Lords of Silk and Stone (Exalted 3rd, DB)

Jades Evergreen Soul, Wood Aspect Sanitation Pioneer

Evergreen Soul is a Lost Egg who one day, seemingly out of nowhere, Exalted with Aspect markings that showed that his blood was a strong as any Dynast of the Blessed Isle. While noteworthy in of itself, what truly caught the attention of House Jades was that his Aspect expressed itself in forms more appropriate to the great conifers and pines of the distant Northeast than the jungles of the Southeast, for his instinctive command of his body's needles indicated that he might be a descendant of a thought to be long-lost Gens whose scions had born and possessed the right to wield the ancestral Evocations of the longfang Slumbering Briar. While certain members of the house watch Evergreen Soul as he grows in power, to see if his heritage is as they suspect, Evergreen Soul has only a passing interest in being a warrior and no natural talent as a socialite, and so prefers to dedicate himself to studies of sanitation and urban planning, to promote greater overall health in Taira.

Who are your kin?

Jades Talotu
, Evergreen Soul's new "father," and Earth Aspect who helped cultivate his "son's" unrelenting distaste for all things filthy and cluttered into a drive to develop long term solutions to the sources of his ire. While he has not had as much time to pass on his wisdom since Evergreen Soul's training and education completed, he looks on what his adopted son does with great interest. Or amusement, in the case of his soon-to-be daughter-in-law.
Jades Seridi is Evergreen Soul's fiancee. Despite the marriage being arranged as part of his adoption years ago, Evergreen Soul allowed that knowledge to slip his mind and now feels fairly blindsided now that the nuptials are less than a year away. While not exactly displeased at the thought of marrying the pretty, vibrant Fire Aspect, he also has no idea what to do with her. That Seridi approaches her desire to acquaint herself with her future groom with all the intensity of a tiger on the hunt has not soothed his nerves.
Jades Morning Glory, House Jades's premier medical specialist and pharmacist, and Evergreen Soul's primary teacher. While skilled, some of the more reserved members of the House mutter that she has passed on her eccentricities to her student. While proud of what Evergreen Soul is capable of so far, she is at the endlessly unimpressed with the current limits of his medical skill, and will hound him about it until his skill meet her satisfaction.

What does your House want?

Technology. With the Scavenger Lands to the north and the primal jungles to the east, Taira is a prime location to launch expeditions searching for wonders and relics of the First Age, Shogunate, and the legendary Dragon Kings. While pursuit of the legends of Rathess have so far only led to empty-handed or vanished exploration teams, ruins like the Shogunate temple recently discovered make the pursuit of lost treasures a worthwhile venture yet.

Why are you involved?

Evergreen Soul is a skilled medic, and his assistance would be invaluable in the event that the temple contains lost pockets of ancient plagues, or is protected by deadly poisons and curses. On Evergreen Soul's part, he hopes to uncover medical practices, tools, perhaps even recipes, that surpass the woefully lacking knowledge of the Age of Sorrows. As a side benefit, it gives him a chance to gather his thoughts and adjust to his upcoming wedding.

I said Saturday because that is when I have a day off, basically. Morning or afternoon are both viable, evening can be a bit of a stretch since I need to wake up at 5am Sunday morning, and I find that ~4 hours tends to work best for a session. Specifics will be decided at a later point, once I have an idea of everyone's availability.

(I can do other days if needs be, but Saturday is the one where I don't have any other commitments at all, so it made for the best starting point)

I'm looking for 3-5 players.

That works very well for me, as a matter of fact! I'll get a sheet up soonish.

Jades Ruby Fang, Fire Aspect wandering warrior

Ruby Fang was a Lost Egg adopted by House Jades when he Exalted, and since then has spent his time wandering through the East, acting as eyes and ears for the House. He has picked up various arts during his travels, focusing on improving his knowledge of the world. He personally considers himself something of a philosopher, and believes that he can best refine his philosophies by wandering the world and seeing Creation's wonders and Essence flows. By his House, he is considered a somewhat useful source for information, as he will generally direct his wanderings where the House needs him to, though they would prefer that he devote his time to things more directly useful to the House. Ruby Fang himself has finally given in to their requests, returning home to be given a direct assignment in the field. His penchant for getting into and out of trouble will hopefully prove somewhat useful, far away from the House's direct holdings. Especially since he returned with proof of his recklessness in the form of a tyrant lizard he keeps as a familiar and companion, known as Claws and Jaws of Demise.

