When demon kings roam the earth once more, a decision is made: to recruit five teenagers with DESTINY and see this evil vanquished before the Earth is destroyed!

Go Go, Sidereal Rangers!
In Which Our Team is Chosen New

Critian Caceorte

Currently Suffering from Space-Time Narcolepsy

In an ancient underground safehold, which was old when the known world was young, there was a large Adamant-glass tube, sizable enough to exceed 3 men in height... and preserve the ancient consciousness within.

There once was a man named Chejop Kejak. He is dead now, and has been for a considerable amount of time. But before his death, an effort was made to preserve his wisdom by storing his memories and personality into a sorcerously-carved crystal. This crystal then was stored in the Adamant case, and only periodically awakened in order to preserve its lifespan AND the personality's stability. Normally, his consciousness would only be awoken every thousand years to observe how the Earth has fared in the meantime, except in cases of emergency.

This, unfortunately, was one of those times.

An alarm blared out throughout the base, with green warning lights signifying the degree of problem present. As the image of the dead Sidereal appeared inside of the glass case, hastily awoken to meet the sudden need, he observed as his robotic assistant scurried back and forth between monitors observing the state of Gaia. All-Lasting Perfectly Harmonious Automaton had been his companion these many eons, yet he had never observed the entity as being so worried until now.

"Harmonious, what is the emergency?" were his first words in centuries.

"Aye-yi-yi! It's awful sir, some of the Infernal Exaltations have escaped!"

Immediately, his thoughts turned to the worst-case scenario. "How many
precisely have escaped?"

"Six of them, sir, we've got enough for a full circle that are now Exalting people!" Not the absolute worst case scenario, which would have been EVERY Infernal Exaltation escaping their prisons, but terrible enough that it required swift action. "What are we going to do?!" the robot fussed some more.

"How many Dragon-Blooded still live on Gaia's surface, Harmonious?" If he could nudge together some of the families into a Wyld Hunt of sorts, and they organized quickly enough, they MIGHT be able to take down the nascent Celestials and perhaps-

"Um, numbers have gone down rapidly over the centuries, sir," his assistant replied. "As is, there's maybe 500 or so still alive?" And with how scattered the families were around the Earth... no, it seemed the least drastic solution wasn't going to work here. They needed more power, and FAST. Which left...

"Harmonious, open the Seal of Stars. It is time that some of my Sidereal brethren roam the earth once more," Kejak commanded.

To the assistant's credit, they didn't question his decision. This certainly qualified as a disaster scenario worthy enough of their second emergency plan. The first of course being the coordination of the existing Dragon-Blooded, and the third being the remote unsealing of the Black Vault (which could also be opened manually at the site, in case communication between himself and the families guarding it became impossible.) As for the second plan's details...

A door opened which Harmonious walked through, revealing 5 boxes and 5 uniforms, each in the color of a Maiden. Inside each box was a Sidereal Exaltation, one for each Caste, to be opened only when dealing with
minor world-ending threats, as oxymoronic as that phrase was. Whoever was found worthy of the Exaltation when it was let loose would be brought to this base, given the details of the situation and an offer of working as a team. Always an offer, not a demand, for the Exalted do not take well to being ordered to give up their personal lives, and he would rather have half a Circle of willing Sidereals under his command than a full Circle of aggrieved individuals. That was the biggest risk of this plan, that he had no true control over what the Exalted individuals could do with their suddenly much longer lives (especially since this Circle of Exaltations had a quirk of only choosing adolescents as their new hosts). Should they accept, then they would be given the corresponding uniform, a bodysuit made of silk and starmetal threads, access to the facility, as well as... well, the less said about that enormous machine, the better.

With the plan enacted, each box was opened, revealing a bright glow which faded as its invisible contents escaped for the first time in eons. They would go to their new hosts in the hopes that they would prove sufficiently heroic enough to stop the Infernal threat. They went out into a World of Darkness, and sought out teenagers with DESTINY in order to become

POWER RANGERS: SIDEREAL FORCE

Starring:

The (Digital) Ghost of Chejop Kejak as Zordon!
The All-Lasting Perfectly Harmonious Automaton as Alpha-5!
And, most importantly of all, five teenagers with attitude DESTINY as our team!

Five teenagers in a US city (though Kejak's base was nowhere near there, this is just a quirk of the Exaltations) will soon be obtaining divine power from the stars and, if they choose to accept it, a mission. A mission to defeat evil, to right the wrongs inflicted on the world and reestablish the proper order of Fate in this forsaken land. That they might have to do so while studying for Tuesday's math exam is just an unfortunate reality of their situation.

For each Sidereal Caste, you will be picking 1 out of 3 character options which will serve as that character's origin. Each origin is intentionally designed to be gender-neutral, not overtly better than the others and align with the Resplendent Destinies of that Caste. For their stats, their best attributes will be in their Focus area, and their worst in their Flaw area, though of course this can be improved over time. They also each have 3 Abilities which they start out much better at, but rest assured, they can advance quickly in ALL of their Caste Abilities, the ones listed for each origin are just what they start out as great in. Finally, each origin has a second Caste's charms which they treat as Favored. All Castes have equal representation in this fashion.

My recommendation here is to focus on the character ideas you want to see here, rather than any mechanics they might have. You are choosing the types of characters and stories you want to see in this tale, picking an archetype you don't like just because they have skills you think are necessary is not a good idea here.

In the next part, we'll get more into the nitty-gritty like whose the team's leader, each member's names, gender, powers, etc, but for now, choose 1 character type per Color. For each color, I will list their Caste Abilities and an explanation so you know what these words mean.

The Chosen of Journeys (Yellow Ranger):
Caste Abilities: Animal Ken (caring and training animals), Athletics (physical fitness), Drive (using vehicles), Empathy (understanding and manipulating emotions), Firearms (guns!), Politics (movers, shakers, and how to do so), Streetwise (street smarts and criminal knowledge), Survival (surviving in less comfortable areas)

The Chosen of Mercury, also known as the Chosen of Journeys, held the responsibility of maintaining the destinies of transportation and those who travel in old Creation. They were the ones who prompted others to either leave their homes, or stick to the familiar if necessary. As the Yellow Ranger, it will likely be their job to organize emergency responses, figure out how to reach their enemies and, if it becomes necessary, pilot the team's secret weapon. If they become the team's leader, then there will be a large focus on threats in other layers of reality and away from home.

