Maiden in Grey (Exalted/Worm)

I wrote yesterday, but just wasn't able to get to a point where anything felt finished. This next update is supposed to finish chapter one, so it needs to be right.

Have a preview instead.

I'd spent a lot of time in the dark, countless hours running, hiding, praying to anything that would listen that I'd be able to sleep through the night without being woken by cold dead hands on my throat.

Even awake, the ghosts and shades that were the only moving things willing to converse with me weren't reliably safe to be around. I spent two nights in the basement of of the almost transparent ghost of an old woman, her back almost too hunched over for her to be really human. She'd given me food unasked for, and clean water in a tin cup. I'd traded stories for her hospitality, and she's listened intently when I described my home, my school, my dad.

Then, on the third day, she'd called me out of the basement where hid for tea.

No sooner had I sat down than her thick fingers burst through her gloves, striking and biting me with lightning quickness before I could notice what was going on. The snake-fingers hissed in glee, and the old woman whose hospitality I'd accepted grew, stretched out without changing her clothes. Cloven hooves like those of a goat cracked the wooden floor.

I tried to use it, to draw out Memory's Sweet Repose, but the horror rolled over me regardless as stigmata opened on my palms with searing pain.

"Sophia." I hissed. "There's a hospital in here for the girl, right? Take her there, and tell me."

I couldn't trust myself, not like this. Not right now, with the cold water rising up and my ears held open for it to flow into my mind. More blood began to drip from my hands as I clenched them into delicate fists, the blood of every ghost and spirit I'd had to beat down in the dark of the Underworld.

"Tell me that my dad wants this put down. Hard."

Don't forget Essence respiration requirements...
I'm a bit rusty, but would 'zombie apocalypse wasteland city' count as a place o' death for Abyssals to respire motes in, thematically?

Also, quite enjoying the story, by the by. Love Exalted, but never get much past a first Draft writing anything with it. So i live vicariously reading other people's stuff.

XD

You and me both.

[information=Official Staff Communication]Thread Necromancy is not against the rules of SV. Please do not report the above post.[/information]

Honestly, if people are so upset because they've been fooled into thinking "Great! Another entry in the story!" why don't they just change their message settings to only let through messages made by the OP? This is a genuine question; I've made the change myself since whenever I watched a thread every random message appearing gets old remarkably swiftly.

Because they do want to get informed when there's new, substantive discussion on the story?

Following this, one can also check the username of the poster and the wordcount to see if it's the OP continuing or some mook. People nowadays don't bother getting the full picture.
No, that's not the issue. If you posted an Omake, or some new speculation/detailed review on a story last updated a year ago, I want to know and possibly participate in the discussion even though you're not the OP. If you just posted "Great story, Watched" I want to punch you in the face.

However this is off topic, if you want to continue this discussion PM me or start a new thread for the discussion.

Well is true isn't that good... but still isn't bad!!!

I think is really original!
No, it's bland dreck that poorly integrated Exalted material in a poor attempt to fix the issues my first try at this premix had with pacing and forward planning, but that I quickly abandoned because of a quickly growing sense that I hated Wormfic.

Soooo, you're never going to revamp it or make something from it's dead corpse?

I cry.

Alright, but final thing: wordcount is usually an excellent indicator, and you can periodically check the index of the story to see if anyone's made a new omake. Usually writers will make a section for the things readers create as a tribute.
