Monsters and Masks (Persona 5/Bleach Quest)

[X] Coordinate with Kurosaki and then
-[X] Bait it into attacking you (uncanny dodge)
-[X] Use Down-Shot
-[X] Exploit Opening
-[X] It snuck up on you and made you unable to hear Rukia's warnings, be wary of it messing with your perception. Have Rukia keep track of it and shout its location at you.

Wait, Uncanny Dodge doesn't let you dodge things better, it just stops you from being caught flat-footed.
Uncanny Dodge: Never be caught flat-footed at the start of an encounter, at the expense of not being able to make a battle plan until after the first round if you would be flat-footed.
Admittedly, the 5+ to anything requiring quick, decisive action would probably apply to dodging, but Uncanny Dodge wouldn't help.

Actually, Uncanny Dodge explicitly does help with dodging surprise attacks. I'm using "flat-footed" in the Pathfinder sense of "you don't get your DEX (or in this case AGI) to Dodge checks". Essentially, Uncanny Dodge was exactly what stopped you from getting clubbed and made you resolve an entire round of action with no input whatsoever.

Essentially, UD will help you whenever someone would otherwise get the drop on you, but not with mid-combat invisibility shenanigans or flanking until you find some way to train it and make yourself better at it. A proper Rogue or Barbarian in Pathfinder can react flawlessly to anything up to and including invisible snipers, and that's exactly what Akira could become capable of later on. Thus me calling it Uncanny Dodge.

Those perception checks were to notice the Grand Fisher, but you bombed them so hard you failed to notice it and its trap.

I worded that badly, I think, I meant that Uncanny Dodge wouldn't work in the context they were trying to apply it, since baiting something into attacking you implies you're prepared to be attacked.
That said, if those rolls continue, we're gonna need it.

Right, I misread it. Never mind then.

Yeah, but the idea was to use it to help in regular dodging, not from a surprise attack.

How annoyed was Grand Fisher?

[X] Realize that you weren't in any danger until Rukia noticed the Hollow.
- [X] Come to the Conclusion that the creature must not have existed until Rukia pointed it out, and if everyone ignores it, it will stop existing again.
- [X] Be very very distracting and make everyone stop paying attention to the monster.

Don't have any better ideas, so I'll hop on the bandwagon too.

I spent like 3 days on this thing and then SV ate my draft. :|
Have Revision 2: I wrote this once before and I can damn well do it again.

Also. I've been using my physical d100 for this one because I had it with me when I was writing and I didn't wanna mess with SV. You rolled a 1 on PER/LCK. Ichigo rolled 1 on PER/LCK. Rukia got a 15. Hilarity ensued, at least from my perspective. See if you can guess where it is.
Oh yes, that was awesome. Good on ya. As for losing the draft, doesn't SV have a script thing that auto-saves those? I keep them disabled myself to avoid memory bloat and use the Form History Control or Lazarus extensions for Firefox, but neither of them are going to work with the new "more secure" extension architecture rolling out with the November version update, and the only alternatives I've found (Simple Form History, FormSave, Textarea Cache Lite) are very early in development. Since Classic Theme Restorer is going to irrecoverably break due to the change, I may well switch to Waterfox or just never update Firefox again and use Chrome or something if I actually need a secure browser...

Google Docs, is your friend, unless you're writing Stand-wielding Italians~

I was talking about the "snuck up on you and made you unable to hear Rukia's warnings" part.
It's reasonable to believe that in character, so I have no problem with it even if it's obviously false with outside knowledge. Better, even, to be acting based on the IC information and reactions.

Ah, that part. I'll admit it, I haven't actually read Bleach itself (just fanfics and quests) so I guess that's accidentally in-character.

The problem there is that Akira heard "Stop ignoring me, dammit!" in Grand Fisher's voice, and from Grand Fisher's direction. Unlike the readers, it's not likely that Akira would interpret that as something Rukia said, so Akira has no reason to believe that he's been missing any warnings from Rukia.

Right, I guess I misread that part. Editing my vote. Again.

It is messing with the group's perceptions, though - using fog and some kind of invisibility, so that's still something to watch out for. Probably obvious enough not to need pointing out, though, unless someone has a good idea for countermeasures.

Oh boy I get to share Shenpai

Her videos are hilarious, I recommend them.

As for the Velvet Room pics, I liked up Blue Velvet or Blue Room on Pintrest. Future plans for blue velvet furniture have been acquired.

Can I Throw it Back?
"Rukia, fall back and focus on calling out any more of those sneak attacks!" You order as you move back into the fog, letting Ichigo take aggro for a few seconds while you take stock of the area. Ichigo really needs some swordsmanship pointers: he swings that sword around like he's going to bludgeon someone to death with it. Unfortunately, you don't know who to talk to about it. You can't do it. Morgana and Haru both used proportionate weapons, but Haru used an axe and Morgana is a cat. Bit of a disconnect there.

Clearly, there's one person here who knows how to attack and defend, and has the capability to do such. And it's you.

Shit. This is gonna hurt.

"Ichigo, back off and wait for an opening!" You call, striding forward towards the sound of sword striking claw, your third eye interpreting the sounds as red rings spreading through the air from the origin point. As long as you keep focused, the fog shouldn't impair you overmuch. Ichigo drops back as the Hollow swings its claws, and you fire three bullets into the offending appendage. Three smoking holes in the meat of a spiritual paw and a howl of pure, distilled rage are your reward. So the torso is more resistant to bullets than the hands. Unfortunate for him.

Now that you've taught it to fear your weapon, the game begins, picking out vulnerable areas through the fog and counter-attacking them, discouraging recklessness through sheer conditioning. Some people would engage in banter in a fight like this. You're not one of them. You don't fight fair; if a Phantom Thief fights, they tear their opponent apart.

It's just too bad you can't see if a cluster of rounds to the mask would be fatal. Instead, you start on your own offensive, forcing the Hollow to retreat into the most with a series of painful shots and grazes. The mist seems to thicken around you, cutting off your vision even with the Third Eye. You don't know where anyone else is, but another familiar voice echoes through your head. Specifically, the deep laughter of Arsene.

"What's so funny?" You ask your other self.

"This impudent fool thinks he can tresspass in our mind. What would you have me do, Akira?"

You're being mind-whammied! You aren't sure what's being done, but you know what you can do about it.

[] Have Arsene kick him out. This is your mind.
[] Have Arsene lock him in. Let Arsene out to play and see what that does to the real Hollow.

Picking the second option will shift your perspective to Arsene for a little bit. Happy Halloween, everyone!
