Nascent Goddess Quest

Abominations are the ones that exist in opposition to the Gods, while seeking to ruin the world and plunge it in chaos or something, right? So when it comes to Curiosity... if the end result is the same, what's the difference?
In general:
Gods use their domains to assist humanity (and the rest of the creatures) in development, they work with the philosophy of guiding through their domains, but also making sure to guide people away from an excess or deficite of said domain.

Abominations are literally the opposite, they're all about indulgence with either too much or too little (in taking it away from someone for a gain in power) of their domain, which tends to lead to ruin.

In this specific case:
A God of Curiosity will pique interest juuust enough to result in innovation, or drop someone's curiosity for a subject if it will lead to mass destruction.

An Abomination of Curiosity will create dull, lifeless husks that walk through life without caring about anything other than what they already do, or it would make people obsessively curious about random and potentially dangerous topics. Dangerous can be both to the individual or an entire region. It could make someone really want to take a look inside a cave full of bears, or it could make then really invested in finding evidence that would destabilise a ruling body (whether said evidence exists or not tends no to matter when the person is obsessed)

Though Gods and Abominations tend not to interfere in mortal affairs that much, people can be curious about things without a God making them like that.

Tiebreak between identifying symbols and talking to the voice please.

He salutes and returns to his fellow men looking over the map and notes. According to Benny you'd been talking to an Abomination! And it'd taken and interest in you! This wasn't good...The boss sucks in air sharply through his teeth. That also isn't good, now he'll know you were talking to an Abomination, at least you hadn't told him about getting some power from it.

Hmm. To bully or not to bully...

Helpful in the future.

"S-so," you say, trying to ignore the God or Abomination in your head, "Tobias, what kinds of things have you heard about the God an Abomination of Curiosity?"

Tobias just stares at you

"What?" you ask, nervously twirling the end of your hair.

"You were spoken to by an Abomination," he states emotionlessly.

"Yyyyyes..." you worriedly reply.

"Do you know what this means Eshani?!" he asks dramatically as he rushes close.

"I-I don't..." you whimper, is he going to get mad? This seems like a thing that would get him mad.

"It means you're definitely Divine!" he cheers while pulling you into a hug, "And even more, you managed to resist whatever it was trying to influence you to do!"

"Y-yup," you stutter. You definitely resisted it, 100%.

"I'm not an Abomination though! Ask him!"
Sigh
"So, about my question please?" you remind him after he puts you back down.

Liam, Mira, and Jocelyn all stare at you both after what just happened. It was very out of character for Tobias to suddenly be super happy like that, you haven't seen him acting like that since you first met him.

"Wait," Jocelyn interjects, "She's Divine? What?"

"Erm, waaaaaaay back in her lineage, maybe, we aren't actually sure," Mira lies while shooting Tobias a glare.

"...Yes, that's what I meant," Tobias plays along. "As for the questions: The God of Curiosity is a noble man, though some still argue he is a woman. Regardless, his influence tends to be very subtle, most seemingly random discoveries are attributed partially to him guiding the finder's curiosity towards that topic. As for the Abomination, it takes a much more hands-on approach, wanting to know everything it can see in as much detail as possible, usually getting distracted partway through though. It also has a fondness for manipulating people to either help it or get into dangerous situations by making them curious."

Well, this voice didn't sound like the God, and it fit the Abomination description pretty well.

"I just don't normally do big things, that doesn't mean I can't make some direct influence. And because what I do tends to be subtle people don't know what I'm like, I'm also curious, just not so direct with most people. You're special.

"So, there isn't much on the God of Curiosity's personality other than noble?" you ask.

"Sadly, no. It's difficult to discover information like that with the more obvious Gods," Tobias responds.

Well, that wasn't too helpful, but it tipped the scale a bit. What else might help with making this decision...

"Could you take me to see Benny please?" you ask Jocelyn.

She doesn't respond, but gives a wave of her hand. As soon as you exit the room she locks it and motions for you to walk beside her. You kinda want to ask her something, but the walk is so short you don't get the opportunity, in a scant few seconds Benny is in front of you, a quizzical look on his face.

"Er, I wanted to know just how sure you are about the direction of those symbols. They're really similar after all, and if we're wrong..."

"I get where you're coming from, but if I'm wrong then those Abomination Cults have been worshipping a god all this time, and Gods tend to get testy about that."

"But isn't the God of Curiosity subtle and stuff?"

"I mean, it's always possible I suppose, just that the evidence so far makes that really, really unlikely. You shouldn't have anything to be worried about. I need to get back to work though, this isn't the only possible Divine we're tracking."

"Grr, arrogant man won't even check if what he said follows what people worship."

"U-uh, Benny!" you try to call him, but it's too late, he's already gone back to the table.

"Sorry, time's up," Jocelyn says before guiding you back to the room. Right, well, that information should be helpful enough, now for interrogation.

"Interrogation?"

Yes, you're not even going to consider helping unless the voice answers your questions. Which is something a noble God would do anyway, right?

"Are you implying something? Of course I'll answer your questions!"

What was it doing at the show?

"Helping them get more customers."

That doesn't seem like a thing Gods do.

"You'd be surprised how often we help out some mortals from the background. You did it a lot yourself."

Aren't there more important things to do?

You hear a short laugh. "Gods are pretty good at multitasking, we have to influence mortals all over the place all the time."
Jeez, you're bad at being convincing.
That still seems pretty flimsy.

"So I like to help people more than your typical God, what's wrong with that?"

The part where the guys in the show might be stealing stuff from their customers, why would a God help them?

"That's just a baseless rumor. If you want more Q and A you'll need to help me though."

Well, you have the information you could get, it's time to make a decision here. Helping it is...probably the best choice to play it safe. The can always find it later if it turns out to be an Abomination, they can't exactly unkill it if it's a God.

