Owww, ok slight warning I just cut one of my favourite fingers quite bad and it will probably slow my pace down.

My other note is to not get your hopes up for better since this one was got on a decent crit, but well...

This plan seems good, though I do wonder when would be a good time to try and go find the nexus, turn 5 or 6 maybe?

depends on what the nexus is like now we need some recon out there, to long and they will assume we're lost or if we jump to early we could screw ourselves.

ideally we need to do a few of the following
-secure food
-secure our basic defence
-set up the basics of industry
-explore the world
-set up accommodation for the personnel we currently need

So that when we do go looking for Nexus if they are in dire straights like in canon we can help also deal with any hostiles out there that try to come to us.

That's true, but I'm also wondering about situations where they can give us a heads ups on like native pirates, prothean equivalents with defenses still active at ruins, or them sending out a request for help that we could miss or get to late.

Wombat has said this isn't completely to canon of the final game, so I'm interested to see if there's a hidden crossover going with another sci-fi verse.

Turn 2: Results
Construct Shipyards
Explore A-6 System
Adapt Gear

Well this could have gone better...which was the polite way of saying you almost ended up with well over a hundred dead people and even more damage.

There was no single cause on this one, not really. It was just a combination of stress, some people thinking they were completely recovered from cryo sickness before they were ready and massive overconfidence in how easy it would be to construct these shipyards when lacking in most of the infrastructure they were accustomed to. It should have been simple and for the first few stages it was...but then maintenance went out of the loop, corners were cut and a reactor started to meltdown. If Liazin hadn't been coming back from her exploration and rushed through the burning yard to perform an emergency vent then it would have been a disaster.

Yelling at each of them, in turn, would have taken far too long so you had to settle for a disappointing lecture to chastise the lot of them at once at how they had threatened the security of this part of the initiative and used up a very large proportion of your dwindling eezo stores in a matter of days!

The only consolation out of this entire long expensive mess is that at the end of the day you did have the damn shipyards operational, though with several hundred new people awake to maintain them your stores of food were starting to become somewhat strained.

"Penny for your thoughts?" You looked up at Liazin crest rising up in befuddlement as she shrugged. "Human phrase, sort I'd give it a try. You're a spy thought you'd know all those bits of lingo."

Looking back down at the data pads you had to suppress a groan of exasperation. "I was a spy, not a cultural analysis. I learnt slang on a mission by mission basis when I needed it at all and that particular one never came up."

"Well, it just means what's on your mind."

"Frustration mostly, you?"

"I'm pretty good. Been exciting for me, dashing heroically into the fire and the flames to save them from an ignominious death."

"And the system?" you said with well-worn acceptance. "Anything new and interesting."

She picked up a pad and dropped it on the table with a small smile, flicking a biotic light between her fingers as you picked it up.

"All the details are in there, survey numbers, geological analysis so forth. Nothing too interesting so far, but I've spread probes out on most of the system's inner worlds. Miners brought up some raw resources too so that should keep us tithed over for now."

Your attention kept flickering between her summation and the pad in your talons, but it so far this seemed accurate. Automated mining drones were working away at several of the more accessible deposits on the solid worlds, so that was a bulk influx of certain resources to keep them going for now.

Wasn't going to keep them viable in the long term, but it was better than nothing.

"Still three things stood out to me."

She reached over biotically and forced the pad to jump to a new page, as you scowled slightly at her mischievous expression. "First on our moon, there's a weird sensory dead zone. I don't think it's something artificial, but worth pointing out for now since this usually means there's some quite valuable materials there. Second, there's a large fragment of space debris travelling at 'high' speeds towards the sun. Probably not a threat, but I would like to have a peak and see if anything's there. And finally, at the very end of what I've surveyed so far, there's an ice-ocean on the foremost gas giant's moon. Something the scientists are likely very interested in since there's also lots of hot water in it."

"Which might mean life, I'm familiar with the concept."

