Nine Quest: Believe In Getter and Hold A Determination to Build

[X] Take your concerns to Elfnein first. This is a practical problem just as much as anything else, and she seems like the designated problem solver around here, doubly so if it means upgrading the Symphogears. Plus she's already right here, so you don't have to worry about interrupting anything.

I just wanna see Carol, man. Need me some of that Best Girl screen time, especially since our best boy, the LAST ACTION HERO is likely not appearing...

[X] Take your concerns about the Custodians, upgrading the submarine, and the ethics of all this to the Commander. You think you've got his measure after that spar, and he seems like a good man who will hear you out.

I have faith in his ability to keep the mad scientists in line

Keep the mad science on hold for the moment, we cannot blow all our cards this early.

Still since the gears do have trouble flying iirc, we should be able to make personal scranders for everyone.

On the one hand, this is post-XV, meaning Carol is Deader Than Dead. On the other hand, large quantities of Photon Power have made the impossible possible before, including shenanigans like Dr. Hell coming back for another go, so never say never I suppose.

Update Twenty Six - Addressing Some Ethical Concerns New
[X] Take your concerns about the Custodians, upgrading the submarine, and the ethics of all this to the Commander. You think you've got his measure after that spar, and he seems like a good man who will hear you out.

"I think I need to go talk to the Commander," you say to Chris. "Tell the others I said hi, will you?"

"Pretty sure he's in a meeting right now," Chris replies, "but if it's that important then I won't try to stop you. Sure, I'll let the idiot know you were thinking of her." And with that, she walks away to rejoin the larger conversation going on between the wielders. You take the opportunity to slip past Elfnein, who's still scrolling through your design proposals with a stunned expression on your face, and make your way towards the Commander's office within the submarine. Tomosato briefly attempts to intercept you, but one look at your face has her yielding to you and standing aside without a word.

You knock on the Commander's door and overhear him comment from within. "And there's the android of the hour… come in, Nine!" Apparently he really was in a meeting; oh well, this is important.

"Pardon the intrusion," you say as you enter his office. You immediately spot both Genjuro sitting in his chair and a video screen displaying an older man with white hair and a truly absurd amount of noodles on his desk. Is this man an addict? Is he also seeking counseling from Genjuro to get help with his problems?

Genjuro takes advantage of your moment of stunned silence to introduce the two of you to each other. "Nine, I'd like you to meet Shibata, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and our primary contact within the Japanese government. Minister Shibata, this is Nine, the android I was telling you about and our newest Symphogear wielder."

"Charmed," the man says before he goes back to his noodles, slurping as he maintains eye contact with you. It seems like he's a bit on the rude side, but you've dealt with quirkier characters before.

"It's nice to meet you," you greet him as you take a seat on one side of the room, ensuring that you can speak to both Minister Shibata and the Commander simultaneously. "This is good timing, actually; I had some ethical questions about how we should proceed, so it's good to be able to speak to someone within the government as well as Commander Genjuro."

"What kind of ethical questions?" Genjuro asks, raising an eyebrow as he does so. "I assure you that I trust everyone in S.O.N.G. with my life."

"It's not S.O.N.G. that I'm worried about," you assure him before turning your attention back to Shibata. "Minister Shibata, what would the opinion of the Japanese government be if S.O.N.G. were to maintain a monopoly on Photon Power, at least for the time being?"

"You don't ask the easy questions, do you?" Shibata replies after finishing his current mouthful of noodles. "I can tell you right now that it wouldn't be popular and would probably start a few political fights. What's your reasoning?"

"My reasoning is to avoid something like this," you say as you effortlessly hack into the video call program that they're using and upload a pair of images. One is the image of Koji Kabuto fused with the cockpit of Mazinger Zero; the other, a picture of Mazinger Infinity unleashing its apocalyptic Breast Fire on the surrounding landscape. "Photon Power can do great good, but it can also do great evil; in short, it can make its wielder either a god or a devil. With that in mind, I want to be certain that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. There's also the fact that mining any additional Japanium ore will almost certainly awaken a pantheon of hostile gods that are slumbering beneath Mt. Fuji. While I expect us to have to fight them eventually, I would rather not accelerate that timetable any more than we absolutely have to."

