But being totally honest? Not Hathor. But consider the Germans looted the DHD because it was smaller and more portable. There's other things that are small and portable enough to be looted from the site, too
Osiris and Isis in their prison jars....fucking hell.

We sit in the silence of the oval office for the better part of five minutes. The hum of the electrics I'm so used to in my own base is completely absent. It's almost difficult to think.

Mr. Truman breaks the silence a few times, to present possible options. I'm so deep in thought myself I can barely give him more than a grunted 'maybe'. Go public first, ignore the bluff, maybe try to keep them silent in some other way. Hell, I'm sure there's probably a way for the president to kick up some kind of stink in the G7 that will force the Russians to delay.

But eventually, I keep thinking back to our only real engagements with Jaffa, with Apophis... Casualties were only ever low because we almost always had the advantage of numbers. I've seen medical reports of Jaffa autopsies that look like bodies made more of bullets than flesh by the time they finally died, and despite the strangeness and inaccuracy of their weapons, damn near every shot they land ends up as a permanent casualty, if not a dead young man entirely. Knowing what I know, and knowing from Teal'c just how much power Apophis, hell, every system lord, has at their command...

Maybe a little help wouldn't be so bad.

"You know, sir... it might not be the worst idea."

Harry focuses his eyes back on me. "Which one?"

"Theirs, sir. Why... might even be like old times... Once we've got it all sorted out, it might be a good idea to include the old Allies."

The President's eyes narrow for a moment, before his eyebrows raise. "Are you suggesting what I think you are, George?"

"Oh, I don't know... I was just thinking it'd be nice to get back together with a few of my friends on the other side of the Atlantic."

"They're going to be furious with us, George."

"Not angry enough to let the whole world burn, sir."

That catches him short. Seems he'd almost forgotten about the other crisis I was here for. "You might lose your post over this, George."

I smile as I see him relax a bit. He's a hard sell, but he's too honest when you've got him across from you. "Never been much for gambling, but I like my odds."

He goes for a red phone on the desk. "Put me through to President Loshenko."

Chu Wei (E76-8OT)
ROLL - Gate Conditions: 55 (Standard gate position)
ROLL - Stealth - Disadvantaged: 11 (Surprised!)
ROLL - First Impressions - Advantaged?: 92 (A warm welcome!)

The gate comes online as scheduled for the half hour check in, and the radio swiftly crackles to life. "General, sir! Away team three and five have missed their fifteen minute check in. We've sent teams one and four to their last reported locations. Looks like they might have stumbled on locals and they got led away, doesn't look like it turned violent. They're not responding on their radios. Orders, over?"

Hmm... "Give teams one and four permission to follow their routes, eyes open and low profile. Don't want to spook anyone. Have them do radio calls every minute, just in case they went out of range at some point. Over."

"Understood sir, over and out."

I have a gut feeling this should go pretty well.

---Later---

"General! The locals seem to be some kind of Asian, maybe Chinese, goin' by the looks of their buildings. They're a few decades behind us, still using rifles that remind my of my family's old civil war stuff, but they're pretty peaceful. They're led by a council of sages, spent a lot of time philosophizing at us in conversation, but I think it went well, we've been invited back!"

Patala (NR7-8ZW) (NIRRTI'S WORLD)
ROLL - Gate Conditions: 41 (Standard)
ROLL - Stealth: 1 (That's... not good)
ROLL - Lightfooted: 86 (But that's okay)
ROLL - Unique Opportunity?: 60 (Got a unit of interesting Jaffa equipment)
ROLL - Returning Home - Advantaged: 64 (Casualties on the board, checking for home response...)
ROLL - Gone too Long: 45 (negate a casualty, losing Cpl. Aaron Baker, Cpl. Marcus Washington)

SG's 3 and 5 miss their first check in, at only fifteen minutes. Given we have that ridiculous Canary Cart of the Colonel's design, I know the planet isn't deadly by itself. I have the gate dialed again by the thirty minute mark.

"Receiving signal from the RV, Sir."

I glance at the video screen, seeing the same thing we saw initially, the canary animatedly chirping away and a background of forests and hills.

"Send the support fireteam through. I want a sweep of the area around the gate immediately."

