[X] Icipall
So, I took a look at the cover art on the box of FE:A today, when I noticed something. Kellam is actually on the cover! You have to squint a little, because he's hidden behind everyone else, but he's there. Just thought I'd share that little tidbit since well be seeing him soon.

I ain't seeing anything but a suit of armor.:V

Wait a second, you've caught a glimpse of the greatest stealth expert in all of Ylisse?!?

YOU'RE NOT HUMAN!!!

Chapter 2: Part 8- If we could just Talk
[X] Answer the phone, it would be better to just take your chances.

Should you answer? Should you risk it? The questions and their consequences flash through your head faster than you could keep track of them. You glance down at the unconscious men. One of them was enough to give you a hard time. You were holding yourself back because you want to keep this mission as nonlethal as possible, but your aching side was more than enough to explain why fighting any more of these guys is a bad idea.

You've never tried your hand at acting, but no time like the present.

You cough once, clearing your throat the best you could before leaning towards the phone. But as your stomach moves into the lean, your bruised side screams in protest. You fall forward slightly from the unexpected pain and a pain filled grunt escapes you.

The man on the other end of the phone took notice instantly "Garrus? Garrus is that you? You sound in pain, what happened up there?"

Your head snaps up and your eyes scan the room looking for inspiration. Your eyes land on a small patch of ice near the edge of the control column. An excuse for the noise quickly forms in your head.

"Yeah it's me, I just...slipped on some ice." As you speak, you keep your voice low while adding in a few winces for good measure. It was a simple a trick as you could think up in the small amount of time you had. Act like you were in pain, make an excuse for the noise, simple.

A moment of silence goes by, and you hear no response from the other man. What happened? Did he see through you so easily? Or was your excuse not good enough? Thinking back, you inwardly cringe at the answer you gave. Slipped on some ice. How pathetic is that? These are soldiers stationed to look after the fort connected to the busiest trade route between Ferox and Ylisse. They were strong, probably trained since childhood to be expert fighters and the best excuse you had to fool one of them was that the noise from a fight was that you slipped on some ice? Outsider's eyes, that has to be the stupidest thing that you've- "Again, Garrus," the man on the other end sighs "This is the third time this week. It's going to take two drinks to buy my silence this time. Naga only knows how many drinks Mason is going to demand."

-ever done that's worked this well.

"Yeah, he's lookin' at me like a dying bear right now. I'm going to be bled dry if the two of you keep drinking your fill. " You say, quickly switching to the voice you adopted moments before. But even if this man did believe that you were who you were pretending to be, it was only a matter of time before you let something slip. You have to end this conversation quickly. Come on, Corvo, think think think think think. Again, your eyes dart around for inspiration. But the room was devoid of anything that could be useful, and your imagination never sparked out ideas. Oh, what you would give to have a shred of Piero's genius right now.

A chilling breeze runs through the room, sending a shiver down your spine and causing the entrance door to squeak slightly. You glance back at the door and you manage to sneak a glance at the three barrels just outside the door. Even through all the fighting, the Commander was still sleeping soundly in the closest barrel. Wait, the Commander. Garrus and Mason were cleaning up the control console because of some sort of inspection.

"Anyway, I can't talk for much longer. The Commander is doing his surprise inspections today. He just left but I'd bet anything that he'll be back soon. I've already gotten myself a month in the frost pits and I an't getting into anymore trouble so that you might rub it in."

You hear a slight grimace from the other end of the pipe "A month? If you've already got that long in the pits I won't hurt you any more. Damn, I'm sorry Garrus."

"No you're not."

"No I'm not."

The line went dead, silence settling in.

By the Void did that just work? It took all of your self control to stop yourself from breathing the deepest sigh of relief you've ever done in your life. Ignoring the fact that you just pulled that off, you continue the work you had started before the voice nearly caused you to jump out of your skin.

Looking through the papers.

