4/end Serpentus Interruptus

four days had passed since our encounter with Hanami, those four days were filled with recuperation, preparation, and a rather lucrative trip to the metalworker's shop.

Nobara, fully recovered from her injuries and bursting with renewed confidence, walked beside us, A skip in her step and her sapphire Tojo pin glinting in the afternoon sun.

Her fancy red dress shimmering in the daylight.

Our destination was the magic shop that served as a portal to Kasimir's interplanar bazaar.

We needed to acquire the final items necessary for our upcoming confrontation with Jogo, the volcanic douche.

As we strolled down the bustling city street, my gaze was drawn to a woman standing near a street vendor, her back turned to us.

Her long pale white hair that turned to black at the ends, a white mid-thigh length tube-dress latched onto her body like a second skin.

Her long black boots that reached her knees.

Then when she turned, the dead black eyes with a hidden glint of malice in them.

There was something about her, an aura of otherworldly power and a chilling familiarity that sent a shiver down my spine. Her long, flowing hair, the ethereal quality of her movements... she looked like...

No, it couldn't be.

It had to be cosplay.

I asked our resident nerd. "Have you ever heard of a game called Bravely Default?"

Nobara tilted her head. "Nah, I play all the good RPGs though. Is it something from your world?"

With trepidation, I activated my Observe ability, focusing on the woman. The information that flooded my mind confirmed my worst fears.

Airy (Weakened/Partially sealed.)

Titles:

(The Lying fairy.)

(Servant of the millennium)(The Harbringer of the Devourer of world bounds.)

(She who opens the door for the Serpent Who Eats the Horizon.)

Airy has just finished murdering her companions for the more than billionth time. They put up a pretty good fight this time, but in the process she was partially sealed and weakened. She woke up in a very different place this time. She Wonders if the Serpent Who Eats the Horizon will reward her if she helps him find this cluster of worlds. She can currently level all of Tokyo with a wave of her hand instead of wiping the planet of all life at once. She doesn't notice you.

Horror washed over me as I absorbed the implications of her presence.

Airy, that fucking bitch from bravely default!

If she was able to summon that thing I dare not even think of the name of-, a being of multiversal power scale and absolute hungry malice, in this world?

Although weakened, she still posed a catastrophic threat.

She would wipe the floor with us, and turn Gojo into an onion-ring extra fucking fried!

I grabbed Nobara and Miu by one hand each and pulled them as fast as I could towards kasimir's shop.

I did the stupid clap-ritual and dived through.

Before anyone can say anything I speak up. "What does the Multiversal accords say about outsiders who are planar threats who absolutely fucking break the balance of the worlds they are in? What can I buy to stop this shit?!

I shoved the observer panel in front of Kasimir, his eyes widened.

"In this case, I call your benefactor, who you know as jump-chan, and we all skedaddle after freezing this world in time. Indeed, this is a predicament."

He grabs a strange looking cube, and tosses it out of the portal.

A phone pops up on his desk and he presses a button on it.

It rings and I overhear our ditsy, mistake prone, jump-chan speak.

"Hey? Wait? Kasimir? When did you-"

"No time, lady &*^!Q of the void ^%$(, Mistress of-.

"Kasimir, Stop with the formal shit, out with it." she says, impatiently.

I realize I have a slight nose-bleed.

Nobara is out of breath and bleeding from her left ear and nose.

Miu also has a small trickle of blood coming from her left nostril.

Kasimir hands us a box of tissues each, and yanks my observer panel until a copy of it appears. He shoves it onto the phone, and the copy seems to fade into it.

There's a pause and then Jump-Chan spoke.

"Damnit. I was having fun! You were about to fight Jogo and wreck his shit, you would then be like- 'wait? I'm actually that strong?' and then you were about to just make sure by immediately going after Dagon. You'd be like 'wow! We totally wrecked his shit! Le'ts go destroy Kenjaku!'

Then you'd get your shit wrecked, escape and then you'd train for about a year, killing your assigned fiat backed assassins with ease, then you'd come back all super-powered just as Kenjaku wants to create a void bridge to another world. You'd kill his ass, close the portal and happy ever after for about 8 more years- AND NOW I DON'T GET TO SEE ANY OF IT!"

"C-can we come back and curb stomp it later? Would that help?" I asked, hoping to appease her.

"Fiiiiiiine," she grumbled. "You completed the first quest so whatever. We'll come back when you're slightly above the large city level. Bah!"

I saw a Kasimir wave, and then my gaze fell upon the cosmically dressed woman with the materially shifting hair as we were shifted to her office without even noticing. She was pouting with her arms crossed, her expression a mix of boredom and annoyance. The office itself was a marvel of interdimensional design, with walls that shimmered like galaxies and furniture that seemed to defy the laws of physics.

Nobara POV:

My jaw hung open as I took in the scene before me. Sure, Zack and Miu had explained the whole Jumpchain thing, but actually experiencing it was something else entirely. Here I was, standing in some kind of fancy office floating in the middle of freakin' space, with a frozen, black-and-white version of Earth just hanging there below us like a giant snow globe.

It was overwhelming, to say the least. I felt like a tiny ant staring up at a skyscraper, completely insignificant compared to the vastness of it all.

"So," I spoke up, my voice a mixture of awe and disbelief, "this is where you hang out when you're not messing with our lives by sending super-powered martial artists our way?"

The goddess, Jump-Chan or whatever her name was, turned her gaze towards me, her pout deepening. "Well, I was supposed to be watching you guys kick ass and take names," she grumbled. "But thanks to that pesky fairy, I'm stuck here with nothing to do but stare at this boring old planet."

She gestured towards the frozen Earth below, her voice dripping with disdain. "It's like watching paint dry, only less exciting."

Zack, ever the pragmatist, chimed in. "It's only been that way since, what? Five minutes?"

Jump-Chan stomped her foot petulantly. "I was supposed to get anywhere from 10 years of non-stop, heart-pounding action and tragedy fixing, or 5 years of that and a romantic happy story following you three for the next 5. Now I just got June-through-August of story fixing, and that's not even a YEAR!"

She huffed, crossing her arms and turning away from us. Then, with a dramatic wave of her hand, a stack of papers appeared on a nearby table, accompanied by three plush chairs.

I sighed, realizing we wouldn't even get to have lunch before being thrust into another adventure.

Just as I blinked, the scene around us shifted. We were now seated at a magnificent dining table, its surface crafted from black metal and adorned with intricate gold and gemstone inlays. An array of our favorite foods, from steaming bowls of ramen to plates piled high with sushi, appeared before us as if by magic.

I glanced at Zack and Miu, both of whom seemed equally surprised by the sudden change in scenery. We exchanged shrugs, a silent agreement to simply go with the flow and embrace the absurdity of our situation. After all, what else could we do?

"Just chilling in your cosmic office with a view of the entire freaking planet?" I muttered with slight disbelief and awe. Only slight.

I was a jumper now. Like a friggin forum story character. bound to the whims of a bored and easily-distracted goddess. Who knew what adventures, or misadventures, awaited us in the next jump?

"I know, Nobara, I have locked you into a nearby Hunter X Hunter world to enjoy watching."

"OOH! I loved that anime!" I exclaimed.

"I know."

Miu POV

Finishing the bowl of ramen I was eating which for some reason gave the impression that I watched an entire 140+ episode anime, I stood and turned to Nobara who was already staring at the Hunter X Hunter jump document with a silly smile on her face. "Nobara! Come here, I want to try something now that we're in between worlds!"

I then realized I had, in fact, the knowledge of the anime that someone would probably have if they watched it while halfheartedly paying attention once.

I watched as Nobara lifted her head from the 58 pages of pure insanity that I barely understand at all with a, "What's up Miu?" as she approached.

