Mina's Combat Test Thread

There's a sharper crack from atop the redoubt as the sniper fires, the shot sailing back in to the nest occupied by Lt. Crow.
My instincts scream at me before anything happens, seeing as they have not failed me yet I decide to heed them.

I am not lead astray because as soon as I try to move out of the way fiery pain blossoms in my shoulder, gritting my teeth I ignore it for now and focus on tracking down the bastard who shot me, If he tries to gun down one of the others.....

Working through the pain with the ease of experience and rage serving as anesthesia I line up my scope towards where the bullet most likely came.

Bingo.

I still my breathing and whisper softly as I take aim at the back of his head.

"You picked the wrong country to fuck with bub"

Damn it! swears Alex internally at the sight of his shot went missing wildly.

Hope he would'nt ... Oh, shit! There's more of them! Alex started to feel agitated. No, Focus!

Alex glances between the sniper, the machine gun and the Imperial scouts. "Hey Edward, do you want to charge at those Imps like how you would usually do?" said Alex as he starts to aim. "Well, go for it. I'll take care that pesky machine gun"

Alex fires carefully calculated shot at the machine gun shooting to their side in an attempt to make it Momentarily Stop Firing

The crack of your rifle reverberates through your nest and you see the enemy sniper jerk as her helmet fails to stop the bullet. From the spray you saw and her total lack of movement you'd say you've got yourself another kill.

"Well, go for it. I'll take care that pesky machine gun"
Your shots find their mark and there's a sudden rush of steam from the gun port followed by a Break in the Fire. The gun is withdrawn from the window and you can hear the crew shouting at each other and down to the scouts in the trench below. Probably blew a hole in the barrel's water cooling jacket, it'll take them some work to get a new one on.

Post contains no actions, is purely for RP reasons (as well as my own personal amusement)

Ana prods at something in the mud with a knife, "So I says to Mable, I says: Mable I dunno about you, but I don't think we've gotten any beef in a month!" Ana grins, and looks up at Cohen, waving a sharp tool in the air absentmindedly, "So anyway, after that...", the engineer continues on cheerily despite the bullets and explosions.

(RP Post, not an actual gameplay post.)

Leo keeps his face pressed against the ground, silently praying that the machine gunners wouldn't close in on his crater (and that the smoke wouldn't dissipate so quickly) as he cursed the powers that be. Why the Hell they thought taking an enemy trench line simply by bombarding first before throwing men at it until it was taken would be a good idea was beyond him, but he'd have a few choice words for them if it didn't mean getting Court-Martial'ed.

He needed a stiff drink after this was all over. Hell, he would've given an arm or a leg just to be back at their side of No Man's Land digging trenches or laying barbed wire.

The Engineer wouldn't have more time to lament his situation as he heard something heavier than a bullet land in the crater, turning around to see that Ana had jumped in as well.

"Oh Hey, I can't see a thing in this smoke (Good work by the way!)" She prods her fellow soldier.
"That's the idea!" He yells back, keeping his gaze trained forwards. The occasional lines of tracer coming from the machine guns didn't seem to be getting any closer, which was good...

"I know you're real good at seeing the small things, what say we work together on this!"

Ana gestures towards the ground leading up to the enemy lines, "You and me, we'll find 'em and clear the way! No way they're stopping us!"
... Only, he hoped that Ana's chattering wouldn't lead the gunners through them. The only reason they weren't dead yet was because of the smoke, and that wouldn't last forever either.

He couldn't help but grin, though. At least the Medic made for good company.

"If the bleedin' MGs don't get us first, that is. Where's Vince-"

Vincent tumbled out of the smoke and into the crater where the Engineers sought refuge in. Gritting his teeth, he unslung his lancer and took aim at the defensive emplacement before him, firing with a grunt as the lance buckled under the sudden force.
Oh, hey, there he is-

Whatever greeting Leo had on his lips died when he saw the man heft his Lancaar M1, prompting the Engineer to clap his hands over his ears on reflex as he gets down on the muddy floor. All he needed was a dull thump and the earth quaking to know that Vincent had unleashed his payload.