[][Yellow] Farmer's Child
  • Focus: Physical
  • Flaw: Mental
  • Skilled Abilities: Animal Ken, Drive, Survival
  • Favored Charms: Serenity
  • On the farm, everyone works, no exceptions. This child has ever since they were little fed the animals, sown the fields and helped in the harvest. Yet the demands of farm life are tough, and sometimes school seems pointless when they KNOW what they'll be doing for the rest of their lives. When they take the Second Breath, what happens to that damn predestination? Will they finally be forced to strive for something greater?
[][Yellow] Military Brat
  • Focus: Mental
  • Flaw: Social
  • Skilled Abilities: Athletics, Firearms, Politics
  • Favored Charms: Battles
  • They've been to 8 different schools in the last 10 years. They've never had a place they could truly call "home," not ever, thanks to their military parent(s). As such, they have little in the way of friends, and it's only their natural genius which has allowed them to survive in the changing school environments. Once they become a Ranger, will their parents need to move the family away from their newfound comrades, or will they stubbornly stay no matter what happens?
[][Yellow] Street Kid
  • Focus: Social
  • Flaw: Physical
  • Skilled Abilities: Empathy, Streetwise, Survival
  • Favored Charms: Secrets
  • They don't go to school, or do those normal teenage things. They've been on the streets, either willingly or unwillingly, for most of their life. Either as an urchin, or as a gang member, the streets are the only home they've known for a while now. Malnutrition has shrunken their frame, but they've developed quite a silver tongue in order to survive as long as they have. Perhaps their Exaltation can fix the former, and enhance the latter.
The Chosen of Serenity (Blue Ranger):
Caste Abilities: Awareness (sensing spirits and the unseen), Crafts (less modern craftsmanship, like carpentry), Empathy (understanding and manipulating emotions), Etiquette (how to be polite to others), Expression (oration, poetry and persuasion), Law (what are the rules?), Leadership (directing and coordinating others), Performance (the arts)

The Chosen of Venus, also known as the Chosen of Serenity, were in charge of Creation's relationships both good and bad. Sometimes Destiny required that two young adults fell in love, and sometimes a long-term business partnership had to fall through for things to prosper. As the Blue Ranger, they will likely be in charge of maintaining the group's bonds even when not chosen as the leader, and will often serve as a "face" for the group's activities to outsiders. If they ARE assigned as the leader, then their efforts will focus on the day-to-day relationships of people in the city.

[][Blue] Pastor's Kid
  • Focus: Social
  • Flaw: Physical
  • Skilled Abilities: Empathy, Etiquette, Law
  • Favored Charms: Journeys
  • As the child of a person of (assumed) morality, the expectation of living up to religious standards falls upon this person hard. Whether they genuinely believe in the same faith as their father, or whether they conceal their true feelings under a squeaky clean image, none can tell. Of course, that same appearance of virtue might come under scrutiny if word of the individual's activities as a Ranger were to be exposed, and they've never been in a fight besides.
[][Blue] Poetry Club President
  • Focus: Mental
  • Flaw: Social
  • Skilled Abilities: Expression, Leadership, Performance
  • Favored Charms: Secrets
  • They found their first love not in people, but in books. The words on a page spoke of countless worlds and characters, and ever since then they have done their best to bring out their own imagination in their work. Not just that, they NEED to show others just how wonderful poetry and literature can be, how amazing it can feel to create your own art! And if this dedication to the craft means that socially they're a bit of a weirdo, whatever. They didn't need other people anyway, and Exaltation has only provided more inspiration, not less.
[][Blue] Indebted
  • Focus: Physical
  • Flaw: Mental
  • Skilled Abilities: Awareness, Crafts, Empathy
  • Favored Charms: Endings
  • It's always risky to owe a debt to someone, and outright dangerous to owe a debt to the wrong people. Guess which one this person has? Whether the one they owe is a drug dealer that got them addicted, a blackmailer that has ALL the dirt on them, or a creature of the night that made them a thrall, they have little to no control of their before Exaltation. Afterwards, getting free will be their number one goal, and hey, those skills they've been working on to get free will help with that. At the very least, they have the tools on hand now to resolve all of their issues, it's just finding which is the right tool for the job.
The Chosen of Battles (Red Ranger):
Caste Abilities: Athletics (physical fitness), Brawl (unarmed combat), Expression (oration, poetry and persuasion), Firearms (guns!), Intimidation (how to be the scariest one in the room), Leadership (directing and coordinating others), Melee (fighting with close-range weapons), Technology (making and repairing modern equipment)

The Chosen of Mars, also known as the Chosen of Battles, were assigned to instigate, resolve and watch over conflict. This included physical confrontations, to political debates, to tense negotiations. As the Red Ranger, they will likely be the rock on which their teammates tie themselves to, protecting the injured and stepping in where the others are weak. As the team leader, they will devote the team's time to martial arts practice and planning for upcoming operations.