---Sgt. Marcus Washington, Expedition Leader---

You really want to curse your bad luck. Getting ambushed with some kind of knock-out weapon, your and Joe's teams find yourselves in cages in a Goa'uld base, weapons and sidearms gone, with some big hulking Jaffa standing guard. You've seen enough fights with Teal'c to know you do not want to mix it up with them.

With everyone in the same cell, you and Joe settle in to consider exit strategies. It's only as you're pooling everyone's stuff that you realize the Jaffa didn't take some of the ammo drums and mags, and didn't bother with cigs or matches either. Well, their mistake.

It's less tricky than you're personally happy with for Andy to set off an explosion in the cell door, but you're not going to complain when it gets you freedom, albeit by making a hell of a lot of noise. Joe's team clotheslines the first responders that come rushing in, their heavy armor making them easy targets on the ground, while you have your people looking through everything; apparently the local Goa'uld didn't think they'd get prisoners, and just emptied out a storage compartment to stick your men in it. You get your hands on a few unusual-looking weapons, something that looks like a snake's head, a few modified staff weapons, but your own carbine is nowhere to be seen. You're real mad about it, and you've decide to put some holes in some Jaffa with their own ridiculous weapons as recompense.

The Jaffa apparently have little to no contact protocol, so the first response is the only response to your breakout, and you order the escape, difficult as it is to do from the middle of a base you know nothing about. The portable radios are fried, probably because of the snake's head stun gun they probably used on you (damn thing is nasty, but it didn't do any permanent harm to you, so you make sure the Jaffa are dead by having them head-tapped with the staff weapons after going down). Without the radios, you're loathe to split the teams, but Joe points out it'd be worse for everyone if they caught us together again. Together you work out some knife notch signals, then go your separate ways.

At some point, your team ends up stumbling into some kind of lab, and Aaron, being the unlucky fool he is, triggers a reaction from something that brings the whole base down on your heads, figuratively speaking. Jaffa pour from every access point, it's all the boys can do to use the Jaffa weapons to clear a path forward with hot plasma flying at their backs, before Joe's team comes along side and uses one of their stun grenades to give you just enough breathing room to see the way out. You're still running blind, but we know how the Goa'uld like to camp around stargates, so it's only a matter of time before you find it, but you're running dangerously low on that, with the sun starting to dip low and everyone feeling completely drained from the escape.

You're hiding from the fifth or fifteenth patrol, it's hard to keep count, when someone finally breaks, and shuffles too loud, or can't hold back their yelp when something pokes them bad, and the chase is on again, but your weapons are either low on juice or crapping out, and everyone's running on fumes. Marcus Two takes it first, and you really regret cracking that at least there's a spare Marcus Washington if one of you kicks it. Joe's team lags trying to carry a screaming man along, but you aren't leaving them behind. That's when Aaron gets hit, plasma burning a hole clean down to the bone and blackening it. He's howling and it's too hard to keep going down that many men, so you order everyone to find some cover, expecting to take something with you, at least...

---SGC, Hammond---

"Live fire entry, live fire entry! We're coming in hot command, over!"

I watch as my SG teams run, heads low and chests heaving, escorted through the gate by the fresher men I sent after them. I watch as gurneys carry two boys, so young, back through, barely breathing or dead already, I don't know with the angry wounds on their bodies. I'll come to learn in the next few days that Aaron and Marcus will live, but their injuries are debilitating, severe, permanent. And to know that they're the lucky ones... Damn this secret war.

Ordering a military action this large requires a personal touch. I order the beachhead established, sending hundreds upon hundreds of men and veterans of a world war through. I keep the gate open as long as possible to coordinate.

"Gate secure, gate secure, bring in the heavy guns and get emplacements, we don't want to get caught out before we've had a chance to-" I hear the sounds of staff fire.

"Contact! Contact! On the south ridge! Put fire on that position! We still need time to dig in for the next wave of reinforcements!"

"We're taking a lot of heat here! They just won't let up! I can't get any large guns down, and they've got all these slaves coming right at us! What the hell is going on on this freaky fucking planet?!"

I'm seconds from considering assuming direct command of the assault, this world is too crucial to miss out on, when new reports start coming in. "Explosion one o' clock relative to the south ridge hardpoint! How the hell did that happen?!" A particularly smarmy voice comes through the radio, and I see the Colonel beside me groan. "Hey Jack, dunno why you think it's so hard to fight these aliens. I lose one guy, they lose twenty and an ammo dump! They don't seem to be good enough for you and me, huh? Oh, hey Rowland, shoot the guy with the fancy headdress, yeah, the one in the back of the column."

