Honestly, I'm kind of tempted by Hannz's idea myself. It's cool.

BUT I also really like the idea of a seeming Priestess working on behalf of the unloved to raise them up above those that have hurt them cruelly, to make them the masters and those that crushed them slaves, to turn the world upside-down and inside-out and remake it in her own image.

... Is there any reason that the ring's bearer must necessarily be a mere pawn?
I guess it depends on the person? A weak-willed individual/lacking in magical protection will certainly be eaten alive the moment they wear the ring, but if they came in prepared with Magic/Willpower, they could force the ring to resort to whispers and slowly influencing the wielder until their desires line up with the ring's instead.

Alternatively, if one's crafty and well-protected enough, they might be able to strike a bargain with That Which Slumbers.

Would be fun if we could get the Ring and one of the other votes together.

[X] Plan That Which Slumbers And The Awakener

[Insert Plan That Which Slumbers here.]

The Awakener
Name: Liath of the Seventh
Race: Demon
Archetype: Lich (++++ Willpower, ++++ Magic, ++ Perception, ++Intelligence, --Strength, -- Stamina, -- Agility)
Motivation: Pride (++++++++Willpower, impossible to retreat from danger.)

You were strong, once. Before your accursed body failed you. Before it took all your willpower just to get out of bed in the morning. You had a kingdom, a dominion over the snivelling races of this lesser realm - but all that is gone now. Now that you are so damnably weak.

But you are clever. You are perceptive. You know where power can be found. You know where the bodies are buried.

And you know where you can find a certain ring...

You need it, but it needs you more. You will claim it, you will break it. You will make it into a weapon for your cause. Nothing is better than you. Nothing and no one, and certainly not a cheap piece of jewellery.

I've always loved villain team-ups, especially ones where both parties know exactly what they're getting into. The lone malefactor brooding in their volcano lair feels stiff and overdone to me: even Batman has Robin and Alfred.

[X] Plan That Which Slumbers And The Awakener

I do like the idea of dynamics between dual protagonists.
With apologies to those who like the Wrath option, this is Evil Stupid alignment.
If you never accept surrender, people stop offering it, costing you unnecessary casualties/damage.
Slaves are useful, corpses are brief fertilizer.

[Z] Plan Noble Overlord

[Z] Plan The World Shall Burn

Interesting. I'm willing to switch if Birdsie allows the write-in.
It looks interesting.

Regardless, it is time for the tally.

That's okay. The options that lost can become future wielders for the ring, or other characters.

Voting phase over for now.

Chapter 1: Character Creation #2: Backstory & Host

Chapter 1
Character Creation #2: Backstory & Host

You lie in the dirt of an ancient forest. Green trees hulk everywhere and green moss covers the leaf-blanketed ground. It has been so many years that you layeth here, unfound by civilization. You are forgotten. All of you are forgotten. So many souls. So many spirits forgotten and abandoned by the world.

Who were you?

[] A creation of the Devil. Souls forced into a dark artifact by a demon who wanted power. He got the empowerment he sought, but he was struck down and left you behind in the dirt. (++Intelligence, ++Perception.)
[] A battlefield of soldiers. A war took place here many years ago, resulting in massive destruction. A necromancer stumbled upon the haunted battlefield and gathered the souls in a ring before they killed him and he joined them. (++Martial, ++Magic.)
[] A group of primordial spirits who partook in creating the world. A mortal black mage hoped to imprison you and use you as a power source. The fool was killed by you, and now you lay in the forest where his tower used to be. (+++Willpower, +++Magic, -Fellowship, -Intelligence.)
[] A city of slaughtered innocents. Thirsting for revenge, all of you agreed to bring an end to this world. The last of you managed to craft a ring before you passed away, then collected everyone in it. Now, you seek vengeance together. (++Willpower, +Fellowship, +Perception.)
[] Write-in. (Up to 4 points.)

You have laid in the dirt for years. Slowly, moss and grass grew through you, but it was soon destroyed by the evil energy you emanate. You can't do anything without a host. Moving is impossible for you, but using magic is. Creating a body seems possible, but extremely difficult and wasteful since the forest is already a center of life. Finally, through a collective effort, you rise.

The ring moves to one side and rolls down a small hill in the direction of the nearest host. A host. That's what you need. You expand your perceptions using magic, over a slightly larger area. You find several viable hosts and you roll downhill in the direction of...

[] The North. There is a nest of large, magical ants in there. You can easily dominate the queen and rule over the monstrous bugs until you find a better host.
[] Northern-East. A lonely ogre finds his lair there. The creature should be stupid enough to put you on, but you'll have to expand your volume a little to fit on his finger. Still, it is an easy target, and rather mobile and good for a starter.
[] Northern-West. There is a hut of some forest keeper. A human or an elf. He's a more difficult target than the rest, but also an ambitious one. With some work, it will definitely pay off. He appears to have a family, so you might have a starting coterie of servants if you play your card right.
[] West. There is a witch hut. A witch will probably be the most ambitious of all possible targets. She will probably realize there's something off and magical about you, and perhaps hesitate to put you on, but if you can promise her power, she might be stupid enough to try. In addition, her magical powers will go into symbiosis with yours. The more powerful of a being that wears you, the more you amplify their power.

The west is the high-difficulty high-award option, we just need to convince the witch

Our Magic and Willpower stats are already pretty high so perhaps we should work on improving are other stats. As for the witch, we just need to convince a desperate young woman that we can give her power even greater the two of us combined. Probably wouldn't be difficult although I hope I'm not underestimating her.

I like the ants idea, sounds fun, also love all the quests you're putting out Birdsie

EDIT: Changed to Slaughtered innocents, want Willpower and Fellowship

I'm curious about the Ogre becoming glorious and our first champion. Plus I wanna know what Ogres are like in this setting, they have a lot of potential to be a lot of different things.

Stat wise, Devil is probably the best, but I did use Primordial Will as part of Character Creation soooo...
