Anyway, new chapter, a bridge between Glass Scenery Arc and Two Clubs Arc ...

Intermezzo: The Long Awaited Sleepovers and The Time is only Boundary...

Hajime took the bowl of sake from a Shanghai who was with many sisters working as the waitresses during the last summer day party. He was only half listening to Hieda and Kosuzu discussing this summer's events. He spoke with Reimu and Aya about the Scarlet Weather and he lived through the Forgiveness Bloom. He still felt bad about the pain, he caused to Tsugumi, but also relieved. For the first time he was free. 'Ayumi,' he silently promised, 'when I saw you again, I will beg you for the forgiveness myself. You didn't do anything wrong, it was all my fault.'

"Good words," soft regal voice interrupted his musing. He turned and saw the Yama standing near him with a female he didn't saw before but he guessed was her employee Komachi, the shinigami. The Yama was slightly smiling, she seemed almost peaceful and soft doing it. "Don't forget your promise, and you will find the salvation for sure." She then turned to her left and addressed someone invisible "Yukari-sama, I see you managed to come at least."

A Gap opened from which Yukari stepped out with Reimu in tow. "I was able to solve the misunderstanding easily enough, isn't it right, Reimu?"

"You aren't from the hook still, Yukari," Reimu grumbled. "And why Suika?"

"Because she was a famous architect before she was send to hell by her jealous concurrent," Yukari explained. "She was also the one who build the Palace of Earth in the Old Hell when she took on the manacles of Oni."

"There is someone, who was send to Hell by Jigoku Tsuushin, running around the Gensokyo?" Hajime asked perplexed.

"There are many like her," Yukari answered. "What do you thought happened to the innocent send to Hell? Most of them are given the choice to enter the Hell God's employment. They will loose their humanity, true, but it's still better than the alternative. They all wore manacles as their sign of their status as servants or in Suika's and her friend's case as the token of their former status. After the centuries of their work the Hell God released bunch of Oni from his employment when he build for himself and the Damned new hell on the other side of the Sanzu river."

"Suika is a good girl," Reimu took over. "She is constantly drunk, and loves good fight as much as a good party, but she is lovely and strangely innocent. I didn't know about her being the Hell's famous Architect."

"She even built the New Hell's public buildings as well. The Spider and Yama entered with her in a contract for that," Shikieiki Yamaxanadu told them with a sigh. "The prize was for us to give her free pass to go wherever she wanted. She can even settle in a Heaven if she so choose, but as an Oni she will probably find the Heavens somewhat boring."

"Oh, Yukari," Reimu turned to the most powerful Youkai in Gensokyo, "tell our new citizens that I will watch over them as a hawk. When they cause an Incident, I will be there."

"Didn't you want to say, 'If they cause an Incident,' Reimu-san?" Hajime wondered. All women around him, even Kosuzu, burst out laughing.

"I did meant When," Reimu told him.

"Why?" he was truly confused by the mirth of all others.

"Because they are Youkai!" all women told him at once laughing. "Causing at least one Incident is normal for us/them."

"Even Komachi here is responsible for one," Shikieiki told him to embarrass her employee. "Her laziness cause once in a while spiritual equivalent of traffic jam." He gave Komachi her patented disappointed look.

Komachi didn't looked too ashamed tough. "I'm not responsible for the annual sexagenary death peak between humans. I worked as normally, even more so but it was beyond me."

'I'm not drunk enough for them to make sense,' Hajime sighed to himself and helped himself to new sake. He looked out and was perplexed. 'It's snowing there? In the Summer?'

***

Meanwhile in Tsugumi's room she and the younger girls plus Mystia giggled over prank retelling from Chen. She told them about the one time Cirno managed to smuggle several frozen Faeries past the Small Barrier, a ward that covers the Human Village against such penetrations. Unluckily, it then didn't cover the hill above the village and the frozen Faeries didn't count as 'living' according the Wards. So the 'Iceballs' - nine if she told the truth - each containing one Greater Fairy, were thrown by Cirno and her companion Wriggle down the hill and ended in the center of the village. When the ice melted the Faeries wrecked havoc through the village for month before Reimu managed to capture all of them and threw them out of the wards personally. She was annoyed because the 'Great Fairies Hunt' took her too much time for such nuisance. She did kill Cirno for it - it took the Ice Fairy two weeks to recover - and Wriggle ended with sever beating as well. Reimu also forced her and Mystia, who was innocent in this, to help with the cleanup of the village. Reimu also remodeled the Small Barrier to include the hill, so no one will repeat Cirno's ingenious prank, and bullied Mystia into responsibility of the 'Nineballs', like the infamous duo was called from then, and the Night Sparrow ended as an older cool sister to those troublemakers.

"That was the start of our group," Chen ended the story. "Strangely one of the Fairies, that Cirno managed to include in her prank, shoved later, and she accompanies Cirno ever since. She didn't have name then so Wriggle and Mystia simply called her Daiyousei, Greater Fairy, and it stuck. Everyone calls her that, even Reimu-san and Yukari-sama. She later introduced Rumia to the group. This was during the Scarlet Devil Mansion Incident or Red Mist Incident like some people called it. Rumia is freaky sometimes, and she attacked Reimu-san and wanted to eat her. She was promptly shot down by her and Daiyousei found her knocked out shortly after she and Cirno were beaten as well when trying to take revenge for the previous beating." Chen and Mystia giggled remembering all the times Cirno tried to take revenge for something that was mostly her own doing, and ended beaten again or forced to run away. Ability to learn from past mistakes wasn't Cirno's, Daiyousei's or Rumia's strongest trait.

"I met them through Mystia here recently when I ran some errands for Ran-sama in the Human Village. When I stopped at her stand to buy some lampreys to eat - they are delicious, and when you end in the village sometime you should try them - Wriggle was there, persuading Mystia to go with them 'treasure hunting' in Mayohiga. I ended on the run with them, and it was fun. I'm their occasional associate and the 'Honourable Nineball' ever since."

"Can you told us about the Treasure Hunt please,Chen?" Nina was curious.

"Maybe sometime latter," Mystia interrupted them. "Now, please, could you turn the lights down, Nina-cha, and come here?" she motioned to the window. "I have a surprise for you."

The girls moved to the small balcony the suite was equipped with, and Nina turned the lamps of with her magic. "Ah," Tsugumi was left speechless with the spectacle in front of them. Thousands of fireflies formed the most intriguing light show in the dark of the summer's moonless night. It even surpassed the spectacle of Danmaku battles Tsugumi occasionally witnessed from Shibata's first day in Gensokyo. "That's beautiful," she heard Nina whisper while Odoriko's music picked up, and was now joyous and full of wonder, magnifying the fairytale atmosphere of the night show. Then it started to snow! In the summer! The snowflakes were unnaturally cold but as beautiful as the firefly's lights.

"This is our gift for you, Tsugumi-chan, so you will not forget Gensokyo," Mystia told them. "Behold the power of the Nineballs," she gestured to the three larger lights flying above them in an intriguing pattern.

"That's Cirno!" Chen pointed the rainbow light ball caused by refraction of star- and firefly's light through the ice shards around the Ice Fairy. "And Dai-chan!" she pointed to the gold and green light of the Fairy circling around Cirno. Tsugumi learned latter that she was turning the shards into snowflakes and then used her wind-based magic to sprinkle the sanatorium with it. "And there is Wriggle! Right in the midst of the fireflies!" Chen pointed the largest and brightest of the night bugs that was leading and organizing the aerial ballet. Of course, with Nineballs being Nineballs that was when it went all wrong. And it was Chen's mistake this time. "Guys!" she shrieked as loudly as she could. "Wriggle! Down here! Heey!"

Wriggle, as she latter told them, heard the Nekomata's shooting, looked for her, and lost control over the firefly's swarm. The swarm went in wrong direction, and collided with the cold air around Cirno. The girls down shrieked in alarm when it started to rain half frozen bugs. This startled Daiyousei who collided with Cirno herself, and the Greater Faerie landed with heavy 'thud' in the midst of the parking lot encased in ice and completely frozen. Startled Cirno lost control of her power freezing most of the remaining fireflies, and ended in shooting and impromptus Danmaku duel with the Firefly Youkai. Even with her Spellcards being flawed, even from Tsugumi's perspective, she somehow won against more elegant Spellcards Wriggle used.

"You saw?" Cirno bragged when she dragged her annoyed friend down to them. "I won again! I'm the strongest!" It seamed she completely forgot or never mind their show being interrupted. "Chen, you Baka!" Wriggle grumbled. "You startled me!"

"Sorry," Chen looked down embarrassed, and was looking so cute even Wriggle couldn't stay mad at her for long. "I wasn't thinking. Please, forgive me!" she bowed to Wriggle and Cirno.

"Eh?" Cirno looked confused. "What for?"

Mystia and Wriggle face-palmed. Cirno wasn't exactly dumb but her attention span was low even for a Fairy. She forgot or didn't noticed things others wouldn't. Cirno was lucky Daiyousei was much better in this regard than most others Faeries. Tsugumi and the other girls giggled, observing Chen's and her friend's antics.

"Wouldn't it be better to take it inside?" Tsugumi asked. "It's cold here out." She shivered slightly.

"Sorry for that," Mystia apologized. "Cirno, could you please turn your power of for the time?" she turned to the Fairy.

"Eh? Sorry, I forgot," Cirno squeezed her face in concentration, and the cold waned. "It would be better to have some source of heat. I can't hold my power back for long. I'm too strong!"

Nina blinked and then told them "Come with me. There is a grate in the large lounge across your room, Tsugumi-chan. The fire should be lit by now."

"So, lets go," Cirno sounded relieved and turned to go inside.

"Wait!" Tsugumi stopped them again. "What about her?" she pointed to the block of the ice in the midst of the parking lot.

"Eh?" Wriggle and the rest of the Nineballs turned to the frozen Fairy. "Dai-chan!" Chen and Mystia flew down.

"She will be alright," Cirno shrugged while from the dark several loud thuds and crunches sounded. "I'm alright," somewhat shaky and uneasy but sweet and kind voice could be heard. "See," Cirno turned back and ushered the girls inside. "Hurry into the warm,so I can stop to repress myself, please!" So Nina led them through Tsugumi's room and across the passage into much larger and opulent room with a small lounge with lit fire that was making it too hot. Cirno sighed in relief, and the hot air in the room quickly cooled to pleasantly warm. Cirno seated herself as far as possible from the fire while the other girls sat near the fire on the provided pillows, and took the provided hot chocolate. They were joined by Chen, Mystia and girl with gold wings and green hair who was shivering violently and looked half drowned.