"You have my full support, Nine," Genjuro finally chimes in. "Between what you and Elfnein have told me as well as Tomosato's report, I think we can safely conclude that Photon Power is both a miraculous energy source and extremely dangerous at the same time. I can therefore think of no one better suited to control its study and distribution than you." The show of support is gratifying; looks like you were right about him after all.

"You'll have my support as well," Minister Shibata says, looking slightly green around the gills. The sight of Koji fused into Zero appears to have put him off his appetite; oops. "There will be some pushback, but we should be able to navigate through it based on the testimony you just gave us. In addition to that, S.O.N.G. is still extremely popular in the aftermath of the Shem-Ha Incident, so that should help you weather the storm as well. We'll have to be careful about who we tell about the gods slumbering beneath Mt. Fuji, though; wouldn't want the Americans to launch another nuke at us like they did last year." That's a rather alarming statement for him to be so casual about, but before you can press him on the matter he barrels on forward. "I have another meeting to get to, but before I go, let me say this; I'm impressed, Miss Nine. You're the subject matter expert here, but even beyond that you seem to have a good head on your shoulders. Don't screw this up." And with that, he disconnects, not even bothering to say a proper goodbye.

"Still busy as always, I see," Genjuro rubs the bridge of his nose before straightening up and looking at you. "Sorry about Shibata; he means well, I promise. Now then, what else did you want to talk to me about?"

"I'm… nervous, I suppose you could say." You begin. "Between unleashing Photon Power and Getter Rays on the world, turning HQ into a space battleship so we can invade the Moon," here Genjuro blinks slightly in disbelief, "and dealing with the remnants of the Custodians in general, I'm worried that we're going to end up opening Pandora's Box. How far can we go before it becomes too far?"

The Commander pauses for a beat before opening his mouth again. "Well, those are some weighty concerns you have there Nine! And worthy concerns too; I'm glad that you're aware of the potential consequences and are looking out for us. Unfortunately, there are no easy answers to questions like that; I think that the best way to handle it is to treat it as a matter of trust."

"Trust?" You echo, not entirely sure where he's going with this.

"Yes, trust." He repeats. "While I agree that we will likely need to take some… unconventional… measures in dealing with this new threat, I think you're right that we need to be careful about going too far. With that in mind, I think it is important that we trust each other to speak up when one of us is doing something that could be excessively dangerous. As long as we have a mutual respect for each other's expertise and morals, I believe that we will be able to act as checks on each other's ambitions and ensure that no one does anything that they cannot take back. What do you think of that?"

Your first thought is to reject such a plan as too vague and nebulous, but on further review you realize that any such plan will need to be vague to adapt to the changing circumstances you will likely be faced with. If nothing else, the Getter Rays will be constantly pushing you to change and evolve in new ways, so it only makes sense that a fixed plan of action would not be able to respond to every possible threat that may arise out of overusing them. While Genjuro's plan is still a bit too open-ended for you to be entirely comfortable with, there really isn't any better way to go about this right now. And he does have a point; at the end of the day, everyone in Earth Fleet Tenku trusted one another with their lives, and it was that trust that got you through some of your darkest hours.

"I think it's a viable plan," you begin, "albeit a bit more vague than I would like. I do already trust you and everyone else in S.O.N.G. though, so a proper foundation for that attitude already exists. I think that for now your approach will be sufficient, although I would like to revisit it in the future if circumstances change."

"That's the spirit!" Genjuro smiles as he accepts your answer. "Now then, what can you tell me about turning HQ into a space battleship?" He seems mildly confused but overall on board with the idea, which is a good start.

