corner of the page and pull.

...You sigh with relief.

You got the artefact and got out. Thank the gods.

Hmm. Can't help but feel like, something just gave you some serious luck.

Ehh, probably nothing.

Event Roll: 89! Cultists Ambush at Harrowmont House!

Number of Cultist: 5

Harrowmont Combat Roll: 85 + 15 (Werewolf Bodies) + 20 (Physical Magic) + 30 (Eldritch Hatred) - 15 (Multiple Opponents) - 10 (Ambush) = 125

Cultist Combat Roll: 80 + 15 (Multiple Allies) + 10 (Ambush) + 5 (Eldritch Help) - 20 (No Silver Weapons) = 95

Cultist Survival Roll: 47 - 30 (Eldritch Hatred) - 10 (No Mercy) = 7

You're...speechless really.

"Oh my. They appeared to have had some trouble while we were on our way here," Ana says from her place on top of your shoulders.

"Some trouble" is putting it lightly.

Right now, you're looking at what would be considered a slaughter in a Horror Movie. Body parts are strewn all over the place, each in certain phases of torn apart. You don't see any torsos or heads, only arms and legs.

In the middle of the blood stained grass, there stands the four Harrowmonts. Chester's batting around one of the arms like it's a squeaky toy. Barbara comes over and grabs him by the scruff of his neck, wagging a finger coated in intestines in front of his face. Volkar spots you and puts down the leg him and Maeve were sharing, wiping his face on his sleeve.

He comes over teeth covered in blood as he smiles, "Craft! Sorry about the mess. Some dumbasses thought they could sneak up on us and jump you when you got here. We dissuaded them of that particular notion," he gestures to the gore strewn across the ground.

You nod feeling sick to your stomach at the smell of death and iron in the air. You set Anastasia on the ground, giving her a pat on the head, "Now, be good sweety. Don't cause too much trouble."

"Of course, father," she replies, "I promise to be the picture of innocence while I'm here." With that she walks over to where Chester's chewing on that leg he had.

Volkar watches her leave and then turns to you, "She's pretty well behaved. I guess we have you to thank for that?"

"Huh? Oh, um, yeah. I guess," a hand goes to your neck, nervousness taking over. "I just, do what I can. You know, like any normal father would."

"You've done much more than that."

"What?" you thought you heard Volkar whisper something under his breath there.

The wolfman waves a hand in dismissal, "It's nothing. You should probably get going."

Feeling confused at his sudden dismissal of you, you shrug and wave good bye.

(Harrowmonts annihilated a Cultists Ambush! Roll for another attack Negated because Holy Crap man!)

Howard Class Roll: 30 + 15 (Those who can't) = 45 Success

Nothing to really say about today. The kids are still grumpy about the three days worth of homework, but outside of that nothing's really changed. Though you do have to go separate a couple of kids who were getting into a scuffle. When you asked why, they said they were arguing over whether or not it was possible for mythological creatures and humans to live together in harmony.

You raised your eyebrow at this, but dismissed it as nothing.

Oh, and there's your constant paranoia that almost all of your fellow teachers might want your daughter sacrificed to the Eldritch monster under your school.

So that's a thing.

(No real change)

Dispelling Rumors: 80 + 10 (Orator) = 90 High Success

Ok Craft, think.

How do you get people to stop talking about something strange?

…..

You act like nothing's wrong.

And that's how you and Ana were able to decrease public awareness of you. By acting as if you were just a normal family and you had nothing to hide.

Even when one of Ana's Cultist came up to her asking for guidance, she acted like any young girl would when approached by a stranger; by grabbing onto and hiding behind your leg.

This got the public to not only see the both of you as just an innocent father and daughter, but made the Cult lose a lot of public clout.

(Alarm greatly decreased! Cult is hurt and confused!)

Man, that's some really unfair CYOA book. IS that the infamous Warlock on the Mountain or whatever it was called? Or that one about a warrior monk (Lone Wolf IIRC) which had an unwinnable battle if you lacked a specific item hard to obtain, making it less of a CYOA and rather a dick move from the writers.

Event Roll: 89! Cultists Ambush at Harrowmont House!

Just 5 cultists attacking a werewolf family? Without silver weaponry or guns? They were asking for the worst. Hopefuly these weren't "our" cultists trying to "help" us.