[][Red] ROTC Cadet
  • Focus: Mental
  • Flaw: Social
  • Skilled Abilities: Athletics, Firearms, Intimidation
  • Favored Charms: Endings
  • Whether it be because of genuine patriotism, or the need to appeal to their parents, this child is part of their school's youth military program. It's not guaranteed that they're next step in life is joining the armed forces, but they don't want to disappoint their commanding officer, now do they? Because of this, they are well-suited to conflicts and have access to weaponry they otherwise shouldn't have. Yet, what matters more? Their loyalty to their nation, or to their team members?
[][Red] Sports Team Captain
  • Focus: Physical
  • Flaw: Mental
  • Skilled Abilities: Athletics, Brawl, Leadership
  • Favored Charms: Journeys
  • They're the star of the show. Thanks to them, attendance at the school's games has skyrocketed, and there's whispers of them one day going pro. That's a lot of pressure, but luckily for them, there's an easy way to solve it: Be stronger. Faster. Better than their opponents. They're not unused to physical confrontation or commanding others, which will help as a Ranger in fights, but they might not be as reliable off the battlefield.
[][Red] Student Reporter
  • Focus: Social
  • Flaw: Physical
  • Skilled Abilities: Expression, Melee, Technology
  • Favored Charms: Secrets
  • Despite what some say, real reporters don't just uncover dry facts, they find issues in society and highlight them so that they can get FIXED. This individual is experienced in trying to get to the root of the issue so that it doesn't metastasize into something worse. Of course, uncovering the truth can be dangerous, and if someone asks whether they have a tiny camera hidden in their bag, or a knife in their pocket for protection… Well, of course they don't, you silly billy!
The Chosen of Secrets (Green Ranger):
Caste Abilities: Academics (the humanities and liberal arts), Computer (programming and navigation), Investigation (good ol' sleuthing), Larceny (the criminal's tools of the trade), Occult (knowledge of the supernatural), Stealth (remaining hidden), Streetwise (street smarts and criminal knowledge), Subterfuge (pure and simple lying)

The Chosen of Jupiter, also known as the Chosen of Secrets, held the responsibility of safeguarding Creation's most dangerous mysteries. It was their duty to uncover new information, hide away that which was harmful and spread that which was necessary. As the Green Ranger, they will likely be the team's spymaster, and will often conduct solo operations to gather more information on their targets. As the leader, it will be their job to Know the Things the others shouldn't, bearing the onus of any harmful information so that others might not suffer.

[][Green] Class Clown
  • Focus: Social
  • Flaw: Mental
  • Skilled Abilities: Larceny, Stealth, Subterfuge
  • Favored Charms: Serenity
  • Humor can be the best shield at times. Have some flaw about you that you don't like? Make it a joke, and laugh alongside everyone else instead of everyone laughing AT you. This person knows this concept well, and has made such a joke of themselves (and occasionally others) that no one looks deeper at their true self. Whatever that true self may be… they don't like, and want to hide it deep beneath a mask of comedy as much as possible. Luckily for them, Sidereals are well-suited to this.
[][Green] Straight A Student
  • Focus: Mental
  • Flaw: Physical
  • Skilled Abilities: Academics, Computer, Investigation
  • Favored Charms: Battles
  • The perfect candidate for valedictorian and scholarships, this individual has done their utmost best to excel in whatever classwork is given to them. Anything less is impossible, not because it can't happen… but because of the pressure they feel to MAKE it not happen. Underneath their placid exterior is a nervous wreck trying to cram as much information as necessary to solve the current assignment, and throwing them into physical confrontations even as an Exalt might make that stress explode exponentially.
[][Green] Supernatural Relation
  • Focus: Physical
  • Flaw: Social
  • Skilled Abilities: Occult, Streetwise, Subterfuge
  • Favored Charms: Endings
  • This individual is a bit unique compared to their peers due to one reason: The supernatural wasn't a mystery to them before they Exalted, they already knew someone who was a part of it. Whether that be werewolf family members, a vampire girlfriend or the like, this person knows that the supernatural exists (albeit not the full extent of it) and can provide connections to one of those groups for their team. Of course, those same connections could very well turn to bias and conflicts of interest.
The Chosen of Endings (Violet Ranger):
Caste Abilities: Alertness (sensing the material world), Athletics (physical fitness), Brawl (unarmed combat), Firearms (guns!), Finance (money and how to make it), Law (what are the rules?), Medicine (healing the body and soul), Science (mathematics and the sciences)

The Chosen of Saturn, also known as the Chosen of Endings, were assigned the most depressing job of all the Sidereals: Ensuring the proper ends of all things. From seeing a specific lady die from violence, ending a rampant illness, bringing down a corrupt organization, theirs was the executioner's lot. As the Violet Ranger, they will be the one assigned to counteract threats of an undead nature, as well any other threats long past their designated time. As the leader, they have the heavy burden of finishing the job, no matter what it takes and what happens afterwards, so that others can have a brighter tomorrow.

[][Violet] Teen Parent
  • Focus: Physical
  • Flaw: Social
  • Skilled Abilities: Alertness, Athletics, Finance
  • Favored Charms: Serenity
  • Love makes fools of all of us, teenagers even more so. Due to some… irresponsibility on this person's part, they brought a child into the world and now are doing their best to take care of a tiny human being. On the plus side, their parents aren't mad enough to not help them with this effort financially, and they themselves will fight all the fiercer to protect the world their child now lives in. On the negative, well… their school-life balance was already shot, adding Ranger duties on top of that is going to be a source of stress.
[][Violet] Ill Child
  • Focus: Mental
  • Flaw: Physical
  • Skilled Abilities: Firearms, Medicine, Science
  • Favored Charms: Journeys
  • Ever since they were young, this individual has had to deal with a chronic illness which has left them bedridden more often than not. Cancer? An autoimmune disease? A genetic disorder? Who knows! The Doctors can barely understand it themselves. Because of this, they're ability to socialize is low, but they've picked up quite a lot of medical terminology during their stay. And though their newly Exalt physiology does not seem to cure this illness of theirs, it DOES seem to be helping enough for them to slowly rejoin the rest of society.
[][Violet] Essential Worker
  • Focus: Social
  • Flaw: Mental
  • Skilled Abilities: Brawl, Finance, Law
  • Favored Charms: Battles
  • This individual, due to their family's financial straits, is currently working as many hours as they can to support those they love. Because of this, they have little free time, their grades are in the gutter and Ranger duties won't help there. Yet, they already have a source of income, and aren't ashamed of how their retail work has given them just the skills they need to uncover discrepancies and kick ass. Buyer beware, because this kid hasn't got a single fuck in stock left.

The Vote will END on December 13th at 12:00 PM PST. It may end earlier if necessary.
For this vote, do NOT put your votes into a plan. You may perform approval voting for this stage of the quest.

Author's Note: Good lord, what am I doing, I have so many other quests already AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-

Anyway, blame bejammin2000 on SB for this idea, his Power Rangers campaign that I'm a part of is what led to this mess.

