Prepare To Die A Painful Death (A Fantasy Mercenary Quest Where Anyone and Everyone Can Die)

[X] Rolf Steiner
[X]Restore the Light: In the stories, your grandfather told you, there was a great war for the continued survival of mankind, where all the magic in the world was used to seal away the darkness. And it failed. There is no magic left… but you still have steel and resolve to complete what your ancestors couldn't
[X] Gray Wolf Company
[X] A Company of Great Renown: Legends talked about the victories of the great company where heroes were made, lord's sons paid handsomely to be a part of, and were among the best armored and armed company in the lands, with gold to boot. (Easy Economic Difficulty.)

Let's roll. Start big so we can get to the meaty shit early. Not to discount the growth process, but it's nice to be at least somewhat influential early.

Part 2: The Weapons, and State of the World
Part 2

Iaban… is not a place for the faint hearted. When the world died, all civilization died with it. The great empires that sprawled the continent were now in ruin. Their peoples confined to walled cities and towns to protect them from the ever increasing horde of darkness that lay beyond it.

Where every man, woman and child is trained in a weapon, to make a last stand against the darkness, as the only champions of light.

Like all of your fellows, you were trained to wield a weapon of death and destruction.

What Weapon do you wield?:

[]The Spear and Shield: The Weapons of Kings and Peasants alike, a sharpened metal point on the end of a well carved stick, with a wooden shield to protect you from damage from archers and other melee attackers. (Your Spear and Shield Stat are at 100 (The maximum level). You can Learn to Wield a Pike or Lance on Horseback if you train the equestrian skills. You are incapable of using ranged weapons. If on horseback, and/or armored enough, you can disguise yourself as a nobleman, and enter jousting tournaments for the company.)

[]The Sword and Shield: The weapons of a knight on horseback, a man at arms on the ground, or a nobleman who fought on the battlefield. This is the weapon that grants men knighthood, and the weapon where you can lose your head. (Your Sword and Shield Stat are at 100 (The maximum level). You can learn how to wield a greatsword, or Zweihander. You cannot learn how to use a spear. If on horseback, and/or armored enough, you can disguise yourself as a nobleman, and enter melee tournaments for the company.)

[]The Zweihander: The largest combat sword on the continent, standing at over five feet and over 6 pounds of weight, this weapon is a killing machine if it makes contact with armor, or skin. A sign of high society, it's usage is only for the most skilled swordsman, or strongest men. But mastering has taken a lifetime, and with such a large and specialized weapon, you have little time to learn any other. (You start off with a Zweihander stat of 75, and you cannot be trained in any other weapon besides swordsmanship. If Armored enough, you will be considered a nobleman, and can enter melee tournaments for the company)

[]The Bow and Arrow: The Weapon of Hunters and Soldiers alike. They say a well trained archer can hit a fly in the air at twenty yards, but you never believed that story. However, this weapon is feared by all, and respected by all who wield it. (Your Archer Stat are at 100 (The maximum level). You cannot be trained as a crossbowmen. You can join Archery tournaments for the company even if you are not of noble birth.)

[]The Crossbow: The Peasants Weapon. It does not need the decades of training an archer has for his bow, but it requires skill to master. (Your Crossbow Stat is at 100 (The maximum level). You cannot be trained as an Archer. Will not be allowed to participate in tournaments.)

[]A Beastmaster: You are unlike any other man. You fight your battles not with steel but with your companions, two grey wolves you tamed as pups, and your pack of dogs that you raised since you were a child. Most men do not fear soldiers in plate armor. They do fear a back of angry wolves that hunger for human flesh. (Your Beast Handling Stat is at 100 (The maximum level). You cannot be trained as an Equestrian. Any Animal that your company comes across can now be trained by you.)

[]The Alchemist: You are a man of Science, of human rationality... of ingenuity. You can craft potions from ingredients that most men would not even consider... and poisons that can kill anything in one drop. (Your Alchemy Stat is at 100 (The maximum level), with your Dagger Stat set to 50. You can craft potions that can grant Huge buffs to your company, and you can also coat your companies weapons in poison that can kill almost anything, if you have the ingredients for it.

Unfortunately, the State of the world is still in ruin since the collapse, and the loss of magic. But what State is it truely in, according to the stories from Travelers:

[]The World Rebuilds: The World is still shaken by the collapse, but Merdia, and her dark forces are so weak from the sudden forceful lose of magic, that they retreated from our world. Not banished, but for a time, there is peace, and the ability to rebuild from such devastation, and prepare to fight back. (East World Difficulty, For those that want to fight easy battles, more against nature, and bandits, than the forces of Darkness.)