Most of them were useless. The snow had reduced them to illegible slabs of parchment that crumbled at your touch. Anything else was of even less use. Brochure for proper maintenance, and a few notes of either Garrus' or Mason's personal live. You find seven different IOU reminders, all of them involving payment in drink. It almost made you thankful. After all, a drunk target pissing his pants is a lot easier to take down than a sober and alert one. You move along the circular table, picking up anything that even remotely resembles an operations manual. Back in Dunwall, you made it a habit to read anything that might contain pertinent information. You would take it for a minute, memorize its contents, and then rewrite said information in your journal once you were back in the Hound's Pits.

Currently that skill was serving you better than any weapon. You read paper after paper, but none of them gives you the information you need. You slowly make your way across the circle but you still find nothing. Your fist slams against the control panel in frustration. This wasn't working, and the Shepherds would be here any minute. You need something to tell you where you need to look. Something to tell you the things that no one would ever be able to tell you. In an act of desperation, you pull the Heart out of your robe. Stepping over the unconscious form of one of the men, you quickly make your way to the center of the room. You raise the Heart, point it at the control console, and you squeeze.

"This room is filled with the power of control, but only for those that know how to wield it's might."

Yes, now if the Heart could actually tell you something you don't know! You squeeze again.

"In the castle of glass, it is not the force of the invading that will cause it to crumble. But the hesitance of the men within."

Again, that's something you already know. Heart, for once in your existence, talk straight and say the information that you truly need. Again, you squeeze.

"This room is filled with the power of control, but only for those that know how to wield it's might."

You almost throw the Heart against the floor as hard as you could out of sheer frustration. If there was only two things that the Heart could tell you, and both of those things were just repeating the obvious. It made the Heart worthless, leaving you back at square one. You put the Heart away and for no reason you find yourself pacing the room. Think Corvo think. If there isn't anything out in the open, that either means that the operations were too important to be left to the mercy of the elements. You stop pacing instantly as it hits you. Your hand snaps up and nearly hits you upside the head.

You run to the uncurious forms of the two men. Bending down, you start peeling off their armor to look for any kind of pockets. How could you be so stupid? No sensible person would keep valuable information out in the open when the snow would almost certainly destroy it. You would keep everything like that in a notebook that you kept on your person. You peal off the man's chest piece, and there in a woven in chest pocket was a small journal. You snatch the small leather bound book and shoot to your feet as you go through page after page. With each page that you glance at, a smile slowly forms on your face. The handwriting was horrible, grammar and punctuation was pathetic, but at least you could read it. And what you're reading is the complete operational for the Longfort's drawbridge controls.

Your eyes take in everything that they could and moments later, you had what you need. You pocket the book once you're finished and a soft snore escaped one of the men on the floor. The snow from the outside was slowly covering his face, and his entire body was shivering from the cold. Even the man with armor was shivering, they were going to get sick or worse if they stayed there.

You lean down to pick one of them up, but suddenly a bell rings from outside. The bell is immediately followed by the sound of metal smashing against stone. You look out one of the windows to see what was going on. On the second level of the fort courtyard, a line of heavily armored soldiers stood ready with spears in hand. They wore similar looking armor, huge shoulders of steel with red stripes lining their backs and probably their chests. In the center of the line, a soldier with distinct green armor stands unflinching at the courtyard below him. But the courtyard was empty, what was the bell for?

You get your answer as soon as you look beyond the main gate. A large caravan, bearing Ylissean colors and symbols stood just beyond the main gate. The Shepherds are here. The commander in green raises his right hand in a fist before opening it. According to the book, it was the signal to stand ready.

As the men get into position, the Shepherds walk into the front courtyard. Chrom and Robin have take position on the front as the leaders. Right behind them stood Lissa, gripping her staff tight and shivering from the cold. Next to her, Virion cocks his head and smiles at any soldiers whose armor was even remotely feminine in nature. Next to him, the woman with the strange hat and glasses stood just as poised and her gaze was just as evaluating as ever. Taking up the left and right flanks, were Stahl and Vaike respectfully. Oddly enough though, Sumia was nowhere to be found.

Even if you want to think about the implications of Sumia not being the formation, the commander in green wasn't waiting around. He steps forward to call out to the Shepherds.