"Are you really alright, Dai-chan?" Wriggle asked.

"I will be," she took a mug of the hot chocolate. "At least today you didn't forget to thaw me, and thanks Gods for the chocolate!"

"That was amazing!" Tsugumi, now relieved that Daiyousei was obviously alright, remembered the show Chen's friends put for her and the other girls.

"It was truly something!" Nina was almost as excited as Tsugumi.

(In the background Cirno turned her mug of hot chocolate into frozen chocolate, and was wondering how to get the now hard mass of sugar and cocoa from the mug).

"Sorry for the mishap in the end," Mystia apologize. "I wanted to show you, what we sometimes do at festivals or such. I didn't think Chen and Wriggle will end jumbling it in the end!" she gave those two her best disappointed look.

"It's alright!" Odoriko dismissed the apology with Nina and Tsugumi nodding. "It was honest accident, and the show was beautiful. I wonder if we could try to combine it with my magic sometime," she sounded pensive and eager.

"The snow was nice touch," Chen smiled at a blushing Daiyousei. "I didn't know you and Cirno could combine your powers in such manner."

"I heard about your Talent Tsugumi-chan," Wriggle turned to the only human in the room. "I didn't met a Seer in my life. Can you see, what will we be doing in five months? And by we, I mean those who are here in this room?"

"I don't know," Tsugumi sounded unsure. "Alice-san and Yukari-sama warned me to not Look too far ahead, and certainly not without supervision."

"Please, pretty please," Wriggle sounded eager. "It will be alright, I'm sure. And besides we have Mystia and Chen here. They can make sure you are alright."

("Can I know where Rumia-chan is?" Chen asked Daiyousei meanwhile.

"Mystia told us, it would be better to not take her with us today. With Tsugumi-chan being human and Rumia being Rumia..." Daiyousei explained.

"Ah," Chen nodded in understanding. Cirno created utensils from ice, was able to get the chocolate ice out, and was eating it with delight.)

"Well if you think it's alright, Mystia-san?" Tsugumi asked the eldest looking Youkai in the room. Mystia, unsure but as intrigued as Wriggle, nodded after short while. "Nina-chan, could you bring here the equipment Alice-san get for me?"

Nina blinked, and after short while something landed with dull thud on the large table in the lounge. When they turned to it the equipment was laying on it. Tsugumi stood up, and started to prepare herself for the experiment. If Chen wouldn't be distracted by Cirno making mess of her chocolate and Daiyousei still not being fully recovered, she would stop Tsugumi on the spot. What she was doing was extremely dangerous and forbidden. Seeing into future was even for the most experienced Seers deadly risk. Future isn't carved in stone, and Seer will see EVERY possible futures. Also the 'everyone in the room' definition was too broad. The amount of data for the possible futures were compounded by every being in the room. So you ended with amount data compounded by ten. Almost no one could survive this. Tsugumi had the luck to be too inexperienced - most of the informations went through her mind unnoticed, and she lately didn't recalled anything she Saw.

"Tsugumi?" Chen saw too late what was happening. "What? O, sh*t!"

It was too late to stop her. Tsugumi was in a Trance by now, and interrupting her will badly hurt her. Chen could only hope for the best. She and others gathered around the young Seer, providing her with the focus and magic she needed unknowingly. Burst of Divine energy erupted from Tsugumi without hurting anyone in the room when the Gods of Time heard Tsugumi's plea, and provided her with what she wanted.

"I See... I see myself talking with a girl I don't know. Is she truly called Imouto (younger sister)?" Tsugumi was bleeding from her nose now.
"I See... I see Wriggle. Cirno snowman. Pretty ..." she giggled. "I see Wriggle fighting a ghost?" she spat out blood but didn't pay attention to it.
"I See... I see Chen. A Geyser erupted from the ground? The snow is melting. The Rainbow is pretty." she blinked away the bloody tears.
"I See... I see Nina-chan and Odoriko-chan. They drink chocolate. Someone is with them. Don't know the Horned girl..." she spat another blob of blood.
"I See... I see Mystia-san. Lamprey stand? That's how you make money? There is a Cat, another one than Chen. Red hair. Warning. About fire blazing again. What?"
"I See... Cirno. So many Cirnos, so chaotic... Fighting, playing. The damned Faeries of Light. How you could lost Dai-chan again? All the time she was searching for you and you are at home," she was bleeding from her ears as well.
"I SEE... Goddess? Who is she? The North High... The frozen mansion. The Goddess powerless? The Goddess powerful? She welcoming opening of a Gap? Why is the Gap green? Are those electronic circuits? Not Yukari with a snow girl. Time is only Boundary..." Tsugumi fainted, leaving the bewildered Youkai to take care of her, Chen frantically casting every healing spell she knew...

So right now the Nineballs were the only one who KNEW about the dangers the Future will bring.

***

(Somewhere. Time unknown)

"So you think we can see the Lost Ones, Merry?"

"It should be really easy. The theory of United Fields tell us the Time is discrete, not continuous. And all discrete variables has boundaries. So Time is only another set of Boundaries, Renko-chan. And I See. I See the Age of Wonders clearly with this understanding. The Books are the false Moons, the distorted reflections. Find me one perfect, one True and I will Dream a Path to the time the Last Gods walked the world. Find me such book, Renko Usami, and you have the focus you physicists are searching for so long."

"The Sealing Club. Another success!"

The End of the Glass Scenery Arc. The Two Clubs Arc starts now!

Also Nitewind can't continue as my betareader and if someone would be so kind write me to my Inbox. Pretty, pretty please?

So... are you going with the theory that Maribel and Yukari are the same person

So to answer your question. It is much more complicated then this. I gave you hints in my earlier chapter when Yukari told to Nina and Odoriko
"I'm Yukari, the Youkai of the Borders, the Dreamer who dreamed about the World, and the Dream who became real. I'm one side of a coin, the other is a mage dreaming about Gensokyo who isn't even born yet. I created that haven for beings like us - the Land of Dreams Gensokyo..."

The red citations are what you should take as my headcanon. Warning, spoilers ahead!

Yukari is to Maribel what Yasumi Watahashi is to Haruhi Suzumiya. She is part of her Creator but is not exactly her. But Maribel can also be taken as a creation of Yukari! Those two exists as a part of a whole but independently. So she isn't Maribel but Maribel is known to her, even if she knows only little about her. They also met - in Yukari's past and current Maribel's future. And no, Yukari didn't met Renko - yet. But this will change, in this story at least.

Chapter 9: Meetings, talks and other unimportant happenings

Chen was right that Yukari-sama wouldn't be happy with the Nineballs and Tsugumi about the impromptu divination session. For once Cirno and Dai-chan were excused from the 'lecture' the others were given. While Tsugumi was forced to do quick reassessment of her Talent Yukari used Mystia and Wriggle as sparing partners while teaching Nina and Odoriko Danmaku which meant they were beaten severely. Not that Nina or Odoriko escaped from a long lecture why it is bad idea to use the 'lethal' Talent of Prediction. Chen herself was grounded by Ran, and given many long and boring texts to study so she will not do such mistake herself - her Talents have such lethal traps as well.

Tsugumi herself found that her Talent did change - she gained Psychometry, ability to read the past and sometimes future of objects (inanimate in her case thankfully), but the ability was uncontrollable and almost always on. Even her own clothes gave her nasty shocks with unwanted recollections because they were all second hand sans her underwear. Yukari ordered Mystia to gave her money and she herself bought for Tsugumi new clothes never worn by anyone completely with gloves. Yukari also recommended to start her lessons with the Seer in the Outerworld immediately. So the Shibatas left Gensokyo for their home, only to relocate to city where the Seer lived, the same city where they first met Chen.

***

(one week later, Shibatas)

"My name is Tsugumi Shibata. My father relocated here to write a book about Japanese Urban myths and the Hyougo prefecture legends. I started the second grade class at *** Elementary in Shibuya this year. Please, take care of me." the girl with two braids bowed in front of her new classmates. The Uegahara Elementary was typical public school, meaning five classes per year for twenty-eight children each. Her new class was called 2-4, and Tsugumi took the place of a boy whose parents relocated to Kobe, and he changed school so to not be forced to commute.
**
Maioko Yoshimura was curious about her new classmate. Like her older sister she too was interested in movies albeit romantic, and also into myths and legends. The new student intrigued her. "Hi," she greeted Tsugumi during the lunch break. "Can I sit here?"

Tsugumi glanced to the pretty, cheerful girl, and decided that this could be the opportunity to make new friends. She lost those she made the previous year at her old school due to her visions, and the few acquaintances left due to the move. She made friends with Chen and the sanatorium youkai but knew her chance to see them soon was low. Besides they live in pace different to humans. Tsugumi was surprised that Chen was Nekomata thirty years old when she appeared to be fourteen or that Cirno was eternal child while more then seventy years old. So she needed human friends. "Hi. Of course you can sit here," she allowed. "You knew my name," she started after they ate in silence for a while. "But can I have yours?"

"Of course!" Maioko beamed at her. "My name is Maioko. I was born here, and have an older sister. My hobbies are music, romantic films, old legends and magic. I don't like scary things tough."

"I'm an only child. I live with Hajime-chan, my father because my mum died when I was very little. I like writing, cooking and singing. I don't like selfish people," Tsugumi introduced herself to Maioko more in depths. "Say, Maioko-san, what music do you like?"

Unbeknown to the girls the Fate, changed by the curse of the Mountain Sage, took its previous course. They became friends that would stay by each other side for years to come.

***

(Mayohiga, the Yakumo Mansion, the same evening)

"Ran-sama! I'm done, Ran-sama!" Chen rushed to her Master. "I read through the scrolls about Necromancy, like Yukari-sama wanted! Here, look! I wrote the essay as well! Can I go, and play with the cats?"

Ran sighed looking up from her own work. She was preparing tea while creating new spell card. "Maybe later, Chen," he answered the Nekomata's plea. "Yukari-sama wants go with you through the Tsugumi's Prophecies. You wrote them down, didn't you?"

"I hoped, it will wait till tomorrow," Chen pouted. "I wrote them down although I didn't truly understand them." Chen then run back to her room to get the scroll. Ran could only sigh again.

