"...I think we need to know more before we decide anything." I finally decided. "Know more about the Empire, the Stormcloaks, the entire political situation. So find out if we really need to pull our people out or if we can continue to function under the new regime if they win."

We also needed a way to make contact with Ajani if needed... one that didn't involve just randomly stumbling over each other.
The politician answer.

Make a comittee to find out if you need an excutive action or not.

Eh, it is more like it has been decided that taking action is warranted, but also acknowledged that doing so without knowing what is going on is foolhardy.

I wonder how the Metaphysics of TES would fit with MTG.
Especially with the end of Kalpas and the Dreaming Godhead.
Does someone's with CHIM know that it's just plane in the endless Multiverse?

The branch in Markarth was a smaller stone building inside just inside the walls, down the hill.

It was one of three locations across Skyrim. Whiterun was one of them, Markath another. The last one was actually in Riften despite its reputation.

It was also the city closest to the Empire and a logical part to expand south from later.

Following the girls through the portal, I looked around. I had not actually been here before other than to install the portal keystone.

The portal room was small, barely more than a small storage closet, maybe three meters square. It was also used for some slight storage. Likely more for camouflage than anything else.

I really wished we had as many resources in Skyrim as we had in Meereen, but we didn't have quite the same monopoly here. It would take time to get the same kind of momentum.

"Come on." Ren said and lead the way out into the main chamber where we spotted Galkir discussing something with a large Orc, Bumnog. He was the one handling this branch. Unfortunate name, but who would laugh at somebody that looked like he could break you in half with one hand?

"...So Whiterun is falling?" He asked Galkir who was about to answer when we walked in.

Instead he looked over at us. "Atreus, Lady Ren, Lady Stark. Glad you decided to get out of there."

I nodded. "We left the portal keystone where it was, however. It is well hidden beneath the floor, so it is unlikely that anyone find it. Just as unlikely as that they will go quite as far as outright sacking the city. Nobody on either side seems want that."

Bumnog nodded and stepped forward, doing a small bow. "Indeed. I believe Galkir might have overreacted slightly. But you are all welcome here." he said before he extended his hand and I have it a firm shake.

"Glad to be here, even if we all wish it was under better circumstances." Sheila said. "But first things first, we need to find somewhere to stay while we are in town. Could your recommend a good inn?"

Bumnog smiled, revealing a great many large tusk-like teeth. "Of course, Lady Stark." he said with a another small bow. "I believe the Silver-Blood Inn is the best in town."

"That's where we will go, then." Sheila said and smiled at the large Orc. "Thank you."

"We will return later tonight to discuss matters." I said and felt for my satchel. It actually contained my glaive. Usually it was way to big to fit, but it had gone over some changes since my last visit here. The trip into the tomb showed some drawbacks in my choice of weapon.

Also, even if it was shorter than an outright spear, it was still clumsy to carry around.

In other words, I redid the entire handle part which was not easy considering how it was constructed in the first place and still keep its ability to channel magic into the blade.

The handle now collapsed down to half of its actual length, able to telescope out to its normal full two meters. One meter long, including the half-meter blade made it much, much easier to carry around, even if I had been unable to find a practical way to sheathe it yet. Perhaps something on my back. It was actually a modification of the same enchantment that let golems move their limbs.

For now, though, I simply had it fitted with a simple blade protector made of leather to make it less risky to carry around. As short as it was now, it was actually possible to use it as a kind of shortsword with a long handle... even if my actual training with a sword was very limited compared to my training with a spear. Another thing to add to the list of things that needed to be done.

I was not completely happy with the handle as it was now, but it was functional and very sturdy as well as only slightly heavier than before.

Galkir nodded. "I will be here then as well. I still need to go through everything I sent through to make sure that everything arrived safely."

As we left, Ren looked around and I quite understood why. Markarth was a rather sad looking place. We picked it because they were out of the way and at the opposite side of the country from Riften, the third site. Whiterun was in the middle. Gave the best possible customer base.

The city itself was... it was actually a rather sad if impressive place.

A old dwemer city build into the slopes of a mountain that had been taken over by the Nords. It was clear that it was in a state of decay, cracked walls, missing parts. Even some small collapses.

Nobody knew how to repair the magically infused stone.

"This is..." Ren started to say before she quieted down.