"Halt! Who goes there!?" The commander demands. That voice was too high to belong to a man. You blink slightly at the implication. The commander was female, good to know.

In response to the commander's demands, Chrom takes a step forward. Robin puts a hand on his shoulder, trying to stop him but he just shrugs it off. If Robin could shoot fire from her eyes, Chrom would have a hole through his chest with the intensity of her gaze. Lissa manages to calm her down, but as a bodyguard you can see where Robin is coming from. Chrom might be stepping forward as part of some way to show respect or show that the Shepherds didn't mean any harm. That's all well can good, as long as you don't do it in a way that makes you the easiest target for every spearman and archer outside the fort.

"In the name of House Ylisse, I seek audience with the Khans!" Chrom calls.

He takes a single step forward, and the commander takes the friendly action in the worst way possible "Not another step, my bold lad! I've lancers at the ready!"

Chrom's face blanches at the words "Milady, there's no need for hostilities. I'm here under direct orders of my sister, Exalt Emmeryn herself!"

"And my only orders are to keep scum like you out of Regna Ferox, brigand! You think that you're the first 'Ylisseans' to try and come into our lands? I have the authority to put down such filth where they stand!"

Chrom opens his mouth to retort, but he stops himself when he finds Robin at his side. She gives him a look before giving the commander her best gaze "Milord here speaks the truth! We have papers bearing both the Exalts words and her seal. If you simply allow us to speak with you, I'm sure that we can come to a peaceful resolution."

The entire courtyard goes silent, all heads turn to the commander to hear her decision. You don't see her face, but you see her lean down slightly.

"Peace? Who are you to talk of peace with your countrymen constantly assaulting our borders and killing our brothers!"

Robin takes a step back, out of reflex if anything against the sudden hostility "What are you-?"

"Don't speak again Plegian bitch!"

Something crawls up from your stomach and dies in your throat. You try to swallow it down, but nothing you can do stops the fear from coming to you. Robin was Plegian? Wasn't that the country that Emmeryn said was threatening with war? How could Robin possibly be…

Your quickly shake your head. No, don't jump to conclusions. You have the commanders word and nothing more. But even as you think that, it doesn't stop the words from taking root in your mind. Robin's eyes grow until they threaten to bulge out of their sockets. Even with the distance separating you, you can see the thoughts swirling through her mind. She slowly puts a hand to her head, as if to steady herself after a fearsome blow. She looks at the ground as her eyes slowly glaze over.

"Please, there's no need for this!" Chrom screams as he steps forward putting himself between the soldiers and Robin "If we can just talk this ou-!"

"I've heard enough of your lies! Attack!!!"

From the top of wall, four soldiers instantly let loose their spears. Time seems to slow as you watch Chrom throw Robin out of the way of the spears. But while the action saves Robin, it dooms Chrom to take the spears. He futilely throws an arm up to protect himself. The spears head straight for him, but then you blink, and the spears impale harmlessly against the ground?

You and everyone in the courtyard share a look of bewilderment as youstare at the space which Chrom previously occupied. Instead of a body, the spears had only pierced, wait, were those feathers? The sound of flapping wings causes you to look to the sky, and a honest to Void smile breaks out on your face. Flying high above the Longfort was a creature and its rider. The creature is a horse with wings attached to its back that were far larger than the ones on any bird. It galloped gracefully through the sky with Sumia and Chrom riding on its back.

You can't hear them, but you're sure that they were having some kind of moment. For some reason, you found yourself waving at the two sky riders. You don't know why you're doing it, it just felt right. Through the distance, Sumia sees your waving and nearly falls off her mount when she notices you. Chrom catches her before she can get into any real danger, but he nearly falls off the horse when he notices you as well. He stares at you, wide eyed and flabbergasted. If it were any other situation, you would have laughed at the ridiculousness of the whole situation.

But the soldiers below Chrom and Sumia were readying another volley of spears, and the remaining Shepherds were getting into a modified battle formation. Robin was shouting orders, but her eyes were still clouded with doubt and distractions. You shoot Chrom a serious look from behind your mask. He can't see your expression, but his own face hardens. He unsheathes his broadsword and waits. You quickly look over the courtyard, counting the enemy forces. You count a unit of three close to the right gate and a unit of four near the left.