"Harry, you bastard."

I depart for Hesperides in the interim before the second push to their regrouping point and order an envelopment of their camp. I have to give the Jaffa credit where it's due, they were too stubborn to surrender, down to the last man, and they bled my men for it something fierce on the way. I wanted to stick around for the cleanup, but I had a report to write...

Unknown Element
ROLL - Study Jaffa Gear: 45

Things go smoothly for Dr. Scopelli, a rarity for Unknown Element in general, but the strides the eggheads have made in researching naquadah have given them a lot of missing pieces, or so they say. The Jaffa weapons are still wildly beyond their ability to imitate, with their tiny crystal computers and absurd power output, but they're feeling more confident in their progress understanding the tech. Apparently, the effective range of a staff weapon is pretty limited, only a few hundred meters, before it starts 'decomposing' or so they say. Something to do with instability in the charge shaping that causes it to come apart at just around that distance. Teal'c says there's other weapons that have longer reach, but by and large, Jaffa can only engage within about two hundred meters before their shots start veering off-target seemingly on their own or bursting in midair.

Rainbow Bridge
ROLL - Study the Shipyard: 5

SG-1 and Rainbow Bridge report a snag, some kind of education event or holiday that's forced their hosts to take the area to prepare for events for a while. Jack seems aggrieved about it. "No problem, sir. It's fine. Just a little party while we await our impending doom."

ROLL - FIX IT! - Strongly Advantaged: 82 (Ah, fascinating)
ROLL - Learning from our Mistakes - Advantaged: 97 (An incredible discovery! Whole new worlds of field theory to explore!)

The first I learned anything was even going wrong, the twenty-fourth floor had apparently ceased existing. Things got worse from there, to quote Jack, 'as they always do.' No one had seen hide nor hair of Einstein's entire team since the day prior, when they had reported their plans to do a test activation of the device, with the help of Aaron Baker, whose special abilities with ancient technology and unwillingness to leave the program found him a place in the science department as a guinea pig.

The first solution was to try the emergency stairs, which, upon my personal examination, led directly from the twenty-fourth to the twenty-sixth floor, and even had the exact same number of steps up and down as they did to their other adjacent floors. Naturally, this baffled everyone, and it baffled them even more when a ghost radio signal got picked up by a portable from someone using the elevator a few minutes later.

"Hello? Can anyone out there hear us? We believe that, in activating the device, we have bypassed a safety feature that prevents it's activation in the presence of large quantities of mass. Can anyone hear me? This is John Goodman, of the Relative Space division-"

"Your thoughts, Doctor Carter?" I turn to the lady in question, pulled back from her temporarily defunct study.

The unfocused gaze and parted lips do not fill me with confidence. "Uh, this is... wow! General, this means that we were right!"

"About what, Doctor?" Don't snicker in the corner there, Jack. I know as well as you how asking this question is going to turn out.

"So, Albert's theory of relativity suggests that it's impossible to move faster than light. But he's had other, unproven ideas, sometimes he'd bounce them off in correspondence with me, and one of them that we dismissed in favor of wormhole theory was subspace theory!"

"The most realistic one what, Doctor. Please remember I'm not privy to all that goes on in your mind."

"Sorry, sir, uh, so, Albert was able to prove that you can't go faster than light, in normal circumstances, but things like the stargate mess with the physics of realspace, with powerful fields that effectively pokes two linked holes in space, and sends information through. We had bounced around an idea once, called subspace theory, or pocket universes, suggesting that it's possible to fold or bend space in such a way that parts of space just cease to exist from specific perspectives, letting you, in essence, travel hundreds of miles in a single step, without moving through the intervening space."

I suspect I get the gist of what she's saying. "Or... skipping one floor when walking up the steps."

She positively beams, like I'm a child solving an easy puzzle. "Exactly, General! I think the alien device may somehow be folding space around itself, which would stop us from getting in but, in certain circumstances, still allow some signals to escape. From the sound of things inside, they're trapped, and the device seems to be malfunctioning. The field seems to fizzle out in the presence of lots of concrete or the heavy sector doors."

"And how do you propose we solve this problem, then?"

