One Eye, Full Of Insanity (A Gravity Falls/RWBY Jaune Arc Crossover Quest)

Okay, so you guys know how we choose right? I think red bovine's idea is the best for this quest. Any other type of systems that you think will replace the current one

Okay, this is very informative for me. I will try to make a new system that most of you will like. But since this is a quest, will you guys help me on this?
Honestly think the system is mostly fine as is. The only thing I would suggest changing is giving us actions dedicated to training, social and research. Somethings:

Training actions: 2

Social: 1

Research: 1

Also one thing I suggest to prevent updates from getting too long is to maybe combine certain actions with the update or just give a line or two. Example, there seems to only be so many ways to say that Jaune worked out to increase his strength by weightlifting so it doesn't really seem like you need to dedicate paragrapths each time for training after a point. Hell, you can probably just throw in a line that adds it like during a social action we see said person helping out Jaune with training or training with him. That and just a line like *Strength went up 1-3 points* could be enough in some cases.

That's genius! I will edit it right now

So, using the new options:

Training:
[X] Train your body (increase strength)

[X] Meditate (increase aura)

Social:
[X]Try to socialize more with...(this one is important too)
—[X] your baby sister (???)

Research:
[X] Use your eye for/on...
—[X] Research how to optimize your physical training. Also ask dad for help with this.

I also added a crafting action
I'm not so sure that's a great idea. That would have better been suited to being another "Research" option.

At present, we don't actually have anything to Craft because we haven't researched that stuff yet. There's nothing to Craft, really. And giving us an exclusive action to Craft with just implies that the best way to proceed is to be making stuff all the time - but that doesn't really suit Bill's personality, IMO, where he's more liable to focus on making himself better or socializing with his new family, not making stuff.

Besides, if you fold Crafting back into Research, then you neatly divide the Action types into Physical/Social/Mental. That way any "Research X" or "Spiritual training Y" or "Craft Z" or "All Seeing Eye on W" can be wrapped up under the Mental block.

2 actions for Physical makes sense because Aura alleviates fatigue while training, and then you've got 1 action for Social pursuits and 1 action for Mental pursuits. Later, we might unlocked mental/spiritual powers that give us more actions for Mental later, but I imagine those would be difficult to get. Similar for Social.

@z.no I've been thinking it over and what I think is really missing is getting inside the main character's head. Not just what Bill Ark trains in, and who he spends time with, but his actual perspective and characterization. His thoughts, beliefs, and preferences: who are his friends at school, what is his favorite food, and what are his non-combat hobbies? That sort of thing. Right now the quest isn't character driven. It feels less like we're playing as Jaune and more like we're playing his manager.
Also to avoid the whole training montage thing where people are worried that players have to choose between training and social I suggest just having mandatory training and social actions with one extra actions being what the players decide to use it for. Something like we get 2 training actions and one social action. Basically balance things out.
I'd actually go a step farther than that and mostly automate the training after establishing a training plan. Then training just becomes a matter of occasional status updates and always tacking on a "would you like to rearrange your training plan" option.

A training plan would be two parts
-"allocate percentages of your training time among these skills"
-"how much of your free time do you dedicate to training/learning?"

And then perhaps bonuses and maluses based off the availability of tutors and training material.

It feels less like we're playing as Jaune and more like we're playing his manager.
But we do see inside Bill's head though not often and we do see others people's point of view on Jaune. From what I've gathered Jaune is a weird kid that has trouble getting other people and even his family views him as weird. He is also insane and is still affected by his past but willing to change and has changed a bit to being able to care about people. That said he is literally Bill Cypher who people aren't likely to know much about if they haven't watched Gravity Falls so people may not get his character if they haven't.

I also don't see many people being willing to befriend him due to how weird and crazy he acts which puts people off and I'd rather the QM not automatically give us 'friends' just because since really rather we not be obligated to hang out with people when players didn't even want to hang out with 'OCs' outside our family. Not to mention that we already have a large family as is. If Jaune does make friends rather that be a choice by the questers.

Like I said, plenty of quests have QMs with varying different styles that influence them. An example are popular quests that are CK2 style where we usually have summaries of how events go down with some focusing more on the main character a lot while others go into it far less. For a quest like Embers in the Dusk that does just that suggesting that the QM change their style after several years would more than likely piss off a lot of people since particular style is likely why it's so liked and you'd also probably annoy other quests for trying to change it from something they liked to something you liked.

Also about character not being built up enough. It's literally been only a few updates and it's not unusually for characters to have their personality and pov revealed as time goes on since we would have had a lot more time to see inside their head and see them developed. Seriously, that's how I remember most quest starting with a character that is only partly developed who gets developed a lot more over time since we would have had much more time to see them developed. Especially in quests where players are encouraged to write omakes which inspire the QM with developing the character even in small ways. That's like complaining about viewers not understanding the main character when the movie has only gotten 3 minutes in. Also again the thing with fanworks using existing characters is that their background and personalities are also developed before hand like with Bill.

Honestly that just seems needlessly complicated and I've seen quests get hurt do to making things needlessly complicated. Besides that training is pretty important since it decides our build and we may more than likely need to change up our plans once in a while due to events changing our plans.

Also one of the main problems I've seen in quests is that questers either go overboard with training turning the quest into nothing but one long training montage or people completely ignoring training and getting bitten in the ass for it due to being underleveled. Which is why I suggested just giving us a set number of actions for each category so everything is balanced. In fact that's a trick I've seen that solves a number of issues in other quests.

So I'd say just keep everything as is after the action point fix last update.

Today was a good day. The sun is burning your skin, the birds are screaming their weird tunes and the kids that try to rip off your roses from your garden bare handed are crying. Nothing could ruin your push ups in the middle of the kid's park this day.