You point to the right gate, and Chrom nods in understanding. He screams something to Sumia, and the two dive down to join with the others. The sound of arrows being let loose, fire exploding against stone and clashing metal fills your ears as your hands fly across the control console. You pull lever after lever and all around the courtyard, gears turn and whirl bringing your work in fruition.

The gates shut on dozens of soldiers trying to get into the main courtyard. The steel reinforcements come crashing down a second later, locking Outsider knows how many soldiers inside. The Shepherds move as a single unit of pure destruction. They charge the three men guarding the right gate. With Vaike, Stahl, Chrom and Sumia taking point, it was a one sided massacre as they more or less batted the three men aside. And thanks to your efforts, as soon as they get their way up the stairs the right gate opens to allow them easy passage to the second level where the commander and her guards were standing.

You feel a sense of pride swell in your chest as the Shepherds pour into the second level. The commander shouts orders and her knights form a wall of muscle and steel. But a fire spell from Robin quickly causes the formation to fall apart.

At this point, there wasn't much danger of the Shepherds loosing. But there were still a dozen men between them and total victory. As much as you want to go down there, join them in the final push you had to stay here. No doubt your actions have caused someone to notice that you don't have Ferox's best interests at heart. Soldiers were probably coming up right now to open the gate again and allow the remaining soldiers to take to the field. You need to stay here, just in case.

You hear the sound of someone shivering behind you. You turn around, and notice what has become of the two men you knocked out only minutes before. They were both shivering and coughing in their unconscious states. From the way that snow seems to instantly melt as soon as it touches their heads, they were burning hot and probably running a fever. Below you, the battle was entering a stalemate as each of the Shepherds goes into battle with a different Ferox soldier. You can't tell who's fighting whom, but now everyone is within range of your crossbow. If things go badly for anyone, you could help them with a well placed bolt. But you could also get these men in the fort and out of the cold.

[] Take a moment to get the men out of the cold. It would cost you precious seconds, seconds that you need to use to watch and direct the flow of battle. You would be putting your friends at risk, and something could happen that you could stop. But while you might be able to save many out there, you can save two right here.

If the battle continues like this, everything should be over in seconds. You can keep your friends safe, but you don't really know what will happen to these men here.

We're going to redeem ourself and be a good person. That's what a Low Chaos Corvo would do, plus we're a Fire Emblem protagonist now, being good should let us curb our new Dark God persona a bit.

I don't suppose blink is up yet, is it?

Nope, you still have [REDACTED] you have to wait. But don't worry, it isn't going to be long. A day or two tops.

I mean, its not like you're going to have to fight a masked swordsmen who is a lot stronger than you and also has a mark within that short time period right?

This is a little too specific for my peace of mind...

I think he's referring to Marth, but we probably shouldn't trust the stations of canon.

They won't die in the few seconds it takes to make sure the people we actually care about don't bite it.

Chapter 2-Final: Removing Dishonor
[X] Take a moment to get the men out of the cold. It would cost you precious seconds, seconds that you need to use to watch and direct the flow of battle. You would be putting your friends at risk, and something could happen that you could stop. But while you might be able to save many out there, you can save two right here.

Steel clashes against steel just outside your window, but you're not looking down on the roaring battlefield. Instead, you pick up one of the men by the arm and gently carry him through the open door to the waiting barrels. He's shivering with the cold and you can barely see his breath against the almost arctic temperatures, but at least he's alive. You take him through the doors and gently set him down against the barrels. The second you know he's secure, you're heading back into the control room to get the other man. Like the last man, you carefully pick him up, throw him over your shoulder and carry him through the door. You set him up next to his friend. You make sure that they're close enough to share body heat and see your work pay off almost instantly. Their breathing starts to slow and their shivering, while not stopping completely, is starting to become unnoticeable. Smiling under your mask, you head back into the room and let out your own shivering breath as you rub your hands together.

