[X] Why does Mei think exploring Thazaniel is dangerous?

"Why does Mei think exploring Thazaniel is dangerous?"

LOGRIS: "Of the island's manses, only Nuan's Reach, the fortress at the heart of Ashglass, is inhabited and claimed. Normally the satrap or the local Dragon-Bloods would be tripping over themselves to claim such a prize. Dragonlord Mei is of the opinion that they have left it alone for good reason."

LOGRIS' FACE: I disagree, of course.

"Maybe she's right."

LOGRIS: "Perhaps. Even so, I do not think we should let the opportunity to explore it pass."

LOGRIS' FACE: With or without her permission.

CRAFT: Exploring abandoned ancient manses sounds like a great idea to me.

[ ] Why do you want to enter Thazaniel?
[ ] Why don't you just sneak inside?
[ ] Why aren't you in charge of the navy marines?
[ ] I'd rather talk about something else.

[X] Why aren't you in charge of the navy marines?

"Why aren't you in charge of the navy marines?"

LOGRIS: "Oh, that. The dragonlord was gracious enough to offer me the position of auxilliary officer, but I declined. Usamir is much better suited to the role, having attended the House of Bells and having field experience as a deputy garrison commander in Gulmohar. My talents lie elsewhere."

LOGRIS' FACE: Mine are better.

"So what does that make you?"

LOGRIS: "Presently? I am a captain without a ship, a Dynast without servants, and a scholar without books. So nothing much at all, really."

LOGRIS' FACE: Thank you for asking, sarcastically.

"I thought you were a commodore."

LOGRIS: "Captain is my naval rank. Fleet commodore is an operational role, signifying my command over an expeditionary armada, without appointing me to the admiralty. Navy etiquette is quite arcane, you see. Suffice it to say that I am the leading naval officer of the armada. However, because literally everyone else surviving in the naval expedition has been breveted into the legion, I can only give orders where they do not contradict the dragonlord's."

LOGRIS' FACE: Which they often would.

"But you just gave Usamir an order."

LOGRIS: "Oh really, do you think he is going to go to the dragonlord and ask if he can be released from my instruction to draw a bath for one of her officers?"

LOGRIS' FACE: I would pay to see that.

"I see what you mean."

LOGRIS: "Magistrate, we have been talking for quite some time, and you have had a long journey. Perhaps you would like to get something to eat, and get a feel for the camp? We can pick up this conversation any time you like."

[ ] No, I need to finish talking about every topic in order.
[ ] Actually yeah, I haven't eaten anything since last night.

"Actually yeah, I haven't eaten anything since last night."

LOGRIS: "Oh, you should really take better care of yourself. Even an Exalted body cannot survive the kind of punishment you have put yours through indefinitely. And I do not just mean your injuries."

LOGRIS' FACE: I mean the cocaine laced with firedust.

"I'll keep that in mind."

LOGRIS: "It seems the rain has stopped, just in time. There is a mess hall nearby, just follow the smell of the bread. It has been a pleasure, magistrate." She offers her hand. "May I call you Vesper?"

[ ] If I can call you Logris. (shake the hand)
[ ] Magistrate is fine. (stare at the hand)
[ ] You can call me Tenebrous. (kiss the hand)
[ ] Actually, I'd prefer you to call me Tenebrous Silken Vesper in full every time. (fist bump the hand)

We should check Up on our GF, our other GF, and our totally not a sidereal in disguise.

Maybe theres a way we can do all of these at once? A foursome if you will? ;V

This is your biweekly reminder to read the rules of the quest, pls.

1) Voting in this quest is first-come-first-serve. The first person to make a response with one of the options guides the next action in the quest.
2) To prevent any one person from from monopolizing the action, nobody can make such a vote on two updates in a row. Alternating is fine.
3) Writein options are not permitted except as general suggestions to modify the approach of an existing option, which I will apply at my discretion.
4) These rules do not apply if the post is marked "This is a consquential decision, please vote." Those votes require a majority vote as normal, and writeins are allowed.

It's impossible for me to tell how many people are just voting to show enthusiasm, how many people think it's a conventional vote and then are confused when the one with the most votes doesn't win, and how many people think it's a conventional vote and don't notice when the one with the most votes doesn't win.

If you (yes, you!) are one of the ones voting to show enthusiasm, please consider leaving a short comment instead, just so I get the good vibes.

So, anyone want to forward their theories on why Mei hates us? I'll get the obvious one out of the way, and say we used to be lovers and either A) Vesper cheated on or otherwise betrayed her or B) we broke it off well before she wanted to and she took it personally.

Adding to the pile, maybe the nature of it is political. Maybe she thinks that she should be Magistrate or something.

Or maybe its similar to the Source Material.

Edit:
Spelling Error

No, I bet it's something dumb. A Lunar disguised as Vesper burnt down the Dragonlord's favourite boat. The Sidereal used Fate magic to mess up Vesper and Mei's connection, and she's angry about something trivial (we ate the last bagel). Mei thinks that Vesper betrayed her in order to get appointed a magistrate, but it was all an elaborate miscommunication.

In other words, a loose cannon supercop is haunted by a crime she didn't commit.

Actually, that last one would kind of explain why she said that the ring rightfully belonged to her. Very plausible!

The way you usually get to be a Magistrate is by fucking up and disgracing yourself so royally that you have no better option than to accept the Empress's mercy and take the appointment -- Dragonlord in the Imperial Legions is a much more stable gig with a significantly better retirement plan for an outcaste, assuming you live that long.

Narrative economy would dictate that however Mei got her face disfigured is probably related to why she hates Vesper, but that's just speculation on my part.

I'm going to guess that it wasn't any one thing, she probably just spent too much time around us. Even before we actually met her we knew we had some history - we remembered Mei's single eye without any sort of check necessary, and with more clarity than Logris' face, and then later we had a vague suggestion of remembering her anima.

Integrity told us that she's trying to get ahold of the anger because she's not sure how she'd feel without it - this isn't anger from a single incident or transgression, because otherwise it wouldn't be so intense and overriding to what seems like otherwise sound judgment. Going out on a limb, maybe we were friends or rivals or coworkers, and then we continued being such a garbage fire of a person that however she felt about us transformed into a generalized anger, because it's better than being sad or sorry for someone else. (It'd also have some similarities to a certain other character from Disco Elysium.)
