Old adventurers never die, they simply fade away.

I would not be particularly surprised if this was true, especially if he settled down to grow the equivalent of weed and spend his days smoking the heck out of his fields. That reads to me like a person with issues self medicating.

Maybe we should've started the quest by finding a therapist? :V

Additional thought: Sarnar wasn't pissed/invested in the kid's adventure, it's more that the Enramu Sarnar got to know, and trust, the friend she'd made...Was naught more then an act, one that apparently held less meaning to him then a flipping Dreamweed pipe.
Then again...

..Depending on the ah, 'properties' of Dreamweed...It might be more accurate to say the call for more Dreamweed might be louder then the call for adventure...

Oh god yes.

No I think she is invested in the kids now, because she's realized they need her. See her referring to them as ducklings and the way she reacted specifically to Ivasaar's lack of care for their plight.

The fact that Ivasaar was also a dick to her by passing off their friendship and specifically that adventure they had, which was a part of Sahar's life which was obviously important to her, is another large factor. Multiple things she needs to untangle basically pissing her off.

[X] The Wizard, Aamir al-Jafari: Last you heard he'd headed back to his home country to the south of Odrijan to take up a deanship at his old magical university, the Kiriton University of the Arcane. He might be able to help. Bit of a longer trek, at least a couple months, but he could offer a lot of magical insight and of course his phenomenal magical power. Plus he could teleport you where ever you needed to go next.

"I understand why she said that but, ah. I'm not in that business anymore. I grow dreamblossom, mostly. I'm trying to focus on myself, you know? Of course, mother wants me to join the Glade Guard, but being a farmer is a perfectly respectable occupation." Vitor nodded in agreement, apparently rather taken by your old friend (who was not actually your old friend).

Hahaha, this part is amazing. You're not a farmer dude, you live in the woods and grow pot.

Hmm... I'm not really sure where Jahanabad is, but it seems to make geographical sense to head south and visit the wizard and cleric in succession. I think Sahar might have to show at least a little emotional vulnerability before she can have any success with Noel.

[X]The Cleric, Valyr Linna: Last you knew, the dragonbon cleric was working in their small home in the Suslis archipelago off the coast of Odrijan. They were the sort who had always been ready to fight evil wherever it dwelled. Surely, their divine powers, healing skills, and wise insight would be helpful in the fight against this Anton. About a month, maybe less if you travel most of the way by water.

[X] The Rogue, Dal Quickknife: From what you've heard she's in the city of Jahanabad. Doing what, you weren't sure but that half-orc always kept her ear to the ground and she could definitely give you information. And she'd be useful for figuring out the best way of approaching this problem given her quick mind.

Maybe she'll be up for some "fun."

@Artificial Girl how far off is my guess?

The dragonborn cleric meanwhile became a political agitator or worse declared a living saint hence far harder to approach than the queen herself.

It seems like the Cleric is winning- for now. It's a tight one, to be honest.

Teleportation sounds helpful even if he doesn't want to help with the adventure itself.

Missed your X in the brackets.

So I'm honestly feeling quite sorry for our Veteran Adventurer as I'm fairly certain she's going to be die saving the kids because she doesn't have any thing else left.

Everyone is forgotten eventually but isn't hell to see it happen before you even die. Even more so when Dark Lords keep popping up like daisies do what was her life worth?

Sorry, sorry," you tried your best to be placating. "I've just seen a lot of young kids who go off adventuring and think they're getting covered in glory and then run home with their tail between their legs. Just wanted to know." And many of them ended up dead or disillusioned, too. That wasn't something for you to think about now, though.

So the average adventurer returns home in disgrace or just dies.

That... okay, that wasn't actually that common in your experience and your own adventuring career had started because you were tired of scrubbing pots and pans at your parent's tavern while your older siblings got to do interesting things like learn how to run the business and go to university. You wondered how the family was doing these days... But that wasn't important.

So the odds that her family never even realized 20 years ago that she was one of the band of heroes especially with Noel getting the credit? Quite high. Also her family possibly getting torched, or killed in one incident or another. And even if none of the above happened they probably think she's dead because 20 years with no contact or thereabouts...

So I'm expecting 20 years of administration to have taken a physical toll. Plus human so no slow aging. Or for magical university lead him to be insane or dead cleaning up after a student summoned something that had to be out back down.

[ ]The Ranger, Enramu Greencloak: Probably the hardest to track down, but well worth the trouble. He had disappeared into the northern wilds of the Wood Elves a while back and while that meant he was fairly close to where you were now, you might have to spend a decent amount of time stomping around the woods in search of him. Still, his unerring accuracy with a bow, knowledge of the wilderness, and his unmatched tracking ability would surely come in handy in this new struggle.

Either someone that didn't care enough or self medicating in the woods. You pick which one is the better option.

[ ] The Rogue, Dal Quickknife: From what you've heard she's in the city of Jahanabad. Doing what, you weren't sure but that half-orc always kept her ear to the ground and she could definitely give you information. And she'd be useful for figuring out the best way of approaching this problem given her quick mind.

Orcs and half orcs age faster as I recall in DnD. So dead of old age, senility are on he table as well as hand cut off, murdered, executed and less garish possibilities of settling down and going straight.

[ ] The Paladin: Queen Noel Devere, also known as the Half-elven, first of her name. Currently the reigning monarch of your home country of Odrijan. She is another couple of weeks good travel at least, in the capital of Kul Zard. The obvious choice and the most established, but also one you're a little reluctant to approach for your own reasons. Still, she's the kids' first choice...

And the Queen is probably going to break everyone's heart. It's been 20 years and while we really haven't moved on the character flaw is so far the unwillingness to accept that things change and time passes.

Her High and Mightiness Noel, First of Her Bloody Damn Name to get off her throne and help you.

Best case scenario is that Noel actually did something that would make leaving and never talking again understandable - like say talking to the girlfriend or nearly so and saying that as First of the Name a consort able to supply children was needed and it was a strictly monogamous relationship.

If it's a case of unwillingness to settle down (also possible) - well at least with the above seeing someone else with the woman you could have lived your life with isn't seeing something that you threw away that could have been you. If it was wanting to not stop adventuring- it's the near nameless and forgotten fighter looking at a life she could have had, a love and frankly a legacy.

Im not expecting a happy end for Sahar really.

Hi all. I was hoping to get another update out before I vanished for a weekend, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. :(

I'll be AFK starting tomorrow until next Monday, so expect an update next week. Sorry for keeping everyone waiting! <3