"Good evening," Ran's Master Yukari Yakumo emerged from her own room. She helped herself to a cup of tea and some cookies. "Where is Chen?"

"She," Ran paused when Chen run back with her scroll, and added lamely "is here."

"Ah, so you have the Prophecy written down," Yukari smiled slightly. While not happy with Tsugumi being endangered through her carelessness, she was more than ready to use the genuine advantage this gave her.

"Hm. Evil Ghosts, geyser, red cat, fire blazing again, Suika" she wrote in pentagram. "Cirno, Faeries of Light, Dai-chan," she wrote in another triangle shape. "Gensokyo," she wrote above them, "this winter Incidents?" She added Mystia between red cat and blazing, and Wriggle to the evil ghosts.
"Isn't Wriggle living in the forest near the Hakurei temple?" she asked Chen. When the cat nodded she turned to Ran, who gave her a map of the area between the temple, the Forest of Magic and the Bamboo forest. The only interesting part here was the sealed entrance to the abandoned hell. Yukari carefully entered in the positions of Wriggles home and the Mystia's lamprey stand. They were all near. She didn't bother with the Faeries - they all lived around the Misty Lake away from Mystia and Wriggle. She then connected the geyser with blazing fire, and red cat with evil ghosts. She wrote the term Kasha and connected it with the red cat. "Who will be the initiator though?" she mused. "This didn't seem to be Satori's style. She is too direct for such mess."

"Trouble with Old Hell?" Ran asked her Master. "Shouldn't we warn Satori then if you are sure it will not be her work?"

"Hm," Yukari pondered on it but then sighed. "Better we wait for a bit. We want to expose the true culprits. For now, there is too much of white noise. No one of those covered by the Prophecy are connected to them." She then shrugged. "Now for the second part. This is much more troubling." She wrote down 'The Goddess, Attack on the Goddess to steal her power to rewrite the world, Neotechnological Gap, Non-Yukari.' She encircled the non-Yukari and underlined the word, hard. "My counterpart is planning something dangerous. I need better timing of it. It's typical for her to come when I'm weakest. And what Goddess she will seek out? The Moryias finally took my offer and relocated to Gensokyo, and their power was waning anyway. There are some Greater Gods but they are unapproachable and the minor Goddesses like the Rain Goddess will be long forgotten to her."

"There is someone who could be the Goddess Tsugumi-chan Saw," Chen inserted herself into Yukari's monologue. "I almost forgot about her, what with the Hell Girl and such, but she lives in the city Tsugumi-chan moved recently. And she saw herself as a witness of those events."

"Tell me more," Yukari ordered Chen. And the Nekomata told her about the Goddess who thinks about herself as a human, her own Shikigami, her miko who used her power against her Goddess, the out of the time girl, and the strange being that only pretended to be human.

"People always need something to fear and believe," Yukari mused. "She isn't really a Goddess although she has the power of one. She is the Creator of Gods. She is like my counterpart - the being you saw and didn't recognise must be her version of Youkai, something people wouldn't have trouble believing into and will fear if they know she exists."

Yukari opened a Gap and from the other end man's voice protested "Do you know how late it is? I was planning to go to bed, you know?"

"Stop complaining Rinnosuke," Yukari interrupted him. "And no, it will not wait to tomorrow. You read the books people lost, the comics and manga. Say, what could people fear that's not a human and not a youkai?"

"What are you?" the shopkeeper murmured "The giant robots? Extra-terrestrials? The Monsters from the outer space?"

"She pretends to be human," Yukari clarified further. "She seamed to hang around someone interesting and is passive."

"The Pretender then," Rinnosuke stated. "Android created by some powerful extra-terrestrial to infiltrate humanity to study and observe with more or less pure intentions. If they are truly good, she will be exact copy of normal human, but she will have powers normal humans don't have - physical and even what you would call magic. But most such beings are flawed - their masters don't really understand humans so something about their behaviour will be off."

"Thank you Rinnosuke," Yukari then closed the Gap. "So that's what's going on. New Gods will be born between the stars. They are born, I should say. And my counterpart, my Creator who dreamed about the uncomplicated magic again is coming to meet Creator of Star Gods. What a border."

Chapter 10: Two Clubs

(With the SOS-Dan, forests south from the city)

"I told you, Haruhi, that the rumour about the Lost Sanatorium is only that - a rumour. How could a sanatorium, building that was supposed to be able to host hundred of patients and guests vanish? That building was supposed to be large, so even if someone destroyed it, there should be some debris left at least. We looked around the forest all day and there is not even a glade here - only spruces and pines. Not one birch tree even. Wasn't the sanatorium supposed to be surrounded by birch grove?" the girl, known to everyone but her parents as Kyonko, complained. 'I hope that this hoax isn't as the one about Sanae-san from class 3B. That was a disaster.' she glanced at Yuki, their resident alien and expert in strange powers and odd occurrences. 'So far so good. Still reading whatever she brought with herself to this pointless outing.'

"Maybe the sanatorium was stolen by aliens?" Haruhi Suzumyia the leader of the SOS-Dan, club she created by shanghaiing Kyonko and the others and stealing the Literature club's room, mused.

'Through one ear in and the other out,' Kyonko sighed for herself. "With an entire forest? What will they need an abandoned sanatorium for?" 'Did Yuki almost giggle right now?'

"Now, now, Kyonko," optimistic and always cheerful voice interrupted the starting argument between Haruhi and her first underling slash friend. "I think, there is a perfect explanation for the 'spiriting of the sanatorium away'. Like an experiment of a secret government agency. The Americans managed to lose a cruiser this way. I read about it once. So why shouldn't be Japan able to misplace entire building?"

'Don't you encourage her.' "Bah, agencies aren't that powerful," Kyonko dismissed the theory. 'I hope. And are you winking at me, Koizumi?'

"Besides, the 'spiriting away' phenomenon is known for centuries," Yuki Nagato decided to show her wast knowledge. "It was believed to be the work of spirits and Youkai. Places, things and people will vanish, seldom turning back again. If people returned they will have no memory of where they were and how long they were missing. Only recently the aliens are blamed for it. I don't see any logic in it. There is no reason given why the extraterrestrials should do it. There are no informations the so called experimenting could provide to them they couldn't obtain by simple observation and study of local literature and science. That is if they even have a reason to study such common occurrence as an organic life."

'Nicely put, Yuki. I would even believe you, if not for the nut-job Asakura and the fact EVERYONE has a good reason to study the Earth - the one and only Haruhi Suzumiya.' Kyonko then turned to the last member of Haruhi's band of misfits. The poor city girl Asahina Mikuru was at her last leg. She was gasping for air and was limping thanks to her shoes not being suited for hiking. She wasn't carrying her own backpack - Haruhi forced Kyonko to do it for her when it became apparent the lovely but physically weak girl was only holding them back. Luckily her backpack was light - she didn't have much things there to begin with - so it didn't added much of additional weight to her already heavy backpack, what with Haruhi using her underling as a pack-mule to carry their camping gear and food. Haruhi didn't see any reason to not use the weekend for searching for her 'mystery' and also to camp and have a picnic in the forested area she choose randomly for her search.

"Shouldn't we stop for night now?" Kyonko asked irritated by Haruhi neglecting her exhausted friend/mascot/dress doll. "Asahina-san is exhausted, and I don't think she will be able to continue much longer."

"Huh?" Haruhi, who was expecting others to be as fit as she was, only now noticed Mikuru's condition. "Why didn't you said something sooner, Mikuru-chan?"

"I'm alright," the exhausted girl weakly protested. "Really."

"You aren't," Haruhi stated in an uncommon moment of empathy. "Sadly we have to continue for a while yet. The camping ground should be seven kilometres that way." She then eyed Kyonko speculatively.

"Oh no, you wouldn't," Kyonko started protesting.

"You know, Kyonko, you made a good point," Haruhi beamed at the irritated girl. "So you will carry Mikuru-chan from here to the camp. We can't her collapse, do we?"

'You will,' Kyonko then started to complain. "But Haruhi, I carry all the equipment and food already. I do want help Asahina-san but I have to much to carry as it is!"

"Hurry up, Kyonko, and follow me! And no slacking, or the heads will roll!" Haruhi decided to not listen to the only voice of reason among her Dan again.

"At least take some of our equipment and carry it yourself!" Kyonko tried in vain.

"Huh?" Haruhi blinked then smiled mischievously at her first underling. "But I'm the Ultrachief. What would it say about me, if I would do such beneath me tasks while I have my brigade around?"

'That you have some decency?'

"I can trade Kyonko-chan's baggage for mine," Itsuko Koizumi volunteered with a smile. "I think my bag and Asahina-san are not much heavier then our camping supplies."

"But you are carrying the important equipment. I can't let Kyonko or Mikuru-chan be responsible for them! They will certainly damage something, as clumsy as they are," Haruhi dismissed the idea. "You are my second in command, and are responsible enough to not mess up such important task. So continue to do so! And no Yuki. You are almost as frail as Mikuru-chan. You know what? I will carry you as well. This way we will be at the camp sooner!"

'As always, Haruhi-logic strikes again,' Kyonko rolled her eyes and took down her heavy backpack.

"I'm sorry, Kyonko-chan," Mikuru with a blush apologised. "I should try more."

"That's alright," Kyonko sighed. She blushed when Mikuru, now weighed down with all their camping equipment and her original backpack, climbed on her back. 'Soft...' She then hurried after her other friends as quickly as possible.

***

"So here we are," Haruhi stated excitedly. The campsite was a small cleaning with old picnic tables with a small stream. "Hurry up, Kyonko, and start to build the tents!"

"Guh," Kyonko, now free from Mikuru's and their backpack's weight collapsed. "Don't wanna! Have no strength."

"Are you all right, Kyonko-chan?" Mikuru asked her gently.

"Kyonko! Don't lay there, you lazy girl!" Haruhi stepped to them. "Don't tell me, you are exhausted! I carried Yuki as long as you carried Mikuru, and I'm fine. So go up, and build the tents while I prepare the food or heads will roll!"

"That's fine, Haruhi," Kyonko groaned, "as long as I can stay here."

"If you allow me, Suzumiya-san," Itsuko with a smile intervened. "I think, I should build the tents. I in fact insist in doing so, while you and Mikuru prepare the food."