Nodding to myself, I put my hand on top of her head and pushed my battle aura into her. Jump-chan explained that Nobara couldn't learn Sei ki or Dou Ki due to it being specific to our original world, but what about battle aura. She was evasive as hell when I asked about it.

So I can only assume-

Nobara's Battle aura erupted around her to defend against mine, small as it might be, and I retracted mine.

Battle aura was a fitness thing.

It didn't need to be painted by a martial arts style to start.

When mixed with style-Ki it became Battle Ki, when battle Ki was mixed with Sei and Dou Ki, it became- well, a better quality and amount of Battle Ki.

Nobara stood on one knee, gasping for breath. "What the fuck, Miu?! What was that for!?"

"Notice anything different?" I asked, as I saw Zack give a gap-mouthed expression of surprise in the corner of my eye.

"I feel- stronger." Nobara finally said, as she looked around the flickering red light around her.

"Good! Now, While the hot piece of meat over there fills out his documents," I point over to zack jokingly.

"I Resent that remark! You know you like me for my winning personality too! The money too! Can't forget my vast stolen wealth!" Zack responds with humor.

"Quiet honey! Grown women are talking!" Nobara calls out, a smirk on her lips.

"OI!" I overhear him exclaim.

"As I was saying, while our muscly enforcer of hotness fills out these papers, I'll explain Battle Aura, Style Ki, and how to mix them together. Then we'll talk about throwing cursed energy in there!"

"I'm still here, you know?" I overhear the half-hearted protest of Zack, but I respond in kind.

"GROWN WOMEN ARE TALKING! TAKE YOUR MEN FOLK BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!"

We burst out laughing as Zack shouted back, "DOWN WITH THE MATRIARCHY! ACCEPT EQUAL RIGHTS!"

Zack POV

As we stopped the good natured ribbing, I really only noticed two things that weren't free that we absolutely couldn't live without.

The perk that gives us 10 years in any martial art that exists anywhere in the multiverse reduces to the strength of the hunter X hunter world for the duration of the jump for 100 CPfor each martial art to a maximum of two-.

That was cooking with butter- Especially with our ability to use style Ki.

Even then, what's to stop us from picking 6 different martial arts and then teaching each other the martial arts we didn't pick.

Then there was the Nen talent which if we picked the maximum that gave us 10 times the talent of the king ant for 800 CP-

Well, shit, we just reached the level of strength of a nuclear missile.

Hayato would be proud.

Anyway, picking that also gives us Jumper the Baptist and advanced techniques for free, which allows us to give anyone all types of energy we possess with no side-effects at a beginner level, and an instinctive understanding of all nen techniques like, Gyo, how to create a Hatsu, Shu, En, the whole goddamn set- respectively.

Then I go to the next page and note that I have 1000 NP to spend on Affinities for picking the 10x king ant talent.

Of course, I know, I'm already gonna be an enhancer, but I'm a simple asshole, so I buy all 400 in enhancement perks, the 400 NP in enhancer quality allows me to basically have 300% affinity for enhancement along with a bonus of 300% strength of enhancement.

I then see the ability to enhance aspects of myself when applying a portion of my nen to it.

Fucking conceptual nonsense like giving a portion of my nen to enhance my luck for the cost of my total nen amount while it's happening? For 100 NP?

Fucking sign me the motherfuck up.

Then there was the ability to apply that to items- and shrug.

If I wanted that I would just grab a conjurer bonus.

I turned the page.

I put 100% into both emission and transmutation to make them go from the 100% that my Enhancement made them, and now they are at 200% each.

That's right, I'm stealing Killua's lightning shit and making it better by shooting lighting that I will enhance with my OP enhancement and blast the shit out of people.

Heck yeah!

I now have 0 NP.

I go back a few pages to grab my two martial arts. I initially tried to choose the Hokuto shinken from fist of the north star as my first martial art, but for some reason the pen refuses to write it down. It even erases itself over and over.

I growl, and speak up. "Jump-chan?! Why can't I grab Hokuto Shinken from this?"

Jump-chan turns to me, gives me an incredulous 'are you stupid?' look, and then goes back to eating.

Miu comes over and pats me on the head. "There, There, I'll be the brains for both of us."

No one deigns to answer my question.

Nobara then takes pity on me.

"It's a martial art based on instantly killing someone by poking them, you literally can't make it any weaker or it wouldn't be Hokuto Shinken. Therefore, no 'already dead' for you."

I frown, nod, and then enter the rock slicing, exploding heart release fist and water stream rock smashing fist.

Because who doesn't want both of those styles and the easy creation of the third once both are mastered.

It's basically 3 martial arts that are all OP with a little extra training.

Nobara POV.

I do the exact same thing Zack did by making myself a Nen monster. Like, Seriously, who doesn't want to be a badass like that?

Eh? I'm apparently a natural Emitter. I guess that fits me, but I want to be able to fight up-close too.

I'm already basically an Emitter/Conjurer with my cursed energy, so I I might as well also focus on Enhancer stuff.

I smirked at the gaming potential of the item enhancement.

I buy everything on the enhancer page.

Think of the enhanced GPU that can play a fully modded and tricked out fallout 4 and Skyrim at the same time! With a 50$ computer! Or even a raspberry pi! Holy shit! I'm gonna enhance a raspberry pi to be a super-computer! All I have to do is dump all my Enhancer Nen into it once and Bam! Permanently OP computer for nothing at all!

Cheap gaming plan complete.

Wait- but Zack is rich!

I start fantasizing about super infinite LOD Skyrim with every Graphics mod combined by just dumping a bit of nen into the computer!

Wait- can I enhance network speed?!

I snap out of my nerdgasm with Zack tapping my shoulder in concern.

"Are you okay? Nobara?"

I gulp. "Peachy."

I grabbed Konoha Strong Fist Style and Renewal Taekwondo Style.

Miu POV

I stare at the piece of paper.

Manipulation 100%.

Motherfucker I am not a fucking manipulator.

It didn't change.

Manipulation 100%.

I grit my teeth and my rage grew.

It still didn't change.

Manipulation 100%.

I would fucking kill this piece of goddamn paper this motherfucker says I'm like that hisoka person? Or that Illumi bastard?! Fuck you!

All of a sudden, the gray page turned blue.

Huh?

Specialist?

My smile grew.

First thing I did was write in a vow- if I ever breathe air again all my potential for manipulation Nen will be dumped into Enhancement Nen.

After selecting my Enhancer stuff, as well as a bit of transmutation and conjuration stuff, I grab a martial art from an anime I watched when I was younger.

Reshuken Is not only OP as fuck, it also reminds me of good times.

I still wouldn't want to go to the YuYu hakusho world though.

I shrug and then grab turtle school style from Dragon ball Z, which then promptly erases itself.

I blush in embarrassment and then choose something a little less world destroying overpowered.

Unable to think of anything, I ask, "Hey Nobara, what martial art would you choose if you had a third slot?"

"Kyotouryuu, It's basically a kind of 'your body is a sword so cut everything' type of fighting style." she said, all while filling out her body mod.

Okay then, I got Reshuken and Kyotouryuu.

I grab spiked metal knee length boots as my signature weapon- which is free.

I discount a copy of the multiversal version of greed island that changes based on the universe your in that comes back to you when you call for it along with the console, and then spend my 200 point stipend on the half-priced thing.

I smirk and see that Zack discounted the organization and wrote "Tojo Clan" as his item. He also chose 'A motherfucking coffin that transforms into armor that emphasizes gauntlets and boots of a really good energy enhance-able material when you press a button on its side that attaches itself to you really fast.Like a fucking magical girl transformation except with a badass coffin I can carry on my back.' as his Signature weapon and outfit combined.

"Wait, you can do that?!" I exclaimed.

"It was a cool Idea, so I greenlit it." Jumpchain called over, somehow still eating a pizza and staring into space after 5 fucking hours of us filling these out.