"Well, from the sound of things the strong force emitted by atoms interferes with the signal, it was probably meant to be used in space to go places more quickly. We might be able to force it to try to incorporate more space by letting the field propagate farther than it can handle."

"Would that even be safe?"

"Well, it could cause the machine to simply short out, or it could overload and, something with that much power... maybe blow up the entire base."

I pinch the bridge of my nose and sigh. "There's nothing else? I can't really admit to the president that I lost a national hero in magical space pocket that makes part of my base not exist, so I have to authorize something, Doctor."

She at least has the tact to look consoling. "If it makes you feel any better, I really don't think it should explode."

"No, doctor. No it does not."

---Later---

It was a crude solution, but eventually we settled on putting a jackhammer to the floor above the pocket and opened the emergency hatch to the surface, in the hopes that the further field would have the go, the more power it would need and thus burn itself out in short order. The fix worked, by some strange miracle, and out of the disappearing floor came a raving Einstein grinning from ear to ear as he rambled on rapidly to Carter about his new hypothesis on how the field worked, and the absurd amount of energy it required to do so.

"Pockets of space that could contain entire universes! Motion through manipulation of space, moving faster than light while entirely still!"

Zig Zag
ROLL - Live Information Extraction: 45
ROLL - Squeezing a little more life out of it: 15

The subject's response to pain stimuli is similar to human norms, though the Goa'uld itself appears to temporarily cede control of the host body in an attempt to block the more extreme induced pain signals from migrating to it's brain. This presents a difficult ethical issue as the host appears to be cognizant of his imprisonment by the Goa'uld, and begged forgiveness for what his body was forced to do that eventually lead to his capture. Regardless, we pushed ahead, with the new hypothesis that specific types of electrical stimulus may cause the parasite's musculature to seize after disconnecting from the host's spinal cord the next time it tried to avoid severe pain stimulus, potentially allowing us to extract it safely.

Addendum: The creature appears to alter the host's biochemistry, strengthening it's host noticeably and giving it enhanced regenerative properties. See: Escape attempt #3, Post-Experiment #5 health examination.

Unfortunately, the parasite seems to have deduced the plan when the first test of sustained current failed, and opted to cause spontaneous brain death in the host through the use of a potent neurotoxin we managed to secure a sample of from the corpse.

Truth Seeker
ROLL - Innovator: 100 (Uhh...)

I'd heard some relatively funny cracks about the stubborn insanity of the Poles through the course of the war, stemming from a few nazi propaganda pieces of men armed with lances charging at tanks on horseback, but Doctor Kebetnik is an especially rare breed of mad scientist. Apparently feeling inspired by the research coming out of Andana, he set about prototyping a gravatic field emitter, in the hopes of emulating the artificial gravity and inertial dampening technologies employed by the Goa'uld motherships.

Somehow, beyond all reason and sense, the initial prototype saw actual success, and catapulted gravity theory into the realm of practical engineering. Despite the fact that the emitted field was somewhat unstable, relatively weak, power-hungry, and prone to human-hazardous fluctuations and what the eggheads dubbed 'shear', the development has left the entire base's scientific cadre dumbfounded, and the world at large practically catatonic as they try to fit Doctor Kebetnik into their new canon of celebrity science alongside Einstein.

Unfortunately, his insane invention, as utterly impractical and basically useless as it is, has drawn worldwide scrutiny on the Cheyenne mountain site, and unfortunately the official cover story of 'advanced aeronautic radar research' is not deflecting nearly enough as we had ever planned for.

---United Stargate Command---

My first meeting with my peer, and Russian liaison officer, Androv Lashenko, goes passably well. I resisted the urge through the whole meeting to shoot him in the chest, and he resisted the urge to boast and pontificate too much about how they had us over a barrel, especially after Kebetnik's little showcase.

I didn't so much mind the actual men on the ground, but Lashenko did explain that the deal made with the President would ensure his team got regular rotations off-world...