"Hm, if you are certain, Itsuko?" Haruhi shrugged. "Lazy Kyonko, you will pay the penance later! The first meal after we returned to the city is on you!"

"Thanks, Haruhi," Kyonko rolled her eyes again. "And thanks, Koizumi. You are a live saver. Can you leave a water bottle with me, please?"

"It was my pleasure, Kyonko-chan," Itsuko blew her a kiss, winked and then departed to build their tents.

Kyonko wasn't sure with whom she will be safer in one of the two-person tents (Haruhi as an 'Ultrachief' had the one-person tent for herself). While Nagato was safe, the same couldn't be said about the 'overly friendly' Koizumi and moe beautiful Asahina - both would make sleeping in one tent with them embarrassing, although from different reasons. 'Well, here goes nothing,' she relaxed for a while. She knew Haruhi will be back on her case, demanding Kyonko's attention as soon as the dinner was ready. 'I truly hope we will NOT find anything, but I know better. So whoever listen to my plea, don't let Haruhi find the truth. I like the world as it is now, and not the twisted nightmare it will become if Haruhi let her imagination run wild.'

(Somewhen in the not so distant future, University of United Science, Grand Tokyo, Gakuentoshi, the Small Library, the Shīringukurabu's - Sealing Club's - headquarter)

"What are you watching, Merry?" the young Japanese woman asked her European friend.

"A rare copy of the Asahina Mikuru Adventure 00 film," Maribel Hearn answered her friend, the only other member of the infamous Sealing Club, Renko Usami.

"Is it a good film?" Renko asked.

"It has no plot what so ever, and the film is a collage of amateurish video shots with little order or sense," Maribel didn't however stop watching the old 2D video. "It's Her first film after all. You know that She meddled with many fields of human culture from films over the music to physic. She was, and still is, an inspiration to Japanese scientists and artists. Sadly only fragments of Her original works survived. Only mentions and reviews are left of such works as Shadows of Nishinomyia, Tragedy of the Great War or Kyonko of the Past. Her science theories could revolutionise our view of the world - if they didn't went lost. She is the one who wrote the original equation of the United Science Theory that brought together physics and mathematics to explain how space and time works - when she was sixteen! Her then ten year old neighbour with photogenic memory and genius mathematician of his own used the equation to formulate the theory when he grew up. In his memoirs he wrote that She created equations so complex latter in Her life, he himself had trouble to understand them. He also wrote that 'certain powers' made him destroy the copies of the equations he had. Supposedly because anyone able to use them will be able to change the reality itself. He wrote that he witnessed such case - a friend of his, whose name wasn't preserved, an 'ordinary girl' according to him, was able to bring dead to life with them, saving her sister this way, and the world as well."

Maribel then sipped from her glass of water, giggled, and continued "Fascinating about it is, that She didn't need the Equations. They are only Her way to describe how her powers worked. In her film here, She was able to erase the boundaries between Her dreams and the reality. And in the end she as effortlessly raised them back."

"How could you tell?" Renko asked.

"I told you that I can see the Boundaries. Every time, everywhere. Even through mirrors like this video. There are things recorded here that should not exist. Some minor - like the white pigeons or sakura trees blooming in autumn. Some not so much - like lasers shooting from girls eye, tornado summoned in the same manner or the talking cat. And as I told you, I can't see the Boundary between the 'real world' and the dreams in the film. For the time the film was shot, the dreams were real - all dreams, everywhere in the world."

"But," Renko tried to imagine the chaos this could cause. "How did the world survived?"

"Another part of her power made sure the dreams were more or less benign," Maribel answered her. "That didn't mean there weren't disasters or deaths caused by them, but they were relatively few. And they were all erased when she recreated the Boundary - even retrospectively. Even the events recorded in the film didn't really happened, at least not how they were recorded. The film is the only thing that survived from that World of Dreams. Although it is theoretically possible the memories of those playing in the film or recording it were the second part that survived. If we found a book that contains such memories we will have our mirror, and we will be able to go to the time Dreams were real. And the Boundary of Time will be opened to the humans, making the time travel possible."

(to be continued)

The plot thickens again. Gensokyo, World of Haruhi, Hell and the Future World are all heading for a collision. Will they survive intact? And what role will Renko play in it?

Chapter 11: The Dream starts - The Adventure of Mikuru Asahina 00 aka The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya

'Let's see. You saw the midnight film yesterday when you couldn't sleep, and thought *I can do better than that crap everyday!* And we are now stuck with this madness,' Kyonko was musing about the last 'project' their (in)famous leader came with. Presenting themselves at the school festival wasn't in theory bad idea, although entire school knew (and carefully ignored) Haruhi's madhouse disguised as a (non-confirmed) school club. Officially they were all members of the Literature club led by Yuki Nagato, but in reality they were Haruhi's personal fiefdom she ruled with iron fist. Haruhi's whims forced Kyonko to face such things like the Cave Cricket, giant ghostly snake youkai, Shinjins and end of the world so far. Now she came with the idea to shoot their own film. And with the others not protesting (Yuki, Mikuru) or thinking about it as a good idea (Itsuko) it fell to Kyonko to try to get Haruhi be reasonable. "What about the equipment? You do know, we need at least a camera and the films not to count about other things like the requisites."

"You worry too much, Kyonko," Haruhi dismissed her with a smile. "I have a plan, you know! So hurry up, and lets go!"

"Where?" Kyonko asked not liking her grin one bit.

"To the shopping district for now! And then to see some places I want you to take shots of!" Haruhi motioned to them. "Oh, and Mikuru-chan, you should go as you are now."

"WHAAT," Kyonko protested while the poor mascot girl whimpered. "What are you planning, selling her for money?"

"Of course not," Haruhi was annoyed with Kyonko's lack of imagination. "Mikuru-chan is a vital asset of the SOS-Dan. I would not consider to sell her!" 'Although I'm sometimes thinking about selling you,' she thought, 'but even as good looking as you are with your attitude no one will buy you, unfortunately.' "Hurry up, and stop stalling, Kyonko!"

***

'The stall owners at the city's market district are all hardworking, reasonable people who aren't inclined to trust random strangers. They have to, or they will not make the money they do,' Kyonko mused. 'So why could Haruhi beguile them so easily?' So far she was able to get them a perfectly working video camera in exchange for some shots of the electronics store and toy guns for some more shots of the new toy store. Kyonko did some math and came with quite large sum of money. 'How she persuaded them that it will bring them more business is beyond me.'

The SOS-Dan was now in the public park taking the first shots of the 'Adventure of Mikuru Asahina 00'. The poor girl was forced into another ridiculous costume - this time as a 'battle waitress, a magical girl from the future'. The members of the SOS-Dan were by now accustomed to the strange looks and snide whispers from the casual passers-by and ignored them as well as their 'Ultradirector'.

"Mi-, Mi- Mikuru Beam," the on the verge of a breakdown Mikuru shouted, posing for Kyonko to take the best shot. As soon as she cried that, Yuki was moving, tackling Kyonko down.

"What the hell, Nagato?" Kyonko wasn't happy.

"What are you doing, Yuki? You spoiled the shot!" Haruhi was annoyed as well.

Crash! felt apart the board Itsuko was using to reflect the sunlight to better light the scene. It was severed in half. And while Haruhi was distracted by it Kyonko and Mikuru spotted the burn marks on Yuki's neck.

Kyonko's blood went cold. 'Please no. Not this madness again!' Naturally Mikuru panicked which meant more 'Mikuru beams' luckily only scorching the fountain and various trees around them. To stop it Yuki moved in a flash, and was on the poor girl in a second.

"What are you two doing?! I don't plan to film the fighting scenes yet, and why are you two rolling around in such manner?!" upset Haruhi shouted while Yuki had the taller girl pinned down and was grabbing for the coloured contact lens Haruhi forced Mikuru to wear. "Kyonko! Do something!"

Kyonko, camera still going, did the only thing she could. She continued taking the shots of the scene in front of her, ignoring her 'Ultradirector'.

***

The filming was one disaster after other. Although the lenses Mikuru was given mysteriously vanished, it didn't prevent the 'Mikuru Beam' to resurface repeatedly, once even as a tornado for some reason. Talking cats, snow white pigeons, blooming sakura trees and Kyonko almost attacking Haruhi after the latter drugged Mikuru to kiss Taniguchi of all people - something was of with the reality itself - Kyonko spotted more and more strange things happening all over the town. Itsuko said, that it was because Haruhi was loosing the ability to distinguish between the 'reality' and her fantasies, but Kyonko wasn't sure it was that simple. Especially when she woke up from a vivid dream only to find 'Freddy the Dancing Frog' living in her house. And she was the only one who knew the truth about him too. Even Yuki Nagato saw normal frog when she showed him to her. The ability to stop dancing and singing the second someone other than Kyonko glanced at him was uncanny - and was driving Kyonko slowly mad. She was also sure Imouto-chan didn't have a living Rainbow Pony in her room before the filming started. 'She did it,' Kyonko was giggling madly. 'Haruhi Suzumiya shattered the world.'

***

"We need more children in the film," Haruhi stated while watching Kyonko taking shots of her Imouto playing with Shamisen the cat. "The film has not enough moe and kawai in it."

"Isn't Mikuru the leading character?" Kyonko stopped filming to speak with Haruhi. After the drugging incident Haruhi mellowed down a lot and was more reasonable. Kyonko hoped it will stand.

"You can't have enough of moe in a film," Haruhi went on.

'Great,' Kyonko grumbled for herself. 'Not only she doesn't have a plot to begin with, she doesn't know what she wants - comedy, romance, horror or a child movie.'

"Doesn't your Imouto have a friend that want to be a actress? She mentioned her yesterday, doesn't she?" Haruhi asked, taking Kyonko's silence as an approval.

"Yeah, Myiokichi, I mean Myioko" Kyonko sighed. "In fact both Yoshimura sisters are film enthusiasts. Remained me to tell you about our film night sometimes," Kyonko smiled genuinely. She liked the girls.

"Hm," Haruhi nodded once before approaching the eleven year old girl. "Hey, Imouto. Can you help me, please? I have an idea, and maybe your friends can come and play a role in my film like you do."

'Playing a role?' Kyonko rolled her eyes secretly. 'Imouto is a worse actress than Mikuru. She runs around or is playing with Shamisen or other animals - honestly why they are more turning up every day? - and let me film her doing it. Still she is cute if she wants to be.'