"Alright," you reply, "it goes something like this…"

After you finish explaining your proposed changes to the submarine, you bid the Commander goodbye and set out for Elfnein's combined scientific lab and alchemy library. At long last, you have a few precious hours of lab time to work with, which means it's time to do what you do best: research and development! The next enemy attack shouldn't arrive for a few hours, so you have your choice of projects to work on as well as Elfnein's assistance. The only question is where the two of you should start.

[] Start a proper analysis of your 'relic fusion' state; you really want some more data on what's happening to you and where it's likely to lead if at all possible.

[] Start drafting up plans to upgrade the Symphogears; Elfnein mentioned that they can't fly outside of the unreliable 'X-Drive' mode, so that seems like a reasonable place to start.

[] Start working on upgrading the submarine; even if you can't make the most important changes without Photon Power or Super Alloy Z, there are still other improvements to be made before it's ready to go to space.

Update Twenty Seven - Science and Shouting New
[X] Start a proper analysis of your 'relic fusion' state; you really want some more data on what's happening to you and where it's likely to lead if at all possible.

"Alright," Elfnein begins as you enter her lab, "just lie down on the bed and we can begin." As you do so, her hand lights up with a golden alchemical symbol and she begins to study a newly-formed window into your internal systems.

"You have prior records of relic fusion specimens, right?" You ask as you peer into the window yourself. It's been a while since you saw your own internal structure so clearly and you can't say that you are excited about the thorny purple vines spreading throughout your body.

"Only the one specimen, I'm afraid," Elfnein replies, "and Hibiki was no longer fused with her relic by the time I joined S.O.N.G., so all of my knowledge is either from old records or purely hypothetical." That's not exactly ideal, but under the circumstances you'll take what you can get. "What I can say is that your fusion has advanced further over the past few days than hers did over the course of nearly three years. While it doesn't seem to be life-threatening thanks to your artificial nature, I would still be careful about how often you use your transformation just to be safe. In addition, I've noticed that your generator has changed its composition slightly compared to your first scan when you arrived here. Its shape is the same, but its output is increasing." Your generator is changing?

"That's absurd!" You reply. "I would have noticed if my central generator had changed… right? Actually, hold on a minute, take the image back for a moment." Elfnein does so, and the change is immediately apparent to you. Your antimatter generator always glowed a faint white, but now it's glowing green. "Are the Getter Rays… changing me?"

"Have you felt different from your usual self at any point since arriving in our dimension?" Elfnein asks you. At first you feel inclined to refuse, but then you think back to the battles of the past few days and your excited, almost feral smiles even as you were coughing up blood. Have the Getter Rays begun to affect your personality, or is it just your changing circumstances forcing you to adapt accordingly? You can't say for certain, and that frightens you. Will Sis even recognize you when you finally see her again?

"On the bright side," Elfnein interrupts your pondering, "the rapid progress of your fusion has allowed your sync rate to grow at an exponential rate. I wouldn't be surprised if you could induce X-Drive through your Superb Song alone, though for the sake of your health I would recommend that you not attempt that if at all possible."

"You never did tell me what a Superb Song actually is," you say as you continue staring at your changed, or perhaps corrupted, inner mechanisms.

"That's right!" Elfnein frets briefly before returning her attention to you. "The Superb Song is the Symphogear's deadliest weapon, a song that generates extreme phonic gain by burning up the user's very life force. Someone fused with a relic can handle the backlash better than a normal wielder, but it is still extremely dangerous to the user. Please promise me that you will never use it unless you have absolutely no other option whatsoever." Her sudden switch into a stern demeanor shakes you; is this what she's like when she's being serious about something?

"I promise. I certainly have no intention of injuring myself unless absolutely necessary." You agree without a second thought, as it only makes sense. Why would you ever use a deadly upgrade unless all of your other options were exhausted?

"Excellent!" Elfnein returns to her usual expression, her labcoat shifting as she does so. "Now then, let's see what else we can learn about your fusion, shall we?"