Sheila smiled faintly at that. "I know, right? You should see one of the more intact ruins like the one Atreus and I explored before. Even that was damaged, but it didn't have people living in it."

"I don't see why people live here." Ren said and shook her head. "This place is in a sorry state."

I shrugged at that. "It was here. Why build a new city when there was one here already?"

"But why? Just the silver mines?"

That caused me to grin. "Most people find silver a very good reason to move here, even without counting the value of the ruins themselves."

Ren frowned at that and shrugged, accepting it but not really agreeing.

Honestly, I didn't see the point in silver either. It was pretty, sure, but it wasn't even that good of a magical conductor.

It just seemed like it was... valuable because it was valuable. I suppose that was a change in my nature from when I was human.

...But then again, maybe not. I didn't care much for money then either, just if I had enough or not. I never did have much of an interest in getting rich.

Perhaps my new nature just reinforced that.

"Well then." Sheila said and turned to us. "What now?"

I shrugged. "Normal procedure, I guess." I answered her. "Find a room and do some research until the meeting. Learn as much about this conflict as we can in that time."

Sheila nodded. "Atreus, you go to the inn, get a drink and listen around. Ren, you are with me."

"And what are you two going to do?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

"We are going to walk around town and see if we can find a market to listen in on." Sheila said with a smile. "The only thing merchants like better than haggling is complaining about people messing with their supplies and if there is anything war does for certain, it is mess with supplies."

I love smart women.

Huh, that's a pretty good question actually, why is the silver valuable? I mean, there is a spell to turn Iron to Silver, and Silver to Gold, and everyone on Nirn is, at least in theory, capable of magic, so why isn't Iron just as valuable than the Silver?

Doesn't silver have magical properties in TES? I think silver weapons count as magical or something.

Probably some combination of the fact that modern Nords hate magic, the spell is rare ( At least, I think it is. I'm pretty sure there's only one time with it in the game), it takes more magicka than most people have (If I remember correctly), and most mages who know the spell probably have other things they'd rather do than just transmute ore all day, erryday.
So it's probably easier and more efficient to just mine it.

Edit: DAMN YOU AUTOCORRECT!!!!!!!!1!1!1!!!1!

You're correct, though it doesn't show up much in Skyrim, where it basically just has a bonus against werewolves. In some of the other games, silver weaponry could hit ghosts and other ethereal blokes just like a magic weapon, enchanted or not. If I remember right, Oblivion held to that one at least.

EDIT: Silver hits undead harder in general actually. Forgot about that.

Makes it a useful commodity in... everywhere on Nirn, actually. Atreus hasn't been paying attention to local mineralogy enough!

I crossed my arms, leaning my back against the cool stone behind me, looking out over the small city and the valley beneath. Some villages could be seen in the distance, their small fields and the smoke from their fires standing out in the clear early morning air.

Taking a slow breath, I enjoyed the clear air. I was close to the palace, my back to one of the guard towers. The wind was just strong enough to remove the smell of city.

Instead, it was replaced by the scent of snow and grass.

It reminded me of home.

I could see why the Nords wanted to free themselves from The Empire. This was their land.

But that didn't change that I was basically right in the first place. They were all for Nord Supremacy and the rest could just fuck right off.

On the other side was The Empire... who had signed the White-Gold Concordat. A peace treaty with the Aldmeri Dominion.

I didn't know the exact details yet, but from what it seemed, it involved The Empire bending over and taking it roughly from behind from the Thalmor, The Altmer Supremacist rulers of the Dominion.

Nazis to the left of me, Nazis to the right of me...

To me it seemed rather clear what would happen. Skyrim will gain it's independence. They will win this war.

They will celebrate. Then they will get rolled over by Nazi elfs about two weeks later.

Nazi elfs... fuck me. Like we didn't have enough trouble already.

Sighing I shook my head, raising my eyes to look up at the clouds. I wanted to fly. Just spread my wings and catch the winds, rising high and fast. Away from this political bollocks.

I need another vacation. But when the hell would I get the time for that with all this going on? Maybe the older dragons were right. I was trying to do too much too fast.

From an outsiders view it was clear that The Empire would either stand united or fall divided. Hell, from what I heard about the last war against The Dominion, it might fall united too.

The Empire needed to win, but they were losing.

And there was nothing we could do about it.

"Hey. Took a while to track you down," Ren said as she walked up to lean against the wall next to me, "You were gone when we woke up."

