Like Taylor doesn't already have enough of a body image issue. I feel bad when that gets pointed out to her.
She can certainly transfer a lot of material for the DWA, and even possibly tug out those ships stuck in the graveyard. And if some can float, would be good way to calibrate Taylor's small arms, or even get her bombers and fighters training on how to to bombing/strafing runs.

I am picturing swarms of well coordinated helcats in miniature. A few hell divers in the mix with confoam bombs, a repeat of the South Pacific Turkey shoot will happen the moment Lung.steps out of line.

I hope that the shifting abilities are such that Dani gets to feel comfortable in her own body as much as possible.

Our main character is a First Nations trans girl. Who shares a soul with a WWII destroyer. In a city full of Nazis.

Queue maniacal laughter.

Rune made the only smart decision.

Glad to see this back. The collective bricks about to be shat by anyone familiar with the USS Lexington is going to be hilarious.

"I was going to say indian."

I facepalmed. Ok, so it was better than calling me a Chug. "Please, Native American or First Nations. Salish,if you want to be specific. India's a completely different continent."

This is mostly irrelevant trivia, but whether or not a person with that particular ancestry is likely to object to the term "Indian" depends heavily on the individual, tribe, place of residence, and/or political alignment in question. I've known folks who live on a reservation, insist on being called Indian, and think anyone who uses "Native American" cares more about political correctness than actual understanding. Haida obviously isn't one of those people, but I felt it bears mentioning.

oh definitely, in Mexico we pretty much use indio and indigena (indigenous people) interchangeably but some have a preference for one or the other. I don't but I really don't look the part so who knows

Tlajtoli kipiya chikawalistli!

I just need confirmation here. Did Taylor trigger TWICE?!

Now Curiosity Question!
Do fairies all have random words for the speech or is it based on the region the ship origin is from?

This lacks a half-giant to tell new triggers they have powers.
"You're a parahuman Taylor."
"... you make a terrible Hagrid."

Oh, wow, I can't wait for the next chapter! I hope it's a long one!

I hope that the shifting abilities are such that Dani gets to feel comfortable in her own body as much as possible.

If you mean her female body, then I'd wager that she already is. This really explains why her parents were saying she was disgusting, they're transphobic.

what's with the bling on the last chapter?

That's what happens when somebody gives the OP a gift of money.

In all of the shipgirl fics that I've thus far, it's done by home nation of the ship. Japanese ships fairies say 'desu', americans say 'hey', germans say 'whol', etc, etc.

Gladly got a Porche while working as a teacher in a lower middle class high school? How much money did they stole from the Ward's program?.
While a brand new high end Porche would be more expensive than most teachers can afford, an old one that isn't from a rare year would be much cheaper. If you start from one of the cheaper (relatively speaking) models a 10 year old used model would probably not cost him much more than a couple months salary (i.e something he'd need to scrimp for and a foolish expense, but quite affordable if that's what he wants to spend it on).

My one complaint is that I thought that you had decided to not have any fairies in the story, yet she talks to her bossun.
This.

She'd also just fallen through a wall, three stories through a car and parking lot. I should have made the concussion a little clearer.
Concussions don't lead to hallucinations.

I really liked this chapter, and Haida's revelation of being Trans and Amerindian was well handled, but given her attitude regarding her heritage and her transformed shape being Caucasian I would think there'd be more grumbling from her about it, unless I've forgotten some stuff about her complaining to herself about her power robing her of her heritage (mild complaints since if she was offered the trade I'm sure she'd have taken it, but still...).

So I'm guessing that she got some phasing ability to live up to the Blue Ghost nickname, and also Plane Administration from QA, on top of Haida's dimensional bullship. That's a nasty combo.

Will she be able to work with RC planes or will she need to pick up some full-sized fighter planes to apply shipgirl shrinking to?

Specifically nerfed versions of both Shadow Stalker and Haida's abilities. Her blue ghost state is roughly the same density as a thick fog; she cannot pass through solid objects like Shadow Stalker can, but she might manage a screen door.

On the ship side of things, her dimensional pocket is 'tighter' than Haida's; she isn't as versatile in fiddling with physical attributes, nor will she be able to go 'full ship' form; even if that's how Dani perceives her.

What makes you think she didn't come out of the locker combat-loaded? :o

At 150,000 shaft horsepower, it's not a question of 'can she tow it', but 'can it stand up to being towed?'

69x F6F Hellcats, 5x F6F-5N radar-equipped night fighters, 15x SB2C Helldiver divebombers, and 15x TBF Avenger torpedo bombers. Any of which can carry in excess of 2,000lbs of ordinance.

Confoam for EVERYBODY.

While technically accurate, this was "The English Language" levels of cleverness by deliberately poor communication :p
HMCS Haida has always been female. For that matter, the person who'd eventually become Dani DeWolf has also always been female; though their body was wrong until her power corrected that.

If you mean her female body, then I'd wager that she already is. This really explains why her parents were saying she was disgusting, they're transphobic.

Haida's shard: "I'm halping!"
Dani's parents: "Great, now our poof of a son is a white girl. This is such an improvement."

Just binged this after seeing the new gild, it's pretty good! I have a really hard time getting into Kancolle fics mostly because I can't quite wrap my head around the shipgirls themselves as a concept, just in terms of fitting them into a setting (how powerful are they, are those guns equivalent to full-size counterparts, if not why are they better than a bunch of human soldiers, what on earth are their bodies, how do they work, do they actually have the combat output of a Kaiju, why are they The Entire Military). This one solved that problem very quickly, Dani's initial power explanation and the early demonstrations of her threat level did a ton to help me with my weird and very difficult to articulate problem. Dani just makes sense to me now, for the most part. She's also a delight to read, so that helps.

Before I started writing this, in addition to a number of scenes that were bouncing through my head (Halloween, the artillery strike on the parking lot, a short version of taylor's trigger), I knew I had to sit down and write a character bible that spells out exactly how Haida's power works, what she can do with it, and what its limitations are. I've seen the anime (once) and I haven't touched the mobile game; but there's enough hand-wave in the anime to make that vein over my eyebrow twitch.

Having a firm guideline on her power; and limiting to exactly one aspect of shard-bullshit (her dimensional pocket) while keeping the rest grounded in actual physics to the best of my not-math-nerd ability has been the key to making writing this interesting. :coolbeans:

Hey, ummm....I just thought of this...but...would Taylor's naval side try to get back to the Navy, and try to report for duty?
