    The Ebi have about 120 Samurai. The Nishikigoi a bit above 200. The Kimura have ~750 and the same holds for the Tako.

    The Irabi have about 1000. Ditto for the Benizake and the Buri. You are currently at about a 2:1 numbers disadvantage.

    The "neutral" samurai clans are ordered as follows:

    Umineko-Largest of the four
    Ashika-Close behind the Umineko in numbers.
    Kaki- 200-300, probably. They've been getting reamed over the last decade or two.
    Fugu- Bit bigger than the Ebi.

    What's the common sense attacker defender ratio for samurai clans sieging a castle? Are there castles in the way between the Ebi and the theoretical Irabi army?

    They have a fortified castle/fortress set up on their border--which is essentially carved out by a small-sized river-- on the other side of a bridge that spans the river into Irabi Clan territory. They could probably hold this for a while with a ~3:1 ratio of attackers/defenders, but anything more than that is going to get messy quickly. The exact numbers can get dicey once you factor in quality distributions.

    Most of the samurai in the country are approximately as tough as a strong genin, with the majority of the remainder being ~chuunin. Each clan has a proportionate amount of elite troops that more closely resemble special jounin.

    hm hm new plan based on helping out Ebi

    it's a three g plan to disable an Irabi army - gaslight gatekeep girlboss
    gaslight - raise flags around them of the entire allied forces flag, but don't actually attack - just hanging out enough to put pressure on the commanders
    gatekeep - once they hit a major crossing or the border, use numerical advantage to keep them trading
    girlboss - shizuka / zabuza / kakashi goes in and assassinates their commanding officers, and then fishboy leads a night raid / all out attack same night
    the commanders just died in the shocking night raid, no ninja involvement whatsoever :)

    I'm a bit leery of attacking. Why hasn't this been done before?

    @MMKII would it be too cheese to ask, before the update, the Crab Kid what "honorable" ways he thinks the other samurai clans are likely using their hired ninja for, since they're obviously not being hired for assassinations and the like.

    And we know that the samurai can't water walk, can they utilize explosive tags?

    Kenichi swears that there are no ninja native to Sea Country, and confidently states that any ninja within it are random outsiders such as yourself. After conferring with the rest of your companions, you are confident that he truly believes this.

    Kakashi remains skeptical that there are no other ninja in Sea, but concludes that if there are other shinobi present, they are either taking a delicate approach to the conflict or they otherwise don't have skin in the game for some reason.

    Samurai are unable to use explosive tags.
     
    I now believe that there's a some sort of NATO-esque agreement that's binding the actions of the outside ninja that've been hired on by the opposition.

    Thousands of Samurai (even if they're mostly genin and Chunnin), united against a common enemy? We'd die in a heartbeat, overwhelmed by numbers.

    If we move towards violence, then we should act with discretion.

    @MMKII does Kakashi know how good Zabz is at Stealth?

    In normal conditions you presume he's at least as good as Kakashi himself. Under cover of fog or smoke you suspect he's a fair bit better, given old intel.

    I think Zabz can pull it off, especially if he uses his HitM and tags associated Aspects. Not sure how we can pull off the false flag/boosted numbers, but I'm down to at least try.

    Too bad the Samurai can't use explosives, otherwise I'd say let's arm them.

    Generally the characters' are more than capable of plying their skillset to a given situation barring unique and out of the ordinary circumstances. In truly desperate situations this might not be enough, but this is far closer to an unusual Tuesday for the ninja than it is the cave fight with Dragon.
     
    Ah, I feel as though I may have strayed from "clarifying intent" and into "micromanaging smart characters and neglecting their agency," possibly even "backseat QM-ing." Sorry!