Once the feeling returns to your fingers, you close the steel door. Lucky for you, there's a latch on the door that the men had forgotten to use. You slide the latch down, and the door locks shut as the steel comes together. You take your hand off the cold metal and wince as the frost bites into your skin. 'Thank the Outsider that Dunwall was never this cold', you think.

"AAHG!!"

Your head snaps around to the source of the scream. You sprint across the control room before you can even think of the dangers outside. But the scream takes priority over your personal safety. Because it was Chrom who was screaming.

You get to the edge of the control room and peer over the controls to look over the battlefield. The courtyard is littered with fallen, groaning soldiers, but no corpses and not a single Shephard from what you can see. Actually, that last observation is incorrect.

Chrom has his sword on the ground as he desperately fights to keep himself up, but the arrow in his knee was making that simple feat difficult. You scan the battlefield, and see an Archer atop one of the watchtowers.

You would have seen him if you had been paying attention.

Swallowing down the disappointment building in your chest, you brandish your crossbow and fire two bolts at the archer. The first hits his foot, causing him to lower his bow before he had the chance to attack someone else. The next hits him in the shoulder, stopping him from firing another shot. It might prove deadly if he isn't treated, but that thought isn't at the forefront of your mind at the moment.

What matters is Chrom's safety. Looking down, the other Shepherds have the same idea as Sumia, Vaike, Stahl and the librarian form a circle around him while Robin and Virion rush the commander. The second Robin is in range she opens fire with one huge ball of lightning after another, while Virion aims his arrows at any and all weak points in her armor.

The commander puts her shield up to protect herself, but the combination of magic and steel breaks through her guard so fast she shouldn't have bothered to defend in the first place. Her shield shatters like glass and throws her off balance. She regains her footing, but not fast enough to stop Robin from putting her sword next to her neck.

The commander looks surprised, but she smirks and bows her head in defeat.

"Surrender!" She orders "These people are who they say they are!"

The remaining soldiers of Farox immediately drop their weapons and bow their heads in defeat. This place is big on honor, it seems. Robin lets out a deep sigh before she looks to the sky, like she knew you were there all along. She waves, and you wave back.

The happy moment doesn't last however. Robin's eyes light up as she remembers Chrom. Her head snaps back to the prince, who's currently getting help from Lissa and Sumia. Robin takes a step forward, but stop when she remembers you. She points up to you and mouths 'Stay there.'

You wave a hand in acknowledgement as the amnesiac runs to Chrom. She and Sumia help Chrom to his feet and with the help of the commander and a few other soldiers, lead Chrom inside the fort. You want to help, but you have your orders, and considering what's happened in the last few days, you feel that disobeying orders is the last thing you should do right now. You do, however, bend them a little so you don't have to stay in the cold. You make your way out of the room, and hear one of the unconscious men in the barrels groan .

You eye the man, and then the barrel he's in. You have to wait here till someone gets you, and this room isn't exactly a huge improvement on the control room. You're shivering, and the men are probably on the verge of frostbite. Rubbing your hands together to keep the feeling in your fingers, you start working on making this waiting a little less uncomfortable.

***

It take you a bit, but after taking the men out of the barrels and using said containers for fuel, you and your unwilling companions were sat up next to a roaring fire atop the tower. Because of the smoke, you had to open the door to the outside to be able to breath fresh air. It allowed a little snow to float in, but the fire is warm and helps dull the aches and pains of the day. Glancing to the soldiers, you're delighted to see that they've regained their skin tone and they no longer shivering because of the cold. They'll be fine.

The sound of footsteps echos through the stone corridors of the tower. Soldiers were coming to pick you up. A part of you wants to shoot to your feet and run for cover so you aren't spotted. But you know they're only here because Robin told them you were here. So you take off your mask and wait.

A few seconds later a young captain finishes the long climb up the stairs.

"Corvo Attano?" he asks.

You nod and he continues, "Lady Robin requests your presence for the meeting with the Khan. Will you come with me?"

"I will," You say as you get to your feet, "So long as you get someone to take these men to a more comfortable place to rest."

He nods "Of course, take these men to the sickbay."