"Oh, OK," Kyonko's Imouto beamed proudly at Haruhi. "I will ask Myiokichi if she wants to come. So will we continue tomorrow?"

"Sadly, we have a tests after tomorrow, so we can play again on Friday and during weekend." Haruhi answered her sadly then turned to Kyonko "You better do good on the tests too - so you have not to waste time on repeating it. And take good care of Shamisen!"

"Yeah, yeah," Kyonko shook her head. "So see you tomorrow at school, Haruhi and others." 'I hope you would not traumatise the kids, Haruhi! Although you are doing reasonably well with Imouto, brat as she is. So there is a hope for you yet.'

After taking her goodbyes with the other SOS-Dan members and acquaintances like Tsuruya, Taniguchi and Kunikida, Kyonko and her Imouto hurried back to home with their small menagerie of the 'Impossible animals' like Kyonko nicknamed the strange creatures that appeared during the course of Haruhi's film project. Kyonko hoped for a undisturbed night of sleep. As long as Haruhi was happy, she was sure the world - even as crazy as it was now - will be here. And she also wondered, in a small part of her mind, what the new day will bring.

There is a Gensokyo and xxxHolic cameo in this chapter (both are the same thing). Will you spot it? And to what in my previous chapter the cameo refers?

Chapter 12: World of Dreams

"This is it," Maribel's eyes shined with enthusiasm and excitement. "This is the Mirror of the World of Dreams!" She held up the book Renko bought from the antique store. It was an old printed book called 'The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya', a light novel describing the life of a group of schoolgirls called SOS-Dan. While most things they were doing were in fact normal some weren't. What was important? The books main theme was them creating a film for their school festival - film Renko knew too well.

"Are you sure, Merry? We found several such books so far, and you wasn't so excited by them." Renko was drinking the drink Maribel called tea - where she get the drayed leafs was anyone's guess. It was quite good.

"That's because they all were flawed. Those who wrote them had their reasons for excluding of the important details. But this author was a cynic with no agenda but the need to remind the others what happened and who She truly was as a human."

"She doesn't seam to be a pleasant person," Renko grimaced. "For someone so powerful she is selfish, spoiled, moody and oblivious. How she could ignore some of the things she was responsible for according the author is beyond me."

"That's because those like Her are still mostly humans, and their ability to use or understand their power is limited. She could change the world with only single thought - so She learned quickly to not think about doing it, and in fact created many means to stop such things. This was mostly because first thing She did, was giving Herself the best mind she could - she was in fact genius in all fields She applied Herself too. Such highly logical mind had no room for things that have no logic behind them - dreams, love, hate. She simply wasn't able to understand them even if they were still real for Her. But because She also had a Dream - to be the most important being across the universe - dream much older than Her logical mind, she was able to dream, hate and love. Only thanks to this we are still able to feel emotions, and aren't driven by logic alone. We live in a world She created after all."

"Whoa, Merry," Renko was staring at her friend. "She was a God that created the World? The World is so young? It's only ** years when She died according to our research - and how can God die anyway?"

"It's not as simple as you think. She wasn't first nor last of her kind. The truth is, the World is old - but the Universe is even older. Those like Her were given power to recreate the Universe changing it in all times - in the past, present and the future. There is a Prophecy of Three Creators given by the First. Three people will be given such power through whenever humanity's dreams changed. One changed his present by giving himself and his brethren what he saw as the greatest power - immortality and pure life away from pain and death of Earth. The second changed the future - opening Earth to Universe calling or creating Extraterrestrials and binding them to her and the Earth as a whole. The third changed the past because time is only boundary to her. Thanks to her the Gods and Demons walked the Earth before people's faith changed, and will resurface whenever humans will need them. I always believed She was the Second."

"Huh? Hey, Merry! Who is the first? You said he became immortal, so do you think we can meet him?" Renko asked excitedly.

"We already had," Maribel sighed. "Remember our visit to the True Moon? The Sage we ran across?"

"That was a Creator? He was so unpleasant, especially to you," Renko grimaced. "What a close-minded snob. You aren't pulling one on me, are you?"

"Like I said, they are still humans with all that mater. And yes he is too in love with himself and his 'perfect' world. Prideful and prejudiced too, fearing to expose his paradise to such concepts as a future and change. But he is also kind, and deep down in his soul he feels sorry for us mortals. This kindness and compassion creates his Shadows - Sages and Prophets who tried to bring his power to the mortal humans with various degrees of success. The Shadows of the Second are those who use her gifts to change how humans see the world - scientists and philosophers who use the logic to bring their dreams to life," Maribel was staring at Renko oddly making her uncomfortable.

"And the Third?" asked Renko after while. "Do you know who she is?"

"I don't now. The Prophecy said Time is not an obstacle to her. She could be long dead or not born yet but Her power will be visible in all times. I run across her Aspect once in a Gensokyo. The power she had was terrifying - she could change Boundaries of everything - you name it she could change it. And she was only part of the whole - how powerful the Creator of Gods must be?" Maribel shuddered. "Death has no meaning to such creature - because Death is a Boundary too. Making yourself and others immortal is something all Creators can do, not only the First. In fact there isn't a word about the Second dying. She simply disappeared still in prime of her life - she could still live or be reborn as someone else. I hope she was clever enough to die tough," Maribel wasn't looking at Renko but the later could hear she was distressed. "Immortality is a huge burden. People aren't meant to be immortal."

Renko was thinking about what her friend told her. The Prophecy, the fact those who created the world could live in it - and were a sum of humanity beliefs. She muled over what Maribel told her about the power the Aspect of the Third wore - and was uncomfortable with what it was telling her about her friend. "Hey, Merry," she turned to her, "what are you exactly? Your powers are a variant of the Thirds aren't they?" Her smile faded seeing Maribel frightened and haunted eyes.

"I'm Maribel Hearn. I'm a student of Tokyo's University," she was shivering. "I'm not the Third nor part of her, am I?"

In front of Renko Maribel existence was wavering - she seemed less real somehow and deadly fear filed Renko's thoughts. It was like when Maribel was ill after their run in with the creature during one of their dream journeys. When she ended in the quarantine Renko thought she would never see her again - and she was frightened by it. Now for the first time their discussion started Renko thought about what will happen if a Creator became fully aware about His or Her power. Thoughts about the self-imposed exile the First lives in make her aware about one possibility - they couldn't stay part of the Universe anymore. 'The Second disappeared,' she remembered. 'Did She found about her power, and vanished to not destroy the Universe?'

Renko hugged Maribel tightly, startling her out of her thoughts. She could feel a Boundary between her and Maribel, as if the later wasn't truly part of the Universe. But the feeling vanished and Renko was holding in her arms living and breathing girl - not a whirlwind of power.

"Renko? What?" Maribel turned to her in a surprise. She wasn't given time to think about the unexpected hug because Renko kissed her on her lips.

"Of course you are human. Even if your powers came from the Third you are Merry, my friend, my beloved companion. You are here, not in Gensokyo, on Moon, in Heaven or Hell. You are seventeen year old girl and I don't want this to change."

"Thank you," Maribel hugged her friend back. "I sometimes fear that I'm more than Shadow. I hope I'm not but..." she sobbed helplessly. "Boundaries are easier and easier to cross for me. What if I will be forced to manipulate them - and find that I could? To See, to Cross and to Manipulate - the Sum of the Third's Power. I thought I can only See them and what lies beyond them. But I was always able to cross them too - first in Dreams now even if awake. I fear to try the last step."

"You know, we could always forget about the Project. Screw the Time Travel. I don't need it if it will cost me my friend," Renko proposed.

"No, that's alright. Your dream is too important." Maribel answered her, gently extracting herself from Renko's arms. 'You are more important than you think, Renko. I don't mind me loosing myself to the Third if your Dream became reality.' "Besides I'm sure now nothing will happen to me, not yet. So let us begin then. Like I said with this book, we can cross the Boundary of time tomorrow when the moon will be in the position. The way to the world of dreams is opened."

"And cut!" Haruhi jumped up from her 'ultradirector's' chair. "Myiokichi, good work! You too Maioko-chan, Tsugumi-chan! You should better not screw up the shots again, Kyonko!"

'Thanks, Haruhi,' Kyonko thought sourly. She was well aware of her limitations but what Haruhi thought will happen if you give a camera to someone who never used one was a mystery. 'Probably she again forgot not anyone and especially me could be Haruhi. I hope I didn't screw it up again, for the kids sake at least.' Myioko was excited with the prospect of staring in a real film even if it was for the school festival. She persuaded her younger sister to attend too while her sister's friend Tsugumi tagged along and ended in the film as well. While Kyonko was familiar with Imouto's friend and her family Tsugumi-chan was a mystery of sort. While Maioko's age she acted as someone years older. She also gave the Dan funny looks whenever one of them - mostly Nagato - did something not humanly possible. She was also more wary of the strange animals tagging along with Imouto and Yoshimuras. Not exactly unfriendly but well aware they didn't exactly belong. 'I should give her a last test. Then She will probably tell me, who she truly is.'

"So once again!" Haruhi sit down in her chair. "You are chasing the Shamisen and his companions who took the Rainbow Dance prisoner and want her bring to the Alien Witch. And Yuki be more threatening this time! Mikuru then will swoop in, and save the day as the Battle Waitress she is! And be all as cute as always! Kyonko, ready?" When Kyonko nodded, Haruhi took a breath in and exclaimed "And action!" Madness of running, screaming and occasional 'Mikuru Beam' that passed for play performance in the Haruhi's filming ensued.

***

"Be so kind and please come to the 'Toy's Emporium' the finest shop of the Market District, and the sponsor of the 'Adventure of Mikuru Asahina 00' film. We have the largest selection of goods in the city and our friendly attendants are always ready to help," read from her scrip embarrassed Mikuru in her Bunny costume while impassive Yuki held her transparent. At least Kyonko persuaded Haruhi that simple shots of the younger girls playing in the shop under the owner's surveillance was better than breaking the law and involve them in reading the commercials as well. It was also cuter and a lot more effective than she herself would think.

***
***

Tsugumi Shibata wasn't truly sure what was going on. After a week or so after she started going to her new school and train her Talent again, she woke up from a dream only seeing the Fruit Brothers rushing out of her home that was a mess, cackling madly. She thought that she must dream it up because when she got up for the school the damage the mad Fruits did to Shibata's home was gone. The home was in fact in a better state then before.