For this quest, we'll be using the revised version of Exalted vs. the World of Darkness, since that's what I'm most used to using, and it makes bringing in WoD critters much easier than if I used Essence. If you're wondering whether there will be more things brought in from the Power Rangers side besides the uniforms and basic concept, well... just you wait.

Feel free to vote, there is of course no moratorium for this part.

Preview: What does Kejak KNOW about the WOD? New
Considering all of these backstories assume that the character will be in the same situation post-exaltation, I'm guessing everyone will be Arcane 2, and not have to deal with the usual 'It's a Wonderful Life' style horror of becoming a Sid?

Also, I'm wondering how Ketchup Carjack will react to Mages, since those are basically mortal humans who developed their own third souls.
Yes, Arcane 2.

Pervasive dread would be my bet as he realizes how easily they can fuck up reality, including on sheer accident. At least when the Solars did it there was some kind of intent behind it.

Though to be honest I think he would be more horrified at the Vampires, the damn things are all over the place and they range in thereat level from parasite to 'holy shit break out the Soul Breaker orbs'.
So, I'll reveal more in character later on, but for the most part, since CK only awakens every millennia for the most part, what he knows about a given faction can be quite limited. As I see it:
  • He knows about the Dragon-Blooded the most obviously, since he has methods to track their numbers via magitech.
  • He knows about Vampires the most of the WOD splats: that they exist, that they were all created by an entity known as "the Dark Father", that they have 13 Clans, their weaknesses, general powers and SOME lineages. He does NOT know about the Camarilla, nor the Sabbath, because they are too new. He does NOT know about the existence of Clan Tremere or Giovanni, nor every single bloodline out there (or even most of them).
  • He knows about the Hungry Dead (Kindred of the Easter) quite a bit... But is reluctant to talk about it for reasons he keeps quiet. This may or may not be a bad move on his part.
  • He knows about the origins of the Changing Breeds, the Impergium (which is why he takes a dim view of them), and each of the breeds, but not their specific abilities or tribes. He is very familiar (for reasons) with the Wyld, kind of familiar with the Weaver, and little about the Wyrm. He does NOT know anything about Pentex, the Black Spiral, etc.
  • He knows about the Fae a fair bit... But nothing about Changelings at all. That all happened while he was asleep.
  • Mages to him are just Sorcerers, nothing particularly special. He knows that they have formed factions based on different traditions and methods, but NOTHING about the Technocracy, Ascension War and so on.
  • He's heard a few things about Mummies, but not much (mostly because I know basically nothing about it myself)
So yeah, that covers the general facts.

CC1 Vote Period Warning New
Since the deadline is already coming up and most (read: Not the Yellow Ranger) of the categories have clear winners, I'm going to be shortening the voting period to 8:00 PM PST tonight. So, in about 6 hours from now. I have the next update for the most part ready to be posted once that deadline is reached. In the meantime, if there IS a change in votes, well at least I won't have to rewrite very much for it. :p

CC1 Vote Period Ends New
Alright, we have our results... kind of. We have a Tie for the Yellow Ranger (Street Kid and Military Brat), so I'm going to use my QM authority to choose the winner. We have 3 Physicals and 1 Mental focused character already, so I'm picking Street Kid to get a social specialist on the squad.

So, for our ranger team, we have:

Yellow Ranger - Street Kid (Social+, Physical-)
Blue Ranger - Poetry Club President (Mental+, Social -)
Red Ranger - Sports Team Captain (Physical+, Mental-)
Green Ranger - Supernatural Relation (Physical+, Social-)
Violet Ranger - Teen Parent (Physical+, Social-)

I'll post the next update within the hour since it's not very long on my end, but first, I need to do some rolls. Admittedly, I've already rolled for this mysterious thing, but not in thread, so I figured that doing so here would be more honest. If it's bad enough, I'll just replace it with what I have already. You'll see in Update 3 what these are for.
Scheduled vote count started by Critian Caceorte on Dec 8, 2024 at 1:34 AM, finished with 33 posts and 11 votes.

EDIT: Welp, guess I'm going with these then, because they're definitely on average better than what I had already.

It was a quirk of these particular Exaltations to choose younger hosts and in as close of an area as possible. The reason for the first was unknown, but likely originated all the way in the Divine Revolution, as the ancients slaughtered waves upon waves of soldiers led by Exalted officers. In those days, the able-bodied adults were the first to fall, and eventually even those still growing had to be brought in to fight the titans. The second had a more clear point of origin: When an interaction of this Circle fell all at once after a disastrous infiltration of Malfeas. Ever since that point, those they Exalted tended to die together… and be uplifted together as well.

Regardless, the preference for a singular location meant that these five pieces of divine power traveled to one city in particular, surveying its youth for hosts. And this particular city happened to be-

[][City] Seattle, Washington
  • Seattle is a battleground city for the supernatural, being the home of many a Kindred (particularly those of Clan Toreador) and Garou, as well as the western branch location for Pentex. The Technocracy meanwhile maintain their hold over all of the tech companies staying in and around the city, with a division of Boeing secretly sequestered away for Void Engineer purposes. With so many supernaturals present and plenty of fuel for tensions, it's no wonder that some consider the Emerald City to be a lit match away from exploding.
[][City] Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Salt Lake City is a religious stronghold, filled with a much higher degree of True Faith than most other cities save the truly spectacular like Jerusalem, Mecca or Lumbini. Still, vampires are present even here, though only of Clans Tremere and Nosferatu. The former reside in this location in order to profit off of the genealogical work being done by the Mormons, while the latter… well, nobody knows why. There also exists a group of sorcerers at this locale who believe their magic to be the miracles of God, but they are soon to be destroyed by the arrival of something terrible if nothing is done to prevent their destruction.
[][City] Dansborough, Indiana
  • You have never heard of Dansborough, Indiana. Most people, in fact, have never heard of Dansborough, Indiana, and its residents prefer it that way. Dansborough, Indiana, is a perfectly fine small town in the middle of Nnowhere where ordinary American things happen, just like it should be. There is no magic in the town of Dansborough, Indiana, and to believe in such is just rubbish. There are certainly, undoubtedly, no such things as Faeries and Wizards in Dansborough, Indiana.
[][City] Seraphim Glade, Florida
  • An oil town on Florida's west coast, Seraphim Glade would otherwise be an unremarkable place to go. Known mostly for its university and local flavor of sarsaparilla, Seraphim Glade has seen some interesting changes in the last few years. Some reports talk of strange military movements in the region, not recognizable as any US army detachment. Others claim to have seen monsters of the strangest types in the abandoned quarry south of town… but with no corroborating evidence of such. What could possibly be the cause of all of these reports?
[][City] Charleston, Maine
  • No, not the city in South Carolina. Up in the northeastern coast of Maine, there is a small town whose only major source of income is its port which receives the occasional cargo ship from Canada or Greenland. It's a pretty nice place to retire or raise your kids in… well, if you discount the whispers of fishpeople among the homeless. Of course, such rumors are nonsense, but the rumors persist. And, some say, that for a town that receives so few imports of goods, it still manages to make quite a lot of money each year, though nobody's really sure as to why.