"I left a note."

That earned me a small glare, "'I'm going out.' is not sufficient!"

Sighing I slid my arm around her waist, "Sorry. Just needed some time to think."

Shifting to face me, she looked up at me, "Come up with anything?"

"Only that this place is fucked unless The Empire wins and perhaps even then... and there is nothing we can do to flip the balance. Perhaps with Ajani and Alexis help, but they are somewhere in the south with the Dragonborn, looking into the surge of dragon activity."

Ren smiled softly up at me, "You worry too much."

"It is my job too." I sighed and rested my forehead against hers gently, "We are likely going to need to evacuate our people if they agree. Best case scenario... they are pulled from everything they know to a entirely new world. How depressing is that?"

"If anyone would know, it would be you, wouldn't it?"

Smiling at that, I pulled her a bit tighter, "It sucks."

"Mmm."

"Any ideas?"

We were silent for a long moment before she looked up at me, "Would new weapons help? There are weapons in Azeroth that are more powerful than what they have here. The Dwarves have their muskets."

Guns in Azeroth were a mixed bag of effective and crazy. In technological terms, they were at about musket level but enchantments made them much more accurate. They were still slow compared to bows in rate of fire though and didn't really deal more damage. Sure, there were special gnome and goblin made weapons, but they tended to be unreliable at the best of times.

For some reason, massproducing them for cheap armies never really took off either. Mostly due to enchanted armor being able to resist them as well as a lot of things in Azeroth being hard to put down and able to just tank those bullets. There was also the fact that while you fiddle around with your muskets and try to keep your powder dry, the enemy mages are blowing large holes in your ranks.

In Azeroth, guns were specialty weapons.

Here though, they would be useful.

However...

"If we had the numbers, yes." I sighed, "But there are supply lines, manufacturing and training to think of. Even if we gave The Legions everything they needed to know today, they would never even be able to start getting their troops to field them. Then there is the new tactics needed and... sadly it won't work."

Ren frowned slightly at that and then nodded, "... You have a good point. I didn't consider that. So what do we do?"

"I don't think there is anything we can do."

"What do you want to do?"

Raising my eyes again, I looked up at the clouds, "...I want to fly."

"So let's fly. So what if somebody see it, they already know there are what they call dragons around. We just have to make sure they don't see us transform." Ren answered, "Take a break from all this for a couple of hours. Clear our heads."

I closed my eyes for a moment before I nodded, nuzzling softly, "Where is Sheila?"

"She said something about checking the local general store. They usually sell used things and she was hoping to find something interesting."

"We should tell her where we are going. She might want to come."

Ren nodded, "We should tell her even if she doesn't."

We actually did get our flight in.

A couple of hours walk from the city we transformed to our real forms, and spent the rest of the day soaring above the mountain peaks and valleys.

The wind whipped past me and I did a slow roll as I passed through a thin cloudbank before pulling up with powerful beats of my wings, coming in for landing in the deep, soft snow on the mountain peak.

Seconds later I bounded to the side as Ren landed hard next to me, pouncing at me.

I was unable to get out of the way in time and she snarled as she knocked me onto my side, pinning me down, giving the side of my neck a nip.

"You cheated!"

"I did not. I won fair and square." I chuckled and gave her a small nuzzle, "Not my fault your wingspan was too wide to be able to take the same route."

Growling down at me she gave me a lick between the eyes before she laid down in the soft snow, spreading her wing over me.

Purring softly I rolled to rest on my stomach, putting my head across her frontlegs, "We should think about getting back. The sun will start to set soon and if we don't get back in time, Sheila will start to worry. We said before sunset."

"..Little longer?" Rengosa asked as she nuzzled, "It's too rare that we get to relax like this anymore."

Closing my eyes I hmmed, "Another hour should be fine."

A long while later, I was almost asleep from the way Ren was nuzzling at my horns when she stopped and raised her head, "Do you hear that?"

"...ear what?" I mumbled, forcing my eyes open just in time to see a large shape whip past my field of view.

That woke me up real quick and I pulled away, following the shape with my eyes as I turned, rolling onto my paws, Rengosa doing the same, her wings half spread.

It was one of the local dragons, a large green one with a small sail on it's back. It was circling the mountain top, looking at us.

It was large. Larger than Ren. Even larger than Zrazta, if not as large as a full dragon. Other than that, it looked like the proto-drake look-alike we killed by Whiterun.