The next several hours are simultaneously productive and frustrating. On the bright side, studying how the Getter Rays affect your transformation have given you plenty of data on how you might incorporate Super Alloy Z into the other girls' Symphogears. By modifying the converter crystals with only a small shard of the material, the same mechanism that reconstructs the relic will also be able to create additional Super Alloy Z ex nihilo and strengthen the Symphogear's resistance to damage. Unfortunately, directly incorporating Photon Power alongside phonic gain will be impossible without also turning the girls into relic fusions, a process that they would be unlikely to survive even if you were monstrous enough to subject them to it.

The worse news is that while your fusion is unlikely to ever be life-threatening, it is almost certainly irreversible. While a strong enough will can reverse some of the effects of the Getter Rays, the newly modified state of your reactor is now reliant on them; removing them would cause you to shut down. As it stands, you have no choice but to constantly monitor your own behavior and mental state and try to avoid being further overtaken by the mentality that the Getter Rays have been provoking within you. You also learn that while introducing Getter Rays directly into the other Symphogears would likely give the girls life-threatening complications, careful usage of them could allow their relics to incorporate additional materials like Super Alloy Z more easily. The wielder in question would likely need to focus all of their willpower on avoiding being fused with their relic, but if it gives them all upgrades similar to the one from Great Mazinger to Mazin Emperor G then you'll call that a victory.

As the hours wind down and the time of the likely enemy attack approaches, Elfnein heads for the bridge while you join the other wielders on the deck of the submarine. Hibiki is the first one to notice you, and of course she immediately bounds over and crushes your spine with a tight hug. Personal space, woman! Personal space!

"Are you alright, Nine? You look kind of gloomy." Hibiki asks you after she lets go and backs up a step or two. She then gasps. "Oh no, your relic fusion isn't killing you too, is it?"

"Not physically, it isn't," you reply, "but it's a long story that we don't have time for right now. Are you ready to fight?"

"Honestly, I'm hoping we won't have to." She says. "If we can talk to this Ishum guy, maybe we can hold hands and settle our differences peacefully!"

"I hope so too," you tell her, "but something tells me it won't be that simple." Then the alarms go off as the sky distorts and a small army's worth of figures appear before you.

There they are, right on schedule. However, something is different this time. There are no MP Sarcophagi this time, only Karma-Noise. And that is a lot of Karma-Noise, monsters of all shapes and sizes, some flying and others ground-bound. And there he is, floating lazily in the air as if gravity were a mere suggestion. The Anunnaki's watchman of choice and your supposed executioner, R. Ishum. Now that you have better lighting to see him by, you notice that he's a close match for an android version of Enki. His hair matches the image on S.O.N.G.'s files, while his body is close save for the glowing lines running up and down his arms. He even has a bracer on one arm that matches the one worn by both Enki and Shem-Ha.

"Puppets of the Anathema!" His arrogant voice rings out through the night. "Surrender the android and the contaminated relic, and you will be permitted to live! I have no wish to harm the humans that our creators once guided and cherished!" You take note of his usage of 'our creators,' which has interesting implications. Is he too merely a creation of the Anunnaki and not properly one of them? "I only wish to protect you from that which cannot be reasoned with and must not be tolerated!"

"How can you say that about Nine?!" Hibiki shouts, with the other girls all supporting her. "She's not an enemy, she's our friend! Whatever it is you're worried about, I'm sure we can work something out if we just talk to each other!" This girl… if only more people were like her, the world might be a better place.

"Would that I could, young warrior," R. Ishum replies, now seeming… sad? So she gets empathy and you don't, you see how it is. "But to prevent Armageddon, I must destroy the source of the Anathema! Stand aside, or you will risk joining it in its fate!"

"We really don't have to do this!" You shout at him, desperately trying to avoid what some part of you already believes to be inevitable. "Just tell us why you're so afraid of the Getter Rays! We're already taking steps to mitigate the risks, steps you're negating by continuing to attack us! Just get off your high horse and talk to us already, dammit!" Oh dear, you haven't even transformed yet and it seems that your blood is already starting to burn hot.