Two other soldiers rush past him ignoring you as they step around the fire to hoist the men over their shoulders. They stand at attention, waiting for something. The captain jerks his head down the stairs and you get the message. You start the trip down with the three Ferox soldiers behind you.

The climb down is infinitely less stressful than the climb up, but you make sure you're going fast enough so you don't delay the men carrying the unconscious soldiers. Once you get to the bottom of the stairs, the two head down the corridor while the captain wordlessly gestures in the other direction.

The walk down this hallway is just as lax as the walk down the stairs. Any soldiers that see you and the captain bow in respect to the higher ranking officer and allow the two of you to pass without problems. After a few turns, you find yourself in a huge throne room. It's almost identical to the throne room back in Dunwall: huge tapestries, open space for a party and a single throne. In the center of the open space, Lissa, Sumia and Robin were gathered around Chrom as they continue to work on his leg.

"The Khan will be with your shortly." The captain says.

You nod in acknowledgement and he leaves you with your fellow Shepherds. None of them have noticed you yet, their attention focused on healing and helping Chrom. Swallowing your fear, you step forward, "Are you alright?"

Lissa jumps and shouts in surprise. Similarly, Robin and Sumia flinch at your arrival. Chrom is the only one who doesn't react immediately, but the pain in his leg is probably what's keeping him from responding. He cracks an eye open and tries to smile at you, but his face contorts in pain once again.

Lissa's head snaps between you and Chrom. She purses her lips in thought, but decides that helping her brother is better than answering you at the moment.

"Chrom, sit down and don't move so I can heal you!" Lissa orders, voice uncharacteristically stern.

Grudgingly, the prince of Ylisse obeys his little sister and ends his efforts to stand. With the help of Sumia, he slowly sits down. Lissa carefully spreads his leg out, then she brings her staff out. She mutters something under her breath that you can't hear but a second later, her staff emits a warm glow and Chrom's pained expression softens.

Sumia sighs in relief and Robin gives her commander a playful smirk. The smirk only widens when she looks back at you "Glad you could make it."

"Well, a mission isn't done till you give the report to the commander, so I couldn't say no."

In any other situation, Robin might have laughed but her mood is ruined as her eyes go back to Chrom. You run to her side and kneel before Chrom. The prince chuckles at the act "Don't tell me… you're the reason the gates opened?"

You nod "I opened them on Robin's orders."

The prince glances up at Robin "You seriously told him to sneak into a fort? We're on a mission of diplomacy."

Robin waves the comment aside "Oh, no worries, it's not like anyone saw him."

You wince and Robin's smile fades "How many?"

"... Five." You admit.

Robin crosses her arms and gives you her best disappointed look.

"Five?"

"I knocked them all out." You say in your defense "They weren't going to raise any alarms."

"But they saw you?"

"They couldn't do anything once they did."

"But. They. Saw. You?"

"... Yes."

"Useless assassin, can't even sneak right." she says, throwing her hands up in exasperation.

You look up at her "Excuse me, who made whose victory possible?"

"Me." Robin says "I was the one who made you go into the fort, so all your successes are my successes."

"Then you share in my failures as well."

Robin looks at you flat faced "Can't you take a joke?"

"No."

That gets her to laugh, and to your surprise, Chrom, Lissa and Sumia join in.

"That's what I like to see! A good laugh after a well fought battle!"

The five of you slow your laughter to a stop as you turn and focus on the new voice. She is… well, you have to admit you were expecting someone bigger to be the Khan of a war hungry nation.

"The Khan I presume?" Robin asks.

The Faroxian nods "One of them, yes. I am the East Khan. My name is Flavia."

She looks down at Chrom "I apologize for the trouble at the gates, Prince Chrom. You and your men are welcome in Regna Ferox."

"Thank you, and I apologize, but you understand if I don't stand to speak with you."

Flavia shakes her head "Arrow to the knee, not a good way to go, but there are many worse."

"Is it true that bandits posing as Ylissians have been ransacking your borders?" Robin asks.

"Yes, damn those Plegian dogs!" Flavia shouts in anger.