"I don't really like you working by 'we can just kill it later if it's evil' logic..."
This is kinda sad really

A patron deity to all adventurers! We must save it!

I seem to have forgotten that part. Where was it referred to?

All the info we had seems to line up with this being bad mojo, and we did gen into a dangerous situation because of it.

Well, we've come this far so why turn back now? Besides, it did give us a few power-ups.

... Although I don't think our invisible friend is impressed at all.

Alright, you'll do what you can to help the voice for now.

"Yes! Thank you! Unfortunately, I can't keep this link up right now, good luck!"
Peace and quiet!
You wince as the voice practically screeches in your mind. Tobias notices and takes a few steps closer with a concerned look, but you wave him off. Now, you've promised a magical voice to help save it, but how? Well, the first order of business is to get out of this room. Let's see...the majority of the people here are scientists, and Joycelyn could be knocked out without much difficulty with the four of you, but that leaves the guard that was left behi...wait, what are you thinking?! Why was violence the first idea you had? Must be all the adventuring, let's try this again.

Hmm, maybe magic could work? You did make a deal that got you some new spells, but that might make it harder later on if you use mana now, and how would you even explain where you got them? No, you'll have to do this without magic, you've only got the option to manipulate Jocelyn's Ambition, but that'll take too long and there's no guarantee it'll even work. You think for a few seconds about all the things you've learned about the two Divine beings of Curiosity. Ah-ha! This might just work actually. You make your way over to Jocelyn.

"Could I talk with you for a little bit, uh, alone?" you ask.

She quirks an eyebrow, "Why not here?"

"Please, I promise it'll be interesting."

"Hmm," she raises a hand to her chin in contemplation, "alright, why not, come on."

Like before, you step out and she locks the door behind you, you can hear Mira start to say something as you step out, but it cut out as soon as the door closes.

"Hey wait, how come only yo-"

Jocelyn leans against the door as soon as it's closed. "Well, what did you want to talk about?" she asks, before adding, "Door's soundproof."

It's now or never, time to make your case.

"W-well, you know how you said you've been tracking this...'Divine' for a while now?" She nods, so you continue, "Tobias said the Abomination of Curiosity got bored quickly. So wouldn't it have gotten bored?"

She tilts her head to one side. "Okay, but that doesn't matter, we know the symbol."

"B-but Benny never checked anything, what if he remembered it wrong?" you counter.

Jocelyn freezes for a moment. You can almost hear gears turning in her head to find a way to prove you wrong. Eventually she lets out a quick breath.

"Okay, you might actually be right, come with me." She leads you back to the table of researchers, you could swear she bounces a little while she turns around. "Benny! Get over here!"

You see him look up from the table and sigh as his eyes focus on you.

"What now? We're doing work I don't have time for Q and A," he says while rubbing the bridge of his nose in visible annoyance.

"Can it, we aren't here for that. Do you have any record of the Curiosity symbols?"

"I already told you-"

"And I said can it. Do you or don't you?"

You shy away slightly from the authority in her voice, even Benny visibly wilts. "W-well, no, b-"

"And what's the possibility you mis-remembered and got the symbols mixed up?"

"Erm...well...I haven't had access to my notes in a while so anything is-"

"So you sent us out to kill a divine being without being 100% sure it was evil?" Jocelyn points an accusatory finger at Benny's face.

"W-well, given its actions, and I'm pretty sure I remembered right..." he trails off.

Jocelyn breathes in heavily before sighing, "Get back to work and get your notes in order, maybe you'll still have a job when we get back." A shiver goes through your boy from the coldness of her voice, she can be scary when she wants to be. As Benny creeps back to the table in a slump, you are grabbed by the arm and dragged back to the room your friends are being kept in.

"Oi!" she shouts as the door bursts open, "How do you three feel like saving a possible god?"

Tobias, Mira and Liam all stand in place staring at Jocelyn in disbelief. You manage to give them an awkward smile from behind her.

"Erm, wait weren't you-" Mira begins to ask.

"No time. You in or out?" your newest ally interrupts.

After a brief moment of hesitation, three voices ring out in sync, "In!"

Jocelyn gives them a bright smile as they look at each other, somewhat awkwardly due to speaking at the same time, "Let's get going then."

Still holding your arm, Jocelyn leads the four of you to the exit, only for it to be blocked by a hulk of a man stepping in front. He's covered head to toe in gleaming armour, a sword in each hand.

"I was ordered to not allow them all to leave," is all he says. Though with the echo and bass from the armour you're not really sure it's a he.

"So you're gonna let a God possibly die?" Jocelyn asks with a similar coldness to when she spoke with Benny. The guard doesn't waver in the slightest, that might actually be scarier than his size.

"I was ordered to not allow them all to leave," he repeats firmly.

"And I aske-Wait, all. So we gotta leave one of 'em behind?"

The guard doesn't respond, which presumably means yes since he isn't repeating that line.

"Well kid, you're the one who pointed all this out, makes sense you get to choose."

Kid? You're more or less the same age as her! Technically you're way older since you're a goddess...though a case could also be made that you're mentally way younger since you lost your memories... Anyway, that's not relevant! You have to leave someone here, and whoever it is probably won't be happy. Liam or Mira...probably wouldn't mind too much, but Tobias would be mad, but at the same time he's most likely to make the situation wor-

"Haha! Attagirl! Er, sorry for popping in like that, but I have some time that I can spend chatting now. I recommend dropping the cleric."
...Of course you do, he'll be trouble either way, won't he?"

Either her or Liam. I'm not partial to leaving Tobias behind.

Liam is the only front-liner our "party" has. If a physical altercation breaks out, I want to have him with us. We're already a caster, so we should be fine with leaving Mira behind.
