Multiverse: Paying The Price

"I can read your mind. No it's not a trap. I've learned a lot with my deals with Humans and other Mortals. You all need a place to rest and a place of protection. The Citadel is a mostly empty city with a few guards, servants, farmers and the old man you saw. I'll just say that you're all a lot more important in Dawn Citadel than you are in your little mortal lives. You all have land rights to the Citadel, and I suggest you make use of it. You'll need it."
...wait he could read my mind all along...
Also...fixing us out of the goodnes of his heart. Hah, good joke. He just wants to make sure he wins his bet with...however else has Rob as their last name in this place.
I see, with a cocky smirk that I am not feeling. Quite frankly? Fighting proffesional murders is not the most pleasent thing to be doing, especilay for the amusement of who ever this arse Q is.
Wel...fuck

"That's... Good? I honestly thought that we would be on the run on the streets, always evading pursuers..."

I trailed off, perfectly conscious that it still was a possible outcome, if things went south.

"That assumes we have enough soldiers to hold the citadel, which also assumes the citadel isn't just a village with a fence around it and a 'do not enter' sign." As soon as I blurted that out I realized that such pessimism really didn't help the situation. Sheepishly scratching the back of my head I hastily continued, "But I'm sure we can improve on that. As soon as we're back, I think something like scouting the immediate area would be a good idea. Aside from general information about our surroundings, it should also tell us how much of our knowledge from our 'old' - so to speak - lives holds up and how much is different. For example, that old man was a final fantasy black mage, but we don't know which final fantasy world we're in or if this world is even one of the world's from the series' canon." Having said that, I continue with less enthusiasm and with my voice practically dripping with uncertainty, "...I suppose I volunteer to lead the scouting party, if need be. No offense to either of you but you guys aren't decked out in heavy plate like I am. Not gonna pretend I know what I'm doing, but since I'm apparently a tank or fighter archetype, I may as well make myself useful in some way right?" I smile weakly at the end. I really REALLY wasn't looking forward to go out into an unknown world, especially with nothing but instinct and memories to rely on, but I was the man....rat with the armor and the weapons, the least I could do was tank hits for the others. We were all in this together, as far as I was concerned.

I look at the rat, raise my brow (Which is, ofcourse, followed by a katakana sound effect. Those them things are everywhere). "I might not appear to be built for battle, but this body fought what amounts to super vampires. In its youth, yes, but this body is entirely the same as normal Oldseph, it seems. That and my [Hermit purple] could allow us to get atleast a basic map of our serounding. We can plan further from there." I look at Q "I take it we wil be leaving soon?" You damn voyeur of the mind.

"Guys, I admit that I am not the most armored guy here..." Euphemism of the century, as I was a stiff breeze away from being naked.

"But I can assure you that I can keep myself in a fight, once I am acclimatated to my powers."

Mana was already circling inside me, ready to explode out. And there was so much of it that I was wondering how this body could hold it in.

Wait...are some of my words getting brackets...I am a jojo character, I should have seen this coming.

JoJo series hamon and stands, makes sense (well not really, but I'm also a rat). Other guy seems like a mage, and a final fantasy one at that, pretty powerful to put it mildly. "Good to hear. I have a bad feeling we'll need every ounce of power we can muster. By the way, we never did introduce ourselves. I'd give you my name, my human name, but I just tried to recall it..." And indeed, I did try to recall it, only to get a pounding headache for my troubles, "...and I promptly got a migraine for my troubles. Uhh...call me 'The Storm-vermin' or Stormy, or Vermin, or some variation thereof, your call. If you have a better name, I'm all ears." I give a friendly wave to my fellow unfortunates.

Jojo.

Ok, he should be okay.

"Nice to meet you. You can call me either Ulti or Yuki, your choice. Also yes, I'm from Final Fantasy. Altough a bit genderbent."

I opened my eyes, realising that I was very much not where I was when I went to sleep. I was standing up for one, and I was wearing a... helmet? Raising my hand to my face confirmed that there was a solid metal shell around my head, angled around the viewport that I was looking out of.

I looked down at the rest of my body, finding myself wearing black and gold robes over armour, all looking fairly familar...

Can't be. I thought. I held out my left hand, palm up, and after a moment of hesitation called "Ghost?" Almost instantly, a small white robot materialised above my hand, floating.

"Guardian Helios?" it droned, center "eye" blinking as it spoke. It took me a moment to realise that it was speaking to me.

"Me? I'm uh, Helios?"

"Affirmative."

"And you're my Ghost?" I asked tentatively.

"Affirmative." It replied, still monotone.

"And uh, where are we, exactly?" I asked, finally looking around me, finding myself in some sort of... castle?

Its center light flashed briefly before it replied. "Information not available."