"Anathema," he spits at you. "Do not take me for a fool. I shall exterminate you entirely, no matter the cost!" He then raises his arm and… speaks into his bracer? "Bring on the dawn!"

For a moment, all is still. Then, there is a roar of rushing air as a pillar of flame reaches down from the heavens and engulfs him entirely. By the time you can all see again, the machine is already taking shape, flame solidifying into metal as what can only be a genuine super robot rises forth to oppose you. This is bad; as if dealing with R. Ishum on his own wasn't going to be bad enough, he's a pilot as well? "Rise from the ashes, Dawnbringer!" His voice rings out from the machine's speakers as it assumes a ready stance.

The machine reminds you of Cybuster more than anything else, but if its glowing green elements were instead orange and if its wings were constantly burning red hot and extruding flames behind them. This is clearly a robot build for speed and aggression; it only makes sense, if its goal is to burn away the Getter Rays before they can spread. You're not sure why it resembles the Elemental Lord of Wind so closely, but you're not looking forward to fighting it; if it's even a fraction as deadly as the machine you fought alongside, the lot of you are in for the fight of your lives tonight.

Unfortunately, it appears as though a battle is inevitable, at least for tonight. The only question is what part of the battlefield demands your attention first.

[] Focus on clearing out the Karma-Noise with everyone else first; that is a distressingly large horde. Change Dragon!

A/N: Basically imagine a mix between Cybuster and the Phantom Light system from the Phantom Gundam and you have the Dawnbringer. Have fun!

Well, don't tell me you didn't ask for this.

You want speed, then I will give you something that is not only able to match it, but also something that is able to server that grudge.

Also something that may spook you even more than the getter already did.

[X] Plan: Will, Wind, Aura and courage.
-[X] change into dragon to help the girls into clearing out the Karma Noise.
--[X] Meanwhile to keep the custodian busy summon 3 of your old allies.
---[X] While you doubt you won't be pushing the generator to the limit with this, you don't have other choice but to pit him with enemies that will be able to match him in speed if it is design is anything to go by, while they won't be able to be as quick on their thinking as the real deal, cybuster and Bellvine should be able to keep the custodian in place and entertained.
----[X] They will probably try to shut down the submarine, so you need someone else to guard it while everyone else is busy, the king of braves should be more than enough for that job, Star Gaogaigar even without the brave Gai Shishou is still a machine to not be understimated, even if the hell and heaven is not as strong as it should, it is still the perfect combination of attack and defense which could tip the balance in your favor.

Update Twenty Eight - Small Struggles and Big Battle New
[X] Plan: Will, Wind, Aura and courage

You can't just ignore that horde of Karma-Noise, but you also can't let that Custodian machine run free. With that in mind, it's time for you to push the already-abused simulator to its absolute limit. As you sing your holy chant and join the other girls in transforming, you dive deep into the simulator's code and disable any remaining safeties that were still intact. You're going to need to dig deep for this; the ultimate balance of offense, defense, and speed. As you leap into the horde and face it head-on, R. Ishum finally reacts.

"Fine then, I'll start with that tainted relic of yours!" he shouts as the Dawnbringer charges towards the submarine. You can hear the panicked shouts and exclamations of the bridge crew over comms, but there's no time now; you can only hope that your preparations were enough. The mighty Dawnbringer descends upon the sub… and bounces off a Protect Wall barrier like a bird smacking into a reinforced window. The left arm of Star GaoGaiGar is swiftly followed by the rest of the black and red body, with the mane of the lion on its chest forming last; it seems that duplicating the King of Braves first was the right move. The colors of said lion look oddly washed-out compared to the original, but you'll attribute that to it being an imperfect copy.

Before Ishum can react beyond an irritated grunt, his machine is immediately tag-teamed by your other two choices for this battle. The small and nimble dark green form of the Bellvine darts above and around the Dawnbringer, avoiding its flames with great agility while raking its Aura Slash across the enemy's back. At the same time, your decision to fight fire with fire is validated as your own knock-off Cybuster engages with its Dis Cutter.

