Princess Quest (Exalted)

If the kingdom doesn't need it, then banning slavery help to prevent slavers from selling your people out. And that's one less concern of an uprising source and reason.

Thats only with our modern views on slavery. It's not like everyone in the real world before 1700 was magically dickish.
Plenty of European goverments illegalized slavery before 1700, England for an example(Britain first illegalized slavery throughout the entirety of the empire in late 20th century though).
For a nation not engaging in conquest, colonization or raiding there are economic and social reasons for the abolition of slavery. Slaves not necessarily having been lawfully enslaved, supporting the slave trade leading to raiding for slaves and a collapse of social order, management inefficiencies, communal land ownership (which is how it worked in most of the world) meaning that people aren't working your land anyway meant that slavery (outside of house or gate slaves) was generally the province of europeans, north Africans, middle easterners and whoever they payed to give them slaves. Creation having a massive slave trade is mostly a consequence of the writers trying to make things grimdark while not understanding slavery and fucking elf scum who should all be genocided once we exalt.

I don't care that it's impossible, the exalted killed the titans they can kill faeries no matter how numerous.

Well, you can ask him yourself...

Kali doesn't really have a problem with it though. She might be peturbed if she hears about how much the slaves suffer, but mostly it's something that just happens to people elsewhere. Unless she sees it up close, there won't be any mechanical repercussions and she could probably rationalise it if you want her to do so.

I'd rather we be default anti-slavery because the place we're from bans it.

I rather agree with this, in more of a "foreign ways are weird' type of rational. It's not that we have any opinion on slavery, just it's not done where we are so it seems odd to us.

Well, the discussion on slavery is kind of amusing because you haven't seen Xue Mei's interlude yet but what I meant was that you don't really have an opinion on slavery yet. You can decide how to react when Kali comes across it, though she'll be more naturally against it the higher her Compassion is.

EDIT: In case anyone's wondering, update will come after Necromancer Quest's update.

We'll an additional view IC is welcome. Interested how that may shift my perspective.

It basically gives you a source of cheap unkilled labor, mostly. Rome found the whole range of issues, slaves needed rights protection or you constantly have to spend expensive soldier power putting down uprisings. War slaves also mandated a constant state of war to keep up supply.

Basically it's only useful if they have either actual rights, and real ability to earn freedom, or if you had a war machine that needed slaves to man their agriculture and mines to supply material endlessly.

Most non-necromancers have a hard time commanding the dead cheaply, I would agree. Really does drive costs up with maintenance and what not.