"We found documents proving as much on the corpse of one of their captains. Plegia must see some benefit from causing tension between our kingdoms."

"Why fight your enemy yourself when you can make someone else do it for you?" Robin asks, "As a human, it sickens me. But as a tactician, it does make sense."

"Then that is all we need to come together to beat Plegia!" Chrom says "East Khan, will you help us?"

Flavia grimaces "As much as I would love putting those bastards in their place..."

You and Robin blink and share a look. A leader of a country swears.

"I cannot provide any troops for Ylisse's cause."

Your eyes shoot open, and you hear Robin swear under her breath. You feel the glow from Lissa's staff lessen as her concentration wavers.

"Why can't you?" Robin asks.

"I lack the authority."

"But aren't you the Khan?" You reason, "You should be able to do something, right?"

"I said I'm ONE of the Khans" Flavia says "In Ferox, the east and west Khans hold a tournament every few years. Whoever wins gains total sovereignty of the kingdom. And that means they have final say in whatever alliances Ferox has."

"So there's no way we can receive aid, is there." Chrom says, utterly defeated.

"Well not when you give up like that! Lucky for you, the tournament is in a few days at the capitol. And would you look at that, I'm in need of a champion." Flavia says.

"If one of you were to win in East Ferox's name and give me total rule, I will give you every soldier willing to fight. Which is probably all of us."

"But would your people allow us to fight for them?" Robin asks "It seem a little strange to allow us to fight."

"Nope!" Flavia laughs, "On the contrary, we Khan's don't fight. Instead, we both choose a champion and have them represent us in the tournament. Otherwise we'd have a lot less unity and a lot more dead Khan's. We don't involve kin for the same reason."

"So we're expendable?"

"Yes, if you want to be depressing." Flavia admits. "But either way, it's your choice."

"There is no choice!" Chrom says, raising his voice, "My people are desperate, we need all the help we can get. I will gladly fight in your stead!"

"I like your attitude, Prince, but you're in no condition to fight. I don't care if your healer is Naga herself, that leg of yours isn't going to be useful for a long while." Flavia says.

"But there isn't anyone more capable than me for something like this."

"If you were in your best condition, I would agree with you." Robin admits.

"Chrom," Lissa whispers "I know you want to keep your promise to Eym, but I can't heal your leg in time."

"I have faith. You're an incredible healer, you'll find a way."

"Not in time!"

Sumia puts a hand on Chrom's shoulder "Chrom, we all know you just want the best for our people, but your injury-."

Chrom throws Sumia's arm off in frustration "It doesn't matter how injured I am!" he shouts, "Ylisse needs Ferox's soldiers and I-."

"I can do it." You say.

Every head turns to look at you. The Shepherds' expressions were varied, but the single emotion that could describe them all was surprise. Flavia is the only one who had some degree of control of themselves. If anything, she looks excited. Robin's eyes widen to the size of dish plates, Chrom and Lissa's jaws are on the floor, and Sumia has a kind smile. Chrom shakes his head out of the confusion that seemed to render everyone else silent "Corvo," he starts "Do you know what you're saying?"

"This won't be the first time I've dueled on behalf of a kingdom." You say with the most confident smile you can manage.

Chrom tries to smile, but worry and fear take over as he looks at your hand. You feel your teeth grit in frustration. You've had it with the Outsider's meddling, with this... World Breaker. The power is... intoxicating. You don't remember the moment after you unleashed it, but when you had the power in your hands you felt like a god. It was like all your problems could be solved with a single flick of your wrist, and anyone who tried to get in your way would be destroyed. But, you weren't that man. Those you kill deserve to be killed. You would never stain your hands with the blood of the innocent. So there is no way in the Void that you're going to let this stop you from fulfilling your promise.

"Two days!"

Everyone blinks in surprise at your outburst "What?" Chrom asks.

You run a hand through your raven hair "I know." You admit "I know that I haven't been the most… open person in the world."

"And the understatement of the year goes to!" Robin all but yells.

You ignore her as best you can and focus solely on Chrom. You take a step forward, a gesture of pleading friendship. And while everyone else steps away, those two stood exactly where they were "I know you have a lot of questions for me. What my Mark is, who Anakis is," You glance at Robin, "Where I'm from."