"Soulless abominations! Return to the void!" Ishum screams. With a cry of "Inferno Blade!" the Dawnbringer draws forth a flaming sword out of thin air and crosses blades with the duplicate Cybuster. While his strength and speed outmatch that of your copy, his focus leaves him vulnerable to continued assaults from the Bellvine and its glowing blade. While your copied version likely lacks the strength to open the Aura Road on its own, it can still provide one hell of a distraction.

Of course, you haven't exactly been sitting idle all this time; on the contrary, you and your friends have been quite busy clearing the field as best you can. As the songs of your hearts ring out across the battlefield, you tear one Karma-Noise in half with a Spin Cutter before blasting several into dust with a bright purple Getter Beam. Unfortunately, even with Chris raining down explosive shards and clearing out great swathes of monsters with her Giga Zeppelin and Kirika and Shirabe instantly slaying a Giant-class foe with the bizarrely-named Prohibited Fighting Beta Style: ZABABA Sun and Moon, there are simply too many foes for the lot of you to easily slay. Hibiki and Miku are no slouches either, with Miku launching her girlfriend around like a pinball off the backs of her mirror bits and Hibiki using almost every part of her body as a weapon to keep up her momentum while smashing through Karma-Noise left and right. While the six of you are making headway and will almost certainly triumph over the hordes eventually, there is no guarantee that you'll have that kind of time. You grit your teeth in frustration in between lyrics as the simulated Bellvine takes a hit to one wing that nearly takes it out of the battle entirely. Fortunately, Star GaoGaiGar is there to pick up the slack with its enormous bulk, though its need to stay in between Dawnbringer and the submarine limits its positioning and options.

Making matters even worse is that even with the simulators powered up as high as they can go, they are simply no match for the power of the human spirit. Not only is your replica Cybuster incapable of summoning the necessary power or concentration for Cosmo Nova, it would seem that your copied King of Braves cannot unleash the full might of the G-Stone and therefore cannot use Hell and Heaven properly. While you could still command the primitive AI controlling the machine to use it, it would require you to dismiss both of your other simulated machines to boost its processing power and there is still no guarantee that it would function as advertised.

As Kirika extends her scythe blade from her boot and slashes yet more Karma-Noise in two with her Wicked Leg: Gulliver, she shouts at you. "Isn't there anything else we can do?! At this rate, he's probably going to break through your clones sooner or later!"

"I'm working on it!" You shout back in between blasts from your Getter Laser Cannon. "If we can just clean up these monsters first, I think we can take him if we work as a team! We just need to get through this first!"

"Less complaining, more blasting!" Chris shouts as she pulls out her Red Hot Blaze and tries to take a shot at the Dawnbringer only for a group of Karma-Noise to spoil her aim. "Dammit!" She then takes all three of them out by swinging the enormous sniper rifle like a club, but by then the battle of the Cybuster replicas has moved across the battlefield. It's a good thing that you chose two speed-oriented machines to face Ishum; he makes that speed freak Ghuli look like a snail in comparison and it's all you can do just to try to keep an eye on him.

Shirabe has somehow gotten separated from Kirika, probably due to the sheer size of the horde of enemies before you. Luckily, she doesn't seem to be letting it get to her, instead transforming into a living blender that saws through enemies all around her with the power of her Delta Style: Charming Axel Killer. When the sheer number of Karma-Noise looks like it might be too much for her to handle, Chris promptly bails her out with a perfectly targeted Megadeth Infinity that blasts all the surrounding enemies into bits without harming her at all.

Chris's perfectly aimed bombing has also taken some of the pressure off of you as well; while your Spin Cutters have been invaluable in thinning the horde around you, the sheer numbers were starting to get to you as well. Now, however, you have some extra breathing room, which you immediately put to good use by throwing Double Tomahawk Boomerangs and bouncing your Getter Beam between them to blast several new lines through the enemy's ranks. The returning boomerangs then embed themselves in two Karma-Noise that were trying to sneak up on you from behind, disintegrating them instantly; the deck of the submarine would be knee-deep in gore by now if these things bled.

