Mendez had had her doubts about the young officer, at first — it's hard not to, when you combine the woman's rumoured connections with rapid promotions — but nepotism isn't quite so unstoppable a beast in the SRI compared to the Navy. And already, the lieutenant has proven herself to be a calmly competent presence, as well as a reliable officer. That's one thing Milo Owusu's ever done for Mendez — not saddling her with a pampered idiot just pulled off a desk job.
north North NORTH

[X] Conspire with Owusu behind her back (for her own good)
No way in Pluto I am going to not conspire with Owusu. I would do it even if it weren't for Kitty's own good! We can trust the SRI, surely they've never done anything questionable to our crewmembers.

Besides, when you think about it, of all the casualties in Titanium only Captain Andre had Owusu's attention. This means that getting him in on the action is the best way to keep her safe. Definitely.

What's the point of going clever and conniving if Kana doesn't actually get to be clever and conniving?

He's so likeable. Honestly, I half expect we'll eventually have to choose between an independent Jupiter and the alliance with Saturn, where it turns into a circular firing squad of people putting individual interests ahead of the whole resistance against Earth.

I don't really believe an independent Jupiter will ultimately be viable, but I do believe many indies will refuse to accept that. I can see us having to make a hair trigger life defining choice in combat to back Milo or our friends.

Because if that is North, then she's going to be inside a battle in a barely armed tin can.
Oh, don't worry. The unnamed lieutenant on the other end of that call was, if you'll remember, leading the boarding party who were checking the space station out.

So, inside a space station with a bunch of SRI technicians, fending off pirates in a firefight. While a battle goes on around it.

Killing Amani is just as unforgivable as killing Azara would be!
>:O

I am going to be that salty person who is whining about it IC that Titanium Rose did a lot more with its derivative than Night Lily ever managed during that stint when it miraculously didn't explode.

Titanium Rose grade stealth drive! Mk. II
Unlike a Night Lily class, however, a Bulb is barely-armed by military standards, lightly armoured, and has little in the way of carrying capacity.

What are the guns for then, morale? No, seriously, if it's a stealth ship that is only designed to creep in the enemy territory and nothing else, why guns at all? It's not like it can target enemy commerce shipping, by the sound of it.
*coughs*
And because that would be wrong.
"Very good, Lieutenant,"

Lol, you might as well had her say who the Lieutenant is, it's quite obvious from the previous description.

Long time no see, Amani.

Of course it could be someone else entirely, someone who happens to have the last name starting with N and who Owusu knows enough to recommend as a comms officer for SRI. Of course.

Like there's any other option for the shifty pirate Princess God ninja

[X] Prioritise keeping her safe, whatever she thinks

I actually wonder if it might be Amani's sister. She got some sort of offer at the end, although I admit it would be a stretch for her to be given responsibility like this.

Maybe just some anti-mecha guns and/or PD to give it a bit more wiggle room for what it can escape from.

Not only a stretch, it goes against her basic competency.

She's a pilot ( and Daystar's shipping option :V ), not a comms specialist.

If she's here, somewhere, she's going to be driving an experimental custom mecha up the enemy's asses.

If Mosi gets anything less than a highly advanced elite mecha I'd be surprised.

She's an ace-level pilot, in a desperate situation and Daystar needed to gather up forces for something.

Given that this mysterious woman is described as "a calmly competent presence, as well as a reliable officer." Even if it isn't Amani it definitely doesn't describe Mosi.

Besides, we know Milo is competent.

We aren't even up to base standards for our ship and are down a squad. Let's rig things in her favor so she can survive long enough to learn to lead your squad. Rather be a third wheel then lose more people right now.

I can't wait until Kitty just asks why all this, and we blatantly tell her that we voted for Azara's survival, voted for her survival, voted to bring them together so that we could discreetly ship them from the dark corner of our squad and we aren't about to let her kill herself and invalidate all our painstaking efforts.