Robin shifts where she stands, but she didn't even blink as you regarded her. You turn back to Chrom. "Chrom, I was nothing to you. I was just a strange guy in the middle of an open field with a strange girl."

"Hey!"

You hold up a finger to silence Robin "We'll talk about it later."

Robin purses her lips in a slight pout but she does keep her mouth shut.

"But even though I was a stranger, and not even an hour after meeting me, you asked me to join your Shepherds. Not a day later I'm attacked by a man bearing the same mask and powers and a similar fighting style. Anyone with half a sense for tactics would see that as more than a little bit suspicious."

Chrom looks away from you for a second to give Robin a wayward glance. Robin just nods, and he turns his attention back to you.

"But you?" You say pointing at him "You could have let a potential spy bleed out right there. But what did you do? You carried me back to your home, gave me treatment and defended me against an entire court of angry nobles."

Chrom's eyes widen "How did-?"

"Emmeryn told me."

Both Lissa and Chrom look to you in shock as you continue "So if you're willing to do all that for me, a man you only just met, I'm asking you. No, I begging you. To ignore the strange things that I've been involved in for another few days. I promise you, on the name of my former Empress Jessamine Kaldwin, I will give you victory and then I will tell you everything.."

The entire room goes silent, everyone from soldier to Khan taking in everything you said. You shut out everyone else and focus on Chrom, the one who had to make the choice. The prince of the nation ponders the thought for barely a second "Why?" he asks.

You remain utterly neutral in response of the question, there's no need to ask what, Chrom will explain when he feels he should speak again. So, you simply wait respectfully until Chrom continues "You're taking all these risks, willing to go any length to prove that you're on our side. If Frederick were here-."

"He'd tell you to stop doubting yourself and do what feels right." Lissa says.

"Then how do you feel about this, Lissa?" Chrom asks.

Instantly, Lissa shakes her head before gesturing at you with the wave of her hands "Corvo was willing to run into a burning building to get people out and he didn't bat an eye when Robin told him to solo an entire fort."

Her smile disappears "But… I won't lie. He still scares me a little."

Chrom nods, then turns his gaze to the others in the room "He was willing to help me upon our first meeting. And in return, he wanted nothing. Few men have such kindness." Sumia says.

Chrom looks around the room once again. Finally, he looks to you with most serious expression you've ever seen him wear.

"I don't mean to doubt your courage, you have my respect for just speaking up in the first place. But…" he pauses, searching for the right words "I've seen knights throw themselves into the fire for barely a reason, but you look ready to fight an army to make sure Ylisse gets what it needs. So before I say yes, I need to hear your reason."

Your break from his gaze to look at your blade. The same blade that saved an empire without taking an innocent life. The same blade that can't beat Anak, and the same blade that couldn't save her.

"I dishonored Jessamine in the most horrible way possible." You meet Chrom's gaze, "But I won't fail you the same way. I owe you a debt I cannot repay, I owe you my life. And I owe it to everyone to fix my mistakes."

Chrom nods, and turns to Flavia "Corvo Attano will fight on behalf of Ylisse."

The Khan shrugs "Fine by me."

Well that was quick.

"I'll have your Shepherds transferred to the capitol. Until it's time to leave, you all should rest up."

She points to you "And you, you have a big day ahead of you."

You nod and Flavia just smiles "Excellent. Have a good night, we have a long journey tomorrow, I want my future allies to look alive as they put their lives on the line!"

Before you can even question the Khan's enthusiasm, soldiers seem to appear out of the woodwork. They wordlessly help Chrom to his feet before deciding it would be faster to eliminate the middle man and just carry him out. Sumia and Lissa follow him and the soldiers out, but you and Robin just stand there watching. Flavia claps the two of you on the shoulder "I'll leave you two alone now."

And with that, she leaves you and Robin standing there, utterly dumbfounded of what just happened.

"I-I'll be in the library if you need me." She says.

Before you can respond, she's already walking away, leaving you alone in the throne room.