[]The Noble Houses Prepare for War: Even after all Mankind has been through, men with power will always order other men to fight and die for them. Their Lands, with Soldiers being mustered, are now awash with chaos, as bandits and rebellious lord's raid the countryside. There is gold to be had here, Gold and death. (Normal Difficulty. The Nobles Prepare for bloody battle, where you can be the decider of the fate of the Schwarlands)

[]Greenskins attack from the North!: Hydroporia was once a prosperous land, now overrun by the greenskins. Refugees from the north tell tales of barbarity, and savagery, where children are eaten and cooked alive, where women are torn apart, and men are nothing more than gladiators fighting for survival, every day. And they are marching south. (Hard Difficulty: The Greenskin Horde is marching south. Numerous, and inhumanly Strong, they are capable of smashing all in their way, if they are not prepared. Save mankind, and destroy the greenskins forever.)

[]The Darkness Grips the World: Merdia has won. The Darkness has consumed the world, and her damned followers travel the countryside, converting or murdering all who would do not follow her murderous orders. Magic is gone, and the world has died. The world has died, and any man who do not follow Merdia shall be beset upon by misfortune and death. Inhuman monsters roam the world, and all of mankind are just cattle for her demons to feed. Any man who leaves is considered a madman. But not you, not while you draw Breath. b(Insanity Difficulty: "You can save the world, but how much are you willing to sacrifice to do it?")

AN: Vote in Plan Format Please. Enjoy.

Plan form.

This is inspired by Berzerk. Don't let down Guts. Zweihander is the way.

Yeah, edited the plan and i dont know what berzerk is so meh...
Berzerk... the Dark Fantasy Manga, where everything goes to shit in about half a century worth of chapters and refuses to get better because the Author goes on hiatus for years at a time.

The real brutality is the wait. By god the wait for new chapters.... and having to slog through shitty anime adaptations that should not have been made. Except the first one... the first one is godly.

[X]Plan Hard Mode

This would be interesting. As a playstyle, I mean. Dark souls as a beastmaster only, that would be either the most boring game, or the oddest pokemon anime meets dark souls video game style.

So for the weapon, Zweihander is obviously the correct choice. But what worldstate? I'm leaning towards "Greenskins attack from the North!" I've no urge to submit myself to Insanity mode. There's difficulty and then there's a bit too much. However, it has the fact that Guts would want it that way going for it. Greenskins is a looming and immense societal threat without being too intense, in my opinion, so I'll either vote for or create a plan with Zweihander and Greenskins.

...Wait a minute. A person who fights mostly with monster companions who's joined up with a powerful group of fighters in a demon-infested world. I feel like I'Ve heard this before.

Ohhhh, yeah, it's been done. But I don't see that as the same thing. We might be thinking about one of those eastern novels. Where the protagonist is a nationalist that goes crazy harem protag on the quest to power. Or that harem protag in a cultivator world with only beautiful summons and plot armor all around. Or that one smut novel with monstergirls in a harem with a messed up male protagonist in a creepy pokegirl/monstergirl world.

Here, I see the game as "Actually death is possible. You get one life, and this will either be a trip, or the greatest story told in one turn."

You think I'm joking when I say say prepare to die a painful death, and anyone and everyone can die?

Cause I'm not.

You just got started, I've been a berserk fan since I watched the original anime as a kid almost 20 years ago, tortures of waiting months then years between updates. Some parents should really check shows before renting them from blockbusters for their kid

So I've heard. But hopefully I don't leave for a year between updates. Maybe a few weeks, but not years.

I think you are serious. I am playing as if the 'promise' is a reality.

Okay, how many jp harem protag Isekai stories have you read, or watched anime for? And if you have read at least one eastern cultivation story, or made progress on one of them? Wuxiaworld is a okay site to check up on what I mean by eastern novel, they like to okay things with the original writer to ensure they can translate the novels.

The one thing that is incredibly annoying, is the chinese cultivator novels do extremely wonderful world building of a dark world that is threatened. But a story like "Library of Heaven's Path" just shatters everything with the plot armor. All the wonderful threats are dealt with easily, the romance is subpar, and the side characters don't see the spotlight.

I am expecting character, world building, but most importantly. I'm expecting the world to be threatening and not have 'insta power up for the plot' to occur. If you want to survive, trust, verify, and resources are key.

What was the winning resources vote? I think it was plenty of money, but considering our goals... The money will empty out fast.

Enough for me to hate most of them, and really enjoy the good ones.

Don't really like the site. Too much Harem and not enough actual stories that are enjoyable.

I don't do bullshit. And inta power ups without any sort of setup is bullshit.

We are part of a great company, money and armor is not going to be an issue.

[X] Plan: Light of Insanity!

Thanks for the vote! Shame that it was the only one…

Still wish that we had went with founding our own company though…

As for my vote? Well, here it is;

[X] A Beastmaster: You are unlike any other man. The world has died, and any man who do not follow Merdia shall be beset upon by misfortune and death. Inhuman monsters roam the world, and all of mankind are just cattle for her demons to feed. Any man who leaves is considered a madman. But not you, not while you draw Breath. (Insanity Difficulty: "You can save the world, but how much are you willing to sacrifice to do it?")

The Beast-master vote will give us good support from the natural world, while the Insanity Difficulty will provide a proper challenge, unlike the fact that the rest of you wimps wanted us coddled in terms of the financial/armour part of this whole endeavour!

But not you, @Ghostdevil, you understand what a true test is!