Who Are Your Kin?

Jades Sapphire Claw
is Ruby Fang's sister, who Exalted as a Wood Aspect recently and has made her way from the Threshold towards the lands of the Realm. Ruby Fang recently made contact with her, and has begun tentatively establishing a relationship with the sister he barely remembers. While somewhat tentative due to being unfamiliar with each other, their initial bond is strong, and they remain on good terms. Sapphire Claw was adopted into House Jades shortly after Ruby Fang's return, though she is still learning how to fit into Dynastic culture.

Jades Camalin is a Earth Aspect and the sponsor of Ruby Fang to House Jades, and recently sponsored Sapphire Claw. Retiring after decades of service to the House, he is relatively inactive in the modern day, preferring to spend his time tending his garden and recording his philosophical insights into Creation. He enjoys mentoring Lost Eggs, though he frames his teaching in metaphors more often than not.

Jades Merin is Ruby Fang's betrothed, the great-grandniece of Jades Camalin. A Wood Aspect, she is seemingly demure when in public, however her personality changes drastically in private. Ruby Fang has spent the last several years extending his wanderings, finding reasons to avoid running into her. He likes her well enough in public, but feels that her nature in private is something best taken in small doses in order to adapt to it. Given that Camalin often left them alone for hours at a time when Ruby Fang was still at home, in order to socialize, Ruby Fang has developed something of a phobia for being in the same room as a woman without others around. However, he has found the will to make a second attempt, though he is being much more cautious this time.

What does the House want?

Anarchy in Taira sufficient to justify intervention. Ruby Fang is very good at causing trouble and surviving it, and it is the hope of the House that he will apply this talent to Taira so they can send in their forces to take control of the area. From the temple, the House desires for Ruby Fang to ensure that the other Dragon-Blooded make it to their goal, retrieve the treasures in the temple, and make it safely out, then back to the House with the retrieved items. Ruby Fang is familiar with the terrain, and his admittedly somewhat dated local knowledge may be useful in finding their way back to House Jades.

Why Are You Involved?

Ruby Fang has a penchant for finding his way through troubled situations, and with the anarchy in Taira, he is practically ideal for this mission. He is essentially a fish in water when dealing with chaos, and in this case, that might be useful to help establish control over Taira. At the very least, Ruby Fang is sufficiently skilled to survive, and it is the House's hope that this will temper him and get him to settle down and do his duty to reproduce. He also looks forward to the challenge of getting into the temple and retrieving its secret treasures.

Might be best if I pass on this for now, then, given how many people have already submitted concepts and the timeframe. Though I would like a link to the discord so I can read the logs.

(I'm still interested in playing, but... I'm EST.)
Same here. Doesn't look like I'll be able to play, but I'd like to watch!

Bit of a houserule, following some discussions on Discord - Craft will borrow the Lore rules for it's ability rating. You have a single Craft ability, but need to specify what your background is in, rather than needing to buy multiple abilities for it. Branching out into other areas of focus is handled as though you were acquiring another speciality dot.

We are however still using the actual Crafting system. Sorry to those who don't like it.

Where is this taking place on Discord (and what is Discord?)? I don't think I'd ever heard of it before this quest.

Jades Icon, née Alabaster Icon Hidden in the Garden, Earth Aspect mechanic (20)

Icon is one of the most recently acceded members of House Jades, and its least regarded. As a Lost Egg of no known heritage and a stubborn, willful child, she had found her small place in the House under the apprenticeship of one of its elders. But her accomplishments were scorned or ignored and now she's being married off to some pretty-but-obnoxious castoff from House V'neef. Something has to be done to prove to them that, no, she really is a capable and valuable member of the House.

Who are your kin?

