Hello everyone! I'm sorry that I have been unable to respond to the thread until now. I just want to let everyone know about a slight conflict I'm facing in regards to the quest.

I am unsure how blatant Mabel should be when it comes to writing about her last dream- the one that reminds her of the greatest secret she knows. I believe Mabel should be very open when it comes to her dream journal and be allowed to write anything in it. I find it to be a great tool for her to record important information about the future and pass it off as nonsense. However, I can see Mabel continue to hide the knowledge in the way previously stated or flat out spill her concerns and worries about the future and the secret of the Mystery Shack.

I would like to take a vote or roll to see how covert Mabel will be. I shall tally up the vote or roll within four hours from now. The actual post will be up around an hour after that. I'm sorry that I did not voice my concerns earlier. Thanks for playing so far!

I liked the update, curious about the method

Thank you! :D Let's move onto brighter news like explaining the "Off-Day Mode!" During days that do not involve events from the show or ones that I don't have any plans for, players will choose where to skip ahead to enjoy a minor adventure in Mabel's life at Gravity Falls. These days will only take up two to four posts unless the players or QM take interest in them.

Those things are incredibly useful. Imagine, when we finally (re?)meet Gideon we could just zap him with it and keep him locked up in a hamster cage or something. Also, GIANT HAMSTER BALLS!

This

:rofl: Awesome! GIANT HAMSTER BALLS FTW! Good fanfic! :)

I think the importance of remembering all the details is a lot more important to Mabel then keeping it completely a secret. All she has to do is claim she's just making stuff up as she goes along. Dipper would likely buy it. As long as she keeps her dream journal away from Grunkle Stan, it's not going to be taken seriously.

I think she should write her stuff in the dream journal, but I also think she should throw in random crazy stuff as well. That way she has ever thing written down, but it seems crazy to everyone else, because they don't know what details to look for. I also think she should write it in a way only she would understand, like calling things stuff like "stick figure triangle."

So I believe we have one vote for each side of the argument. I think that Mabel can write anything in her journal in whatever way she wants but, seeing as we are tied, I would like to roll for how she writes in this particular entry.

Rolling for: Mabel's Writing Style ( 1 = Clear, 6 = Code )

Edit: So this entry will be leaning more to code, but not by a lot. I'll most likely be back in an hour.
EucalyptusTree threw 1 6-faced dice. Reason: Mabel's Writing Style Total: 4

Dear journal,

Hello! So let's talk about my dream I had last night! It started out normal with me, Xyler, Craz, and Princess Polyester kicking Stormycloud's butt until he fled down a hidden stairway. We chased him but he was nowhere to be found. Then my team of teenaged tyrantstoppers vanished. And then a lot of other stuff happened that I can't remember.

Anyway, Dipper found something that seems to prove his thoughts on Gravity Falls to be true. We haven't seen anything paranormal with our own eyes but he's confident that it's out there. Maybe we'll go looking for it tomorrow. All I know is that stairways are evil, especially hidden ones. Do you think that we could find a sentient stairway so I could hear it scream when I step on it? I have issues.

I kind of wish I had someone to talk about what I'm going through but I don't really see how anyone will be able to understand. I'm not preemptively going through my angsty teenage years. This is serious and all I can do is do what I think is best at the moment and hope that the world doesn't explode. Can the world explode? It can, can it? With that out of the way, Future Me-if you are ever feeling down or succumbing to stress-induced insanity, you have to remember that there are people who care for you and you have to fight for them. Punch time in the face for me!
See you later!

Mabel

You didn't write every detail about your dream or the situation you're in. The laboratory is too great of a secret to be shared in this book for now. You did write about how you are feeling which is important to voice. You feel a little bit better with your digressions written down in this entry. Back at home, you and your mother would watch daytime talk shows discussing the importance of voicing your emotions. It was more of your mom's thing but you would join her all the time.

It's best not to think about that now.

You take a deep breath and look out the window. There isn't much to see but who knows what you and your brother will find tomorrow.

Stan relieved the two of you from gift shop duties around 3 o'clock. It had to have been 4 by now. During that time, you spent most of your time playing with sticks while your brother flipped through the journal, grumbling to himself.