I shrug, and change my entry.

'Dress that can change into any other clothing in appearance and has a combat form that I can choose the color of. It comes with Combat boots and gauntlet attachments with pink skulls as knuckle extensions and pink hearts that shoot at people when you kick attached to the boots.'

Jump-chan calls out. "I don't like the pink hearts, but the gauntlets are okay and you can have spiky metal boots too okay?"

I shrug. "Fine by me."

"Done." Nobara says with a smirk. "I now own a copy of Kukuru mountain and a homunculous staff of butlers that appears on every jump. Hail me, for I now own a fancy mountain with a couple mansions- without the assassins- but still cool as shit."

I looked over at Nobara who also did our signature weapon and outfit thing, 'The ultimate weapon and armor combo! A crowbar with an extension that makes the crow-bar-tonfa the ultimate extension! This Crowbar tonfa gauntlet, the most powerful weapon in the shadow who hunts the shadows arsenal, has come yet again, in the form of a slime-suit that can turn into any clothing as long as cursed energy or other types of energy are applied! Forsooth! It is even more powerful than the almighty +9 mithril pebble of pig slaying! For you see! None could ever hope to defeat the +100 Slime-suit-crowbar-tonfa-gauntlet-boot-set. It would shred the barbarian in his very den by striking back through time and making him never lift a weapon for fear of his sheer inadequacy!'

"Weaponized Slime suit approved Nobara, good use of memes." I heard jump-chan say.

"You forgot your drop-in freebies, so I just tossed them in there. Lots of survival knowledge andanimals love ya."

I turned to Zack who just spent 400 points on our hammer-space document to make it even bigger and the other 100 for this jump, the opening was now more flexible and able to stretch to be larger.

I spent my bodymod finishing out all my street fighter base-body additions and stared at my 100 points remaining. Skipping to add the no-sleep endurance option in the metahuman setting was a huge mistake for various reasons. I blushed. Coughed, and then turned my thoughts somewhere else.

Since I don't want to buy shrimp-colors-. Which is optional for a damn good reason, I just decided to save it for the next jump.

Looking around I see I was the last one to finish.

"Okay, Well, go have fun while I enjoy my life by being the biggest cosmic reality-TV host that is the only one that gets to watch her show! Bye!" Was the last thing I heard before we were- instead of sitting on a couch, standing in a crowd staring at a child wearing a green jacket, green pants, and carrying a fishing rod.

"I can't believe he actually caught it!" peanut gallery member one shouted.

"The king of the swamp! It's so big! I wonder what it tastes like cooked!" I heard another kid say.

Nobara grabbed me by the hand and pulled me towards Zack who was already walking towards the port docks.

As Nobara and Miu came up behind me and the false in-jump memories poured into me, I examined the boat in front of me.

It was massive, a hulking behemoth of steel and wood that dwarfed any galleon I had ever seen, even in pictures.

Its towering masts scraped the sky, adorned with sails that billowed in the salty breeze like the wings of a monstrous bird.

The hull, reinforced with thick iron plates and studded with cannons, exuded an air of both elegance and raw power, a testament to the maritime prowess of this world.

"The anime fucking lied to me about this ship." I said, "This doesn't even look similar to what I saw in the anime at all!"

Ignoring the throngs of aspiring Hunters jostling for position on the crowded docks, we effortlessly leaped onto the deck, our enhanced strength and agility making the jump a mere trifle.

The air buzzed with a cacophony of languages and accents, a testament to the diverse backgrounds of those seeking to join the ranks of the Hunters.

Many tried to project an air of intimidation, their faces twisted into scowls and their bodies adorned with weapons and scars.

It was obvious to me that they were nothing more than amateurs playing dress-up.

"This place is insane," Nobara muttered, her eyes scanning the crowd with a mix of curiosity and amusement. "It's like a circus sideshow, only with more knives and scowls."

She smirked, "Look at that literal clown!"

For a moment I panicked when she said clown, wondering if this was an AU world where Hisoka actually was in the first boat-

Only to deadpan when I saw a literal fat clown with knives plastered all over his body.

Miu chuckled, her gaze sweeping across the deck. "They're clearly just a bunch of wannabe tough guys trying to look intimidating. They have no idea what they're getting themselves into."

As we navigated the crowded deck, our false memories intertwined, weaving a shared history that felt strangely real.

We had been orphans, abandoned in the infamous Meteor City, a lawless craphole where survival was a daily struggle.

On our fourteenth birthdays, we had decided to escape, to forge our own destinies beyond the confines of that desolate place.

For five years, we had trained together, honing our skills and preparing for the day we would attempt the Hunter Exam.

Now, at nineteen years old, we stood on the precipice of our goal, Becoming hunters.

"This world's technology is surprisingly advanced," I commented, noting the sleek design of the ship and the various gadgets and devices I saw people carrying in my memory. "It's pretty weird to think this world is in 1999."

Miu nodded in agreement. "Maybe it's the influence of Nen and the Hunters who specialize in technology," she suggested. "They could be pushing the boundaries of what's possible."

We found a secluded spot near the railing, away from the prying eyes and boisterous chatter of the other examinees.

The vast expanse of the ocean stretched before us, its waves sparkling under the bright morning sun.

A sense of anticipation filled the air as the ship set sail. A few moments later, I noticed the protagonist of this world got onto the ship using his fishing rod.

I noticed the captain, and decided to mix things up. "Hey, preliminary mr. examiner! The ship is too damn crowded! If I kick some asses, will you disqualify me? I'm just trying to help out."

The old captain with the white hair, white beard, and sailor style clothing frowned.

"Damnit, kid, I was trying to pretend to be a normal ship captain and you ruined my facade. Well, since my normal way of weeding out morons won't work anymore, feel free to play examiner, just be fair alright!"

I nodded, "Sure, I'll just use martial arts and hold back my strength to what I think the minimum should be to even be here."

Everyone was scowling at me now except for the green themed protagonist, the blonde tabard wearing bro with the burning need for vengeance and-.

It looks like Leorio is also scowling at me.

I do remember him needing a reality check at the start of the series.

Whatever.

"Alright weaklings and morons! Fight me or fight me! You have no choice, because if you don't come to me, I'll certainly come to you!"

I rapidly use observe on everyone to gauge their strength, and there are only 5 others that meet my minimum and that includes the three protagonist people.

I point to Leorio, Kurapika, and Gon, along with a green haired dude in a fancy red suit and earrings- wait, is that a tojo clan emblem? I guess buying the Tojo clan into this world had some changes.

I then pointed to the guy next to him who also had a Gold Tojo Emblem.

"Spiky hair and suit, spiky hair and fishing pole with the green ensemble, blue-tabard-blondie, Green-red Tojo goldie, and the tojo with the other gold emblem who has a weird fashion sense and the ginger hair! You all already passed my test due to sufficient strength!"

"Tie Dye clothing is in peak fashion! You wanna go?!"

The green haired guy pulled his colorfully fashioned friend aside.

He urgently whispered in his ear and then the ginger looked away. "Fine. Thanks for passing me, strong guy."

"NOW THEN! PROVE YOURSELF OR GET OFF THE NICE CAPTAIN'S SHINY ASS SHIP!"

A wide grin spread across my face as I surveyed the sea of scowling faces before me.

The challenge had been issued, and the weaklings were about to be separated from the worthy.

Miu and Nobara, sensing the impending chaos, wisely retreated to the top of the rigging, their amused expressions adding to the entertainment value of the spectacle.

"Don't be too harsh on them, Zack," Miu called down, her voice laced with a hint of playful mockery. "Remember, they're just a bunch of amateurs."

Nobara chimed in from the background, "Yeah, try not to break too many bones. We still need some of them around for the actual exam."

I chuckled, my excitement building as the first wave of examinees charged towards me.

