Modern Mages: A riot-quest about being wizards

Voting is open
[X] Plan: Name: Rick 'Deimos' Whurmstrum
-[X] 1. Biker: Rick owns a dearly beloved motorcycle which he has spent lots of time learning how to ride and repair by himself. Remembers to wear a helmet too.
-[X] 2. Childhood Pet: Rick owns his also dearly beloved alligator named Snappy and who Rick's had since he was a child. Knows how to take care of reptiles and how to keep on their good side so they don't decide he looks like lunch.
-[X] 3. Built Like A Brickhouse: Rick makes sure to regularly work out and practice boxing often to keep in shape. Can handle taking some hits and also throwing a strong punch back.
-[X] 4. Intimidating / Awe-Inspiring Appearance: Now Rick wouldn't tell you this but he puts a considerable amount of effort so that he looks cool and mysterious. He's not really that deep but he likes appearing that way, although he does try to keep his last name on the down low.
-[X] 5. Astronaut Hopeful: When Rick was younger and still in school he aspired to become an astronaut, to explore space and experience the new & extraordinary. That didn't really pan out, but he did get a proper education and a bachelor's degree in engineering so it's not like he's stupid. He does still own a space telescope and does stargazing ever now and then though.
-[X] Biography: Growing up, Rick had a generally normal life along with the ups and downs that come with life. Loves his pet Snappy, working with machines, and looking cool while doing it. Some thing's he didn't like very much were that he only had a couple of friends, that people sometimes laughed about his last name, or that a family tragedy happened a long time ago. Nowadays he does deliveries on his bike to pay the bills, shows off stunts/tricks to impress the town. Does pick up a new hobby every once in a while to spend his free time and learn something new.
-[X] Minor Arcana: Rick can 'bond' with an object he can fit into his hands that he can then teleport to himself in a burst of harmless flame. The bonded object has to already have significance to Rick and he can only be bonded to one object at a time. He is currently bonded with his motorcycle helmet.

  • [X] Jeremy Yodd
    - [X] Happy Homeowner: Owns a house, can do basic maintenance tasks, can paint, can do yard work.
    - [X] Experimental Gardener: Has a variety of semi-exotic plants, can keep most plants alive, can cross pollinate plants, might get poisoned at some point.
    - [X] Natural Remedies: Knows how to do advanced first aid, can use plants and herbs to alleviate pain and most sickness, can make alcohol, dislikes pills, Always smells faintly herbal.
    - [X] Accountant: Can balance the books, can talk to economists, can talk to civil servants, knows where most people get their money. Can probably launder money but doesn't really want to.
    - [X] Family is a Cult: Can hide beliefs, can lie, knows how to grow drugs (doesn't want to), educated on various religious practices, can falsify documents, can act as a midwife, somewhat scared of his family.
    - [X] Bio: Growing up Jeramy didn't really register how very off his family was. Yes he wasn't supposed to leave the compound but… that was normal… right? And no. It wasn't. There were a lot of conspiracy theories about doctors and the whole group was an extension of that, mixed with… weird religious trappings and some magic mushrooms. His mom was the "healer" of the community so he learned a lot of medicine and exactly how far you could stretch natural remedies and basic surgery and also how to deliver babies. When he was older he went to college, because the community needed someone to handle funds and he wanted to see the outside world. Bit of a culture shock, to say the least. He got two years in and decided… yeah he wasn't going back. Like, nothing against- no actually a lot against them to be honest but they were not his problem anymore. He got a job. Finished out four years of night classes. Got vaccinated (and wasn't that disconcerting). He bought a house, and filled it with plants because he did in fact like gardening. Also has a bunch of stuff to make natural remedies because it's a good skill. His therapist says he "reclaimed" it, and… ok. Not how he would have put it but Ok. He's making good money and is enjoying his hobbies, three states away from his family thankyouverymuch.
    - [X] Minor Arcana: Figured out that if he fed plants his blood they do odd things. Like turning to follow him or growing berries when said plant really shouldn't. It's different for every species of plant, but the effects are always mildly supernatural.