Usually, you and your brother would go around Gravity Falls, find something supernatural, and try to make it back to the Shack alive. Sometimes, the abnormal would just walk right up to them. You just don't see why this was happening. Your best guess was the hat. That green cap doesn't suit him.

You approach your brother. "So, are we going adventuring today or-"

"I know. I know," Dipper groans, "I'm sorry. This book is very intimidating. I don't know where to start."

"Well, where would you like to go?" you ask.

"I kinda like to visit the lake but it's closed," he explains. "Plus, there's supposed to be an underwater head disguising itself as an island. I don't think I want to tangle with that."

And I thank you in advance. I can scare you with Bear-O another day. "Could I look through the journal?" you ask.

He hands the book over to you and watches as you search for something that catches your interests?

[X] Try to read some more of the journal.
-[X] Look for the Size Changing Crystal page

"Haunted Paintings. Cursed Doors... Hmm...... Hey, Dipper! Look at this!" you say as you hand the book back to him.

"Legends telling of miniature buffalo and giant squirrels have lead me to believe that there are height altering properties buried deep within the forest," he recites. "Interesting but Mabel, do you think we can find this place before nightfall?"

"You never know until you try! Come on!" You grab your brother's hand and start running into the forest.

~~~~~~~~~~
You take Dipper to the crystals within the hour while stopping to look at random objects and taking unnecessary detours. Making it seem like you have no idea where you're going is somehow both challenging and easy at the same time.
Your brother gazes at the massive structures reflecting blue and pink rays of light. As if to demonstrate, a rabbit twenty feet away from you hops in front of the blue light and grotesquely becomes three times your size before shrinking down the dimensions of a walnut in the pink light.
As the two of you make your way to scoop up one of the more smaller crystals, you hear a growl. "Is that mountain lion tiny or just far away in perspective?" your brother asks.
The mountain lion leaps towards both of you in response. "Perspective!" you scream. Unable to move, you and your brother cower in fear as you await claws to tear at your flesh. Suddenly, the lion is pulled back by a giant tongue. It cries and digs into the ground before getting pulled into the shadows.
"RIIIIIIIIIIIIBBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTT!!!!"
The wails of unseen animals from all round you slowly give in to silence. A few moments pass before Dipper says, "Let's go home."
"Agreed."
~~~~~~~~~~

You flick the switch on and off, casually growing and shrinking objects in your bedroom with the crystal your brother taped to a flashlight. Dipper, meanwhile, is currently busy writing additional notes about the properties of height alteration.

Just a question. Why does the gnome adventure have to do with the hat? Grunkle Stan offered it to the twins without knowing what had transpired with the gnomes? If Dipper picked something else because he already had a hat what did he pick? Also how does this effect this timeline's Cipher wheel? Nice coding on the Heading BTW.

Just a question. Why does the gnome adventure have to do with the hat? Grunkle Stan offered it to the twins without knowing what had transpired with the gnomes? If Dipper picked something else because he already had a hat what did he pick? Also how does this effect this timeline's Cipher wheel?

As of right now, Dipper still has the cap he was wearing in episode one. Due to Mabel's actions so far, there has not been an opportunity for Dipper to receive a new hat or Mabel to obtain a grappling hook. However, the twins now have a height alteration ray; ready for usage. I expect more changes in the timeline will occur as Mabel's -and Dipper's- inexperience with the supernatural was crucial for a formula used in about one-third of episodes 1 to 31: Twin A has/will create a problem most likely involving the paranormal elements of Gravity Falls, Twin B helps throughout the episode but Twin A tends to ultimately solve the conflict and learn the primary lesson because of it. Since Dipper and Mabel did not have to endure the gnomes at full power, Grunkle Stan did not see their disheveled state and take pity on them yet, in this timeline, Mabel has already taken steps to build up their friendship with Grunkle Stan. We'll just have to wait and see what Mabel's further actions will have on Gravity Falls.

Back to the issue of the hat, most of my comments about it are just me poking fun at the fact that Dipper still has not received his symbol on the Cipher wheel which is still a pine tree.

Nice coding on the Heading BTW.