With a deep breath, I settled into a stance, relying solely on the strength and skills honed through years of martial arts training and the enhancements provided by the body mod.

Nen and Ki would be overkill against these amateurs.

The next few minutes were a blur of motion.

"Ooh, that one was graceful! Like a drunken flamingo!" Nobara called as one man flailed backwards and hit his head on his way down.

Miu Laughed as another went face first into the drink, "Ten out of ten for that faceplant! Bravo!"

Fists and feet along with knives and assorted implements of cutting and stabbing flew towards me from all directions, but I met each attack with effortless grace, my body twisting and turning like a willow in the wind.

"Someone gets that man a life preserver... and a sense of balance. 1 out of 10!" was Miu's response to one guy charging forward and then just tripping on a hook for the rigging.

With my left leg and right palm, I twisted one man's arm and opposite leg into a spinning, flying trajectory across into the ship and over the rainbow. "He's spinning like a top! Someone get that man a prize!" Nobara cracked up.

"He's doing the backstroke... with his face! 9 out of 10!" Miu called out with a stunned proclamation as another man just skipped like a rock, face first, and somehow just kept skipping on his face without his body hitting the water.

One by one, the wannabe Hunters were flung overboard, their bodies arcing through the air in a symphony of flailing limbs and comical screams.

Miu's laughter echoed from above as she provided a running commentary on the spectacle. "Eight out of ten for that splash!" she declared as a particularly lanky examinee pinwheeled through the air before landing with a resounding splash.

"Bonus points for style!" Nobara's voice chimed in as another unfortunate soul was sent cartwheeling over the railing, his limbs flailing like a windmilling scarecrow.

I grinned, enjoying the show as much as they were.

My movements were fluid and powerful, each block and counter-attack sending another examinee tumbling into the ocean below. As the numbers dwindled, the quality of the remaining examinees began to improve to barely below not crap.

"Look at him go! He's flying like a majestic... potato. Like literally out of a potato launcher. To the moon, my friend. To the moon."

A few skilled martial artists managed to last a bit longer, their techniques showing a glimmer of understanding and experience.

But even though they were no match for my enhanced strength and speed, their efforts were ultimately futile against the redirecting power of the water stream rock smashing fist.

One by one, they too succumbed, their bodies joining the growing collection of floundering figures in the ocean below.

The final non-canon and non-tojo opponent approached. A large muscly guy slowly approached with a cocky grin on his face.

This guy felt weak though. I'm so confused right now.

He threw a punch.

It was telegraphed but he somehow expected it to hit.

I could tell he was somehow confident in his absolute trash technique.

I sighed, I punched forward and heard a sickening crack.

His neck broke from what was basically a love-tap to the jaw.

I just stared at the giant ball of stupid as it fell and then slid off the deck into the water.

"That's what you get for trying to look tough, you poser! 0 out of 10!" was Miu's final call.

I blinked.

I decided to just forget that stupidity.

It started raining, and the remaining 8 people, tye dye included, entered the cabin below.

5.3
I led the way down the narrow staircase, the damp air of the cabin heavy with the scent of the sea and rain.

With a smile, I lowered the massive coffin from my back, the thud of its impact against the wooden floor resonating through the cramped space.

The other examinees, already huddled around a low table, turned their gazes towards me, their expressions a mix of surprise and apprehension.

"Holy shit, how much does that thing wei-"

I immediately interrupt tie-dye suit guy. "Alright," I announced, my voice gaining the attention of the others. "Let's get to know each other. Introduce yourselves, tell us what you like, dislike, and your dreams for the future."

I decided to set an example. "I'm Zack," I stated simply. "I like sushi and my two girlfriends. I dislike evil people, weak people trying to act tough, and those who harm others without considering the consequences."

A mischievous grin spread across my face. "My current goal is to become a great Gourmet Hunter, so I can make the best sushi in the world and eat it without paying a single jenny."

Gon, ever the enthusiastic one, jumped at the opportunity to speak next. "I'm Gon!" he exclaimed, his voice bright and cheerful. "I like fishing, exploring, and making friends. I dislike bullies and people who hurt animals. My dream is to become a Hunter like my dad and find him!"

Kurapika followed, his voice calm and measured. "I am Kurapika," he stated simply. "I enjoy reading and learning new things. I dislike those who exploit and harm others for their own gain."

He paused, his eyes flashing with a brief, crimson light before returning to their usual amber hue. "As for my dream... that is a matter I prefer to keep private."

Nobara leaned back in her chair, a confident smirk playing on her lips. "Name's Nobara Kugisaki," she announced, her voice laced with a playful arrogance.

"I'm all about looking fabulous, technology, and reading about cool shit like comics, and kicking ass. Dislikes? Boring or evil people, fashion disasters, and anyone who underestimates me."

She paused, her smirk widening into a mischievous grin. "And my dream? To become the baddest, most stylish Blacklist hunter the world has ever seen. Just wait and see! I'll turn everyone on the most wanted list into mincemeat believe it! I'll be the Blacklist Hunter Hokage, the goddamn best, like no one ever was!"

Miu chuckled, shaking her head in amusement. "Always the drama queen, Nobara."

She turned her gaze towards the others, her eyes sparkling with a mix of mischief and determination. "I'm Miu Furinji. I enjoy the finer things in life- delicious food, intense training sessions, and the satisfying feeling of a well-executed technique against a worthy opponent."

Her smile turned predatory. "As for my dislikes, let's just say that evil doesn't stand a chance against me. I'll dedicate my life to protecting the innocent and ensuring that darkness never prevails."

She leaned back, her expression thoughtful. "And my dream? To become a warrior worthy of my grandfather's legacy, a symbol of hope and justice in a world filled with chaos."

Nobara raised an eyebrow, a glint in her eyes. "Sounds like someone's been reading too many hero comics," she teased, earning a glare from Miu.

"Hey, those stories teach valuable lessons about courage, responsibility, and the power of believing in yourself, and you have nothing to say, Ms. Hokage!" Miu retorted with a mock pout.

Nobara shrugged, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. "Yeah, yeah, with great power comes great responsibility and all that jazz. But let's be real, the best part is watching the bad guys get what they deserve."

"Can't argue with that," Miu conceded with a chuckle. "Especially when we're the ones delivering the justice."

Nobara's grin widened, and she raised her fist in the air. "To friendship, justice, and looking damn good while we're at it!" she declared, her voice ringing with a enthusiasm that was impossible to resist.

"Umm, ladies?" I piped in, "Isn't that a little over-sharing?"

They both paused, Looked at each other and then shrugged. "I guess I got carried away." Nobara said.

"I just did what Nobara did," Miu said, "That was too much, yeah."

The two Tojo Clan members followed suit, their introductions brief and to the point.

Shunsuke, his calculating green eyes scanning the group with a sharp gaze, spoke first. "Shunsuke Akagi," he stated simply, his voice carrying an air focused nonchalance, he flicked his Tojo emblem and said. "My interests lie in strategy, efficiency, and expanding the clan's influence within this world."

A subtle smirk played on his lips. "My goal is to become a Blacklist Hunter, to demonstrate the Tojo Clan's power and earn the respect of our esteemed leader."

Renjiro, his laid-back posture and mischievous grin a stark contrast to Shunsuke's seriousness, leaned back in his chair. "Renjiro Momota," he drawled, his voice laced with a playful lilt. "I enjoy a good drink, a bit of chaos, and pushing the boundaries of what's possible."

He winked at Nobara, his eyes forward and smirking, he even ran his hands through his ginger bangs. His pony-tail swayed left and right briefly.

"And like my esteemed colleague, I aim to become a Blacklist Hunter. Gotta impress the boss, you know, my fashion sense isn't the only thing I should be good at right?"

"If you wink at me like that again you'll be missing that eye, you fashion disaster." Nobara said with a smile on her face.