He comes over teeth covered in blood as he smiles, "Craft! Sorry about the mess. Some dumbasses thought they could sneak up on us and jump you when you got here. We dissuaded them of that particular notion," he gestures to the gore strewn across the ground.

The other neighbours thankfully are all blind or supernatural too.

Aaw, the werewolf dad is a bro.

When you asked why, they said they were arguing over whether or not it was possible for mythological creatures and humans to live together in harmony.

You know, I thought a mythology class in an high school was a bit strange, but now that we know there's a literal monster under the basement, it doesn't seem so strange anymore. Also, lying it a bit thick, that question.

This got the public to not only see the both of you as just an innocent father and daughter, but made the Cult lose a lot of public clout.

Aaw, I feel bit bad about the cult. We ought to speak to them later, they can be excellent meatshields! And perhaps help us with our daily chores.

Lone Wolf was more like a power creep problem as you could rack up enough bonuses to push you off the RNG entirely, so the writer tended to vacillate between leaning low and giving you a cakewalk if you played the books in sequence, or leaning high and getting you murdered by not having cumulative stats.

There are five books with infamous fuck yous(of which two can be avoided if you understood the textual clues) in a series of 30+ so it's overall just a CYOA thing.

we should probably silent approach the cult and tell them its a act, don't want to lose the cult completely after all they could be useful....

Day 21 Part 2/Day 22
Calling Rivauld: 71 + 10 (Orator) - 15 (It's been 9 Days) = 66 Success

You find yourself, once again pacing across the living room with your cell phone in your hand. It's become something of a habit when you're nervous. Something about constant movement when you're about to do something nerve wracking seemed to calm you.

Specifically, you're about to call a woman who may or may not have a romantic interest in you, who you have not really had a conversation with in 9 days, because you've been busy dealing with cults, a Dullahan, a werewolf family, and wrestling with the revelation that your school has an Eldritch Monster sleeping underneath it.

….She's not gonna believe a lick of that, is she?

"Probably not," Ana says, walking past you with her Human Psychology book in hand.

You glance at her for stating the obvious, before sucking it up and dialing the number on the piece of paper she gave you.

Before the first ring goes through, you hear the pick up tone on the other end. That was fast. Does she keep her phone on her at all time or something?

Her familiarly light yet mature voice comes through the receiver, "Hello? This is Olly Rivauld speaking."

"Hi! Rivauld!" you curse inwardly at hearing your voice crack a little bit. You're a grown man! That shouldn't be happening anymore. You clear your throat and continue, "Uh, it's me. Howard Craft!"

"..."

"You know," you try, starting to feel even more nervous at her silence, "one of your co-workers?"

"...."

"We talked. On more than one occasion?"

"...."

You sigh in defeat, using your last resort, "I'm the guy the rumors were about? Recently I've been on TV for having a quote 'Psychic Daughter'?"

"Oh! Now I remember!" you're not sure whether that was genuine or she was throwing you for a loop, "Please forgive me! After all, it's not everyday someone doesn't call you for 9 days after you give them your number!"

Geez, she's laying that guilt on thick, "I'm sorry, ok? I've been rather busy lately."

"Not too busy to call me now, hmm?"

"That's because I just so happened to have a free moment from the craziness of my day. I was on the News you know! I had to duck news reporters day in and day out," you're telling a half-truth here. You were on the lookout for news reporters and the like, but thankfully never came across any. Don't need to let her know that, though. At least not while she's pull the guilt card on you like this.

She's quiet for a second, "Alright, you've got a point. Still, why did you decide to call me now?"

"Oh, you know. I just, uh, had a free moment, and thought 'Hey, you can't have too many friends. Why not give the ol' social skills a workout?'" you are totally bombing right now. You're pretty sure that you can see Ana shaking her head out of the corner of your eye.

"So, you know," you continue, "Would you maybe, come over? We can hang out and stuff?" she's gonna hang up on you. She's gonna hang up on you. She's gonna hang up on—

"That sounds pleasant."

She's gonna—wait what?!

"Wha—really?!" you can't keep the surprise out of your voice.

"I'll be over tomorrow. See you then!"

"Wait, but, uh, ok," you hear the click on the other end to signify the end of the call. You look at your cell phone for a bit. Then you turn towards the sofa where you daughter is reading, "Honey. We're going to have a visitor this weekend."

She looks up from her book to smile at you, "Oh good. I finally get to meet this Rivauld person, and find out why she's so interested in you."