In this city, the Exaltations searched high and low for those who would best suit their role as Agents of Destiny. Whoever they chose had to not only fit their purview, they had to be individuals with great destinies ahead of them. Destinies which, sadly, would serve as fuel for the Exaltation process, for the Sidereals make their own fate. Anything grand these individuals would have gotten up to in the future, they could now only rely on their own divine strength to accomplish.

Unexpectedly, or perhaps to be expected from a certain point of view, it was the blue piece of power which found a worthy host first. A mortal poet and literature enthusiast, who did their best to spread their love of the medium despite their middling talent in socialization. For a fragment of a deity over the arts, who better a choice for it to merge with? And this person in particular was-

Next was the green piece of power, which found its home in a person stuck in two worlds. This individual was not blinded by the veils guarding the supernatural, having known of its existence for several years now. Their unique insight into the world, having eyes gazing at both the mundane and the magical, was exactly the viewpoint needed to dig deeper into the greater mysteries. This person was-

After that came the red piece, which after only a short delay made its decision. Its target was both an athlete and a captain, a peacetime incarnation of physical contests between physique-equipped groups. Their talent in the realm of sports was excellent for a mortal, and would only become more so with divine power at their fingertips. This person had got to be-

The last two Exaltations on the other hand spent a considerable amount of time deliberating on who they would choose. Not because of poor prospects, but rather the opposite: So many individuals met their requirements that choosing who should be honored was quite an ordeal. Still, it was the violet piece of power that made its decision first, floating down to a young parent cradling their child in their arms. This person had their child at a fairly young age, and though they could take care of the babe without fear for resources, it still devoured a great deal of their time. Only time would prove whether this blessing from Heaven would help them protect the REAL blessing in their lives. This parent was-

-[] Who is the baby's other parent, and are they in the picture? If not, why?

It took so many more picoseconds for the yellow piece of power to make its decision. It waffled, as much as an Exaltation can do so, over its three best prospects for quite a while. Eventually though, a decision had to be made, and it went with the option it just barely preferred over the other two: A homeless child. Never knowing a true place of rest, this person would need the love and support of their Circle in order to truly prosper, yet their own experiences, so different from the others, would help them find their niche in the days to come. This lucky child was-

-[] What is their "street name," and how did they earn it?

With the choices having been made, the Exaltations waited inside of their hosts, counting down the days until the true depths of their power could be unleashed. Until then, life… was about to get just a tad strange for all of them.

The Vote will end on December 16th, 4:00 PM PST. It may end earlier if necessary.
Please vote by plan for this update. It'll probably be easier on everyone else.

Author's Note: Initially, I was going to include an option in the vote for whether Power Rangers (or a WoD equivalent) exists here, but I think ultimately its a bit too meta for my tastes, so it was scrapped.

For each character's bio, while I would prefer individual answers in order to let people pick and choose, I also recognize that it might be easier for some people to come up with plans, and then have the rest of the thread just use those instead of doing lots of quotes. Hence why I'm allowing plan voting for this section.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the first vote, and I hope you stick around for what's to come!

Power Rangers Character Sheets (WIP) New
Author's Note: I'll remove this part once character creation is finished. It's just to let you know that these five sheets are FAR from finished, I'm just putting them here to get thing's started.

CC2 Vote Period Ends New
Alright, closing the vote now. @DragonParadox 's plan is the winner, and we'll proceed from there in Seattle! I do have the next update written up, but first, another mystery roll. Like the one I did for the previous vote announcement, this is actually a hidden roll I did off-thread, but in order to be fair I'll do it again here. If it's too bad, I'll use my original roll instead. As for that first roll, well, you're going to be seeing it here.
Scheduled vote count started by Critian Caceorte on Dec 11, 2024 at 11:18 PM, finished with 25 posts and 11 votes.