+2 SG Teams, +1 Platoon, Add The Russian Element as a Sister Agency (The Russians are wildly untrustworthy, but you have to appease them somehow. They demand any of materials, knowledge, or mission time from you regularly, and failing to provide it may cause trouble for you. The Russian Element has an opinion meter that gauges their general disposition towards you and your command that behaves similarly to Steam)

---World News---

POPULAR MECHANICS - DOCTORS IVAN KEBETNIK AND ALBERT EINSTEIN, MILITARY THINK TANK DREAM TEAM
An unprecedented invention has taken the world by storm, fresh out of the military complex at Cheyenne mountain where we recently reported the fabled Doctor Einstein had accepted a position. Doctor Ivan Kebetnik, Polish expat and relative unknown in scientific research, seems to have taken recent papers produced by Einstein as a challenge to prove, and has created an anti-gravity device. Eastern bloc powers have pointed to the complex as the obvious site of a highly advanced military research base and all but demanded the technology be released publicly, a demand echoed doubly by the United States' allies. One thing is for sure, this dream team probably isn't done wowing us yet!

RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR ARRIVES IN US WITH ESCORT
A major Russian diplomat has been seen in Washington, D.C., and rumors are flying about the purpose of the visit. Despite the grim countenance of the diplomat, talks appear to be going very well, as the Russian escort was seen meeting informally with members of the U.S. military, and exclusive pictures have been taken showing two opposing generals, one American Airforce blue and one Soviet Army red, being ushered into the white house for a rumored meeting.

PRESIDENT TRUMAN ANNOUNCES AN ERA OF COOPERATION
On the heels of a major Russian diplomatic visit, President Truman recently dismantled the CIA, declaring in an address to Congress that the mistrust and heavy-handed diplomacy of the post-war world had to come to an end if conflicts were to avoided in the future. Waxing poetic, a rare moment for the normally blunt President, he declared that a new diplomatic effort would be made to "usher in a new, more unified, more peaceful era among Mankind."

---March Facility Plan---

People are a little upset about the addition of a few Russian teams on-base, but morale is higher than ever after dislodging a full Jaffa fortification on Hesperides.

Teal'c comes to me early in the month, with trepidation. He tells me about his young and lovely bride, who he misses very much on Chulak. He also lets slip the possibility of other Jaffa like him, who harbor doubts about their gods, his 'master' and military teacher among them. He suspects that Apophis will not suspect a small group of your men being inserted planetside with him as a guide to extract his wife and get inside intelligence on Apophis' movements.

It's a very tempting offer...

Generating (4) Cartouche missions per month (ALERT: The cartouche is now more than 75% translated. You should attempt to locate another source of new worlds soon to explore more)

You now maintain a significant offworld presence as well as several diplomatic contacts and an international division, and have been given leave to form a new subordinate office
[] [SO] Office of Off-world Logistics - May take a no-slot, free mission to worlds you currently occupy or maintain sites at each month.
[] [SO] Office of Diplomatic Missions - May take a no-slot, free mission to worlds you have long-term diplomatic relationships with each month.
[] [SO] Office of Interplanetary Discovery - May take a no-slot, free mission to worlds you have not yet explored or have not explored in the last year, each month.
[] [SO] Office of Interplanetary Settlement - May begin preparing a world for explicit settlement by certain Earth factions (currently the USA).

The benefits of this choice take effect immediately

Command Approach:
[] [CA] Harsh - Lose steam, take up to four offworld missions, gain bonus to Fireteam effectiveness
[] [CA] Normal - Regular operation conditions with three offworld missions
[] [CA] Relaxed - Gain steam, take two offworld missions, Fireteams may not arrive on time for support requests

Company Orders:
Abydos Base - You have command of a company, which is tasked by it's captain to man the Abydos base full-time, with rotating leave. This occurs automatically, without voting. (Alpha Company)

Retirement Fund Operation - This company is primarily composed of engineers, tasked with collecting valuable minerals native to the planet. This occurs automatically, without voting. (Bravo Company)

Occupation Forces - This company is tasked with controlling unrest on the planet Hesperides, primarily composed of distrusting slaves and Jaffa guerillas. This occurs automatically, without voting. (Charlie Company)

Platoon Orders:
Cartouche Missions - The platoon on this duty will take recon missions to the addresses on the Abydos Cartouche.

Fireteam Support - The platoon on this duty will be stationed at Abydos to act as a support team on missions that radio in for additional firepower.

Establish Offworld Outpost on [planet] - The platoon on this duty will take a medium-term mission to a previously explored planet that has an Opportunity on it to study, mine, or otherwise manage it.

Assault [planet] - The platoon on this duty will be sent to raid a known enemy world.

Land Claim Efforts - The platoon on this duty will be sent to Hesperides to construct fortifications and prepare ground in the event of the loss of Earth.

