Has been so long since I last saw this quest that I've all but forgotten, will have to read it again and catch up.

5. Sparring Oni, Sparing Miko

    • Landing at the top of the steps you respectfully walk through the Shrine's main Torii gate silently.

    Before looking around and calling out loudly, "Hey Suika, are you here?"

    A snort from above catches your attention, as does some grumbling and you look up to see a yawning Suika peer over the top edge of the Torii down at you.

    "What, hey aren't you that gatekeeper over at Remi's place?" She asks, giving a lazy wave to the startled Reimu who had hurried out of the shrine proper at your shout.

    "Yes I am," You respond, happy to be recognized.

    "What're you doing all the way up here? Shouldn't you be, guarding or something?" She asks, not moving from where she was.

    "I'm on vacation!" You respond with a grin.

    These words cause Suika to tumble off the Torii in surprise and Reimu to speak up from behind you, "You're on what?"

    "Vacation," You reply, turning to look at the Hakurei Shrine Maiden, "I get two week of vacation a year and I decided to take them now as soon as I was informed of this."

    Reimu narrows her eyes slightly, crossing her arms as she asks, "So why are you here?"

    "I wanted a spar, so I figured I'd find Suika and ask if she'd like to fight, or knew where I could find another Oni who would."

    "Oh no you don't no Spellcard Duels on my Shrine grounds," She says, hands now on her hips.

    "No, not a Spellcard Duel," You correct helpfully, "I am at the core of my being a Martial Artist and have not had a good spar in too long, so I mean a fight fight."

    "I'm game!" Suika says with an eager grin from your right, grinning up at you and cracking her knuckles, "Haven't had a good brawl in a while."

    "That's even worse!" Reimu cries out, "No! Not at my Shrine you're not! You're liable to break through walls, and tear up the grass, no!"

    I recently got passed my depression to get some motivation to do quests, limiting it to 3 quests, 2 here and 1 on QQ to make it easier on myself, and now I've updated both quests and my Signature to reflect which two quests here will be regularly updated

    Yeah, let's not piss off the red and white shrine maiden. We might survive to our next vacation if we don't.

    Could combine both pretty easily. Suika throws a punch and we yeet her down the mountain and leap after her. :V

    That's not a hard request, you know you would personally hate it if something similar were to happen at the mansion's gates. You are about to ask Suika where she'd like to go instead but when you turn to ask you are greeted by the sight of her first hurtling for your face.



    Calmly you grab her wrist and with a perfect flip send her down the staircase.

    "Then we shall take it away from the shrine, now if you will excuse me," You say, giving Reimu a small bow before leaping down the staircase at the Oni already soaring up the stairs.

    You land feet first onto Suika's face sending her further down the stairs and into the nearby forest.

    Landing a few feet away from the prone Suika you drop into a ready stance, eager grin on your face. Suika curls up and leaps to her feet, not pausing even a moment before throwing herself at you. If you weren't yourself, and you hadn't gotten some of your old self back it might have been too fast to react, but you were Hong Meiling, and a wild Haymaker would not even brush your hair.

    The ground that catches Suika's fist isn't nearly so lucky, cratering from the force of the blow. You suddenly sympathize with Reimu more if she has to deal with damage like that to her shrine on a regular basis. Lashing out with a kick of your own you barely miss Suika's head as she stumbles forward.

    It isn't the first time you've fought drunken opponents, or fake drunkards so it is easy to avoid the wild swings from the Oni. You were surprised however when she suddenly grew in size, allowing her head to impact with your stomach and throwing you backwards. You had forgotten about magic in the euphoria of finally having a physical spar.

    By the end of things the both of you are covered in bruises, but the real loser was the surrounding area, craters and splintered trees fill the new clearing for about thirty meters in each direction, thankfully you managed to steer combat away from the shrine enough that there's no damage even to the steps leading up to the Torii.

    Suika is panting, a hand on each knee before she throws her head back and laughs, "You're all right China. You're welcome to drink with me anytime."

    • Hmm... Buddhism and Taoism both have martial... things going on with the spiritual side of martial arts more than the outright physical (not to say that war monks weren't terrifying), but I don't know how much of that is in their branches here in Gensokyo?

    I was just thinking Meiling's done her warm ups, had a nice brawl, and now what's left is either poking the more spiritual side of martial arts or some cooldown.

    Or goofing off, either or.

    Did Reimu not react afterwards or did she just not care? Either way I want to find out more and a drinking binge with an Oni is bound to knock us out.

    There are easier ways to lose a week than drinking with Suika Ibuki. Like taking a building to the face.