  • [X] Go Go Power Exalts
    -[X][City] Seattle, Washington
    -[X] Blue Seth Anderson
    -[X] Male
-[X] Seth was born to a family in decline, once they might have been considered part of the city's old money, but now they are rather more 'old' than 'money', his father obsessed with the kind of get rich quick schemes that were amusing when Seth was a wide eyed kid and just worrying now. His mother meanwhile encourages him to get a good education in law like his paternal grandfather (deceased) and vaguely tolerates his interest in poetry as 'a good hobby to attract the right sort'
-[X] High powered civil rights lawyer, even in the World of Darkness some people try to use the law to protect others
-[X] H. G. Lovelace: Yes, he is aware of the racism, yes and the sexism, yes he still likes it, cosmic horror is cool, not to mention he has a certain affinity to the young Lovelace who was born under similar circumstances of faded fortunes as himself
    [X][Green] Jiu Lee
    -[X] Female
-[X] The daughter of first generation Korean immigrants Jiu has always felt trapped between two worlds, though she sometimes jokes about parental expectations in truth she struggles more with a pervasive feeling that the world is fake, a facade over some hidden rot, that every smiling face hides some dark secret or unspoken shame. When her best friend Sofia vanished two years ago people just seemed to forget about her with terrifying speed, they told Jiu 'don't bring up bad memories', 'they are just processing', but it didn't look to her like they were processing at all... it looked like they were scared.
-[X] Supernatural detective, though she would not have lived long in this line of work it would have been long enough to unveil some trully terrifying secrets of the Powers that Be, vampiric and otherwise
-[X] Sofia Rossellini wasn't dead... well she was, but she wasn't gone, she was a vampire now or Kindred, she had been selected to serve the patron of her family in a more 'exalted' position, that's right patron. Her family have vampire blood in them, something called 'revenants' of 'Clan Giovanni'. You would think awakening to phenomenal cosamic power and a supernatural mentor in a crystal would come with answers, but he doesn't know what any of those names mean either. Fine, fine, she'll find the truth herself.
    [X][Red] Alex Green
    -[X] Male
-[X] The son of blue collar parents who love both him and his siblings dearely but have little time to spend with their family due to late hours and heavy debts Alex is outgoing with teens his own age, but shy in any sort of official setting like class
    -[X] Olimpic Fencer
    -[X] Feencing
    [X][Violet] Amanda Hawkins
    -[X] Female
-[X] Adopted at a young age her parents never hid the fact from her, though she has never felt less loved for it she does wonder who her birth parents are
-[X] A brilliant career in medicine crowned with the cloneing of the first artificial organs
-[X] Amanda was not, as people insisted over and over again, the kind of person one would expect to be a teenage mother. A band kid with few friends and not a whsiper of a boyfriend until last year she fell hard for the captain of the fencing team and for a while things seemed to go swimingly. Until things went a little too well... Her decision to keep the baby was that ended the relationship as her boyfriend told her in no uncertain terms that he wasn't ready to be a father and she certainly wasn't ready to be a mother. Privately Amanda worried that she might be right, though at least her parents support her
    [X][Yellow] Tommy
    -[X] Non-Binary
-[X] Tommy vaguely remebers their parents getting shot, or what might have been their parents, there was a lot of blood. Being dropped into the foster-care system at four years old taught them what people expected to hear and so they said the words over and over, different for each person. They got called a liar... then a theif... then they just decided it was better to leave than stick around for 'the consequences' which invariably had more to do with their foster parents issues than anything they had done
-[X] Crime Boss, turns out when you are good with people and just a little lucky you can go quite far
-[X] Slick, when she stummbled into the middle of a drug deal (or really the drug deal stumbled over his corner of abandoned tunnels) he managed to convince the very twitchy gang members to not just refrain from shooting them but to pass them a 100 dollar bill from their newly exchanged rolls of money
    [X] Plan: Dansborough Irregulars
    -[X][City] Dansborough, Indiana
    -[X][Blue] Daphne Jones
    --[X] Female
--[X] Daphne wants to be a writer, more than that she wants to inspire others to write, seeing it as the ultimate expression of self and one of the best forms of creation.
--[X] She would go on to write a Pretty Decent Book of poetry that would be sold to schools all over the country. It wouldn't be the outreach she would've wanted to have but she's glad that at the very least her works are reaching students.
--[X] J.T. Smith: the Author of her favorite set of books as a child the Records of Nostella, even if in hindsight the Lion Jesus was a bit out there.
    -[X][Green] Antony Smith
    --[X] Male
--[X] Antony grew up in a pretty normal household by his own standards, a hard working dad who tries his best to be there a strict mom who pushes him to be the best he can be and a Little Brother who he cherishes despite being a brat. Despite that, or maybe even because of it Antony has always had this...sensation for the weird and wild, Something that has been compared to his Uncle's own eye for it.
--[X] He would've been a well known Environmental Chemist, at least in the circles that are known to saving the Environment with his eye for oddness and his ways to try and help restore equilibrium. He would do this as an Extraordinary Citizen.
--[X] Antony has an Uncle who one would call a respectable Engineer with Big dreams and bigger expectations of how technology should work. He's supposedly working with the government to help advance the space race and humanity's reach into the stars. In reality and only know to Antony, His Uncle Nick is a Mage or as he prefers to be called an Enlightened Scientist. One of the Void Engineers of the technocracy tasked with shoring up the defenses of Dansborough to prevent VERY hostile and alarmingly alien presence from doing much damage. The only reason Antony even knows half of this, that Nick is an Enlightened Scientist and his job is called Void Engineers, is because his Uncle thinks he would make a good Extraordinary Citizen planning on slowly inducting him into the world of Sorcery whenever he's around.
    -[X][Red] Howard Atlas
--[X] Howard Atlas was an orphan, who was adopted by a loving if a bit absent Mother. Finding that the only way for him to have the attention he wants to have actually Stick with him he had to find something that would well naturally draw people's attention. And he Found it and Enjoyment in being the Star of his school's Soccer Team.
--[X] He would've actually been able to go pro and make it to the big leagues. Not the best of the best by far, but definitely in better than rest tier, and besides when people would remember him his personality would speak louder than Skills.
    --[X] Soccer
    -[X][Violet] Jenny McAlister
    -[X] Female
-[X] To be honest for most of her life Jenny has just been a face in the crowd, a nobody in a horde of nobodies, sure she had a bit of talent for music but she doubted it would lead anywhere. Up until she met her boyfriend. Markus Kent or just Mark, is without a doubt a believer, someone who is passionate about life and wants to spread this passion to Jenny as well. and he did! maybe a bit too well...leading up to this situation. Well at least he and her parents are helping her out with this.
-[X] Her child would be her muse to write her own songs, feeling emotions that could only be expressed through song at least for her. This would lead to her becoming a musician of prestige.
-[X] Mark Kent, he's there, he's struggling with being a father and his own studies, but he's doing his best to be the man Jenny needs right dad and the Dad the child needs as well.
    -[X][Yellow] Tommy
    --[X] Non-Binary
--[X] Tommy vaguely remebers their parents getting shot, or what might have been their parents, there was a lot of blood. [X][City] Seraphim Glade, Florida

EDIT: Yup, using this die roll as well. The other one I did was far more extreme on both ends, and having an average here is for the best.