Then she came to school and found Maioko showing of her new pet - strange rainbow coloured bird. No one thought it strange. The day was even stranger with what could only be Youkai running in plain sight over the city with most people ignoring them. In fact she had a suspicion that those freaking out or at least giving them a second look were those who KNEW about their existence before whatever was going on happened. But when a Rain Faerie flew by her, crying out 'The Time Of Dreams Came!' she turned around and hurried to her new teacher, the old Seer.

Tsugumi was unnerved when her Sensei told her that the Boundary between the Unreal and Real was weakened. 'Don't worry, the World will be back as it was after the credits are written.' What that meant she didn't know. At least to the day Maioko's sister Myioko who was also called Myiokichi told them about her friend's offer to play in true film, and invited them to come as well. So that was how he befriended girl all called Imouto - even children younger then her. It seemed this was a tradition of a sort - her older sister was only known as Kyonko. Even their parents were not exception - the mother was known as Okāsan and father as Otōsan to all children in the neighbourhood. They were at first glance normal - except for their names - but there was something odd anyway. The older of the girls, Kyonko, had around herself aura of magic that Tsugumi saw only around priests of powerful active Kami but she didn't behave like Miko. She was also critical about the film, calling the girl who was supposed to be the one responsible for the script and direction spoiled scatterbrain when she thought no one was listening, and told them openly not to expect a lot.

Then she met Haruhi and the rest of the SOS-Dan. Eccentric was a gentle label for Haruhi. And this was her best behaviour. She usurped their attention, and shanghaied even Tsugumi, who didn't have a reason, to play a role in her film. While her enthusiasm was catching, she was quick to anger, and it was mostly Kyonko who was at the other end of her irritation. Not that Kyonko didn't gave less than she got - at least that was what Tsugumi saw. She was sarcastic bitch who silently berated Haruhi almost constantly - which was obvious to all but Haruhi herself. How Haruhi thought about Kyonko as her most meek and loyal follower in the Dan was mystery for Tsugumi. Perhaps because in the end Kyonko still did as Haruhi wanted. Haruhi was very intelligent and logical but also chasing after unusual things somehow overlooking them when they show up. There was also the shroud of power around her.

Yuki was a mystery to Tsugumi. The quiet girl was very strong but also passive. If she did something, it was to ensure Kyonko's and others safety or because Kyonko and sometimes Haruhi told her to. She also almost certainly wasn't human, although who she was Tsugumi couldn't tell. She was quick, strong and didn't feel pain as humans would. Tsugumi also spotted Yuki manipulating with reality - casting spells. Funnily her chants sounded a lot like a computer programs being chanted really quickly. She also told Tsugumi 'Data around you are unusually dense' whatever that meant.

Itsuko Koizumi, the rich girl she remembered from when Chen pointed the SOS-Dan first to them, was a Haruhi's Yes-woman and officially second in command of the Dan. She felt like much weaker version of Haruhi to Tsugumi. She was also obviously attracted to Kyonko but wasn't doing anything about it, mostly so she would not anger Haruhi. This didn't stop her from frustrating the other girl and flirting with her whenever she could get away with it. She was also wary about the youkai-like animals but friendly with the children and wasn't greedy. Tsugumi wasn't prepared to trust her but she liked her nevertheless.

Mikuru Asahina was another mystery. She seemed normal with no talent but something was off about her. She had gaps in her knowledge about some common things - like the popular literature, music, films and games although she was highly intelligent and knowledgable. The strangest about her was her speech impairment. She was sometimes unable to speak about some things, like her childhood or family.

The filming itself was strange. Random outburst of magic and strange things happening during it which Haruhi and normal humans like Yoshimura's sisters or the boys Taniguchi and Kunikida were oblivious to. Strangely the other members of the SOS-Dan and the green haired girl Tsuruya were fully aware about them, and only pretended to ignore them.

Then there were the animals...

***

"What are you?" Tsugumi was glaring at the several strange beings in front of her.

"Well Miss, we are Dreams given flesh," the Rainbow Bird answered after a while. "We were born from the dreams of those we accompany. We are benevolent dreams who chase Nightmares like those Fruit Brothers of yours and reverse their mischief. Because the Dreams can be too dangerous to let run around unsupervised, so we were born with the powers and knowledge to do so."

"We also police the Youkai here in the Mortal World so they don't disrupt it too badly," the Rainbow Pony continued. "We know about Gensokyo and your bond with it which is why we are speaking with you. We would also like from you to arrange for us a sanctuary when the time for the dreams to fade again came. Because She will wake up one day."

"I try to contact Yukari-sama and I hope she will be able to arrange something," Tsugumi promised to help. "But I don't know if she will be able to help or if she would want to."

"That's all we want," the Rainbow Bird told her. "We can only hope. We are after all only small dreams not Youkai or Faeries. Each of us is unique like our creators. Thank you and pleasant dreams, Tsugumi-chan," the Dreams then said their goodbyes and hurried away to their creators or to hunt the Nightmares, Tsugumi didn't know.

***

After she returned from her first afternoon with the SOS-Dan, Tsugumi wasn't really surprised by Chen waiting for her. She brought message to her and Hajime-chan. "Yukari-sama want you to keep an eye at the SOS-Dan. They are more important than you can imagine. Be prepared for their Speaker to contact you soon and you can trust her but only her. Under any circumstances should you reveal the magic to Haruhi Suzumiya, not yet anyway if you want the World to make sense. What is happening right now is nothing compared to what will happen should she consider magic or any other things she is surrounded with to be common. She is too unstable for now to risk it."

"Can you ask Yukari-sama if she could arrange sanctuary for the benevolent Dreams so they will survive if whatever happened to bring them to life stopped working?" Tsugumi remembered her new acquittance's request.

"I will ask Yukari-sama what we could do for them when Haruhi Suzumyia decided the Dreams are not real after all," Chen promised before she returned back to Gensokyo.

Two days later Kyonko confronted Tsugumi about what she knew about Haruhi and the SOS-Dan...

Chapter 13: The two worlds first collision

Kyonko cornered Tsugumi shortly after they ended with their day's film shooting and told her, there are things she want to ask her about. She bought her a drink in the restaurant Haruhi normally used as a meeting point for their outing or 'city searching like she called it also.

"So Tsugumi-chan, can you tell me, please, what do you know about Suzumiya-san and the SOS-Dan?" Kyonko asked when they were left alone by the waitress. The older girl sipped from her cup and sighed slightly. The situation was slowly going out of hands, what with the reality being compromised. She certainly didn't need a child of a journalist who was interested in urban legends complicate things.

"I first heard about you two month back, when we rode through your town from a rather bad case. A twin sister of a successful entrepreneur, both girls younger then me, was badly mistreated by her sister and their caretaker. Short story is that the 'evil' sister went missing in front of my father and the ringmaster of their circus, and the mistreatment ceased to be a problem - at terrible prize of course," she paused. "But that's not really important and it's not a treat to you or Suzumiya-san. We were heading for another confrontation with a phenomenon we were pursuing then when someone rather important decided to intervene. She, her name is Yukari Yakumo, planted her agent here to intercept us and delay us so she could prepare for us and our, well, nemesis. Her plan worked, and we resolved our issues. Yukari-sama got the sanatorium from this..."

"Wait," Kyonko interrupted her, "the legend of lost sanatorium is real?"

"Legend? But the sanatorium vanished from this world to Gensokyo this august! How it could became legend so fast?" Tsugumi frowned, and then sighed "Yeah, I forgot. Suzumiya-san can manipulate with Boundaries too, even if in another way than Yukari-sama. She had to feel it, and her power did the rest."

"Wait, wait," Kyonko stopped Tsugumi's musing. "Gensokyo? Border manipulation? Yukari-sama? What did Haruhi do this time?"

"Actually nothing," Tsugumi giggled. "Gensokyo isn't her work, and neither are Talents, well those based on magic anyway. According to Chen, Yukari-sama's agent, Suzumiya-san isn't actually unique. There are, were and will be others like her and someone in the future dreamed about times when magic and Gods were real. Gensokyo is her dream, and so are Youkai and Kami. She didn't tell me any details beside that, but that Suzumiya-san is still human despite her power, and too unstable to be trusted with the knowledge of magic and such things. It was Chen, who first noticed you and bring your existence to our and Yukari-sama's attention."

"So magic is real, and it's not even Haruhi's fault? And what do you know about us anyway?" Kyonko massaged her temples.

"Not much besides that you are drawing on Suzumiya-san's power like a miko would from her Goddess's, that according her aura Koizumi-san is an extension and creation of Suzumiya-san, that Nagato-san isn't human nor Youkai and that Asahina-san isn't from this time. Oh, and that it's Suzumiya-san's work that Dreams are real right now."

"So that's what Haruhi did! You know a lot, Tsugumi-chan, but also less than me. But you have to be mistaken about me! I'm normal, I don't have any special powers!"

"You don't," Tsugumi nodded but added "You however can learn to channel Suzumiya-san's power. It works a lot as with Kami's but you seems to have more freedom in using it. It did save your life several times, didn't it?"

Kyonko always wondered about that as well, but she let it go for now. "So who are you really, Tsugumi-chan?" she asked instead.

"I'm seven years old Seer," Tsugumi smiled at confused Kyonko. "We came here mostly to train my talent with an older Seer that lives here. Yukari-sama also told me and my father to keep an eye on SOS-Dan, and to help you if you run into something from my side of reality. And I ask you to not expose me to the others. Chen warned me that I should only trust you. Oh, and I asked Chen to find if Gensokyo could take in the benevolent Dreams when the film will be made, and the world returned to normal."

"So you know how to repair what Haruhi did?" Kyonko was relieved. She asked the others but they weren't much of help. "And don't worry. I wouldn't tell others about you."

"Thank you," Tsugumi smiled slightly. "And to change world back, I think you should simply continue. And the final credits of the film are the key. If you do them right, the world will be back to what it was before."

"Credits, hm? What have credits to do with changing the world...?" Kyonko was thinking aloud. "Ah! Disclaimer!" she had epiphany suddenly. When she saw that Tsugumi didn't understand her, she elaborated further "You know? The part of the credits that says something like 'this story is completely fictional, and all similarities with real people and places are pure coincidence'?"

"Ah!" Tsugumi clasped her hands excitedly. "That should do it! Please warn me before you did it tough, so I can send the Dreams to Gensokyo,OK?"