Thanks! :D I've been hiding codes in a few of my story posts since day one. The codes in posts one and four are arguably the most relevant right now. I'll probably continue to hide some more every couple of posts. Anyway, have a great rest of your day!

So there's lots of coded messages huh? Just figuring out what to decod is a challenge in and of itself.

Hello everyone. I'm sorry I have not updated MabelQuest yet. I have several big projects due today that relate to my work. I believe the newest update will be complete and on the thread by tomorrow evening. Thank you for reading this and have a great day!

OOC: I'm sorry everyone. Balancing finals and finding work gave me little time to continue Mabelquest in the last two months. It was cowardice of me to not admit my mistakes and postpone the series. You deserve to know what was going to happen next. I would really love to continue this story but I completely understand if you do not wish to. The options still remain though. There is also my current fluctuating schedule that I need to worry about if we are to continue. However, I will make sure to keep you notified. Thank you for reading this! Have a great day!

[X] Dinner Time with Stan and Dipper

"So what happened with you two today?" Grunkle Stan asks as he scoops the last bits of mashed potatoes into his mouth.

You rattle around your brain a bit on how to respond. Then, it hits you: the perfect mediocre pun to say at this moment. Dipper sees the look on your face and scowls. He waves you to stop but it's too late. Your mind has already been set.

"Well, I guess you could say that the adventure we had today was very ribbit-ing."

Your brother plants his face down on the table. The metal does little to silence his groans.

So worth it.

"Huh-What's this about?" Grunkle Stan asks.

Dipper lifts his head to reply. "We got scared by a giant frog."

It was the truth. He didn't say how big he meant by 'giant frog' but he wasn't lying to him. It only feels like a lie to you because you know the whole truth. You know more than nearly everyone in this town but that wasn't relevant to this situation right now. You've gotten better at telling lies and keeping secrets over the summer; however, Dipper took it much faster. Even now, you could see glimpses of the boy detective you used to know. CLO YBQQBO LO TLOPB.

"Geez, you wimps would be hopeless without me!" your grunkle manages to spit out between laughs. The old man before you takes a deep breath. "Well, if you run into any more frogs, just come to me. I'll deal with them. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some unfinished business to attend to."

'Unfinished business?' You try to remember what happened back in the previous timeline. It had been so long since you had thought about this day and the events to come later usually overshadow days like these. Well, it wouldn't hurt to ask.

"What do you mean by 'unfinished business,' Grunkle Stan?" Your voice is sweeter. Your eyes are softer.

"Just a little something special between me and Benjamin Franklin," he says as he makes his way to his office.

That's right, we're supposed to be arrested tomorrow.

The specifics on how the police discovered Grunkle Stan's scheme escape you but the thought of how cold the county jail cell was occupies your mind while you wash the dishes and prepare for bed.

~Day Three~

[X[ Talk to Wendy and Soos

"So there's no way that we could have a sleepover at either one of your houses tonight?" you ask.

"Sorry, dude. It's Elderly-Folks-Night-In at my grandma's house and Auntie Margret despises anyone between the ages of nine and forty-nine. She barely tolerates me," the man of wisdom and question mark t-shirts stated with sorrow.

"Yeah and my younger brothers are hosting a sleepover of their own. It's hectic when there was only three of them. They're like ten times more rowdy with their friends around." the teen says, clearly more perturbed than her apologetic smile would like to give.

"That's okay," you reply as you look towards the ground. It was probably for the best. One of the few reasons why Grunkle Stan only spent one night in jail was that he had two kids to look after who just so happened to be taken into custody on the same charge as him. The problem was how he got caught last time and if there was a way to prevent that.

You take in your surroundings once again. Soos was on his way to fix some pipes outside.

You put the issue at hand on the back burner to talk with Wendy. "Sooooooooo, I met your boyfriend a few days ago," you giggle out.

"Hmm? Oh-who?" The redhead pauses as she mentally runs through a list of names. "Nate's out of town, last time I heard. I haven't talked to that dude with the tattoos in months. Maybe it's Mark Epston? I don't think I've ever actually-"

"Robbie!" you shout, cheerful as ever.

