--January 18th--
Her costume was finally ready. Everyone, especially the PR division, was happy to discover that her costume actually managed to store itself away into her dimensional closet and that she could easily switch between her normal clothes and her costume anytime she wanted like she thought she could. Thankfully she had been right about that one when it came to her powers.
Although for some reason, her closet dimension space seemed to tag her costume as "Custom Content", for some reason. So anything she modified or put into her closet dimension that wasn't part of her default Sim clothing wardrobe would end up being tagged as "Custom Content"?
Actually, that was kind of useful. Made searching through her things easy if everything in her pocket space was tagged like that. She wondered if it also worked for build mode. Could she take custom furniture and store it away into her buy mode dimension?
That'd be something she'd have to test out down the road.
But for now, she was being coached by one Miss Adams on what to do for her public debut. Not that she honestly minded, she was unlocking a lot of skills here, such as the acting skill.
--January 26th--
The public debut a few days ago went great. It was very standard as far as meeting the press went. She got to show off her quick-changing outfits trick by coming out in her plainly-dressed civilian form, explaining how she couldn't really hide who she was thanks to the glowing crystal over her head, then spun around in place to reveal her superhero costume, and introduced herself as "Fortia".
She gave off a few fun facts about the real meaning of the name in Latin, and why it was chosen to reflect her powerset. While the main meaning of the name meant Strength, it also meant to steadily get better at things over time… which was what a sim-person was all about. Not that she actually said that last part out loud. It was also another form of "Forte", and She had joked out loud that her forte was to get better at everything than everyone else out there. That didn't get any laughs, although a few people did crack a few smiles at that in the crowd.
It was as she thought, she really needed to level up her comedy skill. Right now, it was still at level one although it was halfway to level 2. sigh.
And after that, she answered a few questions from the press and that was it.
And now that a few days passed after that, it was finally time for her to go on patrol!
Just to be on the safe side, she had leveled up a few in the charisma skill since her first public meeting with the press had made it clear that she needed some work in public relations, despite the PR staff assuring her that she had done a good job relatively speaking. Especially when compared to other capes like Clockblocker.
Speaking of which, it seemed that she was paired up with him today alongside Vista.
She snorted when she realized how much their costumes matched together, making them look like they were part of an actual team together. Clockblocker's costume was all white, while Vista was mostly in all green colors save for her skirt thing which was a mixture of swirling white and green colors. Fortia herself was decked out in both white and green.
"What's got you giggling over there?" Clockblocker wondered, and Fortia shook her head.
"Nothing… just had a weird thought, when I looked at how much our costumes seem to match each other." She said, before joking, "The two of us look like we could be Vista's parents in our outfits even if we're obviously too young to have a 12-year-old child."
[Comedy skill leveled up to 2! You can now tell knock-knock jokes to other sims]
……….
Seriously, what was with those lame unlockable interactions? She just hoped that she got something really good later on besides the lame interactions the more she leveled up.
Clockblocker's face couldn't be seen due to the fact that his entire visor and the helm were opaque and covered all of his head, but Forita got the impression that he was smiling as he exaggeratedly checked Fortia's costume out, looked over at Vista, and then lastly at himself.
He then acted shocked in his exaggerated way, as he said in an overly dramatic way, "Le gasp! You're right, we totally look like a cape family. But, I'm way too young to be a father! Besides You haven't taken me out to dinner yet! I need to be romanced and wooed first before I can think of having kids!"
Fortia just laughed out loud at this, while Vista just rolled her eyes at Clockblocker's antics. Vista was smiling though, so Clockblocker seemed to see that as a win as he flashed the two of them finger guns and thumbs up.
Vista then said, "I fear for your future kids. The dad jokes you'd come up with would be just terrible. You'd kill them just by telling them way too many puns and jokes."
Fortia chuckled at that, while Clockblocker just clutched at his chest as if he had gotten fatally wounded.
"Ouch." He commented.
The crowds nearby who had been blatantly eavesdropping on them chuckled at the play-by-play, and Clockblocker then bowed at them before waving at them. "Thanks for enjoying the show, folks!"
Forita waved back too, although Vista chooses not to for some reason.
For the next following hour, the patrol was mostly uneventful save for some people coming up to do autographs and selfies with the local wards.
The rest of the day on the other hand…. Well, they had been about to complete their patrol when it happened.
That is, they ran into Brandish getting into yet another fight with Marquis.
"Seriously? Again?" Clockblocker groaned out loud.
"This is the fourth time this week," Vista told Fortia, who merely looked confused at his comment.
"You're telling me this happens all the time?" Fortia stared in disbelief as Marquis engaged in some playful banter with Brandish while they dueled with each other, which only seemed to enrage the hell out of her.