"I don't see why not?" Kyonko shrugged.

"Thank you. Say, want you to speak with them, Kyonko-san?" Tsugumi smiled at the older girl.

"Not really," Kyonko frowned. "And why do you want to help them anyway? My Dream is annoying as hell."

"They aren't bad at all. They work hard to contain the wild and evil dreams and to minimize the damage caused by them," Tsugumi shuddered remembering the Fruits Brothers and the mayhem they caused before the other dreams took care of them. "And you have a Dream with you? I know about the Rainbow Bird that is Maioko's Dream and the Rainbow Pony that belong to your Imouto but not about yours."

"Like I told you, he exists to annoy me," Kyonko told her dryly and then took out the pest from her bag, and set it in front of Tsugumi. "Tsugumi, this is a Fred, the Dancing Frog."

"Huh," Tsugumi stared at frog that was sitting in front of her passively, doing absolutely nothing. "It seemed normal to me."

"Ribbit," did the frog, staring like only frogs can.

"He dances and sings only if alone with me," Kyonko sighed. "It's uncanny how no one other saw him doing it."

Tsugumi frowned and then activated her Sight. "Yes, he or better she has your aura, all right. "You can stop the charade, miss, you are busted!" she frowned at the frog.

"Ribb... Pardon, me Tsugumi-san. But it's my job to annoy Kyonko-san. And, well, I'm a little shy in front of others," the frog said in her surprisingly pleasant voice. "Please, can you send me to Gensokyo as well? I don't want to became normal frog again," Fred pleaded with what both girls could tell was her equivalent of shy blush.

"I'm relieved that you really aren't normal, Fred," Kyonko sighed in relief. "I mean, that I'm relieved that I aren't going mad from all this stress. Stupid frog."

Tsugumi and Fred giggled over her frustration.

"I do like you," Fred told her human. "You are good girl, and you are taking care of me. I will be sad when I will go away, but you will have Shamisen, he is content to be normal cat to be with you and your Imouto."

"Stupid cat," Kyonko turned her eyes down so Tsugumi and Fred would not see her tears. She did like Fred, and the thoughts of her going away made Kyonko little sad. Fred was there for her, always prepared to cheer her up with her songs and dance routines, and she will miss that she could went her frustration about others in front of her. Well at least she will have the cat...

After saying their goodbyes, the girls went home, not prepared for what they will met tomorrow.

Chapter 14: The Second Club - The Sealed History

Spoilers for Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, the opening episode of the second anime season.

"Yes, Merry?"

"Are you prepared?"

'Really? Not as much, as I thought.' The brunette smiled at her blonde friend "Always, Merry."

The two girls stood over the pool Maribel used to travel to the Moon the last time. Only now it was redecorated with two lines of paper lanterns gently floating with the Moon shining through the Tori of the temple half ascended over the horizon, making the water looking like a path made from silver light. Taking last breath Maribel stepped forward and ON the water surface as if it was solid path. Renko gulped nervously and did the same, her gaze firmly on the large Moon on the horizon. To her surprise the water felt as solid as the pavement she stood on only minutes before.

'Here goes nothing,' Renko firmly clasped her friends left hand with her right and they both stepped forward and kept going, following the Path of Light.

Gently, for the first time in her life, Maribel Hearn touched a Boundary that was her friend. She found, what she searched for, the place where Tomorrow and Yesterday touched, and PUSHED. All around them green light flared and Gap opened in front of the maidens, Gap filed with what looked like electronic circuits - or a Field of Strings. They stepped through it, and in seconds they were Somewhere.

"Merry?"

Yes Renko?"

"Where are we?"

"This is a place inside the Boundary between Tomorrow and Yesterday, the infinitive Today. Each knot on the 'circuits' is a different Today. We are where time has no power. We are inside the Seal Of History."

"You were always a poet, Merry. "

***

The World trembled around her. A blonde purple-eyed figure in a dress with jing-jang symbol on her front looked up. 'Not yet. You have a longer journey before you then you think.' It was a matter of small shift in the Boundary.

***

"Where are we?" Renko stood up from the park bench she woke on. "Merry?" She found her friend fast asleep next to her. A rustle in the bushes behind her alerted her to the fact they weren't alone in the night where ever they were. "Who is there?"

At first she thought the figure was Maribel, as impossible as it sounded. But there were differences between them. And not only in apparent age - the newcomer was older, more mature even if as stunningly beautiful as Maribel - but also in such details as their eyes. From the familiar face a pair of violet eyes looked at her instead of blue eyes of her friend. She had her hair stilled into several ponytails with red ribbons and her smile was mischievous and naughty.

"Renko Usami, daughter of Sumireko," she winked at her, "it is a pleasure to meet you at last. Oh. She is as I remembered her from the time she first crossed the Boundary. How many years it was for me? Two hundreds? Five?" She lightly poked the sleeping girl in her face and giggled.

"Who are you?" Renko stood up to defend herself and her still sleeping friend.

"No time," the tall woman stated impatiently. "I need to go back to my place before the today's me spotted me. Or you two. Listen, Renko-san, You need to hide. Use this when the second travellers appear to knock the redhead out. Take her phone she will be holding. Wake up Maribel and wait after the older redhead appear and went away. Follow the brunette and make sure nothing interfere with her. When the two arrived into sanctuary, use the phone to get out of here. Discard the phone in the first bin you came across in the new location. Please, this is important. Do it, so you and Maribel can be friends as you are, please."

"What day is today?" Maribel asked.

"It's THE Tanabata." the woman, retreating into the shadows answered. "Hurry and hide. They will arrive in minutes."

"Merry! Wake up!"

"Wha?" Maribel blinked sleepily. "When did we ended? This isn't the Summer of Dreams... And what are you doing with the Kappa hypnospray?"

"We need hide. The lady in purple told me, that others will arrive soon." Renko help Maribel up and dragged her back into the bushes, some way away.

"What day it is? What year?" Maribel asked while they hid.

"She told me it's Tanabata but not what year," Renko told her quietly as she peered over the bush to see what was to happen.

"THAT Tanabata?"

"What do you mean,Merry?"

"Nothing!! DamnitYukari. We need to help them. Ah there they are!"

"Pssh!"

They observed as a redhead petite girl, surprisingly strong, dragged from a Gap identical to the one they arrived with a taller sleeping girl and arranged her on the same bench they woke themself. Before she could do anything Renko hit her with a dose from her hypnospray.

"Help me, Merry! She is heavier then she looks!"

"What are you doing? You do know, she will need that back, do you?"

"I was told we will need it more if we should get away from here! They will be fine, I am sure!"

"DAMNyou Yukari."

"What?"

"Noting! Hide, quickly! She is coming!"

"This is strangely familiar." An older version of the girl Renko ambushed and robed stepped out of the bush near where Renko and Maribel were hiding.

"Eh? Is this the park Nagato told me to met her first?" the brunette girl woke up.

"So that is I looked like then? How nostalgic," the older woman pinched lightly her unconscious double's cheek.

"Asahina-san?" the girl on the bench turned to the woman.

"I have a work for you to do..."

***

"She had at least morals," blushing Renko murmured as they trailed after the brunette, Kyonko, who was currently dragging the unconscious younger Mikuru through the unknown city, Maribel thought was Nishinomyia.

"Oh? She was simply afraid. Would you refused such opportunity yourself Renko Usami?" Maribel was teasing her friend.

"Shouldn't we be looking for any interlopers?" Renko didn't take the bite.

Maribel laughed lightly but traced her right index finger in the air, peering inside something only she saw. She blinked, then pointed to the left "Right. Follow me, Renko." She led her friends quickly through the back alleys. They saw a tall figure hiding in the shadows, sometimes peaking out of the alley. The figure tensed when it saw Kyonko approaching. It took out something. A weapon!

Renko didn't hesitate and quickly approached the gunman. The figure started to turn to her but was too slow. One chop, and the figure collapsed, unconscious.

"A tranquillizer?" Renko studied the weapon the tall boy in unknown school uniform dropped. The girls on the main street passed by without Kyonko noticing something happened.

"Nee-san. Sensei. I failed you," the boy muttered as he stood up. "But I will not stop. I will make you happy again." He then grabbed Renko's sleeve to get her attention. "Hurry, sensei. Or the rogue Interface will destroy everything!" He collapsed, definitely unconscious.

Maribel caught him before he could injure himself by falling on the pavement. She with sad eyes gently laid him down. "Poor lost soul," she muttered. "We should hurry," she turned to her friend. "The night is nearing its zenith. We need to stop Vega to tore the Aurora from the sky or the night will never end."

"What is going on?" Renko asked in confusion. "Who was he? What are Kyonko and Mikuru from the film doing here. They can also time travell? How?"

***

A blue haired girl giggled as he spied on their target. She got the urgent message and was now prepared to execute THE plan. And best thing was Yuki wasn't aware about her backup synchronisation. She called to her her trusted weapon, her knife. "Kyonko-chan," she murmured almost lovingly. "You can't run from me now. Oh, please die for me tonight!"

"Hey!" two figures stepped forward. "What are you up to!" the dark haired one asked her, a tranquillizer gun on the tall bluenette.

"I am here to observe. I am here to study, to research. I calculated that the death of Kyonko-chan will change the world. I want to see it. I NEED to see it," her blue eyes and gentle smile didn't change. "If you are to stop me, please, die!" And she attacked, more quick than Renko anticipated. Still she missed and Renko hit her with the gun's butt. "That would hurt if I was a human," she stated in the same gentle voice as before. "This is my Bound Place. Anything here is subject under my control." The world around them changed to ruins of city or a city under construction. "Now, please die!"

Renko shot her.

The dart never reached her. The bluenette held her hand up and a knife landed in it. "This is yours, I think?" she threw the transformed dart back.

Renko couldn't step aside. Not with Maribel behind her. So she tried to stop the knife with her gun. She failed, took it into her belly and collapsed in pain.

"Sorry," the bluenette apologised in friendly manner. "This wasn't my intent. It is hurting? I don't understand the concept of pain. Or death. Please show it to me,"

"NO, no,no,"three voices cried simultaneously. REnkO! THIS was a mistake! Vega COULDN'T stop Sirius from SHINING! This NEVER happened!"