You stroked your chin, feeling your plates were still somewhat flakey from cryosleep and sighing. Just another thing to miss about the Way, but another thing to build in Andromeda. Moving onto the next and probably most important topic. "How about the scientists. Are things at least somewhat better, or is it just more 'oh yes we accidentally collapsed a mountain sorry Director.'"

You glared at her as she suppressed giggles pushing their way from her lungs. "pffft It was only part of a mountain." "I don't care and it is not funny who knows what they might have crushed!"

"Come on they collapsed part of a mountain in your honour."

"I didn't ask them too, I just want to be able to set down a colony without risking an entire mountain falling down from underneath their feet!" You breathed in through your nose as frustration flared again. You could feel a dull headache coming on and if you weren't so interested in conserving supplies you'd head down to the doctor's offices. The sacrifices of command you supposed.

"Then calm down, there were some initial mishaps, but the mountain really was necessary. They needed to test out the tolerances of the local stone. They found them and they're confident that barring someone being a complete moron they've minimised the chances of agitating the fault line."

You look at her hard in the face, then turn to your office window where the somewhat dented shipyard she had recently saved from an ignominious demise was floating.

She followed your gaze and winced.

"Point taken, but I think you managed to get your displeasure across. I'm not worrying. In addition to that they've adapted our equipment to deal with the environment better, suits designed for the high altitude, jump jets with longer hang time, barriers modulated for enduring large slow hits." She looked you up and down for a second. "You should come down and try it up, its strange that the guy in charge has never actually been on the planet itself."

"I'll consider it, but at the moment I'm too busy to be risking death!"

She rolled her eyes, but nodded regardless. "The Varen's Teeth is it'll bump the cost up adapting it into the current prefabs, but the colony's much better prepared for setting down safely. Even Mr Bao should be more open to the idea now."

Still looking out of the window, you turned slightly to stare down at the craggy surface of A-6 and nodded.

Yes this may work.

Construct Shipyards:
Yards built, but a near disaster nearly killed large numbers of workers and greatly increased the costs for the turn. Next turn you will be able to adapt shuttles into miners and start sending them out. Final cost is 30BI, 25AI and 14 Eezo
Explore A-6 System: Mining points identified, inner system surveyed, automated mining drones successfully extracted several easy deposits netting +50BI, +15AI and +10EZ. Three anomalies identified.
Adapt Gear: Equipment adapted to work better in the environment of A-6, minimising the risks to colonists and of disturbing the geological systems. Science is confident that barring the use of extremely powerful explosives in mining the colony site's faultline is not at risk of collapsing. Cost of colony and colonial infrastructure projects increased.

Sorry this took so long and is shorter, finger's still giving me trouble.

Anyhow good turn with only one really bad roll, any clarifications you want just let me know.

Hmm found a lot of interesting anomalies in the inner system shame about the shipyard but we can start to bring in resources all in all a productive turn.

So I never played the final game so I'm not sure, but there were seven ships and always fix planet. Is Nexxus supposed to be the 7th ship?

So I never played the final game so I'm not sure, but there were seven ships and always fix planet. Is Nexxus supposed to be the 7th ship?
I'm modifying things originally there were 6 arks each with a majority of the most marketable races human Turian salarian and Quarian with the Nexus being the final one and having a small Krogan pop.

The Nexus was meant to be a diet citadel while each ark was to go to a preidentified "golden world."

I've kept the six ships idea and world idea but the Nexus is it's own thing it's not colonising a planet and has fewer people on it. Each ark has enough of each Milkey wat race to make a sustainable population With care.

Not too bad of a turn, everything passed and the good result on surveying nearly canceled out the increased cost of the shipyards. I'm thinking we get colony down and launch some shuttle next turn, turn after get hydroponics and get comms set up. After that probably some low cost items so we can save up to secure the plateau so we can safely get groundside mining up and running.

Turn 3: Recontact
The Bridge of the Beseria was almost always a hub of activity, even when it seemed like there was very little that needed to be done. After all it was a spaceship no longer, but a station with very little in the system to manage presently.