The lance flies true and obliterates the south gun emplacement, chunks of concrete and metal exploding outward and dark smoke rising from the ruined facade.
Leo got up just in time to hear the sound of an explosion, followed by falling rock and masonry.

"Thanks!" He yells out to the Lancer over the noise, turning to their Medic to see how she was faring.

Ana prods at something in the mud with a knife, "So I says to Mable, I says: Mable I dunno about you, but I don't think we've gotten any beef in a month!" Ana grins, and looks up at Cohen, waving a sharp tool in the air absentmindedly, "So anyway, after that...", the engineer continues on cheerily despite the bullets and explosions.
...

She really doesn't stop talking, does she?

"Hey, hey! You can tell me about Mable later, we still got that minefield to take care of." Leo taps Ana on the shoulder, pointing towards the aforementioned field possibly teeming with them.

"You sweep left, I'll sweep right! The faster we do this, the sooner we can end this mess and get back to our dugout. On three." He continues, eyeing Vincent for a moment to see if the Lancer was still with them.

"One, two..."

Burk dared to poke his head over the lip of the crater he shared with Edward and Fabre as he heard the burp of the second machine gun abruptly cease. When his curiosity wasn't rewarded with a renewed burst of fire from the Imp lines, he turned to the privates. "Edwards!" he barked. "Remember when I said no heroics? I'm rescinding that order!"

With a shout, Burk scrambled up the side of the depression and charged towards the enemy trench, firing short bursts from his Mags to keep the surviving Imps suppressed.

Damn it! swears Alex internally at the sight of his shot went missing wildly.

He can see where this is going. He smiles as he gets ready to run.

"There is a machine gun covering them. Might be a slight obstacle."
"Well, go for it. I'll take care that pesky machine gun"
"Edwards!" he barked. "Remember when I said no heroics? I'm rescinding that order!"
"Roger that!"
Alex fires carefully calculated shot at the machine gun shooting to their side in an attempt to make it Momentarily Stop Firing
As soon as Alex starts firing, Edward's off like a shot, moving directly at the area of the trench the Scouts are in. He reaches it quickly while they are pinned down from Burk's suppressive fire and, with all of his momentum behind it, delivers a jumping kick to one of them.
The difference in height, of course, meant that the kick went right to the unfortunate Scout's face.

Edward felt something give beneath his kicking foot, but that was swiftly ended as he flew past the kicked Scout and came to a rolling stop in the trench.

When he looked up, the other Scout was getting over his surprise and bringing his gun to bear on him.
Now that just won't do, now will it?

Edward swiftly rushes towards the other Scout as he stands up, pushing the gun aside just as it's about to be fired. That done, he elbows his opponent right in the solar plexus before taking advantage of their pain to snap his neck.

Scouts disposed of, he begins moving towards the redoubt-
The lance flies true and obliterates the south gun emplacement, chunks of concrete and metal exploding outward and dark smoke rising from the ruined facade.
-when it blows up.

'Thanks, Vincent.'

Still, he slowly moves towards it, ready to mop up anyone left alive after that.

Still, he slowly moves towards it, ready to mop up anyone left alive after that.
To the west there's nothing but the sheer concrete wall of the redoubt, the only break in its surface is a narrow vertical firing window at chest level, obviously designed to flank anyone in this section of trench. It's currently un-manned. To the south, over the earthen ramp the scouts were firing from, the smoke cloud the engineers laid down can just be seen starting to disperse in the breeze. Behind, to the east lies a straightish section of trench that was unoccuppied when Edward leapt down on the scouts, and to the north? The sound of feet splashing in muddy water and the clank of metal on metal growing louder.

@Salbazier @Jace911
Up the trench to the north you see three Imperial troopers come charging out of the dugout behind the redoubt followed by a man with a sergeant's emblem on his lapels, hefting a well used sapper's axe. His eyes dart from the two bodies lying still in the muddy water of the trench, up to you two coming up on the position, and then to Edward looking appreciatively up at the smoking, steaming ruin that is being made of the fortification.