Renjiro froze for a moment mid-motion, and then nodded. "Right."

We all turned to the last one, an awkward silence settled over the cabin as all eyes turned to Leorio, who sat slumped in his chair, his arms crossed and his gaze fixed on the wall with a sullen expression.

A full minute passed, the only sound the creaking of the ship and the gentle lapping of waves against the hull.

Renjiro, his patience wearing thin, leaned forward, an angry look growing in his eyes.

"So," he drawled, his voice laced with a irritated sarcasm, "cat got your tongue? Everyone else has shared at least a little of their life stories, the least you could do is tell us your name."

Leorio responded by propping his feet on the table, his boots leaving muddy streaks across the polished wood.

A collective frown of disapproval rippled through the group.

Kurapika, his eyes flashing with anger, slammed his fist on the table.

"Show some respect!" he demanded, his voice tight with barely controlled fury. "We're all here for the same reason, to become Hunters. The least you can do is treat your fellow examinees with some decency."

Leorio scoffed, his expression defiant. "Decency?" he sneered. "I don't owe any of you anything. I certainly don't need your lectures on respect."

Miu rolled her eyes, while Nobara muttered something about "fucking moron" under her breath.

I remained silent, observing the escalating tension with a detached curiosity.

Leorio's behavior was predictable, his need to prove himself masking a deep insecurity.

He reminded me of a stray dog, all bark and very little bite, desperately seeking attention and validation.

At least at this point in the timeline.

The argument continued, with Shunsuke starting in a threatening tone. "You have two tojo of high standing, a couple lovely ladies, and a guy who just kicked the ass of everyone above without breaking a sweat asking for your name. If you don't show us some damn respect soon, I might just have to throw you over myself."

"Shunsuke's right, Respect is earned, but I think a few of us have earned at least a little. So maybe drop the rude attitude."

"You think you're better than me?" Leorio snarled, rising from his chair and stepping towards Kurapika. "Just because you're some stuck-up asshole with fancy clothes and a holier-than-thou attitude?"

Kurapika's eyes narrowed, his fists clenching at his sides. "I'm not better than anyone, and that suit looks like it cost more than half the money I've seen in my journey to get here." he retorted, his voice low and dangerous. "But I do believe in treating others with respect, something you clearly lack."

The tension reached a boiling point, their anger palpable in the air.

It was clear that words were no longer enough.

They needed to settle this with their fists.

With a shared, unspoken agreement, they stormed out onto the deck, the others following close behind.

The storm raged around them, the wind whipping at their hair and clothes as they faced off against each other, their bodies tense with anticipation.

The wind howled, the rain lashing against their faces as Kurapika and Leorio circled each other, their eyes locked in a silent battle of wills.

Leorio, charged forward, his fists raised in a clumsy boxing stance.

Kurapika, his movements fluid and precise, sidestepped the attack with ease, his own fist connecting with a sharp jab to Leorio's ribs and a quick hit to his jaw.

Leorio grunted in pain, but his aggression only intensified.

He launched a wild haymaker, aiming for Kurapika's head, but the blonde haired youth ducked under the blow, countering with a swift uppercut that snapped Leorio's head back.

Leorio took a step back, and then pushed forward with a headbutt.

Undeterred, Kurapika side-stepped his stupid move, only for leorio to twist and use momentum and his long legs to direct a kick to Kurapika's side.

Kurapika barely dodged.

Leorio pressed his attack, his fists a flurry of punches and swings, most of which were easily dodged or deflected by Kurapika's superior speed and technique, the rest were barely glancing blows.

Leorio was physically strong, but his movements were unrefined, his attacks lacking the precision and control of a trained martial artist, and his boxing was amateur.

Kurapika, on the other hand, fought with a calm focus, his every movement calculated and efficient.

He landed a series of precise strikes, targeting Leorio's weak points with the accuracy of a surgeon.

Each blow, while not powerful enough to cause serious injury, left its mark, slowly chipping away at Leorio's stamina and resolve.

Leorio stumbled back, his breath coming in ragged gasps as he struggled to keep up with Kurapika's relentless assault.

Frustration and exhaustion clouded his judgment, his attacks becoming even wilder and more predictable.

With a swift movement, Kurapika seized an opening, his leg sweeping out in a perfectly timed leg sweep that sent Leorio crashing to the deck.

He landed with a thud, the air momentarily knocked from his lungs.

Kurapika stood over him, his expression stoic, offering a hand to help him up. "Yield," he said simply, his voice devoid of malice or triumph. "You've fought well, but you're outmatched."

Leorio slowly stood up.

Determination showed in his eyes, it seemed as if he was about to say something stupid, but-

We all noticed that a young sailor who was trying to secure the rigging was launched overboard.

Eyes wide, Leorio was the first to dive to catch him, he over-shot but caught him. Kurapika followed suit, but also fell over.

I decided to jump in and grab Kurapika's leg.

I quickly pulled them all back over onto the deck.

A few moments passed in stunned silence.

"You saved him? I thought you were just an entitled asshole-"

Kurapika began, but Leorio interrupted. "Damn, fine. Sorry. I just wanted to establish my bonafides. You realize everyone around us are fucking monstrously strong right? Those two are even Tojo clan yakuza! The two girls are probably just as strong as the absolute monster in the middle! ARGH!" He slammed the deck with the bottom of his clenched fist."

"Yeah, I know that was shit-dumb of me. Me! Posing like a peacock in front of the guy who just said he hated that! Fuck! I feel like such a dumbass and now I'm pouring my heart out after getting my shit kicked in! So yeah! I needed to save the deck-hand! Alright! I'm not some big badass!"

Everyone paused in bafflement.

"Alright." I said. "I guess you get another chance."

I smiled. "Introduce yourself."

He sighed in relief.

The panic left him and he spoke. "My name is Leorio. I wanna get enough money to learn to be a doctor in the best college in Yorknew. Yorknew University of the Medical Arts. I wanna earn enough money so I don't have to charge the poor, but can charge out the ass for rich assholes."

I nodded. "You know, Being a medical hunter is a good idea. You could make even more money that way. Medical Hunters are the top of the medical field. Just going to college seems like a waste."

His eyes widened. "Wait? Hunters have categories like that?"

Shunsuke gave him a baffled look. "You didn't know that? You're taking the Hunter exam and you don't know what kind of Hunter you want to be? Holy shit." He then burst out laughing.

Everyone else followed suit.

"Dammit! It's not funny!" came leorio's response.

Nobara POV

"Well that was interesting," I said as the sun started peaking through the cloudy sky. "Totally stupid though."

Miu nodded as the clouds started disappearing unnaturally quickly.

Ignoring the obvious use of Nen, I noticed the captain moving towards us.

"Alright, you lot," he began, his voice gruff but I could see a smirk of amusement peeking out of his white beard and mustache. "You've proven yourselves capable of handling a bit of rough weather and a touch of chaos. Now, tell me, what kind of Hunters do you aspire to be, and why?"

Again, the small protagonist went first.

"I'm Gon!" he declared, his voice ringing with protagonist-grade infectious energy. "I love fishing, exploring, and making new friends! I can't stand bullies or anyone who hurts animals." His eyes sparkled with determination as he added, "My dream is to become a Hunter, just like my dad, and find him! Mito wouldn't tell me what kind of hunter he was, but I want to be that kind!"

Next came Leorio, his posture straighter and his voice more subdued than during his earlier outburst. "My name is Leorio," he stated, a newfound seriousness in his tone. "I want to become a Medical Hunter."

He paused, his gaze distant as he seemed to recall a painful memory. "I lost a friend to an illness that could have been cured if I had the money and the resources," he confessed, his voice thick with emotion, anger and sadness flowing from his words. "I don't want anyone else to suffer the same fate. I want to help people, to heal them, and to ensure that everyone has access to the medical care they ought to have as a matter of course."