Back inside of his base of residence, the being once known as Chejop Kejak analyzed the results as they came in. While the newfound hosts of course had yet to come into their power and would not yet for days or weeks, his systems were still able to track the location of the newly released Exaltations and thus who they chose to bond with. And the results from what he saw…

Well, best to start with from the top, here.

CK initial attitude towards Red Ranger (d10): 9, Preferential Candidate

While the traditional Sidereal was known for their skill at fighting with fists and feet alone, a swordmaster, young as he was, was certainly a good prospect. After all, several of the concepts from fencing could easily be adapted to martial arts, and the Chosen of Battles were already inclined to weaponry in the first place. Not to mention Mr. Green's experience serving as the leader of a team of sword wielders could serve him well leading the team into battle should he be given that position. Depending on how often he served as a tutor for his squadron, he might be able to instruct the other rangers in the art of the blade. It might even be possible, though something that Kejak would advise against personally, to recruit the rest of the team to the fight against the darkness.

Overall, a nearly perfect candidate for Mars' Chosen, with only the young man's, well,
youth serving as a downside, and that was easily remedied with experience. If he had to choose a team leader from the outset, few were as good in his eyes as this boy.

(At this time, the former Sidereal had no knowledge of Mr. Green and Ms. Hawkins relationship, due to their efforts to remain apart. If he did, his opinion might have changed, not because the young man wasn't talented, but that putting him in charge of his estranged lover might cause intergroup conflict.)

Next, the Violet Ranger.

CK initial attitude towards Violet Ranger (d10): 8, Great Choice

Some might say that Ms. Hawkins being a young mother without the father being present would have impacted her prospects in the ancient's eyes. And were she without family, that might be a good point. As it was, the largest issue with her child was in the babe's future. While not Star-Blessed, he was still the child of a Sidereal, and thus likely doomed to forget his parent's face and name, which could be… traumatic for such children. Often damning them to a life of wandering, investigations, drug use or any combination of the 3.

Yet, the child would still have caretakers in the form of his grandparents, so that was one problem solved. And with it, the benefits that Ms. Hawkins brought to the table became more visible. For instance, though a new mother she was in excellent physical shape with sharp senses. So sharp, in fact, that though mortal at this moment when he observed her through the computer's sensors, she seemed to catch on that she was being observed with a reflex to look around. Quite impressive, though with how tied the sensors were to her Exaltation, might not be as powerful with other forms of divination. Still, he could be wrong in that regard.

And that wasn't even taking into account a mother's instinct to protect her children. While it might lead her to decline the Ranger title to exclusively protect her son, it could go in the opposite direction and give her the motivation to take up this mission. And he was willing to bet that the latter might be more likely.

After that, the Yellow Ranger.

CK initial attitude towards Yellow Ranger (d10): 6, Not Bad

While not his ideal candidate, Kejak could still see some upsides in Tommy's future Exaltation. Having strong connections to the underworld could give the team the contacts they needed to dig up some information on their enemies, or at least acquire certain items more easily. And the child's lack of connections was actually a benefit for a Sidereal, as they inevitably lost most of those anyway. Much less pain in the future when relatives would typically forget they exist.

Yet, it was those same criminal ties that could prove a problem if the child wasn't recruited. A ronin Sidereal was perfectly fine so long as they did not fight against heaven, but one so heavily implanted into the (mundane) underworld was a disaster waiting to happen, because like it or not, the Sidereal Exalted were GOOD at being criminals. Really good. Well, that was just a worry for the future. Kejak was confident that he could give an offer that the child
could refuse, but would prefer to accept.

The penultimate candidate was the Green Ranger, and…

CK initial attitude towards Green Ranger (d10): 6, Not Bad

…she was acceptable as well. Having connections to the supernatural could prove useful in acquiring information about the state of things. While Kejak's sensors could gather quite a lot of information, they were sadly limited in how many things they could observe at once outside of the Exalted. If he had the location, for example, for where a group of werewolves were meeting, he could easily observe the meeting in secrecy. But that assumed he knew the meeting place beforehand, which couldn't be guaranteed. And dimensional pockets took time to locate and penetrate, which made the Raksha and Sorcerers here more irritating to locate compared to the more earthbound Vampires.

Ms. Lee's inquisitive nature was a good thing to develop for one of Jupiter's Chosen, and he would do his best to encourage it while training up her martial skills in case she found herself in a bad situation. But like Tommy, a dread possibility kept raising its head: The idea that instead of signing up for the mission, she might turn her trade to supporting her friend's newfound faction. A faction he had never heard of before at that, did one of the Vampire Clans change their name to "Giovanni"? Was it to better hide themselves among humans? He didn't know, once again his long sleep had blinded him to the changes made in the world.

But he could worry about that later. For now, Ms. Lee was still likely to be more of an asset than a hindrance. Which left the last Sidereal to catch his eye…

CK initial attitude towards Blue Ranger (d10): 5, Suitable

This wasn't to disparage Mr. Anderson, he was a perfectly suitable Range as well, he just didn't have as many good points to make him exceptional compared to his peers. His hobbies in literature were perfectly fine in moderation, though it seems that with the further falling of his family's fortunes he had turned to it as an almost coping mechanism. Understandable, and certainly healthier than the alternatives, though it isolated him from his peers almost as much as his family's decline did. While Kejak couldn't deny the enjoyment of finding a good book to read, his preferences leaned more towards the nonfiction and informational, rather than the fictional tales of imagined horrors.

Unlike the rest of his Circle however Mr. Anderson was painfully unathletic, and without the excuse of malnutrition which Tommy had. He would need to be trained almost from the ground-up, assuming that his Exaltation didn't provide enough of a foundation already. A Sidereal could focus their efforts in the realms of invention and sociability, but at the end of the day it was still expected that they should be able to defend themselves. He just hoped that the learning curve wouldn't prove too steep for the young man.