Jaune Roll1d20 = 11!
Gained 1 strength!

You're pretty sure the people shouldn't look at you like that.

But then, you hear a very familiar cry coming from the slide. You turn around and see your baby sister Mary crying! It seems like she fall from the slide. You quickly go to her side and help her get up.

She looks at you with teary eyes and reaches out to you for a hug. You quickly take her to your arms and inspect her for any injuries.

Just like your mom thought you on medic 101

Oh no! Your sister has a little wound over her knee! And you don't have the equipment with you for a surgery! Then you shall take her to the head medic, your mom! You quickly rush to your house with a teary eyed Mary at your hands.

You barge right into the house and shout out to your mom.

"Mother, we have gotten an emergancy! Mary's gotten an injury and she needs surgery RIGHT NOW"

"WHAT?!" Your mom screams from the kitchen. Wow, she really has a loud voice.

You hear footsteps coming and a door breaking down. Your mom comes in with a little medic handbag at her hand.

She looks at Mary and sees the hideous wound on her knee. She groans and looks at you.

"Oh my fucking god- Jaune, you nearly gave me a heart attack! I thought she broke her arm or something!"

"But the wound on her knee is making her grive and cry! Just like in the movies, mother!"

Your mom sighs and walks to Mary. At she takes out some alcohol and a cloth.

"Now come here Jaune, I will teach you how to clean wounds and bandage them."

(Congratulations! You have gained the skill field surgery! Because of your understanding of how to react to different types of situations, you have lost -1 social interractions on one eye full of insanity!)

Well that day was weird, but at least you learned something. Right now you're asking dad to show you different types of fighting styles he knew.

"So, let me get this straight-" you dad starts "-you want to learn different styles of sword fighting, so you can make your own one. Son, you know that we already have our own family style right? Why would you even want to make a new one?"

[ ] well, I want my OWN style(you will decide what bonuses your style will give you)(write in how much bonus it will give to your stats in it's full mastery)

[ ] I decided to change some useless parts on our family one
(your style will be mostly based on strength, dexterity second)

[ ] My new style will suit me more than our family one
(your style will be mostly based on agility, dexterity second)

"Well, I can help you to get a new pair of teachers that will help both you and Jeanette... but I will have to ask her first too"
—————————————————————————————————————————————

You decided to spend rest of the month by meditating while your sisters watching tv

Jaune Roll1d100x2 = 194!
You have gained 194 Aura!

"Jaune! Stop sleeping and watch the new episode with us!" Olive cryed behind you. You opened one eye to look at her.

"He's meditating Olive, be a little more considerate of him." Jeanette tells her. You nod to her as a thanks and go back to meditating.

Olive just puffs her cheeks and doesn't make any more comments. But it seems like June has something to say.

"Well, atleast he doesn't have to watch this children show." Which makes Olive even more angry

"It's not a child show! It's adventure!" Olive sideremarks but all of you just ignore it. This conversation makes Jeanette realize something important.

"But June, you're child too..."

Which was apperantly the wrong thing to say...

The next 10 minutes was spend with you trying to stop your sisters fight. Just as you manage to seperate them, you hear a voice behind you.

"Do not worry June, you're still a child in my eyes."

You remember this voice! It's your biggest sister July! A final year student in Atlas Academy!

After a 'who can hug more?' session, you all sit around a table and start asking questions to her

"How much you will stay?!"

"Only two weeks"

"How was Atlas?!"

"It was absolutely beautiful in architecture and blah blah blah..."

That's basically it. It seems like she made many friends there. The best friend to her was a girl named Winter Schnee, heiress of the Schnee Dust Company. Hmm, maybe you can use this to your advantage...

Just as Olive was gonna ask another question, July stopped her and looked at me.

"So, how has been my little brother? I haven't got any questions from him." She tells you. You decide to humor yourself a little

"Well, I was thinking about your boyfriend you told me about on the phone" you tell her.

A screetch can be heard in all around the house.

Hehehe, it seems like you mother heard your words~

Just as July was gonna strangle you, your mother barges right in

"A BOYFRIEND?! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?! WHAT'S HIS NAME?!" She starts the question rain. Well, 'it sucks to be her' you say to yourself, and continue to watch the show.

(Congratulations! A new social interraction has opened! It's Your sister July Arc!)

Did you guys liked the new format?
Yes.

Though, I'm curious - what state does the Arc Sword Style normally favor? Because our Str/Dex/Ago are fairly even with each other now, only our End is better by far.

So I'm wondering which option would be the more effective in the long run given well likely train our stats to enhance that style, so I want to ask which style would have the most long term potential for us as a swordsman?

Edit: we should definitely use this turn's social on July because she'll leave next turn for Atlas again. Or either our Social, or one of our Training actions... Or both. I'm undecided.

Because it's beginner it doesn't give anything. But at the adapt level it will give you +3 strengh and +2 dexterity. At the last level(after 5 stages) it will give you +30 str, +20 dex, +10 end and +10 agi. So it's mostly based on str and dex

That sounds fine by me! We can train the other stats on the side as well, or pick up other styles to train In and get stats from too, I'm guessing, but refining the Arc Style to be even better than before... That sounds too good to pass up.

I'm undecided on which one to train with. Dad improves a style we know is going to be good and will provide stats at the adept stage. But learning a new style from July might help enhance Arc style over time (via All Seeing Eye and the vote to enhance the Arc style with other styles), or be trained up later for more supplementary stat bonuses...

Edit: I'm just going to go with July and get hers while we still can. I'm assuming that Atlasian Style Sword is Agility, Dexterity based, and that'll complement Arc Style Sword's Strength, Dexterity based very nicely.

[X] Use your eye for/on...