Humanitarian Efforts - The platoon on this duty will be sent to Hesperides to construct better housing and other living amenities for the locals, hopefully enough that they'll be less onerous.

Squad Orders:

Cartouche Missions [address] - The squad will take recon missions to the addresses on the Abydos Cartouche.

Deep Recon [planet] - This squad will take a deep recon mission on a previously explored planet.

Study Site on [planet] - This squad will provide protection for a short term scientific study of a previously explored planet with an Interest on it.

Diplomatic Engagement on [planet] - This squad will act as delegates or ambassadors with known neutral or friendly aliens on their planets.

Infiltration on [planet] - This squad will gain intel on enemy operations on known enemy worlds.

Assault [planet] - Squads can't do this unless assigned together with other squads, or platoons. More flexible on the offense.

Scientific Focus:

Establish Offworld Outpost on [planet] - The lead scientist believes this site may have vast opportunities for research. Necessary to exploit a Knowledge-oriented Opportunity.

Study Site on [planet] - The lead scientist believes this site may be useful for research purposes. Have to provide squad escort. (NOTE: Unless specified, sites are limited in capacity to a single division)

Present Theoretical Papers - This division's studies have produced papers that can viably be disseminated to the public, with some obfuscation of the source. Costs 2 Knowledge, improves Earth technological level, might increase U.S. Stability.

Present Practical Advancements - This division's studies have produced tangible new advances that can be disseminated to the public. Improves U.S. Power, might increase U.S. Stability, might increase Steam. Costs 1 Power and 3 Knowledge (theoretically behind penalty).

Develop SGC Assets - This division's focus on project advancement has borne fruit. Currently might produce anything, but chances are good that based on current research it will be energy related. Costs all knowledge, more equates to greater success chance. Failures refund the cost and may give more knowledge. Success will also likely result in improved Earth tech and U.S. Power/Stability.

Study Alien Technology - This division focuses on captured alien devices in an attempt to determine the theory behind their function, or at least the practical use of it. Needs unstudied Power (currently 6), generates Knowledge, lessens the chance that captured alien devices backfire if used.

Reverse-Engineer Technology - Ambitiously attempt to determine the theory behind alien technology with destructive research. Needs alien Power (currently 6), very likely to generate more Knowledge than study, might explode (or worse), might immediately result in Steam, loss of Pressure, or a significant increase in U.S. Power.

Hammond's Desk:

Request funding [Steam X] - Ask the President for more money. He'll expect more from you, too. Grants a chunk of Steam immediately, increases Pressure gain for a while.

Request manpower [Companies X/Platoons X/Squads X] - Ask the President for more men. Easier to part with, harder to maintain security. Grants more teams in your command, but may trigger oversight, or information leaks, if you overuse it.

Request additional nuclear devices - Ask the President for more bombs. Grants a boost to Power, increases Pressure a lot if you have more than one of these at a time.

Have more experts read in [Steam/Pressure] - Ask the President for permission to headhunt more people for science divisions. Get a science division, either by squeezing your men a bit to fit them on payroll, or in conjunction with a funding request.

You can request each item multiple times, but additional manpower and science divisions quickly run up against diminishing returns due to the strict needs for secrecy during the Cold War.
You use Companies to man permanent offworld sites or organize large invasions. Platoons are used to project a lot of power in one place or do significant mapping expeditions, but they're not very friendly looking, and are unwieldy with gate travel. Squads don't have a ton of firepower, but are pretty hard to pin down, and make good diplomats and recon teams.
Science divisions should rarely, if ever, have no active project. If you have inactive teams, you don't need more.

Oh damn, I forgot to add the Hesperides flavor. Added now.

And corrected an interesting BBCode error

I'm just super glad we didn't lose Einstein to any explosions, otherwise this turn seemed to go pretty well.

You don't have that much direct control of the course of politics. You do, however, have all the soft power of being in charge of the only artery humanity has to the stars.
And cultivating a dependence on the wonders that flow through it, and the interdependence that comes with gate-peripheral assets being paid into it from other polities, should incentivize people to sit down and play cards with one another. Sure, most of them are going to be cheating... often blatantly... but it will get harder and harder for them to justify kicking over the poker table and trying to beat your skull in with a chair leg. Which was arguably the alternative considering the level of fear and antipathy out there.

