Soo the old grimm is dead and the new one is more human, Lumina now remembers why grimm annoyed her and soon ghost will reunite with the moth. It will be a dumpster fire.

Not. It felt like the blonde on stage hated all of them and Ruby in particular, even though her piercing gaze never stayed on anyone.

Don't worry Ruby, she does that to everyone, everyone.

which were multiple choice exams even twelve-year-olds could solve.

Yeah, Ruby level of genius twelve years olds.

She made a very complicated weapon herself when most of two years her senior made way more simple ones, and she did so before she was fifteen, since she had time to train with it extensively, I seriously doubt she's not a genius in engineering as well as fighting.

Then another voice grunted from behind her: "Damn, they let even kids in here these days."

Yeah, I agree, they clearly admit kids... you probably wouldn't be there otherwise, you big baby.

While she still worried about being denied, an older woman nearby interrupted them with a mean chuckle. "You girls should team up, you know?" she told the pair. Once both turned her way, her grin became outright mocking. "That way they only waste half the time with you. There's always kids getting in over their head, they never make it."

Oh boy, if only she knew... I mean, both of those kids could actually do it alone, I have no doubts, together? You are going to have to revise your vision of how the world works when they are finished trouncing it alongside their opponents.

"Doubtful," was the instantaneous response, so certain that it convinced even Ruby. Another discerning look was given to the newly slumped girl in the pause that followed.

"But a pleasant surprise if true."

Awwww, the moth learn to care.

She ran a finger over the hardened, crimson steel.

Hmmm, did she got a reminiscence of Grimm there? Would be very appropriate if that was the case.

They get along like a house on fire.

And probably actually had some houses spontaneously combust in their vicinity in fact, what with Qrow luck. :V

"Not much to see for now. Just two brats about to get kicked all the way back to whatever fancy school they come from."

Oh, her picking her jaw from the floor is going to be so fun to watch. 😈

Meanwhile, Selina's expression had fallen. "We're fucked," she announced.

Here it comes! I had said her reaction would be *here goes our chance at a clean streak.* when seeing Lumina, I just didn't expect them to be first in the test.

"Guess you're not the Invincible Girl anymore," Selina quipped, which earned her an annoyed look.

Pyrrha may not realize it yet, but this was very good for her, being dismissed that much is going to hurt her pride like nothing, but careful work after can help her regain a better equilibrium than the toxic status quo she had.

The unfamiliar, rich baritone cut through all conversation. Everyone turned toward the new voice and was taken aback; there, right in the seat Lumina just vacated, sat a man. Lanky, one may call him. About as tall as Cardin if not even larger, with fair skin and black hair. The red tips and his features appeared eerily similar to Ruby, who stared up in equal befuddlement. His eyes were a bright crimson, almost luminescent. He wore perfectly tailoured, scarlet robes.

"Wha-, who are you?" Selina demanded.

"And why do you look like Ruby?" Yang added, somewhere between accusing and wary.

Grimm!

Yoohoo! He is there, her dear child is all grown up! Lumina will be so happy if she sees him!

Soo the old grimm is dead and the new one is more human, Lumina now remembers why grimm annoyed her and soon ghost will reunite with the moth. It will be a dumpster fire.

The Fall of Beacon is coming early, and it won't include any grimms, or Grimm, just a berserk moth and a little ghost. :V

I wished for Troupe Master Ruby, A Grimm that looks like genderbent Ruby is close enough I guess

Grimm shows up, drops the Moth's real name, and leaves. Truly, the sibling experience.

Now we wait for Ghost to meet Lumina, and hopefully no one dies from it. Again.

Also, everyone is going to be very confused when Ruby asks Lumina who that was, and she says it's her brother.
Except Ruby, who will realise she just partnered with a goddess after training with her brother, and is probably starting to feel like she's a main character in a story with the sheer amount of coincidence going on here.

Well, you grew up quickly Grimmchild. And you look like Ruby... Congrats Ms Rose, your now a mother. This duo is now a Moth and a Moth-er. Now we just need Moth-est.

I could feel the amount of salt from the future meeting of Ghost and Lumina. So much salt that the Swamp's Slug Goddess shows up to ask to stop the saltiness.

Poor Velvet. I imagine that conversation was a little uncomfortable for her, especially with Lumina vanishing partway through. I wonder what advice she got...

Good luck to the other teams, I guess. They have a weakened gauntlet, but one that also knows the hardship is behind them.

Tease! Not having the confrontation between Lumina and Ghost when we thought it would be. Also I like that Yang did the best against Ruby since she knows best how Ruby fights... just not used to Ruby's sudden skill jump.

Ruby & Lumina really do make a good combo. Ruby's mainly an attrition fighter. She gets in close to harass the enemy & dodge tank, chipping away at them and scoring larger hits where she can. She's not weak, but she doesn't have serious stopping power. Or, at least, doesn't fight like she does. Meanwhile, Lumina is the mobile artillery. She hangs back to do the heavy damage with her lasers, and if someone gets too close she can immediately reposition with a teleport. She can also blind them if need be to give Ruby the time to re-engage. They cover each other's weak points quite well, and they don't even have to worry about friendly fire. Since Lumina's attacks are almost hitscan and Ruby can go intangible. Once they get more experience as a duo they'll be a true nightmare.

