Q: What are you doing making another quest? Are you insane?
A: Yes. But, I want this quest to be something simple like eating popcorn. Spend maybe an hour writing, update, and go. Something relaxing to do after work on workdays when I don't have time to update my other quest.

Q: Why pokemon again?
A: One, I like pokemon. Two, a year ago today I started something awesome and couldn't keep it alive. This is me paying respects, a little.

Q: Are you going to go insane with mathy mechanics and rainbow symbol equations again?
A: No mechanics at all this time. Only story and what makes sense given what you are and know and your skillset.

Q: Are we doing your [+] [-] votes here?
A: No, just regular [X]s this time.

Q: Why didn't you tag me to let me know you started another quest?
A: List too long. Too much effort to make. It'll be in my sig.

Q: What's a pokemon?
A: Hello there, it seems you've been living under a rock-type! Pokemon is a popular RPG series featuring adorable catchable trainable tradeable elemental battle monsters. Some less adorable. Some less catchable.

Q: What's a gijinka?
A: Less than a furry, more than a cosplayer, somewhere around catgirls, your mileage may vary. They often have additional or replaced features from human baseline, such as animal tails, claws, body coloration, slight fur, and will typically choose clothing that matches their species's aesthetic, but the body plan remains humanoid wherever possible.

Q: What's randomizer?
A: They took the random option in the first update! Now things are off the rails!

Q: What's a Nuzlocke?
A: Limited character recruitment for your party, possibility of permanent death, hopefully emotional attachments (the better to crush you with).
In this AU of Kanto+Johto, there aren't trainers and they don't collect pokemon. You jump in a replica of Bill's broken teleporter and end up fused with a pokemon's DNA, gaining phenomenal magical powers. Not everyone can do this, and it makes you pretty much a superhero or supervillain. Morty and the Ghosts are in Lavender Town, Karen and the Darks run Ecruteak City, and Valerie has Fairies in Cherrygrove City. Other gyms and leaders remain the same. Leaders command squads of gijinka to protect their cities, mostly of their own types. Leaders themselves are fully human. Your duty as a gijinka is to work with The League to protect human civilization from pokemon attacks and the criminal element. Even villains like Team Rocket can be tolerated, as long as they don't kill anyone, and fight the good fight when needed. And while Team Rocket does keep up its part in the defense of civilization, they don't always pull their punches when it comes to taking over cities or committing crimes. Most serious crimes are dealt with by forcing the criminal into exile, leaving them to contend with the unending pokemon hordes and the other exiles without assistance or resources. That can easily become a death sentence in practice, but survival is certainly possible, and small groups of survivors often band together for resources.
That's where you're going to be ending up, by the way. In exile, and having to work your way back into society's good graces. We'll deal with the actual how a bit later, but I felt that would be a nasty thing to go into this without telling you, and then spring it on you later.

Well, let's get this rolling. You're about to become an amnesiac protagonist. Don't worry, it happens to everyone who goes through the process, and it will wear off.

You can feel energy sizzling inside you. Your muscles ache and your brain feels like... two big thumbs pushed on your eyes until you saw purple-green. Except that feeling is all the way through your head and out your ears. Or maybe back in through your ears and partway down your cramped tongue. It's dark and soft and warm. The air is still but not stale, and you can smell cotton and ozone. The cotton smell is mostly below you, which explains the soft. But you don't have the presence of mind just yet to account for the ozone smell. You're happy the walls of whatever you're in feel solid and metallic though. You're a little afraid right now and vulnerable, and the sturdy walls promise to not let anything mess with you until you can calm down and figure things out. You stretch and everything feels a bit off, yet strangely familiar.

Are you a boy or a girl?
[ ] Boy!
[ ] Girl!
[X] Uhh...

Which pokemon's powers did you get?
[ ] Turtwig is Grass, but evolves to Grass/Ground in its third stage.
[ ] Chespin is Grass, but evolves to Grass/Fighting in its third stage.
[ ] Bulbasaur is Grass/Poison, and stays that way through all stages.
[ ] Mudkip is Water, but evolves to Water/Ground in its second stage.
[ ] Piplup is Water, but evolves to Water/Steel in its third stage.
[ ] Froakie is Water, but evolves to Water/Dark in its third stage.
[ ] Charmander is Fire, but evolves to Fire/Flying in its third stage.
[ ] Fennekin is Fire, but evolves to Fire/Psychic in its third stage.

[X] Random selection! You might get a legend, you might get a failure!

First of all:

YES.

[X] Boy
[X] Mudkip

You can never go wrong with Mudkip, but I could be convinced to pick Froakie instead.
Random is tempting, though. How would you determine what we get from it?

oh hey it's a thing by my favorite QM

[X] Uhh...
I liked Nephri muchly
[X] Torchic is Fire, but evolves to Fire/Fighting in its third stage.
i'm traumatised by all the fire/fightings, but even so blaziken is one of my favorites ever and always has been
I like greninja and empoleon too, and mystery boxes, so if there's a significant number of folk going for any of those three and not torchic I'll tactically switch

Fuck it, PRAISE CHAOS.
HELL YEAH

Also, I loved gijinka stuff, this is going to be great! Sort of. It's a pity that there won't be moreeee gijinka, but I'll take it. Also, if we get a stupid pokemon I'll laugh, which will offset my disappointment. Luckily, I can deal with a lot of pokemon options, and I'm ambivalent on going for one of the starters though I love Torchic.

But also lol, forget foxgirls, we come for real gijinkas like part Chandelure, or Diglett, or that sword thing.

[X] Girl!
[X] Random

The chances of getting something decent should be good enough; however, I will laugh if we end up getting something ridiculously strong like one of the golems, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza or maybe even Arceus.
(Cue in Magikarp)

Really the vast majority of Pokemon are at least salvagable. And if disaster truly strikes and we're a Caterpie or Zigzagoon...well, that's a good story in and of itself, even if the protagonist won't be very personally powerful.

[X] Boy!

[X] Chespin is Grass, but evolves to Grass/Fighting in its third stage.

We've been a girl, we've been a Nephri, let's be a boy!

Random could get us something cool but usually the starters are pretty cool themselves. Chespin turns into a knight which could be pretty cool design wise as a gijinka. Charmander is pretty cool also and it would be cool to turn into something that flies..

Rykeun, no Snivy super arrogant human? You're killing me here!

So I am aware of nuzlocke rules but are they translating to the rest of the world too? As in are we going to go around killing the gym leader's pokemon?

Edit: nvm went back and read in the spoilers.

I am very surprised other people are supporting gen-neutral, but happy.

In Lord Hoopa we trust.

I suspect they recall my portrayal of Nephri favorably. If Uhh... wins, and it looks like it will, our protagonist will probably be in a very similar headspace genderwise. Maybe not quite so much socially inept though.

Now I am concerned.
As someone not familiar with your previous works, what do I have to prepare myself for?

Awkwardness on self body image, mostly. The classic dilemma between feminine and masculine clothing. Real ambiguity on the actual biological properties of the character. I recall it fondly (from what little I read of that quest)