@Nanimani
"Clear those two! The boy is mine," he bellows and charges down on Edward. His hobnailed boots suck and smack along the way, and with a cry he swings the axe at Edward. "Let's see if we can't make you kneel, Gallian scum!"

Meanwhile, the three troopers train their machine guns up and fire at Alex.

@SlugSLinger @Arvin_Larn @JKuz
On the western side of the redoubt, out of view of the distraction squad, a scout momentarily pops his head over shallow lip of the trench. His face goes white seeing the huge cloud of smoke, a wispy hole blown through the center by the rush of exhaust from Vincent's lance. He drops below the line of sight , disappearing somewhere in to the system of trenches behind the redoubt.

"... Three!"

Leo pushes himself out of the crater they were hiding, slinging his Gallian-1 and taking out his knife as he scans the field in front of him.

"Remember to look out for mounds or unearthed dirt, that's how you'll find 'em!" He tells the Medic just as he takes over his side of the field.

Hopefully, with Ana's help, they can Pull Together on This quickly enough to link up with Burk.

As the two Engineers get to work locating and disarming mines, Vincent looks over the battlefield and grits his teeth as the Sarge and two other troopers are engaged in melee. Something stirs in the Lancer, a familiar anger at seeing Imperials engaging his fellows. Using that anger and turning it into strength, Vincent holds his Lance with one hand and runs through the minefield, bellowing a cry as he approaches the Imperial lines.

His heart pounds in his chest like drums. He may have stepped on a mine or two, as he felt himself stumble more than a few times, but with the rage clouding his senses, he couldn't care less. The Imperials had to suffer for what they've done and once he gets through this damn field, he'll-

Something detonates and knocks the Lancer back a few steps. The ground before him is smoking, as is his blast shield and most of his left boot is singed, but other than that, he's fine. The smoke clears as Vincent walks on, smoking, but otherwise unharmed. Then realization hits.

He stepped on a mine.

He stepped on a mine and lived.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA!" Vincent resumes his charge, reaching the Imperial trenches with little difficulty. "Your mines won't stop me, Imperial scum! Your heads are mine!"

The Lancer drops into the trenches and pulls out his sidearm, eyes scanning for targets as he approaches Sgt. Burke's position. He's made it this far, he might as well keep going.

With Leo's keen spotting and Ana's careful application of Steps 2-6 of the Gallian Combat Engineer's Procedure for Defusing Mines (Step one was secure the area so no one could inadvertently enter the zone), the mine field is effectively neutralized. There is a brief scare when, berserker rage upon him, Vincent charges past the pair and disappears in a shower of dirt and smoke. The soil rains down on the two, but strangely there are no bits of Vincent in the mix, and he carries on in to the trench that the the rest of Team Distraction jumped in to.

As you run down the ramp you can see Burk and Alex under fire from three troopers to the north, and Edward is in melee with an Imperial Sergeant.

Leo's eyes fell quickly on the flag (well, it was more of a stake really) jutting outright from the ground, crouching down an arm's length away from it as he digs his knife into the dirt. A few seconds of frantic digging brought out a glint of metal. A mine!

He pulled out the flag from the ground, wondering how was Ana doing-

"Wait, where did these little flags come from? Leo you see this?" Ana looks over at a tiny flag in Leo's hands, and frowns.

"Oh" Ana has the good grace to look sheepish.
"It's pretty hard to miss unless you're doing something apart from running for your life." Leo chuckled at Ana's expense, pulling out a long-nose plier from his Combat Toolkit as he did so.

"Well I suppose it's time to start using these!" She hefts her defusing tools and gets to work.
"Yep, but where's Vince?" He shot back, head swiveling around as he tried to find the Lancer. He'd find his answer as soon as a blur passed between both him and the Medic, followed by a couple of explosions and unholy amounts of dirt getting kicked up.