This makes me think how much of a nightmare, the Nightmare King and the Radiance fighting together will be.

From what I can find, the sniper rifle portion shoot .50 cal, which is the kind of ammo used in Anti-material Rifles, anything larger and I'm pretty sure you start getting into Naval artillery (don't quote me on that, I haven't read a kancolle fic in a while).

Mind, Aura probably makes that easier, but that's still a lot of recoil to account for...and she uses it for momentum without being set up on a bipod.

And yet, that's still far less in any single hit than Lumina manages. And Ruby fights for attrition, usually.

Says more things about her enemies than about Ruby, but the implications for their roles in the party are sensible enough.

Have you looked at the size of her Sniperscythe? She does have stopping power, in fact, one of the episodes of the Beacon initiation has her casually cut a tree in two with her scythe to show her frustration.
Hence the addendum that she doesn't fight like someone who expects to be able to take down her opponents in one or two hits.

is it even possible for anyone to finish the entire fight other than Lumina and Ruby?
Lumina's aura dipped to 40% and Ruby should be around that level (maybe 50%?). these two got equal amount of aura (or at least same amount of expenditure to finish the fight, around 5%). Ruby's aura capacity is larger than Qrow, a legendary hunter. she expended 10% while Qrow's aura goes from full to yellow (below 50%?). i would be surprised if anyone can get halfway through.
or maybe that's because they use overwhelming power (which use a lot of aura) to finish the test rather than planning things out using info from previous matches?

Maybe the idea is that these are Beacon first years and Licensed hunters are expected to be a order of Magnitude better and able to endure through all of them since Grimm are never ending with a few dangerous examples with exotic abilities.

aye, that's the idea. the licensed hunters should be able to suppress all first years team cause taking the exam is pretty much screaming "we're on the level of 4th year".
but I'm not sure if the exam this year saying "the first year this year is so hard that someone that managed to get through had to expend 60% of their aura which is the equivalent of an experienced, legendary hunter exhausting their aura 3x over for both hunters" or that's just how much a disadvantage a normal person would be in for being the first to go (no plan to possibly counter them and had to waste a lot of aura).

note: the 3x came from the fact that it took 10% of Ruby's aura for Qrow's 50%. which mean Ruby's 100% is Crow's 500%. ofc there's still a problem of Ruby not taking a single damage in that fight while Qrow kept getting damage but Qrow's aura doesn't need aura to maintain. so not an exact 1 on 1 but still some measurement.

I think you got that part completely wrong, yes, Ruby did use 10% of her aura against Qrow's 50%… but as you say yourself, he took damages and not her.

Given that it wouldn't make sense if using your semblance took much more or even as much aura as taking damage, otherwise nobody would use it as freely as the show has people do, Ruby's use is completely non indicative of their respective aura reserves. From there, any calculus based on how full they were at the end is worthless.

And that's if you consider semblance use as using aura, which, while a common fanon thing and one Naron seems to have taken, is not actually shown in the show, and the board game and video game mechanics actually outright seems to indicate it doesn't. I personally thinks that using your semblance is tiring, but don't use aura.

The most important point you seem to be missing on if someone can even finish the gauntlet normally is that you seem to think this years level for the firsts years is normal. It is not, Pyrrha is able to take an entire team of first years alone without too much sweat and without obvious semblance use, Yang isn't there but not too far, Weiss is also exceptional, as is Blake. This year is full of monsters.

... If you don't take damage at all, of course your overall consumption will be less, it doesn't mean Like you have a big bar of health. It just means you have been hit less. I mean you can do a naked run of the entirety of dark souls Series but that doesn't make the characters health higher than everyone else.
The fact that he took so long to get to 50% is more surprising. It means his storage is much higher.

well yes, aura taking damage is more likely to be higher than usage. but i don't think it's possible to hit Ruby with her currently (pretty much upgraded) aura. so the fact that her aura still drops to 50% after the gauntlet kinda makes it unlikely for any other participants to even remotely get half way. or maybe attrition is just that painful. especially with this year's students.

yep, pretty sure that semblence tire you out... in the show. i do believe when Ruby was going around the place for Grimm, she needs to recharge every once in a while from using her skill too much. also the reason why her aura pool increase.

i didn't forget that actually. i might have poorly word it but i do remember that.

the first year this year is so hard that someone that managed to get through had to expend 60% of their aura which is the equivalent of an experienced, legendary hunter exhausting their aura 3x over for both hunters

my first post was asking whether or not it's possible for a 2 man team to defeat this year's student unless it's like STRQ or something.

i think Ruby mention that her current aura max cap is pretty much maxed right now because she empties it a lot. not sure if individual have different max cap or not. or whether age stops you from having higher cap.

That is correct. I admittedly did not remember how it went in the show, but to me it makes the most sense that aura powers Semblances. Else people without an aura could manifest theirs, which I believe is not possible. There must be some sort of relation there. And because the show does never actually say, I can just make stuff up as long as it makes sense :V

A bit from column A, a bit from column B really. Where I stand, age plays into it insofar that experience and use of aura stimulate a person's capacities to grow. Using RPG terms for an example, Ruby effectively power-levelled her aura stat with the ritual prep and her constant fights with Nightmare King Grimm after.

I do look forward to seeing what kind of weapon Ruby helps Lumine make. Currently I am expecting a simple sword like the ones she threw at you during her boss fight.