But that was no reason to slack! As the Director had handily warned everyone just a few days ago, laxness led to mistakes and mistakes had led to the first major disaster of their Exodus. As such there was a laser focus around the bridge, as every sentient within it focused totally on their consoles.

Thus when a contact appeared in system, moving at high speed towards them there was no panic, merely a competent and efficient transmission of greetings and a demand for identification, while warning of this appearance was passed rapidly up the chain of command to the Director.

Thankfully their well drilled efforts were not required for a first contact scenario, as the vessel transmitted back not only Initiative IFFs, but a Pathfinder's code. Each one was unique to the Pathfinder to allow for immediate identification, so by the time you reached the bridge Valkoris, Pathfinder of the Nexus was already beginning docking procedures.

================================

There was something indescribably strange about seeing someone not from the Betheria again, made all the odder by the fact you had last seen the man around a month and a half ago by your reckoning, but the withered Turian stood in your office at parade rest like a strong Balsana tree mixed with an industrial complex, Palvonian tattoos practically invisible with age, back straighter enough that a quantum scanner would not be able to find a micrometre out of alignment.

"Director Carius. It's a fortuitous start that the first of my contacts seems to be doing well." His single biological eye practically bored through you, dissecting your every twitch with predatory precision. You'd be far more intimidated if you hadn't grown so use to Liazin doing the same, and she had the advantages of youth and biotics to back up the implied threat.

"And I'm glad the Nexus is doing well enough to dispatch you already." You responded, a small grin quirking your face. "Nothing for you to find around it."

"No." His response was simple, like a thunderbolt, but at your still curious expression he elaborated. "There is nothing there, save for the barest traces of minerals. The Nexus is in effect unstainable without outside aid, save for the saving grace of outside systems having a slightly greater wealth. Even then there was little of immediate interest beyond that."

You motioned for him to sit, and smoother than water he slinked into it, continuing his tale. "The initial arrival was as expected, thawing out those who were required went well, as did projecting out a signal and setting up Comm Buoys. With focus shifting to sourcing raw resources Director Garson ordered me to establish contact with the other Directors."

Odd, you weren't the furthest from the Nexus's location in the Cluster, but not far out. Why start here?

Evidently he saw your confusion even through what is supposed to be an impeccable straight face, and for an instant a smile like a razor crossed his features. "Lacking any other information on which to go to, I settled on random chance. I rolled a six thus I am here."

Somewhat stunned by the response you choose to simply soldier on. "So is that it, just hello I'm going to go to the next system?"

"No, Director Garson wanted me to help out for a short time and get a better impression so help I shall."

He extends a clawed hand, biotic replacements gleaming almost silver under the white lights of your office.

"It shall be a pleasure working with you."

You take it, and shake it firmly, the one eye widening in slight appreciation of your grip, before you retract it.

"Same to you, Pathfinder."