"M...Merry?" Renko looked at her friend who stepped around her to stay between the mad bluenette and her friend. Only ... she wasn't alone. In front of her a gold eyed child looking as her stood. Behind her a tall purple eyed woman that Renko met tonight was, holding Maribel's shoulders while Maribel lied her hands on the child's shoulders. The child hold her arms up, her palms in the direction of the enemy.

"What are you?" the bluenette asked in the same tone as she always used.

"THE Boundary OF Time never OPENED to you! YOU never received THE message!"

"What power. So much data!" the bluenette stared at her adversary. "YOU are Interesting!" She felt apart in shower of blue and purple stars. The strange place slash battlefield vanished with her. The figures of the woman and the child vanished as well while Maribel collapsed, unconscious.

"Merry!" Renko darted up, worried about her friend. Only after a while she registered that she was healthy, her injury vanishing as well. "Huh? What happened? Merry? Wake up! She is out of it... Come on. Merry!"

Renko heard voices of Kyonko and a girl, she recognised as Mikuru, the younger. Mikuru was panicking. 'She definitely misses her device.' Renko felt guilty. Luckily it seemed that Kyonko knew what she was doing. The Brigade girls were going away, their voices growing quieter and quieter. 'Ugh! Maribel, I love you, but you are heavier than you looked.' Renko was forced to heft her friend in the same manner Kyonko was dragging Mikuru around before. She then trailed behind the other girls who walked to an expensive looking condominium building. She observed while Kyonko called someone, then entered when that someone opened a door to them. Renko and sleeping Maribel were left behind. 'I think, this is the Sanctuary the Purple Eyes was speaking about,' Renko contemplated. She laid Maribel down and again tried to wake her up. It didn't worked. She sighed and took out the device she 'borrowed' from Mikuru. One of the of the buttons was lightened. It read 'Return'. Renko touched it and found herself back in the Time Boundary place.

This time she was conscious when the Gap deposited them in the same place they left, behind the Condominium's dustbins. Remembering what she was told, Renko opened the nearest dustbin and threw the device inside. She then dragged Maribel away but stayed in eyeshot from the dustbin, curious what will happen. Shortly after they arrived a girl with short purple hair stepped out from the building with small trash bag in her right hand. She opened the dustbin, without pausing took the device out and threw the bag inside. Without looking around, she returned inside. Renko recognised her, she was the 'Yuki' girl that played the witch from the outer space in Haruhi's film, another member of the Brigade.

"What happened?" a weak voice alerted Renko her friend was up. "I remembered us running in the school stadium direction but then nothing. Did I fainted, Renko?"

"Merry? You are alright!" Renko hugged her friend.

"Where are we?"

"Near Yuki Nagato's home, apparently," Renko decided to not go into details. Not yet at least. "After you collapsed I trailed Kyonko and Mikuru here and used the device. The Rift deposited us her and Yuki has the device now. She will probably return it to Mikuru. My head hurt. What is going on?"

"So we are in the right year but three month of target. We could as well sought Gensokyo now," Maribel mused.

"What?" Renko blinked.

"We need to lay low for three month," Maribel explained. "and Time is unstable here right now. So the best we could do is vanish where not even Yukari would expect us. Inside the Eastern Paradise."

"Um. Who is Yukari? And why did you use her name as a swear word during , well, the past Tanabata?"

Maribel laughed.

(END of the chapter)

The Timetravel would be not the same without THE Tanabata.

This arrangement is of course not mine as are the heroes of the story but it should quite well reflect the mood of this interlude chapter ...

Chapter 15: Quiet Moments

'Huh?' Kyonko stopped as she spotted her friend - even if she would protest vehemently against such definition of her relationship with her - sitting under a tree in front of the old school building their clubroom was situated in. After Haruhi dismissed the others, Kyonko did delayed her departure by storing the day's records from their camera into Haruhi's computer and with cleanup of their equipment and the room. The others were long gone when she was done. Or so she thought.

"Looking at the sunset, ... Haruhi?" Kyonko sat down besides the girl that tied her to herself month back.

"Did you enjoyed today's film making?" Haruhi didn't glance at the taller girl standing behind her. "Will you miss it when we are done?"

'Oh! Do we feel melancholic again?' "Even if you know nothing about it. Even if your directions don't make a sense and you don't know what you are doing - I did enjoyed your last crazy project, Haruhi."

"Jerk," she threw a handful of the grass at Kyonko - only for a wind blowing it back at her and in her eyes and into her open mouth. "Gah!"

"If you could see yourself right now, Ultrachief," Kyonko giggled. "You look hilarious."

"Kyonkoo," wailed the Goddess. "Stop making fun of me! You are my underling, you shouldn't be amused about your chief misery!"

"And why not? You would be too if the grass hit me!" giggled Kyonko again. "Do you think, it is it my fault the wind blew right now in the wrong direction?"

"Hmf!" Haruhi turned away and again lied down. "You know, I think we are almost done. We should work some more on the sounds - which reminds me, I should introduce you to that cool girl that is awesome with sounds - and one or two scenes I have in mind. You then will do some redactions and work on some special effects we talked yesterday about. The festival will come in five days, so we have to, sorta."

'She isn't sounding enthusiastic,' Kyonko sighed. "There will be more awesome and interesting things to do after that. The festival and our presentation on it is not the end of the world" 'I hope.'

"Of course there will be!" Haruhi's voice sounded livelier. "I have a plans for Christmas as well as for the winter holidays. But," she again sighed, "I will miss it. You know, you butchering shots, Mikuru panicking whenever she is asked to sing. Even Yuki standing where I placed her in that costume of hers - and where did she get one ? I enjoyed the filming immensely, you know? And it is sad, the end came . I always hated ends."

"But it will be also a beginning," Kyonko turned to her friend. "Beginning of the famous film producer, Haruhi Suzumyia. Years later, people will be in awe, when a collector will proudly exclaimed 'I procured this incredibly rare piece of Suzumyia's first work . And they will lock themself to watch it while the plebeians will envy them."

"Now, you are making fun of me again," but Haruhi was smiling nonetheless. "Famous? I?"

"You are unique, Haruhi." 'More than even Itsuko knows.' "Only you could come with your version of Tanabata."

"Still will be years to know if it worked," Haruhi looked at Kyonko. "And what brought this?"

"Perhaps I feel like you too? I didn't lie when I told you I enjoyed the film making too. I never would came with something like that. Or made it work, like you did."

"Hmm..."

So they observed the setting sun in silence, two schoolgirls and friends. Never before did they felt more close.

"Hey Merry?" a brunette girl asked as she observed the moon rising over the forests and hills of a beautiful land they were living as guests in for month now.

"What it is, Renko?" Maribel or Merry as her friend called her asked.

"I don't want these days to end." 'I fear, I will loose you.'

"There are many days before us," 'I am sorry.'

"Never thought I will see this land with my eyes." 'Never thought my dream will come true...'

"The summer was fun, wasn't it?" 'Especially you learning Danmaku. Never thought you would risk so much to defend me.'

("I can feel it, Dai-chan! This night is it! I feel it!")

"Our host is indeed lively today."

"She IS a Chill Fairy, Renko. With first autumn morning frost, her power will increase."

"Eh? Who are you two?" A young-looking girl in blue dress with blue bow in her light blue hair and crystals on her back stopped her aerial dance as she spotted the two humans lying on the hill near her own house.

"Cirno-chan! Did you forget about our honourable guests - again?" a girl in matching dress but with green hair in a ponytail fastened with a gold ribbon and with fly-like golden wings stopped chasing her friend to remind her. "Sorry for that, Hearn-san, Usami-san. But Cirno is excited today. More than normally."

"That's all right, Dai-chan," Maribel smiled at their Fairy host. "And congratulation to the first autumn night, Cirno-chan."

"Oh thank, you!" Cirno made a loop in pure enthusiasm. "Hey! I remember you! You are the humans I beat in Danmaku! I win your company for three month, didn't I?" (Daiyousei face palmed. She still couldn't believe Cirno let them trick her so easily. After all what was a difference between 'You will shelter us for three month so no one but your best friends will know we are here' and 'We will be your friends and play with you for three month so long no one but your best friends will know about us'?)

"Of course you did,"Maribel smiled while Renko flushed in embarrassment. Bragging Cirno could be insufferable sometimes. "But our time is almost up. Chen gave us her word that she will bring us back to our world tomorrow morning."

"Awww," Cirno groaned. "And when I could show you how strong I REALLY am."

"Sorry, Cirno-chan. We really enjoyed your company and our plays. You also were a good teacher of Danmaku," Maribel continued

"I was, wasn't I? Take that, Headbutting Demon! Who is the best teacher in Gensokyo? Cirno, that is!" the Ice Fairy preened. "See ya, latter!"

"Cirno-chan.. And she is gone," Daiyousei sighed. "So now, that you got Chen to help you, you will truly be gone?"

"Yes, Dai-chan. With the first day's light, so we wouldn't miss Cirno-chan's first rime," Maribel smiled at the other Fairy. "And thank you."

"I did it for Cirno-chan so to not spoil her victory. Say, that was your first Danmaku fight, right, Usami-san?" the fairy ankled her head with mischievous smile.

"Um, yeah," Renko blushed harder. "It was awful, wasn't it? I didn't know what I was doing, most of the time."

"You were still lot better than Cirno-chan when she learned Danmaku herself," Daiyousei smiled. "She won her first fight because Wriggle lost it when Cirno blasted her bugs with cold and wasn't thinking straight. She was so embarrassed!"

"I did heard about Icicle Fall," Renko blushed.

"I was angry with you two, but you were really good friends, played with us all summer and weren't making fun of Cirno-chan. You even befriended Rumia - and how did you managed THAT? -which is plus in my book. I am honoured to know you, Master of Boundaries and Master of Time," and she was gone too crying "Cirno-chaan. Wait for mee!"

"This was truly strangest vacation, we ever took," Renko was staring in direction the Fairies went. "Say, why did you tricked Cirno to shelter us?"

"Because this is the last place someone would look for us. And with this years Incidents we were safest with someone not involved."

"Even Yukari?"

"Especially her. I am still not prepared to face her. Not yet."

"I will never forget this summer, Merry!"

"I certainly wouldn't too. No matter where our journey will lead me."

"Merry?"

"Hmm?"

"I will never forget you. Friends forever?"

"Of course. Forever."

***
***

"That was so romantic! You really want Chen to think she got away with helping them?"

"Her initiative is appreciated. Most of the time. She knows, what she is doing."