Wendy continues to stare at you before the pieces begin to fit in her mind. "Wait. Did Robbie say that I was his girlfriend?"

You don't really know where this is going.

"I guess it sort of just slipped out," you reason, "So you don't want to be his girlfriend?"

"I don't know. He's a great friend-a bit self-absorbed but his music's pretty good," the teen explains.

"Well, the four of us should hang out sometime. I think we'd get along just fine." So long as Dipper doesn't get insanely jealous and Robbie doesn't try to mind-control you.

"Sure thing, Mabel," she replies, "I'll try and set something up with the two of you and my gang sometime in the future."

"Thanks, tell Robbie I said 'Hi! I was the kid in the pink sweater!'" you say as you walk outside to check up on Soos. It turns out that he was heading back to the gift shop, having finished the job only at the cost of getting his t-shirt wet.

"What do you think, Mabel?" Soos asks, motioning to the series of interconnected pipes.

You shrug. "I don't know much about plumbing."

"Neither do I," the man states, "but I've committed most of the Mystery Shack's layout to memory: rusty drains, squeaky floorboards, et cetera. I've been able to fix many of the problems this establishment has faced."

The two of you hear an explosion in the distance, followed by the screams of children.

"For example, the soda machine. I'll be right back," he says as he runs to the front of the gift shop.

It is quiet again and you are left to your thoughts before you hear another set of sounds: a camera flashing off, flesh connecting with wood and the whines that came after.

You walk towards the noises and find the bruised balding head of Toby Determined.

"Hey Toby! What'cha doin'?" you ask.

He stops nursing his wounds to look at you. "You've heard of me!? -I mean- Of course you've heard of me. Well, I guess you could say that I'm doing a little investigative journalism." He chuckles to himself, adjusting his suspenders as he leans back against a window. "But I think I've gathered enough evidence for today. You'd better run on home, little girl. This shack isn't the safest place to be."

The reporter takes off as fast as his tap-dancing legs can take him.

It couldn't be. Wait.

You hoist yourself up to get a good look though the window Toby was resting on. You can see the interior of Grunkle Stan's office with the printing press carefully placed underneath its tarp.

[X]Mystery Hunting Stakeout

All things considered, it was pretty easy getting into town with Dipper. Soos was kind enough to give you a ride. The most difficult part was finding a reason to get Dipper to go with you in the first place. You didn't think it was wise to just say that your guardian for the summer was going to get arrested for counterfeiting, especially since he didn't really know him like you did due to the circumstances. So you decided to to find anything in the journal that might lead the two of you into town. Then, you found this wonderful page:

Possessed Graffiti

As I wander around the alleyways between the businesses of Gravity Falls, I made it a priority to listen carefully and document my findings. I have noted small inconsistencies such as the position of an arm or a letter changing color amongst the various drawings and offensive language teenagers and children leave behind the moment I turn my back. Unfortunately, the scribbles refuse to demonstrate their abilities on video. I have only been able to capture the aftermath. However, these creatures leave an audible calling card in the form of shifting gravel or crackling paint. While these drawings have yet to show malicious intent, it is unknown how harmful graffiti can be compared to paintings, photographs and other haunted mediums.

So here you are, ducking in and out of alleys as you inch your way to the Gravity Falls Gossiper with your brother. You hum a fitting spy tune in your head to combat the anger and frustration building inside.

As you approach the reporter's place of work, you see Toby holding his rotary phone and spinning the wheel three times.

Still unaware of the current situation, Dipper continues to reread the pages and says, "Uhh, Mabel. I believe the book was telling us that our best chances at-"

You grab him by the arm and motion him to be quiet. Your brother gives you a questioning look but follows anyway. Keeping low to the ground, you slowly open the door and sneak in.

"Ahem. Hello Toby Determined here with another anonymous tip to the police. It appears that a secret counterfeiting racket may be taking place in The Mystery Shack, local tourist stop run by Stanford Pines," the reporter dictates "Yes, I have evidence. Yes, I'll hold........ for now." The cries and shouts coming from across the line are clear even on your side on the room. "I'm sorry, Deputy. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.-Sheriff! I was only trying to be dramatic!"