The dragon did another full circle before it swooped down to land at the other end of the mountain peak, maybe thirty meters away.

There was a long moment of silence before it opened it's mouth, "Fos los hi?"

I tilted my head. They could speak? Damn it, the translation ring didn't work in dragon form. Enchanted equipment worn in one form didn't translate to another. That included the ring.

There was no way in hell I was changing back or asking Ren to do that either. Not with one of the local dragons right in front of us.

"I have no idea what you are saying." I answered, lowering my head a bit in a submissive gesture. Deescalating this would be a good idea.

"Hi los ni dovah. Hi los ni med naan Zu'u nun us. Kolos hi nol?"

"Is this your territory? We did not mean to intrude. We apologize and if you allow us too, we will leave in peace." I said, slowly backing away, hoping he had a better time of understanding me than the other way around. I really, really, need to find a translation spell instead of a translation artifact.

There was no way I was risking digging into this ones head to understand it's language.

That seemed to be the wrong thing to do as the dragon reared up, propped up by it's wings, "Brah saad vun uv luft gral, nisaad!"

"Atregos, I think we should..." Ren started to say but sadly that was as far as she got before he lashed out.

"YOL-TOOR-SHUL!" the dragon yelled and fire flickered in it's mouth. We had just enough time to dive out of the way before fire flashed out in a stream across the mountain peak, the deep snow flashing to steam in it's path and I could feel the intense heat flash across me even as I dove of the cliff, taking wing.

As I dove I picked up speed before pulling up, beating my wings hard. It was not until then I had time to look back to see that Ren did the same on the other side.

Worse news was though that the local green dragon had done the same, following me.

I was smaller. The easier target.

"FO-KRAH-DIIN!" He shouted and frost flickered.

Oh fuck.

I rolled to the left and pulled up hard with a powerful beat of my wings, weaving magic to cast a mirror image spell, all four of me taking off in different directions as a beam of icy energy blasted past me.

"Atregos! Wolfpack!" Ren yelled.

"Got it!" I yelled back and when the green dragon followed one of my illusions, she dove on it, her claws digging into it's wing, tearing a strip of skin free as she let lose at it's head with her breath weapon before wheeling away as soon as it turned in her direction.

As soon as it started to go after her, I half folded my wings and turned around, diving after it while weaving another spell.

I hit it hard from above like a one ton falcon. Digging my claws into it's back I bit down on the back of its neck, casting the blinding and disorientation illusion on it. Much faster and easier to do as a contact spell, and no chance to miss either.

Ripping a piece of meat free I threw myself off of it as it started to react, flapping and trying to find me. I dropped the piece of meat and folded my wings, avoiding another beam of fire, this one not even close to either of us.

The enemy dragon beat its wings, twisting in the air but seemed to not know what to do. It was drifting, doing twists and turning to avoid expected attacks that never came.

It couldn't see, and had no idea what way was up or down.

Ren finished it, swooping around on its flank. She didn't bother with any spells, instead she just struck it hard, straight on the outer most joint of it's left wing. There was a loud sound of snapping bone and the dragon tumbled to it's death far below.

Shifting course, I slowly started to circle, following it down to make sure it didn't get away and come back at us again latter, "Ren. Are you alright?" I asked while trying to catch my breath.

"I'm fine." she answered as she took her normal position to my right wing, "I have some small burns where that first attack scorched the scales on my tail, but nothing serious."

"I'll have a look before we turn back." I answered, getting my breath back under control as the enemy dragon hit the ground hard with a loud meaty smack and the sound of snapping bone. Yeah, he was not getting back up.

"Perhaps we should save our flying around until we return to Northrend."

"...Agreed."

Use real tongue or face ruin, fake!

Fire-Inferno-Sun!
"FO-KRAH-DIIN!" He shouted and frost flickered.
Frost-Cold-Freeze!

where are you getting those from i couldn't find the translation for fos, nun, kolos, brah, saad, gral, or nisaad

mmm weird....the translation ring basically just translates almost any language you hear into the one you speak into your mind right? if you just wear it in your left hand ring finger. Why wouldn't work specifically on a dragon/human hybrid other than to have this fight happen?

Because they were not wearing them in their dragon forms. Enchanted equipment effects don't carry over.

Also, don't do magical languages.