Yet, overall, this newfound Circle had promise, moreso than he could have hoped for considering the age group they fell into. Perhaps the ancient was wrong to worry so much about the team's future prospects. Particularly since he was dealing with a major issue on his end…

Degradation (Choose 1)
[][Degradation] Insecure Location
  • Once upon a time, the base may have been safely hidden away… but too many Ages have passed. SOMEONE has or will discover the base's location soon, and they want whatever's inside of it.
  • If not taken, then the base should remain fully secure to outsiders… assuming a traitor doesn't arise among the team.
[][Degradation] I'm a Computer!
  • Kejak may be one of the most knowledgeable individuals out there regarding the Age of Legends… but he's not a Sidereal anymore. He has no means of teaching the Secret Arts to the Rangers, and is forgetting how such maneuvers are even performed.
  • If not taken, then Kejak will have access to a few Secret Art Styles to teach the Rangers.
[][Degradation] A Damaged Machine
  • "The machine" is broken. It cannot be used until fixed, and fixing it will require quite an arduous journey.
  • If not taken, then "the machine" is in pristine condition.
[][Degradation] United WE Stand
  • It shouldn't be happening, but it is. SOMETHING, or SOMEONE, is getting the recently Exalted Infernals in contact with one another. And though they might not trust one another initially, sooner or later they'll be getting along and coordinating with one another.
  • If not taken, then the Infernals will not be connected with one another, and thus the Rangers can tackle them one at a time.

But it wasn't all doom and gloom either. Thankfully, some of the extra preparations for this day when the facility was created had not failed, which ultimately left the future team in a better position than they might otherwise. The biggest gift still retained from the Age of Legends was of course-

Boon (Choose 1)
[][Boon] Loom-Emulation Module
  • Cannot be taken with "Insecure Location"
  • Formerly a Starmetal Alchemical in Creation who sacrificed their life to be turned into this device, the Loom-Emulation Module is part-pocket dimension, part reality stabilizer, and will allow the creation of Prophecies in a city-wide area.
  • If not taken, there are other ways to use Astrology here. But, they are much riskier. After all, Sidereal Astrology typically relies on either the Loom of Fate or the Pattern Spiders to work, and who controls the Pattern Spiders?
[][Boon] Ancient Secrets
  • Cannot be taken with "I'm a Computer!"
  • Kejak's systems will not just include Secret Arts styles, but also quite a number of Ancient Sorcery spells to learn. In addition, ???
  • If not taken, then the ??? can still be achieved, but requires a long chain of specific actions and research. CK will have a few Secret Arts Styles in his databases, but not every single one that's ever existed.
[][Boon] A Cache of Magic
  • Cannot be taken with "A Damaged Machine"
  • One of, if not THE last supply of Starmetal in the world has been hidden away in this base, alongside a stash of Jade. Could be used to make impressive magical items, or to supply a one-time full repair of "the machine."
  • If not taken, then "the machine" will be fully functional, but will require a long quest to find materials if broken. Starmetal is difficult to find on planet Earth because of the lack of regular asteroid collisions, but it might be easier out in the depths of space. Jade on the other hand can be found on Earth, but is often highly prized by the Hungry Dead for their own works.
[][Boon] A Sixth Ranger
  • Cannot be taken with "United WE Stand"
  • A Sixth Exaltation with an associated uniform has been stashed away. If unleashed, a random person will receive the power, but they WILL be willing to take up the team's mission and start off friendly with the squad. The Exaltation is random, not a Sidereal, not an Infernal, but definitely Celestial level.
  • If not taken, there will be other opportunities to recruit other Exalted to the team, they just might take a lot of convincing. Plus, they'll need a uniform made for them, and where are you going to find the materials for that?

Meanwhile, as the days went by, odd signs began to appear around the five teenagers. Strange coincidences, omens that they instinctively KNEW were important even though they had no idea why. As the weeks passed, these signs became more prominent and intense, and eventually all five were drawn to a situation in the middle of the night. Led out of their homes (or living space in Tommy's case) by such a strong instinct, they arrived at the same location at the same time, and it was at this moment that their strange phase of life culminated into subtle power.

But what WAS the situation which they had been led to deal with?

[][Situation] A turf war between Vampires, as Kindred and Hungry Dead fought openly for dominance of the coastlines. The violence can be stopped here, either through diplomacy or overwhelming dominance, but it will be difficult.

[][Situation] An outpouring of smog-Banes from an old factory outside of the city's center, heading towards the populated suburbs. They must be fought, but can they even be killed by such an inexperienced team?

[][Situation] An unusual outdoor meeting between Technocracy agents. Stealth is of the utmost priority here, to avoid getting discovered and shot.

The Vote Will End on December 17th at 4:00 PM PST. This may change if necessary.
Please vote in a plan format for this vote.

Author's Note: And with our team members chosen, we're slowly ticking down the clock for the prologue. If you're interested in what the ORIGINAL rolls for CK's attitude towards the team candidates, it was:

Journeys (3), Serenity (7), Battles (1), Secrets (10), Endings (1)

Yeah, not the best rolls here. What does Attitude have to do with anything? You'll just have to see, but it can go lower or higher depending on the character's actions. As is, Chejop likes the team as a whole a lot more than he would have otherwise, even if not to the same extreme heights.

If you have any questions regarding the Boons, I'll do my best to answer as best as I can, with the exception of the ???. What I WILL say about the ??? is that they're something that could not exist in Creation for several reasons. Oh, and the ??? is multiple, I guess that's also important.

As for what the "machine" is, c'mon. Its Power Rangers. You know what that means.

Thanks everyone who voted last time, I really appreciate it.

(Temporary) Character Sheet Update New
Updated the character sheets with character's names, gender, Attributes and Abilities. I also included Ethnicity moreso for my own purposes so I can keep track of how they look in my mind's eye, still deciding on how Tommy and Amanda look since a physical description wasn't provided. @DragonParadox since it was your plan, any insight you'd like to provide there?

EDIT: Actually, Alex as well, can't decide on how he should look like.

As for the stats, I focused on specialization over general decency in order to differentiate the characters more. So, if you're wondering why Jiu and Amanda have more Strength than Alex, it's because A) as a fencer I figured that Alex focused more on precise strikes and constant bouts rather than hitting someone hard, and B) Exaltation buffed them up quite a bit, even if it's not visible to the naked eye. If you have any questions for why I've assigned which stats where, let me know!

Finally, we've had a few votes come in, if anyone else wants to vote please do so.