Choose 2 in any category 2 in exploration and science

Construction

Build Comms: If you want to get into contact with the rest of the Initiative you need to get moving on this fast, especially since you now have confirmation that the Nexus would be able to talk back to you. Cost: 5 BI, 5AI, 2E
Launch Colony: You have a site, now you just need to get the people thawed out and prefabricated buildings flying down, although it will be more expensive than it would have been had you already done various preparations. With the new adaptations done the cost has increased, but your colonists should be safe for now at least in this site. Cost: 35BI, 20AI, 10E
Construct Mines and Factories: With the prefabricated buildings you have available you have the ability to easily build some very simple material infrastructure and you have some of the best engineers and miners from the Milky Way. With the adaptations your experts are confident that only utter pig headed incompetence or malice could cause you to set off the fault line. Cost 30BI, 20AI, 8E requires the Launch Colony action
Construct Hydroponics: With a dextro world that means a majority of your population cannot easily feed themselves, and you only have so many Turians and Quarians with relevant skill sets. You're going to need to do this eventually maybe sooner than you hope. Cost 15BI, 6AI, 2E Requires the Launch Colony action
Restore the Beseria: Although operating magnificently for a craft that has been operating non stop for 600 years with effectively no maintenance the Beseria is not at its peak compared to where it was. Unfortunately fixing her is a bit...beyond your capabilities right now. Cost 400 BI, 200AI, 100E
Secure Plateau: At present this plateau is your lifeline to success and it has a giant crack running under it on a world with frequent earthquakes. It needs to have something done about it, but the costs...150BI, 50AI, 20E
Manage Resources: You've got very little in the way of stores...it'd be best if you kept an eye on them. Cost: Nothing
Adapt Shuttles: There are two schools of thought in your team. First that you have shuttles which can be turned into mining ships with a bit of adaption. Obviously this is cheaper, but they'll be worse at mining and you'll have fewer shuttles. 30BI 15AI, 8E
Build Mining Ships: Or you can build actual mining ships, you have some prefabs so its cheaper than doing it from scratch, but still pricier on the other hand they'll bring in more resources and you'll get to keep the shuttles. 50BI, 25AI, 14E

Social
Lessons Learned: Laziness and overconfidence nearly lost many lives. While not a priority as the memories are fresh and there are very few people active when the colony starts, putting them through lessons on why not to do that would be very...very beneficial.

Exploration

Explore A-6: Liazin is practically pulling at the end of her tether. Cost: 1BI
Explore A-6 system: On the other hand there is an entire solar system here as well. Cost: 1BI
Map Route to the Nexus: The Nexus has made contact, and you now know where it is. Save for a Tempest its a bit of a way, but mapping out a good route will make future trade and travel much easier Cost: 1BI,
Investigate Anomaly: 1BI for each
-White Plume: When the Pathfinder team arrived they saw a massive plume of white smoke with seemingly no cause which was highlighted for further investigation.
-Strange Tunnels: Noticed much later series of crevices burrowed through the rock, but nothing within them. They seem artificially made though.
-Null Zone: On A-6's moon there's an area your sensors cannot penetrate. This is usually indicative of rather rare minerals, but its generally better to check first.
-Speedster: A massive almost planetoid sized mass is hurtling through space on a collision course with the sun! She mostly wants to survey it because she didn't manage to get good scans of it, but there's certainly something interesting there.
-Ocean Beneath the Ice: Underneath one of the ice moons of your closest gas giant is a large body of warm water, which in turn could lead to discovering all kinds of interesting microbial life forms.

Research:
Research Flora: With the relative dearth of Dextro species, the importance of ensuring the identification of anything flat out toxic, as well as simple curiosity and cataloguing looking at native creatures of A-6 is desired. Cost: -1BI, -2AI, -0E
Research Fauna: The same can be said of the Fauna although these have the extra addition of curiosity as to how they've adapted to their environment. Cost -1BI -2AI -0E
Research Geology: Already it is looking like A-6 has one of the most impressive geological records ever encountered. Cost: -1BI, -2AI, -0E
-Research Faultline: A more specialised form of the above is to specifically research the fault line, but getting so close may be quite dangerous.

Alright turn three you lucky devils, say hello to your first recontact :p

Anyhow, here we go, and to give an idea for resource management space mining is generally more expensive and produces less than terrestrial mining, but depending on how you want to do things its your choice how you want to address your resource situation.

I'm thinking we should build mining ships and do some cheep research/exploration until we have a little more resources. While we could launch the colony or support the Plato we wouldn't have much left to build the mines on the ground. And buy making dedicated mining ships, we wont have to replace the shuttle's later

[X] Plan Let's Start
-[X] Launch Colony
-[X] Build Mining Ships
-[X] Explore A-6
-[X] Research Fauna

Start our colony and mining, in the same time take a closer look at our new home, will it try to eat us and can we eat it.
Next turn I think to build Hydroponics and take a look at local flora or one of these anomalies.