The crazy bastard ran through the minefield, without letting them finish first.

Leo clicked his teeth and dreaded the worst. How was he going to explain to the Sergeant that their Squad's only Lancer decided it was a good idea to-

"HAHAHAHAHAHA! Your mines won't stop me, Imperial scum! Your heads are mine!"
The Demo Expert blinked, his brain trying to process the sheer incongruity of it all for a few moments: their Lancer stepped on god-knows-how-many mines and didn't disintegrate in a cloud of smoke and disembodied parts.

He decided instead to work on defusing the rest of the mines, his hands flitting with practiced ease as a bead of sweat fell down his forehead. No use trying to worry about Vincent for now.

It didn't take long for them to finish the Minefield, carving a safe path for the rest of the infantry to run through as Leo picked up his carbine and turned to Ana.

"I think Vince headed towards Burk and the rest of the Squad, let's haul ass!" He yelled over the din of gunfire, his heart pounding.

They weren't finished yet. Not by a long shot.

Vincent's eyes widen at the scene of Edward fighting against an Imperial Sargeant, raising his sidearm and preparing to shoot the Imp and aid his squadmate. Then he remembers how he had lost everything to those bastards and decides to make things more personal.

With a warcry, Vincent rushes over and attempts disarm the Imperial of his axe and Create an Advantage for Edward to exploit.

Vincent manages to wrench the axe out of the Imperial's hands, or does he let it? Yep, he definitely let it go, and he doesn't look to be slowed down at all by the development. If anything he seems to relish the opportunity to get his knuckles bloody against this Darcsen lad.

On the plus side, Vincent has a rather nice axe now.

Heaving a sigh of relief at taking out the counter-sniper I debate with myself wether to hold the fort or go and help the others.

It wasnt much of a conflict actually, I was worried about them and after looking through my scope for a few minutes I couldnt see anything out of the ordinary around here.

With that decided I quickly travel towards where the team of engineers should be right now(after tying a clean bandage over my own wound of course, A little crass but I can get myself checked out later)

Burk ducked his head below the lip of the trench as the Imp troopers continued to pepper his position with potshots. Further down the trench he could see Private Edward wrestling with a big axe-wielding Imp, but they were too closely engaged for Burk to risk a shot. Before he could bellow for the private to disengage he heard a shout from the direction of the minefield, heralding the arrival of the still-smoking Private Vincent. The squad lancer charged towards the big Imp as Edward managed to wrestle his axe away, and Burk rapidly changed gears.

"Fabre!" he shouted, "Work your way around the flank while I suppress these Imps! Get in close and take them out while I've got their attention!"

With that he lifted his rifle over the top of the trench and began firing in the direction of the enemy shots, spraying them with what he hoped was enough flak to make them think twice about moving.

[Using Command to give Fabre a Fate point for any action that involves sneaking up on the three Imps and ambushing them]

Alex scramble to evade the bullets as he running toward the trenches. His footing slips on the slope, causing him to fall sliding and into a roll. Even as he rolls on the ground, he androitly draw and unpin a grenade, throwing it at the Imperial troopers in a smooth motion ... only to miss entirely as the grenade bounces on the side of the trench, falling into and exploding in a pool of muck instead on the troopers, throwing mud and making mess everywhere.

"Damn It!"
"Fabre!" he shouted, "Work your way around the flank while I suppress these Imps! Get in close and take them out while I've got their attention!"
"On it."

Standing up, Alex make haste toward the eastern threnches, trying to find a route to flank the troopers.

@Jace911 @Salbazier
The troopers, intent on taking down the scout in their sights see the grenade coming and duck to the side just as Burk's hail of covering fire commences and the explosive detonates, showering the trench in mud. They try to return some shots, to somehow turn the tide but can't make any headway. One goes so far as to turn back to his comrades and call out, "This is the best you can do for the Fatherland! It's just one man!" only to flatten himself even harder behind one of the retaining timbers as a bullet comes close to giving him a nine-millimeter ear-piercing.