    [X] Alexander Anderson
    - [X] Respectful house tenant:willing to pull their own weight and respectful of rules. Can do basic maintenance. Do yard work, and paint
    - [X] entomophilia: has an obsession with all forms of arthropod has a near encyclopedia knowledge of them and how best to either get rid, use or care for them. Gives him knowledge of all forms of poisonous and venomous arthropods
    - [X]bee keeper: has a job as a bee keeper: giving him knowledge on bee keeping and a supply of money and honey as well as how to process honey
    - [X] calm exterior: from many years of being called weird and strange have been able to completely hide what he is feeling at any given moment
    - [X] awkward intimidation: due to his stature and general build he is extremely intimidating but he does not notice it because of his general lack of understanding in terms of interacting with other humans
    - [X]bio:from a young age Alexander was considered… strange when he first went out of his parents yard he wasn't being active or playing instead he would often be seen laying in the grass watching different insects. Eventually he would come into contact with a wasp nest and were other kids ran away he would end up having fun watching the nest and even bring them food learning what they eat and don't eat through a process of elimination this habit expanded to ants and other insects making him learn gardening to feed butterflies and bees that flies through his parents yard. He often cried and threw tantrums whenever an exterminator is called or when his parents used pesticides to kill his friends and his obsession grew through his life. This of course caused him to be seen as a freak and limit his friend group a lot as a result making him struggle with social interactions. He eventually got a job as a bee keeper using his knowledge and skills to help the production of honey and moved in as a tenant for Jeremy. He dislikes killing any form of anthropod unless absolutely necessary and often is found feeding insects such as ant colonies
    - [X] minor arcana: . Found out that all forms of arthropods are more friendly, unless directly harmed they will not attack him and will generally defend him if he is attacked and bring him any extra products such as honey from bees or stored insects from spiders and in his genera area insects will have a sort of peace treaty to not attack each other unless absolutely needed to prevent starvation and make them less aggressive to other humans
    [X] Name: Jack Westwind
    - [X] Drifter: Jack's always had a hard time when things fall into too much of a routine leading him to switch jobs often. That also means he knows a lot of people scattered throughout the city.
    - [X] Drop out: He tried his best, he really did. It's just collage didn't work out for him.
    - [X] Driver: He takes pride in his skills with vehicles. It might not look like much but he knows it's limits and how to reach them
    - [X] Dreamer: He's always felt there is some plan or purpose for him and throws himself into every thing with will and focus, At least before he gets bored of it.
    - [X] Discerning: Despite what a few people think of him Jack actually has good judgement, instincts and a sharp eye.
    - [X] Biography: Originally going to collage in a nearby city Jack grew tired of the lectures and repletion and eventually dropped out, Following that and his attempt to start a band failing he moved into an apartment of Sunnyview to take advantage of the low rent and decent pay.
    - [X] Minor Arcana: Passerine: The wind acts weirdly around him, for now it pushes him forward but there is potential here, he can feel it.
--[X] Tailwind: Jack moves faster then most people with a large gust of wind following in his footsteps.

Choose 1 Mage and 1 Action for them to undertake

Now time to create your Mage, if you miss this section, don't worry, you can submit a Mage later, and remember you're playing "Normal" people (by that I mean folks who abided by the laws of physics beforehand and weren't Unveiled, you can make your character's past reasonably freaky, just no magic or sci-fi or something else completely unreasonable for a "Normal" person), beginners in the Unveiled world

Mages when they start are mainly comprised of up to 5 Aspects, major parts of their personal Identities, if it would help in a situation it will do so more then a usual modifier, but it will also be a major part of the character so going against it might not go well, or at least not go easy
A Mage with the Stamp Collector Aspect won't just be a simple hobbyist, it would have a TON of personal significance to them, basically the 5 biggest parts of the characters identity, personality traits, worldview, their best skills, are put into the Aspects
The rest of the miscellaneous stuff go into the Biography, like if they sometimes knit or go bowling on the weekends

Also their first Arcana (Magical secrets, not related to the Tarot but a Arcana can be themed after it if you wish) is mostly freeform, just keep it at the level of something like a Dnd cantrip, a little trick that was attracted to them after they were Unveiled, or maybe it was the thing that forced them to see the world for how it is, I'll add a list of example Minor Arcana if you need the help
Don't worry if the Arcana sucks in retrospect, you can potentially evolve your Arcana and or get far more, and sometimes they're more useful then they look, especially if you mix them together

Here is the sheet, you can only make a single Mage each, subject to rewrite or veto, don't vote until I post VOTE IS GO

Jack Westwind: Wander around town looking for anyone else who also sees all the surreal stuff around + 1
Rolled a 95 + 5 = 100

Jack felt really good today, he got into sprinting position outside his home while nobody else was around, he felt it, the otherworldly force of his strange winds swirling around behind the back of his legs, he jumped forward and felt it guide him along to further speeds
He was dashing through the streets, a blur in a strong wind, billowing haircuts, shakinv curtains, and making one fellas ice cream cone fall out of their hand

Jack jumped from the streets to the rooftops, smoothly rushing along the top of Sunnyview and watching everyones lives go by, eventually he saw it, someone else paying attention to the weird eye-shaped flies that occaisonally come in with the southern winds
The runner in the wind observed the individual from above, watching the woman in the finely tailored suit with really well done black curly hair and lipstick redder then red, she was taking the eye-flies, plucking off their wings, and sticking them into little sandwhich bags which were stored in her purse

