Power Games (Nanoha fanfic)

I like how you make the sadly to mature children children, while still giving them moment of maturity. There's clearly some level of expectation thing going on, with Chrono the most mature (usually able to pass himself off as a menature adult), followed by Fate. Nanoha is starting to grow in that direction (if grow is the right word), while Hayate is still a child, all be it one struggling with her own death, and the death of her friend.

Blink blink. Inb4 Wraith is Healer, how about it's a representation of the rogue elements in the original program?.. Dammit, I don't recall what was said about what caused Tome of the Night Sky to become Book of Darkness. Possibly, some previous user decided to encode himself into it in a more permanent way? Sneaky he was, but device-savvy he wasn't...

Mistakes fixed.

Oh. Oh god damn you Aleph. God damn you for letting me think you'd have Subaru and Tea meet early. God damn you.

... wow. Okay, firstly, poor Quint. You are very cruel to your characters, Aleph.
Kekekeke

Say, d'you all remember back in the Game Theory thread? When someone got worried Quint wouldn't be adopting Subaru and Ginga, and ES and I reassured everyone that yes, she had indeed started the adoption process, and you were all like "ah, cool"?

Yeah. You know now what I knew then. Guess how hard I was laughing at the time. : 3

Bwhahahahahaha.

Oh, how deliciously smug our Skype planning conversations were at that time. So damn'd smug.

I even wrote an entry for Authors Saving Throw on the tvtropes pages. Gahhhhhh. So much for Subaru appearing in Teatime with Tea.

You know...

... don't take this as confirmation of any theory, one way or another, but the thought occurs to me that, you know. No one seeing the infiltration ninja-y one might sort of suggest that they're doing their job properly.

Well, that, or they practice Ninja Gaiden Stealth and so no one reports that they were here because everyone who could have seen them is lying on the floor in at least three pieces.

Or it's just a myth. *shrug* We ARE talking about lore passed down over the years.

ANYWAY... great update, very nice. Poor Quint!

Well, Chrono is five years older than the three girls. It's not that hard to find fourteen year olds who are mostly adults. Especially when they find themselves in situations where they're not coddled.

It was mentioned that the Wraith apparently only shows up towards the end of a cycle; that would seem to point towards the master program and/or the defense program since (in canon) they can't do much until the Book is mostly filled. On the other hand, that doesn't explain why nobody has seen the Wraith in the more recent cycles.

My guess is that there were originally five Wolkenritter and that the Wraith fell victim to the damage that causes the defense program's wackiness. Perhaps the Wraith was able to remember what happens to the Book's master when the Tome is filled and began to act against the rest of the book, or mayhap the corruption simply made the Wraith non-functional. Of course, there's the meta-reason that with the Wraith the Wolkenritter now have a counterpart for Vesta as well as Nanoha, Fate, Arf, and Yuuno Linith.

But if Alicia is capable of repairing it... of course, that implies that the Book has a hardware failure of some sort, rather than a software failure (or that Alicia's new talent goes further than has yet been demonstrated.)
Meh, I still thing the Wraith is Shamal, acting offensively. Her attack powers are so different from her role as healer that it would seem unlikely that they would be linked, especially at the range she can strike from.

As for Alicia fixing the book, I doubt it, but I don't think there is a difference between hardware and software for the book.

"I was here the whole time."
"Chikaze, they've been spying on our war room meetings! THEY MUST BE AN AGENT OF THE ZOMBIES!"

I think Graham and company should be considered their own faction, despite nominally being members of the TSAB.

I also think Graham's getting additional help somehow. The disappearence of the Ravi and everyone else still bugs me - it was clearly an inside job, and I can't see the whole thing being done by a pair of catgirls. Or the Wolks.

There's also the fact that Jail will likely have a hand somewhere in this. He might just be a shadow lurker until the next installment, but I just can't see him sitting out on this, especially since Precia, who is heavily hinted at having worked with him, is still alive and is using her contacts.

*knock on door*
Precia: *opens door*
Jail: Hello!
Precia: *slams door* Everyone, emergency escape plan QB-Aleph!
Alicia: Ooh, that's the fun one!

I never said she'd work with him, but I doubt he'd leave such a potential source of SCIENCE! just go away when it was done with him.

Aria: *mews*

Crewman: "Oh my god! A kitty! Who's a cute kitty?"

Aria: *washes her ears*

Crewman: "You're washing your ears! You're adorable!"

Lotte: *hits crewman over back of head, drags body into cargo hold, throws body on top of large pre-existing pile.*

Lotte: "Sis. There has to be a better way of taking down an entire ship."

Aria: "If you want to swap and be the bait this time, feel free. In the mean time, pass me that piece of string."

One Minute Later

Crewman 2: "Oh my Kaisers! That kitty! She's playing with some string! How cute!"

Now I see Lotte and Aria doing base infiltrations in Prototype. I blame you.

I get the feeling that Jail is going to try and get his hands on Alicia. Upon succeeding she is in his captivity just long enough to bond with Ginga and Subaru, before using her "might come from the Lost Logia on her chest" knowledge and newfound skill with machines to break them out. This reveals Jail's presence for all to see at wherever his base is (I am betting on Schzenais) and causing a Thirty Ton Xanatos Pileup as everyone's schemes come crashing together.

It would be so much fun to watch! For us, not the characters involved of course.

Yeah, that was me.

Annoyed as I am, I have no actual complaints, since you are in fact doing your job as an author properly.

Oh no, I knew what you meant. I just wanted to have an excuse to post that snippet. It's been in my head since Game Theory.

Nonsense! Everyone knows about 25% of TSAB agents are immune to cat proximity!

Because they're allergic.

LOVE the cat bits, ES.

Really, you and Aleph could just do the adventures of Vesta, Aria and Lotte and I'd read it....

Ninja Gaiden Stealth?

Isn't that the Takamachi method?
(Nanoha is bad at it, because it is kind of hard to dispose of witnesses when attempting to do so is visible from beyond the horizon.)

I don't recall in the TV series, but in the movie version of A's she knows (at least in general terms) what the book gets up to when it's been completed.[2] And if it is Reinforce, that sounds like ES's Hayabusa-style stealth... although she presumably has access to all sorts of sneaky magics.
She was aware of the whole mess in canon, too. There's a Drama CD where she angsts over the whole thing.

Of course, now I am imagining Ninjaforce, who can stealthily knock you down with a single punch. Also, she makes cardboard boxes to hide in.