His eyes met the captain's with force, his expression filled with a fierce determination. "That's why I'm here," he declared, shoving his thumb against his chest. "I'm going to become a Medical Hunter, no matter what it takes."

When it came to Kurapika's turn, Kurapika started with what he said downstairs. "I want to become a blacklist hunter. The reason is private."

The captain raised his hand. "Lad," he said, his voice firm but gentle, "your eyes hold a darkness that cannot be ignored. Share your burden with us. Let us understand the path you walk. I can't allow a blacklist hunter to become the thing they hunt. Too many have. This is why I have to ask."

Kurapika hesitated, his gaze dropping to the deck as a wave of pain washed over his features. He took a deep breath, as if steeling himself. Then rage poured off him, his eyes darted up as his eyes turned the color of blood.

"My clan... the Kurta Clan... was massacred," he said, his voice hoarse with hatred and contempt. "They were hunted down and slaughtered for their Scarlet Eyes, coveted treasures sought after by collectors and those who deal in the macabre."

His fists clenched at his sides, his body trembling with fury. "The perpetrators... they call themselves the Phantom Troupe. A group of ruthless thieves and murderers who leave a trail of death and destruction wherever they go."

He lifted his gaze again, determination replacing rage. "I will become a Blacklist Hunter," he declared, his voice ringing with conviction. "I will hunt down every last member of the Phantom Troupe and bring them to justice. I will avenge my clan and ensure that their sacrifice was not in vain."

A heavy silence descended upon the group as we absorbed the weight of Kurapika's words. The captain nodded slowly, his expression a mixture of understanding and sympathy.

"Very well, I won't try to discourage you- I know the eyes of someone whose path is set." he said, his voice grave. "You have all passed the preliminary test. Welcome aboard the 2nd preliminary of the Hunter Exam."

A few hours later, the ship docked at a bustling port town, the closest point of access to Zaban City, the location of the Hunter Exam's next phase. As the examinees disembarked, the captain pulled us aside, his expression serious.

"The path to Zaban City is fraught with danger, But since I like the eight of you, I'll tel you-" he began, "The public transportation and hired vehicles will be traps, designed to weed out the weak and the unwary. Those who take the easy route will find themselves facing obstacles that will prevent them from reaching the exam on time. You guys gotta go to the big tree on the mountain in the opposite direction."

"Thanks! Old man! I'll definitely be a hunter!" Gon called out, as the other 4 of them followed.

"Alright. Cool, let's get some hunter power!" I moved to follow, but Zack grabbed my wrist.

"What zack? We're falling be-" I noticed that Zack was looking at the Captain who seemed to be waiting for the others to be out of earshot.

The captain turned his gaze towards Zack, a knowing glint in his eyes. "For those with sufficient strength of a certain variety," he continued, "there is another way. A hidden path through the forest, a straight shot to Zaban City. But it is not for the faint of heart. Only those who are willing to face the unknown and push their limits should attempt it."

He gestured towards the dense, overgrown forest that stretched beyond the outskirts of the town. "The choice is yours," he said, his voice a low rumble.

Zack POV

I let go of Nobara's wrist and glanced at both Miu and Nobara, their expressions mirroring my own smirk. We had faced far greater dangers than a mere forest. We were ready for whatever challenges this hidden path might hold.

"Lead the way," I said, my confident smirk turning to a grin.

The Hunter Exam was about to get interesting.

I led Nobara and Miu to the edge of the bustling port town, the dense, overgrown forest looming before us like a wall of emerald green and branches brown and black.

The air hung heavy with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, a stark contrast to the salty tang of the ocean breeze we had grown accustomed to on the ship.

"Before we enter," I announced, lowering myself to the ground and gesturing for the others to follow suit, "I think we need to take a moment to prepare."

Miu and Nobara settled beside me, their expressions mirroring my own seriousness. "You're thinking about Nen, aren't you?" Miu inquired, a smirk in her tone as well as on her face.

I nodded, my gaze fixed on the tangled undergrowth of the forest. "This path is meant to test us, to push us beyond our limits. I have a feeling that our physical abilities alone might not be enough."

Nobara cracked her knuckles, her grin just as excited as her movements as she stretched. "Then let's unlock our Nen potential. I'm ready to see what this whole aura thing is all about."

We closed our eyes, focusing our minds inward as we began the Nen meditation technique. Thanks to the immense talent we had purchased from Jump-Chan, the process was effortless.

Within thirty seconds, we felt the nodes within our bodies open, allowing the flow of aura to course through us like a rushing river.

We each instinctively utilized Ten, shrouding ourselves in a protective veil of aura, and activated Ren, amplifying our presence and projecting our newfound power outward.

A moment later, we returned to the neutral state of Ten, our bodies tingling with the awareness of our awakened Nen.

"Ready?" I asked, my voice laced with anticipation.

Miu and Nobara nodded, their expressions mirroring my own excitement.

We rose to our feet and entered the forest, our bodies moving with a newfound lightness and power.

The dense foliage closed in around us as we sprinted through the undergrowth, our enhanced speed allowing us to navigate the treacherous terrain with ease.

Trees blurred past us, their branches reaching out like grasping claws, but we effortlessly dodged and weaved, our senses heightened by our Nen.

A full minute later, our progress was abruptly halted by a figure standing in the middle of the path.

It was a woman, her slender form cloaked in a dark, flowing kimono.

Her face was obscured by shadows, and no matter how hard we tried to focus, we couldn't discern her features.

Even her height seemed to fluctuate, shifting and changing like a mirage.

We instinctively adopted our respective martial arts stances, our bodies tense and alert as we assessed the potential threat.

"Welcome to the maximum difficulty path to Zaban City," the woman spoke, her voice a soft but powerful whisper that seemed to echo through the forest. "My name is Nightshade, and I am a Double-Star Blacklist Hunter. Let us test your strength."

As soon as her last word fell, the forest came alive with Nen controlled plants, the trees grew uncontrollably and launched towards us.

Miu POV

The forest erupted into chaos as Nightshade unleashed her Nen, the once tranquil trees twisting and contorting into monstrous shapes, their branches lashing out like venomous serpents.

A silent understanding passed between Zack, Nobara, and me. We would face this challenge head-on, relying solely on our newly awakened Nen and honed martial arts skills.

Battle Ki, Style Ki, and cursed energy would be reserved for moments of true desperation, a hidden trump card against those who sought to end our lives.

This world would only see our Nen.

We would play by its rules unless it was necessary not to.

Zack, with his enhanced strength and speed, took the lead, his movements a blur as he weaved through the grasping branches and snapping vines.

His fists and feet struck with precision and power, shattering wood and sending splinters flying.

Yet, despite his impressive display of martial prowess, he couldn't seem to land a blow on Nightshade.

She flitted through the trees like a phantom, her movements graceful and effortless, always one step ahead of his attacks.

"Impressive reflexes," Nightshade's voice echoed through the forest, a soft whisper that carried a hint of amusement. "But speed alone will not suffice."

Nobara, her straw doll materializing beside her, this time formed by Nen, launching a barrage of Nen-infused nails beside her, their tips shimmering with a variety of effects. Some crackled with electricity, others pulsed with a searing heat.

But like Zack's strikes, they failed to connect, deflected by a swirling barrier of leaves or intercepted by thick, thorny vines that sprouted from the ground like grasping claws.

"Your ingenuity is commendable, " Nightshade's voice commented, her tone almost patronizing. "But your attacks lack focus, precision."

I channeled my Nen, feeling the familiar warmth and power flow through my body. With a swift movement, I activated my Ren, amplifying my presence and pushing my aura to its limits. The forest floor trembled beneath my feet as I launched myself forward, my body a blur as I closed the distance between myself and Nightshade.