Steady Copper Turtle:
Icon's natural father came downriver to Zamash thirty years ago fleeing something - he's dropped hints that it was a war, or a debt, or a spurned lover, but won't speak of it directly - and set up shop as a clockmaker. His Tairan wife died in childbirth the day the old Shah was murdered, and a few years later he packed up and left the city, fearing for his and Icon's lives in the general instability. He came to the Jades lands for their relative safety and hired himself out to the House.

Jades Regus: Icon's adoptive father never wanted her, but when she (to everyone's shock) Exalted at thirteen he and his wife were deemed the most convenient place for her. His fiery passion and Icon's pugilistic (sometimes literally) stubbornness are a terrible mix and the troubles of their household are well-known within House Jades, to neither of their credits. Worst of all, his natural son Arin (who is Icon's age) has still not Exalted.

Regus is somewhat bitter about how the Cadet Houses are viewed by the Realm and wants to increase the purity of his House's blood. He is a master of the blade and enthusiastically participates in Wyld Hunts, and once dueled an Anathema and survived long enough for the Hunt's sorcerer to kill her.

(Defining Principle: I am a Prince of the Earth and due all of the respect and rights of this station.)

Jades Malin: Icon would likely not be a member of Jades at all if not for Malin, her mentor and master. A centuries-old master craftsman, she had gravitated to him as a child and, in his old age he found her endearing and took her in as a student. When she Exalted he lobbied hard to have her adopted into Jades, arguing that he needed her for an important project. Malin was one of the founding members of House Jades and is respected but also viewed as eccentric.

What does the House want?

Under one of their mountain fortress-towns lies a great wheel of white jade, banded in red, blue, black, and green, resting on a hundred tiny moonsilver spheres. As the seasons pass and the elemental poles wax and wane, a subtle force is exerted on the wheel, causing it to rotate. This wheel serves as a source of mechanical power capable of pumping water from deep underground and lifting the elevators that serve as the only way into the fortress. Until only a few years ago the wheel didn't function, but Malin and Icon fixed the alignment of the bands and replaced the mostly-rotted system of ropes, pulleys, and the occasional jade-steel chain. The fortress can now handle much greater volumes of traffic in and out, and is more resilient to sieges.

Why are you involved?

Icon thought that fixing the great wheel would give her a measure of respect from her House, but found that they all believed it was really Malin's accomplishment, and his praise of her merely grandfatherly doting and favoritism. And now she's being married to this... this UGH she can't stand him. Maybe if she shows her worth this time they'll finally realize she really is just as much a Prince of the Earth as the rest of them. And if she spends enough time around this V'neef Isra maybe she can convince him no, he really doesn't want to marry her. She managed to secure her place on the expedition by arguing that, after Malin (who says he's far too old for this sort of thing) she has the most direct experience with restoring Shogunate relics.

Note re: ManusDomine / Cornuthaum

This character could vary somewhat depending on who is accepted and in what form. If both or neither of their characters are accepted, the betrothal part of Icon's story can be elided without too much change (or V'neef Isra could be an NPC, but I'm not sure the dynamic is as entertaining then). Similarly if ManusDomine is admitted but not Cornuthaum, the references to V'neef Isra require only minor changes to point to Mnemon Isra instead. I am perfectly happy playing any of these variations; I had mostly envisioned Icon prior to the betrothal idea.

How does Many Scales of the Dragon (automatically get 1 dot in any craft that shares your aspect) work for this?

Jades Byeol Geum-ai Air Aspect (25)

Freshly returned from a successful stint at the Heptagram Geum-ai much as her mother did before her, Geum-ai yearns for a challenge to prove herself against and make a mark. Powerful Not to mention gather the wealth and respectability that will enable her to return to the Blessed Isle and spend goodly amounts of time ... studying , yes that's it ... with her dearest friend Sesus Lei (fire aspect, female).

Geum-ai is without a doubt a natural dreamer, floating from whim to whim as if a warm breeze of Resplendent Water encouraging others to see Creation as the wondrous place it truly is seeking out moments of beauty. Yet that isn't all there is to Geum-ai, when those who seek to desecrate that which she holds dear a terrible frozen wraith rises up with in her and unleashes itself in a shattering strike of lightening.