As the definitely-not-stalking continued multiple other strange things occured around her, she noticed the eyes that sometimes stare back from the display televisions on Morris Street, definitely began speedwalking when they blinked in some weird rhythm again (Possible communication attempt?), and also when she actually made a officer not ticket her for parking too long by refusing the ticket, the suited lady just pulled out a pen, wrote something on the paper, handed the ticket back, and almost in a trance the policeman accepted and let her drive off, when she was gone the officer looked confused about why he did that, but went on with his day as if nothing happened

Westwind also found another individual who saw surreal stuff, a local barrista at the Blackbird Cafe, tan, quite handsome, a neat handlebar moustache, and Jack sat at a table drinking coffee, watching multiple people talking to the barrista and weird ethereal bird-things appeared in the establishment, almost as if they were standing watch in there or something, and the moustachiod man turned to look at them as if he was checking on them, nodding, probably mentally counting down how many were there
Luckily the man didn't seem to notice Jack's occaisonal spying, but when he left the building a ethereal bird flew over faster then he could react, he felt something at the back of his head, and his memory of whatever any of the customers said to the barrista was gone

Suited Lady
- Wears a finely tailored suit, curly black hair, very red lipstick
- Can mind-control people?

Moustached Barrista
- Tanned, handsome, great listener, wonderful handlebar moustache
- Can erase memories using birds?

Blackbird Cafe
- Nice cafe with a handsome barrista

Jeremy Yodd: Catalogue what all of your plants are doing, then go to the pet store and buy some rats to test anything that looks edible on.
No roll required

Blood in each put, observations have shown common patterns among the plants, some softened their bodies to be more comfortable to touch, some formed rudimentary muscular systems to perform repeated stroking motions for emotional consolation, some slowly began to grow some ripe fruits which were shaped oddly, and a very common pattern from the flowers was looking even prettier

After buying some mice, Jeremy had two cages, 1 where he threw in a mice and a fruit for experimenting, and 1 where the rest were held and fed normally
The tests... were uneventful, nothing seemed to happen to any of the rats that ate the fruit, nothing significant at least, 1 just began to produce more droppings for a day before going back to a normal amount

So the only thing you should be probably worry about is maybe loose bowls, unless the effects are different depending on species...,
At least you know rats will be fine eating these

But now you have a bunch of rats, luckily you can just give them the fruit

Alexander Anderson: Set up a little shrine for bugs to leave offerings at so they don't leave stuff all over your place
No roll required

Little shrine with a photo of him, toothpicks with glue on both ends holding up the sheet of paper acting as the roof, a paper plate for the offerings rignt in front
They line up like it's a public facility, the place the offering down, usually dead smaller arthropods, shiny miniscule pebbles, pieces of extra beeswax, one time a entire dead bird was left there by the ants

So there, that sorts things out, they even began personally decorating the tiny shrine, writing their symbols on the sides with ink stolen from a pen, dressing in clothes sewn from abandoned barbie doll hair, making timy beeswax statues of you

This was all of course on the windowsill, the one that has the window stuck slightly ajar

Rick: Do some research about magic, mages, and arcana.
Rolled a 68 - 30 = 38

Rick learnt something, not much about magic, mages, or Arcana, just that is was really difficult to find information on those subjects
Why you ask?

Rick did multiple research sessions online and at the library for various things related to what he saw out in the street with his Unveiled eyes, which was difficult considering there didn't seem to be any owls inviting him to wizard schools or anything cool and mysterious giving a proper introduction, from what hes seen from the weird shit flying around like those eyeballs with the wings, the supernatural isn't exactly organized neatly, no hidden paths or books for the newly awakened just more purple lights forming the shape of simpsons characters at night in Holton Park, where all the couples go for dates

Eventually he met some guy in the grocery store, stoic with glossy dark and perfectly straight hair, staring at a box of cocoa puffs with malevolent intent
He turned, facing Whurmstrum directly, and began making growls, the thought of those lions from national geographic comes to mind

Deimos feels it, gnawing at the back of his mind, hate, a hatred for.... for... a bird or something? What? Before he knew it, he had the cocoa puffs box in his mouth, halfway torn apart by his teeth, the spit soaked shreds on the ground or between his teeth
The stoic man was gone

Rick 'Deimos' Whurmstrum
- Cursed by some weird growling from the Stoic Man to have a potent LOATHING for something related to birds, or a single bird, or maybe a species of bird? Hard to tell

Stoic Man
- Perfectly straight black hair, poker face at all times
- Can growl and make you hate birds?

Seems mostly okay, any specific field they're inventive in? Aspects provide pretty good bonus modifiers and that may apply to too many rolls