Its dangerous and complicated but its a valid approach.

And fortunately, our words seem to set things so that we will likely see more allies being brought in, though that gravity crit may force the US to reveal us to the world sooner than they may have liked...

Waxing poetic, a rare moment for the normally blunt President, he declared that a new diplomatic effort would be made to "usher in a new, more unified, more peaceful era among Mankind."
...Between the talk with the president and having one of our scientists becoming a celebrity overnight...
Yeah.

Yeah.
...yeah, indeed. Was not expecting the polish mad scientist to get such a good roll in conjunction with the good final result on Einstein's space folder, having so much knowledge floating around meant I had to put out a comparatively high end, if impractical, tech to the public eye, at the same time you got Truman onside to start slowly easing the other nations into the SGC. You might see some hiccups as he tries to sort out how to let people in slowly when they're all but screaming to be first, and you just know the Russians are going to smug it up in the meantime internationally.

As a silly aside, the Swiss are most upset that you've upstaged their efforts to be the Mecca of physicists.
Is there a moratorium?

I would say either logistics or diplomatic office, but I prefer diplomatic.
No moratoriums with me. It's been several hours regardless.

tried to keep the Russians in the loop, and double(or however many 6 groups is) down on our back up world, built things for locals and us. Sent diplomats and deep scout. I mostly want this world to work out because having a way to save a lot of people will make the bosses happy, and they have Naquada

Also sent Sg-1 with back up to Chulak to see Tealc's teacher, maybe get some better idea how to save us

as for research, time for weapons grade danger, and Einstein can make something useful

Let me know if you guys want to change anything

I have a question, since the Russian threat was resolved.
[] We should get the jump on them and tell people first. Hell, we're all gonna die this year if we don't, right?
Wouldn't this action have been promoting an action with a very real risk of sparking the Cold War 2.0 thanks to two sides forming, beleiving the other compromised by the Goa'uld like I assumed during that vote?

3 of these allow one more mission of a specifiic type but the 4th allows a new type of operations creating off world bases might make it harder for our enemies to find earth as there are more steps between where our teams leave from and earth.

With our low steam i think we should do normal operations for a turn so missions to three worlds:
Hesperides as the main focus
Infiltration on Chulak the sooner this is done the better the odds his familiy is ok.
Lets have the Russians do the third mission to show them they are a part of the program and a Cartouche Missions would be best i think.

That part about "shear" makes me hope we could weaponize the fuck out of it. Imagining the look on the system lords faces if/when we shove that shit into a missile and fire it at one of there ships and then watching said ship just suddenly rip in half on impact makes me smile.

It had a significant risk of angering the Russians, but they would be forced to concede the risks once you let them see available footage (Naturally, the gate room is always recorded by the latest video recording technology (that ran the program upwards of fifty thousand dollars). They'd still probably be mad afterwards though, and the US would probably get bullied into accepting international oversight by literally everyone (You idiots got us invaded!).
@Powerofmind How did explaining to the Russians that we have an alien invasion on the way go?
Will get to see that next update.

It bears specific mention that the fourth office specifically allows settlement. You can already create military defenses and permanent presences, this office would be a civilian coordination center.
We have an anti-gravity device.

We have an anti-gravity device.

Oh boy.
I did try to lend specific warnings that it's quite underdeveloped. Even highly expensive and impractical uses for the field generator are going to take a pretty significant amount of time, though you might be able to weaponize the shearing effect from the unstable first gen emitter inside of the ultimatum deadline with some reasonable rolls.

We don't need to weaponize it, just make it big enough to launch Nuke Laser Sats to at least knock out several dozen ships.

The basic physical principles are... astounding. Artificial gravity - and anti-gravity - is, if we're able to stabilize it, a tremendous boon. If we're able to understand and use Naquadah for the power generation, we're probably going to be improve our spacelift capability massively. This isn't a short-term goal; but gravitic vectors are pretty close to ULTIMATE POWAAAH. I'm really looking forward to our science crew doing crazy shit with it.

Let's not talk about Einstein's pocket dimension, that's a whole other can of worms...

His new pet theory is the "pinhole space", the idea that with a great enough gravitational force and the application of space folding, an imitation universe could be made to "burst" into existence, and then trickle-fed back through the pinhole basically forever as a power source, as the sub space within would theoretically attempt to continuously expand just as ours does.