Geum-ai's superior breeding is evident in her flawlessly white skin, emerald blue eyes and early exultation at the age of nine. However the one peculiarity of the Byeol line remains her long flowing mane of hair practically gleams of gold in the sunlight, as auspicious trait in the south-east but regarded as dangerous in the Blessed Isle

Her Kin

Jades Byeol Nogjuseog
is without a doubt the premiere Sorceress of the region with well over three hundred years of experience and one of the pillars of House Jades. A royal beauty of fine features, sapphire blue eyes and long flowing hair that reaches the ground many admired her from afar.

She is also Geum-ai's mother and matriarch of the Byeol, ruler of the mountain fortress Manse that bares the name of a once great Gens who almost completely died out during Balor's Invasion only to be subsumed into House Jades. Built by the Dragon King's, successive generations have worked to maintain and add on it, the altar to Sol Invictus remains the heart of the Manse [Air / Solar]

Nogjuseog however with the death of her husband nearly a decade ago has been retreating into ever more esoteric sorceress research mostly ignoring the outside world. A decline Geum-ai hasn't been able to address during her studies at the Heptagram.

Jade Byeol Kun-Jai-Teo
is Geum-ai's uncle who at a hundred and thirty is well known as one of House Jades premiere strategists and a dangerous enemy to make. For all that his wrath is cold grinding and relentless his silver tongue is equally sly, utterly ruining a woman's reputation with a few carefully selected words.

A powerfully built man whose cool features are often remarked to a pleasing blend of Earth and Air, Kun-Jai-Teo is often hard at work drilling troops, scouting the borders and barely ever enjoying the finer things in life in favor of more work since the death of his son during a Wyld Hunt two years ago.

Geum-ai who just needed to pout to get Kun-Jai-Teo to pay attention to her when she was young is growing concerned about her uncle burying himself in work in his grief, much as her mother has.

Jades Copper Wok Sogigi
is a recently adopted member of House Jades who runs a very bustling restaurant in Byeol. Geum-ai's new favourite in fact.

A wandering fire caste chef whose traveling food cart has been popping up all over the Scavenger Lands for the last decade Sogigi was an apprentice of the legendary wandering chef Wei whose culinary skills earned an invitation from the Empresses herself ~ co-incidentally one of the legendary Seasons weapons went missing at the same time.

Very much counted as a coup for House Jades, Sogigi not only brings in wealth he's also inspiring a culinary revolution as many seek to learn from him. Geum-ai can't get enough of his bbq.

What does the House Want?

Rumors of an ancient Jade mine that once feed the foundries of Denandsor have always circulated. Nogjuseog in her dealings with the demons of Yozi, and the elemental courts has recently discovered that the rumors are no lie. Sadly however the detailed maps that would reveal the mines location among other wonders is currently locked away in the vault of a Demon Lord, but Nogjuseog can acquire it ..... for a price.

Her Own Goals

Geum-ai's compassionate heart is bleeding with worry for both her mother and uncle, who have buried themselves in research and work away from the beauties of everyday life, yet they both still treat her as if she's a callow ignorant child. By proving herself against the dangers of the temple both occult and physical Geum-ai believes she can finally reach her elders and help finally lessen their grief.

That the wealth would let her enjoy visit and enjoy the company of her beloved friend Lei for a few years is merely a happy bonus

So now that we have 8/3-5 players, is there going to be a cutoff, or is Maugan just going to pick the ones he likes best?

For the record, actually having a proper sheet is a prerequisite for getting selected. I'll be picking based on which character concepts I like, but you'll need the mechanics as well to be considered.

So, right now I'm thinking a spy/spymaster type character loosely based off Hughes from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Yes, he has a small painting of his wife that he'll show off and gush about her to anyone who wants to hear and some who don't.

Yes, he is still incredibly competent.

I'm somewhat interested, but given that I live in GMT-6 and am not much of a morning person, I recognize that I'm unlikely to get in even if I do come up with a good concept.