She turned to face me, her eyes hidden in the shadows of her hood, but I could sense a flicker of surprise in her aura. My fist, enhanced by my Nen, shot forward like a piston, aimed at her midsection. At the last moment, she vanished, reappearing several meters away, perched on a tree branch like a graceful bird of prey.

"Your strength is remarkable," she observed, her voice echoing through the trees. "But power without control is meaningless."

Frustration gnawed at me, but I refused to give up. We continued our assault, our attacks growing more coordinated and strategic as we tried to anticipate Nightshade's movements and exploit any openings in her defense. Yet, she remained elusive, her mastery of Nen and her control over the forest environment keeping her just out of reach, the branches and trees pulling her out of the way every time.

Zack POV

Frustration gnawed at me as our attacks continued to miss their mark. Nightshade's mastery of Nen and her control over the forest environment made her an elusive target, her movements fluid and unpredictable. We needed a new strategy, a way to break through her defenses and gain the upper hand.

"Miu, Nobara," I called out, my voice low and urgent, "I'm going to create a diversion. Focus your attacks and be ready to strike when the opportunity arises."

With a burst of speed, I charged forward, weaving through the grasping branches and snapping vines.

I intentionally made my movements larger and more devastating, smashing large portions of the forest which grew back slower and slower, drawing Nightshade's attention and luring her into following my movements, her eyes began tracking my every step, seemingly convinced that I was the primary threat.

This was the moment we had been waiting for.

Nobara, despite her specialization in Emission and Conjuration, channeled her surprisingly potent Enhancement Nen, her aura surging around her hands and legs, she pounced forwards and as she reached out towards Nightshade.

Thick, thorny vines sprouted from the ground due to her having noticed.

Nightshade gasped in surprise when Nobara tore through the roots and thorns with no damage to herself, Nobara then grabbed her in a hold that would surely keep her immobile.

Miu seized the opportunity, her eyes gleaming with a predatory glint. Miu called out, her voice clear and confident, "Do we pass?" While carrying a massive boulder shrouded in Shu, ready to smash it into Nightshade

A voice, identical to Nightshade's, echoed through the forest, "Indeed."

But the Nightshade before us remained silent, her expression unreadable beneath the shadows of her hood.

Confusion and a sudden surge of apprehension washed over us as we realized something was amiss.

Slowly, we turned our heads to the left, our eyes widening in shock as we saw 3 more Nightshades standing mere inches away. A wicked-looking wooden dagger, its entirety dripping with a corrosive liquid, was pressed against each of our throats.

"You do, in fact, pass," each of them said, a chilling smile playing on their lips for a moment only to be hidden beneath the hooded Kimono each of them were wearing.

An hour passed and we were standing in front of an unassuming restaurant that served steak.

We entered, and gave the password nightshade gave to us.

"Table for three for the steak special, we'll take the back room." I said.

"How would you like those cooked?" The person behind the counter asked.

"Cooked hot, over the coals and fires that begin and end with the letter N."

He nodded, hiding shock for some reason. "Go ahead then, I think you've probably already passed this whole thing if you have that."

I don't think that was the standard password.

We entered the back room that was also an elevator.

Miu looked confused and suspicious due to her never having watched the anime and only getting the basics downloaded into her brain via Jump-Chan's food.

She twitched into a fighting stance when the room started shaking and moving downward.

Nobara burst out laughing.

With a glare, Miu called towards Nobara, "Oh come on! I wasn't expecting it to be an elevator!" she put her hands on her hips as Nobara just smirked. "Don't worry ms. I'm on a hair trigger, We'll protect you!"

Before Miu could protest further, the Elevator opened to a massive tunnel.

It was empty, meaning we were the first ones here.

A man who looked like a green bean in a suit approached and handed each of us a token.

Miu got number 1, Nobara took number 2, and I got number 3.

I suppose we've got a long wait ahead of us.

We decided to do some Nen exercises until someone else showed up.

Nobara POV
"Hey, look!" I nudged Miu, pointing towards the tunnel entrance where a man and a girl were approaching our little group. "It's a Blue-haired waifu and…some dude."

Zack, with the oversized coffin strapped to his back, which resembled something straight out of a gothic horror movie- why the hell did he ask for something so chuuni?-, glanced up with a flicker of surprise.

Miu, beside him, tilted her head, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Why does everyone look so surprised?" she asked, confusion in her voice.

"It's because..." I began, my gaze fixed on the approaching girl, my finger pointing accusingly like a seasoned detective, "...she's from an anime I watched. A world filled with suffering despite its bright exterior!"

The girl, Rem, stopped in her tracks, her brow furrowing slightly.

She kept her composure, though, her eyes scanning us with a quiet intensity, probably trying to figure out what the hell I was talking about. "An anime?" she echoed, her voice laced with curiosity. "What do you mean?"

"Re:Zero," I stated simply, enjoying the look of bewilderment on her face. "A story about a half-elf girl named Emilia and her journey to become the ruler of Lugunica. And you," I added, pointing at Rem with a flourish, "are one of her maids, a demon with incredible power and a tragic past AND SOMEHOW NOT TRAGIC FUTURE!"

Rem's eyes widened in surprise, but before she could respond, I continued my exposition. "There's also this guy named Subaru, a tracksuit-wearing loser who keeps dying and coming back to life, trying to save Emilia from all sorts of dangers."

Rem snorted, a hint of disdain creeping into her voice. "This Subaru person sounds like a discount, trash version of Tereda," she remarked, glancing at her companion with a smirk.

The dude, Tereda, chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I'll take that as a compliment," he said, winking at Rem.

"Wait," I interjected, my voice laced with incredulity, "do you mean you've never met a loser in a tracksuit who's all upbeat and shit and seemingly solves problems by pulling knowledge out of his ass?!"

Rem shook her head, her expression a mix of confusion and amusement.

"Well," Tereda spoke up, a thoughtful look on his face, "in my first loop, I kinda accidentally knocked a guy in a modern tracksuit into the way of an oncoming carriage, but when I went back in time, he was gone. Poof! Vanished into thin air."

My jaw dropped, my mind struggling to comprehend the implications of his words. "Whoa, time travel? That's some next-level shit!"

"Indeed," Tereda agreed with a sly grin.

He turned towards our group, extending a hand towards Zack. "I'm Tereda Chouju," he said, his voice casual but carrying an air of authority. "Don't bother with honorifics or switching the order of my name. Just call me Tereda."

"And I'm Rem," the blue-haired girl added, her voice laced with a subtle aloofness. "But you already knew that because you watched an 'anime,' did I pronounce that right?"

"You did," Zack confirmed, shaking Tereda's hand with a polite nod. "The name's Zack Hammers. Don't forget it because-" He trailed off, a flicker of confusion crossing his face. "Huh, I just lost my train of thought. Carry on."

I couldn't help but laugh at his sudden forgetfulness. "Classic Zack," I muttered under my breath.

With a dramatic flourish, I activated my Slime Suit, transforming into a dazzling black battle dress, complete with sharp gauntlets and stylish boots. "Magical sorceress, Jujutsu Nobara Kugisaki at your service! The only real magical girl here!" I declared, striking a series of heroic poses.

Miu, her eyes sparkling with amusement, simply smiled and said, "Miu Furinji."

I glanced around, noticing that the tunnel entrance was starting to fill up with examinees. At least three hundred people were already gathered, their expressions a mix of anticipation and nervousness. My eyes fell on a familiar figure lurking near the back of the crowd – Tonpa, the infamous "Rookie Crusher," his trademark grin hiding a malicious intent.

"Oh hell no," I muttered under my breath, my eyes narrowing as I spotted him offering a drink to a wide-eyed newcomer.

Before I could fully process the situation and destroy a bitch, Tereda was already moving.