"Yeah. Wait...hey!"

"Oh, don't be like that. No offense father, but while you are a very interesting and compassionate human, I've seen birds with better courting skills than you."

…..You're not sure if you can argue with that or not.

(Rivauld is coming over tomorrow! Also, she apparently likes guilt tripping people!)

Sensing Eldritch: 8 + 15 (Supernatural Senses) + 10 (The Dice are Kind) = 33 Fail

Shockingly, Ana says that she can't sense any new supernatural energies near your home. She can feel those Shadow Creatures, who have since been downgraded from threat to nuisance, but nothing outside of that.

Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, you've don't know.

(No New Supernaturals found)

Watching TV: 73 = High Success

Well it failed last time, but let's see if you can find a TV show that's actually good to show your daughter this time.

"Father, this really is unnecessary," Ana says, though she makes no move to get out from under your arm on the sofa, "you don't have to spend every waking hour with me."

"Don't I?" you question while flipping through channels trying to find something, "I thought that was my job?"

"That is true, but I—go back two channels!" suddenly very interested in what's on the boob tube, Ana sits up in her spot with eyes focused on the screen.

Raising an eyebrow, you do as she says. You end up on the Sci-Fi channel, though it's gone into it's late night mode. During this time they tend to show animes a lot more frequently. Apparently it was brought back by popular demand after they canceled it the first time. When you reach that channel, the first thing you're greeted by is a very familiar muscular man, with blue hair and cheesy look sunglasses. He's currently in a giant robot, beating the shit out of other giant robots while screaming something about not messing with his little brother.

You're confused at first, before recognition lights up in your mind, "Oh hey! It's Gurren Laggan! Man, I haven't seen this in ages! You wanna watch it, honey?" Ana nods absentmindedly, absorbed by what's happening on screen. Worry builds up in your stomach, but you shrug it off, and spend the night watching high octane, mind numbing action.

By the time the show ends, you're left with a feeling of nostalgia and happiness. Even after all this time, the show holds up due to the sheer amount of balls to the wall craziness you've come to love from it.

"So, Ana," you ask gaze going to your child, "what did you think?"

At first, all you get is silence as Ana stares blankly at the TV screen. After five minutes, you start to get worried, and nudge her gently with a hand. She jolts, as if turned on by flipping a switch, "What, what happened?"

"Um, you zoned out for a second there. Is everything alright?"

"Hmm? Oh, yes father. Everything's fine," she assures you, though you're not quite ready to believe her on that, "It's just…."

Her gaze rotates back to the television, and she just about whispers the next part, "How did they get it so accurate?"

You ask her what she meant by that, but any further attempt to push is countered by her saying she's sleepy. So, diligent parent that you are, you carry here over to the bedroom and wish her good dreams for the night.

Before you fall to sleep on the couch, you wonder about what she meant by "accurate".

It's just a TV Show after all.

There's no way it could correlate to man's past war with the mythics.

Right?

(Ana gains Perk: Spiral Power; How does it work? (+10 to all Howard's Belief based Rolls)! New Supernatural Knowledge: Ana knows something about the War between Humans and Mythics!)

Knowledge of the Supernatural (Beginner): Turns out, there's an entire world that you are completely unaware of right under your nose! Heh, heh….uuuggghhh. +5 to Supernatural Investigations.

A Bond between Father and Daughter: Everything is better now! (Trust is Maxed Out! +15 to actions to Increase Trust and 1 Reroll for failed actions to increase Trust!)

Orator (Novice): You've got that commanding voice! (+10 to rolls to Inspire or Persuade others)

DODGE!: Best way to not get hit? Not get hit! (+10 to Defensive Combat Rolls)

Power of the Fist (Beginner): Your hands feel so fucking sore now! (+10 to Combat Rolls where you use your fist as weapons)

Your enemies are some kind of strange Shadow Creatures. Apparently they live in..well shadows and are currently watching your every move. You've encountered one of them twice. Once when it appeared on the roof of your car. Then again when you accidentally left Anastasia at home alone.

You have discovered that whatever the Shadow Creatures are, they can bleed. They can be killed.

You have discovered that Magic exist.

You have discovered something called Belief.

There's an Eldritch Monster underneath your school. It is currently asleep Indefinitely, unless someone else tries to wake it up.

You've got evidence that suggest Barton has been performing rituals on children sent to stay there since the 1800s. They have a profile on Ana, and want to capture her for a sacrifice.

