Perchance to Dream (Halo/Mass Effect)

What, you think Cerberus pulled that number out of nowhere?

Now, here's something to consider. I haven't decided yet, but it's entirely possible that Cortana has gone through the Human-Covenant War over a hundred times by now, seeing John-insert-number-here die again and again.

Also, just imagine what'll happen when Cerberus unleashes 118.

118 would be the one who would be hunting down John-117 once he goes Rogue on Cerberus, even his loyalty will be stretched thin as the evidence keeps piling up. How long can Cortana keep up the Cherade as the Illusive Man continues to test and set them up. Or does she have some sort of shackles as well?
Do you really think Cerberus would allow one of their AIs to run around unshackled? Here's a question I'm surprised no one's asked. Everyone here knows that Cortana is an AI built with MEverse tech, that the Haloverse tech AIs aren't real. Yet no one has asked or even speculated as to where her blue box is.

Or maybe in a place that's rigged up with several pounds of plastic explosive, with TIM having the detonator on hand 24-7?

Next Gen Micro-Blue Box installed inside the suit? Meaning the second he thinks of going rogue Cortana locks it up?
Blue boxes don't come that small.

If TIM were that paranoid about his projects, Shepard wouldn't need to haul so many of them out of the fire in ME2... and he'd need a wheelbarrow to carry all those detonators.

the box has to be in his suit, or alteast on the "Reach"

if its not local then he could get interference, and if that happens then he will know something is up
You'd think so, wouldn't you?

Now we switch to the other John. Not happy fun reunion time, though.

Nos Astra was a beautiful city, but something about it felt... artificial. Still, it was safer than Omega or going into true Citadel space flying Cerberus colors.

And according to Tali, this was where Liara was.

John understood, intellectually, that the old crew had gone their separate ways. It had been two years, after all, but to him, it had just been a few days. Tali had regretfully informed him that she'd lost contact with Garrus several months ago, when he had quit his job at C-Sec -- And what the hell was that about, Vakarian? he wondered -- and Ashley just a few weeks ago, something about a new assingment. With Wrex on Tuchanka and Liara here on Illium, his first stop was an obvious choice.

He exchanged polite pleasantries with the asari concierge who greeted him at Nos Astra spaceport and quickly made his way to Liara's office. Apparently, she had become a rather successful information broker. He smiled. How that happened was a story he just had to hear...

"Liara!" John called as he entered her office, a broad grin on his face.

"Shepard," she said, looking up. She looked... tired. "I have to admit, I wasn't expecting you for a few more weeks. It was a bit hectic getting the berth cleared and the docking fees paid after Tali's call."

Something cold and hard formed in John's gut, and confusion settled in as he processed her greeting. How did she know he was coming, that he would even be alive to come here? He could count on his fingers the number of people he had made contact with since waking up in that Cerberus facility, and he'd pretty much told Tali he was heading for Illium first...

His mouth went dry in realization. The only way Liara could know Cerberus was bringing him back was...

"How did you know?"

She stuttered to a halt. "What?"

"How did you know Cerberus was bringing me back?" he clarified.

Liara froze, staring at him like a deer caught in the headlights.

Not sure why, but I always seem to have difficulty getting inside Liara's head when I write.

I think I need some input as to who Shepard romanced during the hunt for Saren, if anyone. And who he might romance during the fight against the Collectors. Thoughts?

You could do a Shep/Ash relationship, and maybe seeing how he's NOT with Cerberus anymore, bring her along with a Alliance crew, thus continuing the relationship?

No offense, but I'd rather not have a M/M relationship.

That kinda just felt tacked on in ME3, and that's not even counting what kinds of fangirls such a pairing would draw onto the thread.

But yeah, a Shep/Ash or Shep/Liara ship would probably be the best option.

Yeah, I was aware of that, the issue I have is with it just seeming to be.... tacked on, sorta last minute in a manner of speaking.

I can't really explain it, it's a feeling in my gut.

It's like a last minute addition, a Parthian shot, in a manner of speaking.

It was actually going to be fully possible to have a gay relationship in ME1 - much of the dialogue for it was filmed with both Kaidan and Ashley being the potential gay partners for male and female Shepard's respectively. It's just bioware took it out at the last minute though you can still access it with keyboard commands on the PC.
I question how much of the cut content was ever expected to end up in the game. For instance, remember FemShep's comment to Liara about them both being women? I once stumbled across a Youtube (sadly now missing) video of that same line of dialogue. Delivered by ManShep. Yes, voiced by Mark Meer. o_O

I agree, it's very brave of them, but like I said, it just seems to appear out of the blue, little foreshadowing.

If they'd been smart, they could've included little hints in ME1+ME2, small gestures, but they didn't.