"Yup. You see, Brandish has a real hate-on for Marquis, ever since he thoroughly humiliated her and her entire family like a decade ago." Clockblocker explained.
Fortia nodded. "Oh yeah, I read about that. I was too young to remember back then, but I read up about it in class a while ago in middle school. That incident went a long way to redefine a lot of vigilante and parahuman laws."
It was well-known by now that Marquis liked to have body doubles and decoys everywhere so that Marquis was seen in a dozen places at once and you wouldn't know which one was the real thing until it was too late.
But back then, that hadn't been too well-known at all and so the Brockton Bay Brigade had been convinced that they had finally discovered the secret ID of Marquis and gone to storm his house… only to find a frightened father clutching at his five-year-old daughter.
Dr. Micheal Lavere was an orthopedic surgeon, and a fairly timid person when put in stressful situations. The Brigade had stormed in expecting to face off with the great terrible Marquis and thus had been completely thrown off when they found a shivering fearful man crying and sobbing as he held his daughter in a corner.
'Take anything you want, but please don't hurt my daughter! There's a safe upstairs, it has a lot of money in it!' Dr. Lavere had cried hysterically, while he shielded his daughter from harm with his body.
This had been enough to make Sarah Pelham wonder if they got the right person, but Carol Dallon had been very insistent on dragging him into jail. Things had spiraled out of control on there, with the trial being a total circus, especially when Marquis was seen elsewhere committing various criminal acts while Dr. Larvere was in jail.
Carol insisted that Dr. Lavere had to be the real one and that the other ones were just decoys to clear his name and had even handed over all the evidence she had on him. Unfortunately for her, most of it was easily explained away.
Dr. Lavere had tearfully admitted while in a public courtroom that things had been difficult for his family, and that even as a surgeon he couldn't have enough money to cover for his late wife's medical bills AND pay off the montages on his house at the same time. So, he had taken the money to pose as Marquis now and then. He had acted so timidly and shy the whole time that it was hard to imagine him as being the real Marquis to start with, and with Marquis being seen elsewhere that had been enough to doubt that the Brockton Bay Brigade had gotten the real one as they had claimed.
Naturally, the Brigade family had gotten a massive hit to their reputations because of that, and the entire thing had sparked a very intense debate across the nations about whenever it was really appropriate to storm the house of a suspected villain like that… especially if they'd turn out to be wrong on who the actual villain was.
And, there turned out to be cases where it had gone very tragically for both heroes and villains in the same time frame, with a hero accidentally killing a villain's child causing the villain to go on a rampage.
Thus, some of the unwritten rules had became not so unwritten anymore, as there came into laws that would make unauthorized home invasions highly illegal for all parahumans, regardless of their status as a hero or a villain.
And ever since then, Brandish's hate for the villain only seemed to have increased even more to the point of irrationality.
The rest of New Wave (they had rebranded a while ago) had let up on Marquis after he actually saved the life of Fleur, admitting that there were much worse criminals they could be going after. But Carol hadn't brought into the notion that Marquis had just happened to be strolling by in the neighborhood when he saw an Empire Thug break into their house with a gun. Never mind that he openly admitted that he had been stalking them all to learn more about them after they all had unmasked for their movement. He had managed to save Fleur's life after she was shot, but she had unfortunately lost the baby she was carrying at the time.
Sadly for New Wave, news of Fleur's close brush with death was enough to make the movement die down, and it only solidified the reasons why it should be illegal to storm the house of a well-known villain and or hero. It also had caused Fleur to rethink on whenever the movement was actually a good idea or not, and she had moved away from Brockton Bay with her boyfriend Mike Huxley (who was Carol and Sarah's brother) in order to rebrand elsewhere.
There were rumors though that Fleur and Lightstar were no longer together though because Lightstar had apparently returned back to his old name. If true, the reasons behind the breakup were unknown although the public could easily guess why it had happened… reasons ranging from losing the baby to the stress of trying to go back into the superhero closet after you had outed yourself.
Anyways, it was pretty clear that Marquis and Brandish had a lot of history together… with the way he kept on bantering with her like they were old friends, despite the fact that he was throwing bone spikes at her in a way that could easily be lethal.
Vista shook her head. "You call it in, Clockblocker. Fortia and I will do our best to evacuate the area of any citizens so that nobody gets hurt in this crossfire… again."
With that, Fortia and Vista leaped into action while Clockblocker called it in.

A/n: sorry for not updating this in such a long time. My muse is easily distracted with other ideas and went to focus on my other stories instead.
And, it probably doesn't help that I seem to have lost the document listing which skills and things that Fortia had unlocked and which level it is at now. So I'm gonna have to recreate that document from scratch. *sighs*