"Okay..." This was weird. The Ghosts I remembered were fully sentient, with their own individual quirks and personalities. This one was just acting like a machine. "Do I have a ship?"

"Negative."

"Sparrow?"

"No Sparrow currently patterned for transmat." No speeder bike for me I guess.

"Alright. Uh, thanks." The Ghost just stared at me impassively. I closed my hand and the floating robot dematerialised.

I took a deep breath, and turned ahead, where I could see several other figures at the end of the hallway, already in conversation.

I didn't seem to really have any other options at the moment, so I walked towards them and raised my hand in greeting.

"Hello?" I said cautiously.

At the cautious greeting, my head jerks towards where the voice came from. Judging from the armor, Q stole this dude's powers and equipment from a sci-fiction/fantasy universe. Hopefully this was a friendly. I didn't think Q was enough of a dick to make us ineffective just because of a tech gap, but you never know. I wave the guy over and greet him, "Hey there. Went to bed as a normal human, woke up with new powers and gadgets as well? User on Sufficient Velocity and/or Space Battles?"

"Hrm, I seem to have the same problem as our storm vermin, I cannot recall my old name. So...just call me Jospeh Joestar, I guess. I easier that way. I mean...I do recall my SV/SB usernam but that is kind...unfitting for our current circumstance." I standard [pondering] again and turn to storm vermin "Speaking of names, maybe you call youself tempest? I mean, it is just another name for storm but sounds more personable then 'storm vermin'."

"Hello?" I said cautiously.
I hear clacking of shoes and turn around, realising we are in the castle again...damn Q is rather sneaky it seems.
I turn to my two current companions "It seems that someone else is here...lets hope he is not one of the bounty hunters..." I turn around again and look at the armoured invidual "Hello?" He -I presume atleast- asked. I looked at his direction and said "Wel hello young man, if your here that means to things. Option one, your here to kill either me or my companions, in that case, bring it on. ([meancing-meancing-meancing]) Option two, however, means that like us you just woke up and lost and confussed. Long story short some asshole named Q abducted us for a wager he made and now we are being hunted by nut job bounty hunters. Congratulations. On the bright side, you are cured of any ailments you had..." I can't help but stand akwardly and shrug. Q did mention there would be a replacement for someone named 'the wizard'.

Jojo. Yup, I was right.

"Hello?" I said cautiously.

And then we were back into the castle.

Stormy was pretty fast to react to the newcomer, but Jojo was equally fast.

I kinda wanted to tell Joseph he might be overthinking things, since on one hand if high-tech was hostile he probably would've attacked us right away, but there was the horrifying option that our 'hunters' were also people plucked out of their normal lives, given powers and then told to kill a bunch of people if they wanted their freedom. I suppose better safe than sorry. In any case better let Joseph do the talking. I was a giant rat-man and Yuki was dressed in, and had an air about him, that would probably invite sneers and assholes, which was unfortunate since he seemed to be a decent enough guy.

Just to be on the safe side, I swish my tail around in a hopefully random manner before reaching into my side compartment with it to grab my hidden sword.

I turned to the older-looking man in disbelief. "Q? Like, from Star Trek? The "I'm gonna put Humanity on trial to amuse myself" guy? Well thats just great."

I chuckled at that question because... Well, ROB. The day one of them would answer clearly to an answer would be the day they stop using people to their amusement.

That would be never, in case you didn't understood this.

"We have been healed and given magic powers to the noble and lofty goal of... Surviving. To make Q here win a bet or something like that."

I smiled, full of teeth, and gestured to our surroundings.

"He also granted us a citadel of our own to manage. Think Skyhold from Dragon Age: Inquisition. I think it's something similar. Oh..."

I turned, so that I could look at them all without moving the head too much.

"...I would like a lot of statues in it."

With no explanation whatsoever, obviously.

"I suppose its too much to hope that we can just take the Sisko route, and punch him in the face to make him go away." I muttered to myself. I shook my head briefly before turning back towards Q. "So you just want us to hold the Castle against all the assassins that you'll be sending after us? Thats it?"

I was already suppressing my laughter before he even ended his sentence.

"I forgot to mentions that we qre also on another world and it's quite unclear if we will be sent on a multiverse voyage. After all..."

And my smile was in full force.

"...being holed behind walls while waiting for the enemies to come for us would be boring, wouldn't it?"

And my question was directed to Q, who was staying relatively silent in all this exchange.

@Janus.

@Janus

"Speaking of our new home, this 'Dawn Citadel', you said we have a motley collection of guards and villagers living here? Do they know who we are - beyond just being the Masters of the Citadel - and more importantly does the outside world know of the Citadel. I imagine it'd be a bit problematic if one day due to a snap of your fingers, whichever polity or polities lie close by suddenly have a foreign fortress dropped in their lap."