Ana knows something about the War between Humans and Mythics.

Sorry it's taken so long.

I recently started two Godbound Quest on SB and SV, and had a bit of Cold that I was fighting off.

Oh yeah, and I messed up on the days of the week, and one of the previous days should've been a weekend not a weekday.

So, for the sake of the Quest (and my stress levels), we're just going to pretend that we're in the third week of January, Day 21 was a Friday, and today (Day 22) is a Saturday.

Ok.

Ok.

[X] Plan I Believe in You!

[X] Belief: Maybe you just have to...meditate or something? (Unlock Belief Perks)

[X] Do some side work: More cash is always a good thing. (Add +2 to Money immediately)

[X] As Anastasia about Belief: You don't need to ask her about it now, since you've used it. Still couldn't hurt. (Learn more about Belief. Possibly Unlock Belief Perks)

[X] Read a book: The best way to gain knowledge on just about anything. (Anastasia will look through your collection of books and read one on her own. May result in new Perk.)

[X] Practice her powers: Ya lose it if you don't use it. (Anastasia practices getting a better handle on her powers and learning to what extent she can use them.)

Ouch, the burn! The fact that she's a multi-tentacled entity saying this makes it worse.

suddenly very interested in what's on the boob tube

Uh, never heard it been called like this.

By the time the show ends, you're left with a feeling of nostalgia and happiness. Even after all this time, the show holds up due to the sheer amount of balls to the wall craziness you've come to love from it.

That's because it was made with quality in mind and not from a light novel. :p

Her gaze rotates back to the television, and she just about whispers the next part, "How did they get it so accurate?"
There's no way it could correlate to man's past war with the mythics.

Which war? Have we heard about this before? I don't recall right now.

Either way, it seems the past of humanity is odder than Howie thinks.

[x] Perception: You missed enough paper airplanes coming towards your head to know that you need to better your vision.
- [x] Focus on perceiving Objects (Work towards Perk for seeing things before they hit you)

[x] Look for Cultist: Maybe you can reason with them. (May Decrease Alarm and Remove Active Cult Perk)
[x] As Anastasia about Belief: You don't need to ask her about it now, since you've used it. Still couldn't hurt. (Learn more about Belief. Possibly Unlock Belief Perks)

Finally, a chance to interact with our cultist(s)!! We have a friendly family, so now we need these caretakers/meatshields/money providers. Then being able to focus projectiles before they hit you is essential for Howie until he acquires superhuman toughness. Lastly, we need to know more about Belief.
As for Anastasia, she doesn't have too many choices to pick.

@LinkOnScepter, will we be able to have Ana pick actions from Howard's selection? As in contacting with the cultists, go shopping and the like. She has shapeshifting so she should be able to do way more than what she's doing right now.

Really? That's what my dad calls it all the time.

Remember what I said about how humans pushed monsters back, and sent the monsters into hiding?

That one.

Get rid of the Giant Robots, and Gurren Laggan is about 90-85% Historically Accurate on how it happened.

For the most part, she does go with you on important things or things you could do together. Like shopping, contacting the cultist, etc. It's just that Howard does most of the talking.

Though I do see what you're getting at.

I'll see what I can cook up for the next update.

[X] Visit the Harrowmonts: Time to talk to some wolves. (Learn more about Chester and his home life)
[X] Investigate Crossroads: Seriously, the fuck! (Possibly learn why there is an Eldritch Monster underneath your school and how to stop it 85% Done)
[X] Read a book: The best way to gain knowledge on just about anything. (Anastasia will look through your collection of books and read one on her own. May result in new Perk.)

Lets finish off the crossroads with another Harrowmont team up.
With a bit of practice on both us and Anna so we can handle it better

I don't think most people can do that first part very well... I mean, I haven't managed to watch any of it yet, but has anyone ever heard of Gurren Laggan... and not thought of the Giant Robots?

I think that was a manner of speaking.

Right.

What I meant by that is, Gurren Laggan isn't just a series that literally lives off of the Rule of Cool.

....Well it is, but I mean in the terms of this world.

You know how IRL most of our literature and otherwise are based on stories we can remember from the Greeks and Roman Mythology?

Yeah, well that's true here, but it goes deeper than that.

Almost every work of fiction can have it's roots traced back to when humanity became the dominant species on the planet.

That event was that overreaching.