He snatched one of Tonpa's infamous laxative-laced drinks from his bag, uncapped it, and with a casual "Bottoms up," shoved it into Tonpa's mouth.

A panicked look spread across Tonpa's face, and he sputtered, choking on the vile concoction.

He glared at Tereda, sputtering curses under his breath, then bolted for the elevator, clutching his stomach.

To my surprise, the hall erupted in cheers and applause.

The examinees, who had witnessed Tereda's impromptu act of justice against Tonpa, seemed to approve of his unorthodox methods.

one

I stared at Tereda, my brow furrowed in confusion.

The hall erupted in cheers and applause as Tereda casually strolled back towards us, a smug smirk playing on his lips. I couldn't help but grin; the guy had a knack for causing a scene.

A few examinees, emboldened by Tereda's actions, approached him with a mix of curiosity, admiration and a few lust-filled looks.

A burly man with a thick beard offered a hearty handshake. "That was some move back there," he said, his voice gruff with approval. "Tonpa's been needing a taste of his own medicine for a while now."

Tereda accepted the compliment with a reserved smile. "Just doing my part to ensure a fair competition," he replied, sounding like some kind of noble knight or something.

As the man moved on, a woman with fiery red hair sashayed towards Tereda, her hips swaying with a confidence that screamed 'trouble.' She wore a skin-tight outfit that left little to the imagination, and her eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint.

"Well, well," she purred, leaning in close enough that even I could smell her overpowering perfume. "That was quite the impressive display of strength, Sir Tereda. I wouldn't mind seeing more of your... techniques."

My eyes narrowed. This chick was seriously hitting on Tereda right in front of Rem?

That's some real horribly bad timing and absolute rudeness.

Before Tereda could even respond, his look of disdain clear, the air around us turned icy cold.

Rem materialized beside him, her usually gentle blue eyes now narrowed into slits, her aura radiating a palpable wave of hostility.

The red-haired woman stumbled back, her face paling as if she had seen a ghost. She didn't say a word, just turned and fled back into the crowd, disappearing as quickly as she had appeared.

"Serves her right," Rem muttered, her voice laced with possessiveness. "But you are mine, Tereda, and I won't let anyone take you away from me."

"And you are mine, Rem, and no red headed bimbo is going to take me away from you." Tereda said, like- holy crap, that's some ridiculously romantic heartthrob stuff. Wow. I was so stunned by the romance that I missed what he said next, but it seemed to make Rem melt.

I shrugged, turned away, and whistled a tune.

They embraced, their moment of tenderness a stark contrast to the chaotic energy buzzing around them.

Honestly, it was super sweet.

The applause from the Tonpa incident died down, and I glanced around, surprised to see that the number of examinees had swelled significantly.

There were now over seven hundred people crammed into the tunnel entrance, way more than I had remembered from the anime.

"Huh," I muttered to myself, "guess things are a bit different in this reality."

Just as I was contemplating the discrepancies, a tall, lean man with a stoic expression and a meticulously styled white side-parted haircut emerged from the darkened tunnel.

He was dressed in a simple violet suit, and his aura radiated an air of quiet authority.

"Welcome, applicants," he announced, his voice deep and resonant, carrying effortlessly through the hall. "I am Satotz, your examiner for the first phase of the Hunter Exam."

He paused, his gaze sweeping over the assembled crowd. "The first test is simple," he continued. "Follow me."

With that, he turned and walked back into the darkness, his long strides setting a brisk pace.

The examinees scrambled after him, a chaotic mass of bodies jostling for position, eager to prove their worth and begin their journey towards becoming Hunters.

We easily kept pace with him, our enhanced bodies and Nen awareness making the trek through the underground tunnel a breeze.

I noticed Zack, Miu, and the other red-suited Tojo guy from the ship who I forgot the name of chatting with a spiky-haired kid who was radiating protagonist energy- obviously Gon.

The blonde with the blue tabard from the ship was also there, along with a guy in a ridiculously loud tie-dye suit who seemed to be part of the same group. Did I meet him?

Interesting.

Looks like our little team just got a bit bigger.

I frowned, briefly wondering if the addition of the Tojo clan had changed the world this much- then what else was changed.

But then I shrugged it off.

This was reality now, not some fictional story.

It didn't matter what changes had occurred; we would adapt, we would overcome.

After all, we were Jumpers, weren't we?

This world was our playground for the next 10 years.

Zack POV

My legs pumped, my enhanced body effortlessly keeping pace with Gon as we navigated the winding path through the tunnels.

The air increased in humidity as we approached the exit at the top of the stairs.

Miu and Nobara had surged ahead earlier, Nobara's curiosity piqued by the presence of some people who never showed up in the anime and Miu being dragged along.

Nobara was eager to assess the competition and potentially get a glimpse of a real life anime world.

Killua, after a brief conversation with Gon, had vanished into the shadows, his movements as silent and swift as a phantom.

Suddenly, Killua reappeared, his skateboard gliding effortlessly beside me. A confused but hopeful expression flickered across his face as he pointed towards Tereda, who was effortlessly keeping pace with us, his strides long and his posture relaxed.

"Hey," Killua asked, his voice laced with a hesitant curiosity, "who's that guy?"

"That's Tereda," I replied, keeping my voice low and my gaze fixed on the path ahead. "He and Rem are from Meteor City too. They decided to try for the Hunter Exam this year."

Killua's brow furrowed, a skeptical glint in his eyes. "Meteor City?" he echoed, his voice tinged with disbelief.

"But how they hell did they got out of that cordoned off hellhole?! Wait! You guys are from there too?!"

I shrugged, forcing a nonchalant smile. "Meteor City and its inhabitants don't exactly follow the rules, Killua. They have their ways of getting things done."

Killua seemed to accept my explanation, but his gaze lingered on Tereda, a mix of curiosity and apprehension in his eyes.

"He's strong," I added, my voice dropping to a near whisper. "Really strong. I might be able to beat him, but it would be a tough fight. We'd also probably level a few city blocks in the process."

Killua's eyes widened, his jaw dropping slightly as he absorbed the implications of my words.

He nodded slowly, his expression in a tight frown that expressed a mixture of awe and bewilderment.

Without another word, he pushed off on his skateboard, gliding towards Gon, who was engaged in a lively conversation with Kurapika.

I watched him go, a smirk playing on my lips. Killua's curiosity had been piqued, a new mystery to unravel for him.

Maybe I'd unlock his Nen at some point along with his other two friends.

I moved my eyes to a black haired girl in a frilly black dress.

She kinda looked like a 12 year old female Majima.

She seemed to be talking animatedly with Killua and Gon.

I shrugged.

None of my business.

Final announccement(Read the other story!)(sorry!)
To everyone who has been following the adventures of Zack, Miu, and Nobara, I want to apologize for the extended hiatus this story will be taking.

It pains me to say this, but I don't foresee myself continuing this fanfiction for a long time, and perhaps ever.

The truth is, I've grown attached to these characters and the world they inhabit.

I genuinely enjoy writing their story and exploring the possibilities of the Hunter X Hunter universe and beyond.

However, I also have other writing projects and responsibilities that demand my attention, and I can't give this story the dedication it deserves right now.

Rather than leaving it hanging indefinitely, I wanted to offer a glimmer of hope for you guys.

If you're curious about the future of these characters, you can find them as side characters in my other fanfiction, "How to Survive the Multiverse by Dying Multiple Times Every Day!" Their journey continues in that story, albeit in a different context and with a different focus.

I know this isn't the news you were hoping for, and I apologize for any disappointment it might cause.

I appreciate your understanding and support for my work.

Perhaps, someday in the future, I'll find the time and inspiration to return to this story.

Until then, I hope you'll continue to enjoy the adventures of Zack, Miu, and Nobara in their new roles as the cool mysterious side-characters that outpower Rem and Tereda- At least for now.

Thank you for reading.