"Speaking Of, I do believe you have your first visitor dropping by in a few moments. I would get ready if I were you." With that, Q promptly disappeared.

Joseph stared as the [meancing] katakana started multiplying like rabbits. "Wel, that isn't ominious at all"
I turn to Helios "Although that probally means your an ally, I presume."

As 'Q' disappears, I stare at the space it used to occupy in disbelief. "Well that's a fine host. Yanks us out of our lives, tells us we're all just a bet and deadly hunters are set to cross our paths and then just leaves. Prick."

Joseph stared as the [menacing] katakana started multiplying like rabbits. "Well, that isn't ominous at all"
I turn to Helios "Although that probably means you're an ally, I presume."

"Too ominous for my tastes....well assuming our 'first visitor' bothers to talk, here's my suggestion. Joseph takes the lead with either Helios or I as backup, assuming you're fine with this guys. Yuki, not saying you can't give and take in a fight, on the contrary you might be the one with the most tricks up their sleeve among us. Which is precisely why I don't want you where they can get at you easily. Whoever doesn't go along with Joseph can bring up the rear with Yuki."

As I finish, I hesitate for a moment. I want what few tricks I have on me at all times, but Joseph has his hamon, Helios in his tech getup should have multiple weapons of their own, which leaves Yuki. Spells are incredible, but what if they get taken by surprise?...Alright then... I'm not losing these few comrades I have so soon. I grab my short sword/long dagger, which I've decided to call Snikch. It's a good weapon, finely balanced with an incredibly sharp edge and durable to boot with powerful poisons on it. I offer the sword to Yuki.

"Here, Yuki. In the off chance someone takes you by surprise, I'm making sure you have something more than your fists. This is Snikch, my poisoned blade. You take care of yourself and gut anyone that looks at you wrong, alright?"

I... Honestly didn't expected this. The way Tempest approached the situation was something that I rarely saw in my day to day life.

And offering me a weapon? Well, that was completely unexpected.

I took the short sword(?) with care. I have absolutely no idea how to use this.

"I'm honestly grateful for your help. Allow me to give something in return."

With my hand, the one that it wasn't holding the weapon, raised over my head I called my magic. It answered like I had just opened a dam, it's energy flowing around me.

"Protectga"

Shimmering shields of magical energy swirled in existence around me, before materializing around the others.

"These will block physical blows or, if not block, at least weaken the hit. Hope it will be enough."

@Yuki no Yue @Lizard Knight @Spectre558 @Janus

Hrm, enemy wil near soon with no way to know who the bastard is and what they are planning...wait a moment!
My eyes widen as unslung my backpack (almost forgot about it) and rummage inside of it. If he gave us equipment and me this bag something must be...there!

Smirking, I pull out a poleriod camera and hold it above my head as one would hold a mighty weapon. Which, in my hands, it kind of is. "Oh yeah, now we're talking. Time to figure out how our mysterious 'guest' is...!" I walk up to a table and place the camera on it. I summon [Hermit purple] around hand as I grab the camera again (but keep it on the table). Then I activate my [Hermit Purple]'s spirit photography, focusing on whatever thread is after us.
If the person is close, I'll get a clear picture of their current location, if not, I wil know who is after us. As my the [stand] energy flows through the camera, before it breaks apart with a loud tearing sound, spitting out a single picture.
While the picture clears up, I look at my companions. I wonder which of them has the ability to see my [stand]?

The person is less than one square miles away from the Citadel. It is some kind of furry little dwarf. A female at that, carrying a magical staff. It's . . . "SHANTOTTO!" Within moments of finding out who this mysterious visitor is, she will be at the very gate of the Main Keep.

I grab the poleriod and study the picture. On is a woman With a staff standing infront of a door...our door If I am not mistaken. "OH SHEIT" I exclaim, before handing the picture over to Yuki. "Yuki, this is our oppenent, from the clothing I would presume She is your field of expertise." I say before grabbing a random Ink bottle and paper (I mean, it is a castle, they must be around here somewhere). After I find them, I channel [Hermit purple] through the ink bottle. This causes the ink to explode onto the paper, the ink forming a map of the keep, round glass fragments representing the location of all the people I am aware of, their names on glass circles (Me, Helios, Yuki, Tempest and our guest). I turn to my companions (sound-effect:[Menacing-Menacing-menacing]) "Alright people, Because of my [Hermit purple] I am able to reveal the location of our guest, of She moves this glas fragment wil love too. In other words, we can prepare an ambush." I turn to Yuki "Any clue Who this woman is, and more importantly, how to defeat her?"

"Shantotto? I think she was a character in FFXI, but I didn't play it. I only know that she is a powerful witch and can use magical explosions, but that's it."

There could be a way to defeat her...

"Well, I think I have a plan, but I would like to hear from everyone else first.