On the other side of the horde, meanwhile, Hibiki has grabbed one of Miku's mirrors in each hand and is flailing them around wildly, causing Miku's reflected blasts to fire in every conceivable direction. She appears to have adopted the strategy of "If we don't know where we're aiming, the enemy certainly won't be able to figure it out," and it seems to be working for her. Reflected purple blasts tear through Karma-Noise left, right, and center to such an absurd degree that you're briefly reminded of Kira Yamato and his array of precisely targeted beams. What Hibiki lacks in Kira's skill, she more than makes up for with sheer enthusiasm. "Take THIS and THIS and THIS!" she screams between lyrics as the two paramours' impromptu combination attack blasts a massive chunk out of the horde.

Her timing couldn't be better, as your attention is rapidly taken up by first the sound of the replica Bellvine being cleaved in half and then the notification that several fuses in the simulator have blown. It seems that you've been pushing it to its limits and beyond, which you can easily believe considering it was never designed for this sort of combat in the first place. Cybuster is still keeping pace with Dawnbringer for now, but without the assistance from the Bellvine it's clear that it won't last much longer. On the bright side, it hopefully won't have to; between you being freed up and Star GaoGaiGar still being undamaged, it's clear that Ishum won't be able to break through to the submarine or to you anytime soon. He seems to realize it as well, going by the roar of frustration echoing out of his machine.

"Damn you, Anathema! As if spreading your cancer wasn't enough, now you summon soulless dolls to do your dirty work for you?! I shall not stand for this! Perish, beast! PLASMA KNUCKLE!" Dawnbringer's right fist burns red with fiery power as he plunges it into and directly through Cybuster's torso, obliterating the damaged machine in a single blow. So much for Cybuster holding the line… and that's another fuse blown in the simulator! You're definitely going to need to boost it with Photon Power if you want to keep pulling stunts like this. In fact, that gives you a few ideas… no, bad Nine! The middle of combat is not the time for that!

Your moment of distraction costs you as Dawnbringer coats itself in flames and flanks Star GaoGaiGar with a cry of "Nova Blazer!" before smashing through and destroying both of the Phantom Boosters. StealthGao is also damaged in the collision, but Dawnbringer does not escape unscathed as a Drill Knee catches it in the left leg, badly damaging the knee joint in the process. "Damn you… fall already!" Ishum screams in frustration, but he's forced to circle around for another pass before you can catch him in the path of your Getter Beam.

"Why do they already stand with you, Anathema?!" Ishum shouts as the flames coating the Dawnbringer fade back to their regular intensity. "You could not possibly have influenced so many warriors so quickly… so why? What have you done?"

"What have I done?" You shout back incredulously. "I've been their friend, that's what I've done! I've extended my hand to them and held theirs in turn! Whatever influence you think the Getter Rays have here, they're not what pushed me to make new friends, or to rise to their defense!" You try not to think too much on the increasing influence that the Getter Rays may end up having on your personality; at the very least, you know that what you've said tonight is true. "The only one forcing this to be a battle is you; just talk to us and I'm sure we can sort this out!"

The girls are almost done cleaning up the horde of Karma-Noise and will be free to join in soon; unfortunately, that leaves one crucial moment where it's just you and the replicated King of Braves against Dawnbringer. A good hit with Plasma Hold would stop him in his tracks, but landing that hit in the first place would be much easier said than done. Your mind races with possible courses of action, knowing that Repli-GaoGaiGar won't last much longer at this rate. If only you had more time, but you'll work with what you have.

[] You've been deliberately avoiding trying this so far, but maybe it's time to risk it. "Getter SHINE!"

[] Get into Repli-GaoGaiGar's right hand and have it launch you at Dawnbringer as part of a Broken Magnum. You need to close the speed gap somehow!

[] Fly in front of the sub yourself and make him come to you; it'll hurt, but he won't be able to avoid melee range as long as Protect Shade can block his ranged attacks.