As Alex splashes down the trench to the east he can see flashes of light and smoke coming from the next section over as they too start pushing in to the Imperial lines, but there's no sign of any movement in this section.

@Nanimani @SlugSLinger
Edward swings and the enemy sergeant narrowly avoids the hit. Undeterred by the loss of his axe, he presses the advantage as the two men are pelted with chunks of clay and mud blasted from the bottom of the trench by Alex's grenade. Alfons gets a slippery grip on the Darcsen's throat, managing to bear down and grind his opponent's face in to one of the many puddles of stagnant water. It'll definitely leave a mark, but scrabbling at the muddy ground Edward isn't out yet.

Leo could feel his blood pounding as his feet tried to gain purchase on the muddy ground in an attempt to follow in Vincent's wake. Following the sound of gunfire was a good way to find the general direction of where the rest of the squad would be, in his experience, and with that in mind he beckoned Ana to follow him as they raced past the minefield towards the left side of the broken Redoubt.

Once they got to the edge of the trench line, he traced the sound of gunfire to Burk's Mags pouring down a lead of hail at a trio of Imps while Edward and Vincent were engaging in fisticuffs with a particularly mean-looking Imp in knee-deep trench water. He didn't fancy his chances with the big brute, as much as he wanted to help the half-Darcsen and their crazed Lancer, and it seemed Burk was all alone without Fabre in sight. He couldn't just shoot the bloody bucket-head without the risk of shooting Edward and Vincent either.

Hoping that the Squad's bruisers would come out on top without his help, he leaped into the trench and ran towards the T-junction. He heralded his arrival with the sound of his carbine spitting out lead, adding some more rounds on top of Burk's blistering fusillade as he moved in to suppress the Imps alongside the grizzled Sergeant; giving Fabre some Covering Fire all the while.

"Hey Sarge! Where's Fabre!?" He yelled over the din of gunfire, pausing to punch a few rounds at the Imperials' position before ducking back into cover.

"Saw Edward and Vincent taking on that huge bugger but I'm not sure they have it in hand." He continued, wincing as a few bullets slammed painfully close to where his head used to be a few moments ago.

Ana races down into the trenches after Leo, but pauses when she runs into Edward in the process of being pushed into the water, "What the Hell? Get off of him you bastard!", she leaps onto the Imperial's back... and just sort of bounces off... seemingly due to an errant shoulder twitch. She flies back into the wall of the trench tripping over an ill-placed sand bag

"Ed, Eddy, You can take him!", Ana starts to struggle to her feet, "Punch this Imp bastard right in the face! No eastern sonovabitch can take down a Gallian in my squad.", she steadies herself against the trench wall, "You can do it, Ed, I know you can!" she finishes (for the moment) shaking the mud off of her rifle.

Vincent's eyes dart around, looking for a w to aid his squadmate in dealing with the Imperial Sargeant. Thr Lancer doubted his ability to do anything with the axe in his hand, he was not that good with chopping this and there was a chance that, if he missed, he could hit Edward. No, using thr axe was out of the question. But maybe-

Thr Lancer ran up to the trench wall and tried pulling out one of boards nailed on it. If he could somehow wrench it out, get some of the dirt loose...

But to no avail. The board was stuck to the wall and even Vincent's strength could make it budge. Damn it.

The chatter of automatic gunfire caught his attention. Sarge and the other troopers must be engaging the Imps now. And there were multiple machine gun nests there that could chew the others to pieces. His lance could be the only thing that can keep that gruesome image from happening.

"Ana!" Vincent barked, dropping his axe and pulling out his lance.. "I'm going over to help Burke!"

Without sparing another bacward glance, thr Lancer was off. Armored boots digging deep into the muddy trench as he approached the Shocktrooper's position. Hopefully, Edward can take care of that Imp.

If he couldn't, then there'll be a lance with that sargeant's haed in its sights.

Finally arriving at the place where I sent the distraction team I take a second to quickly take stock of the situation.
