Living In A World Of Monsters: Redo Edition (Monster Hunter Outsider Quest)

[X] Begin Exploration: This entire area is strange to you. It is time to begin your observations and satisfy some of your curiosities of this world. (???)
[X] Find Shelter: You will require a "Base" of your own to operate out of. If only to ensure your observations go that much smoother. There must be a vacant cave system or such somewhere. (Find Shelter; ???)

@LinkOnScepter , you probably want to mark the update as a Threadmark.

Find their bases first so that we don't squat right on their doorstep.

OK. Find shelter and explore.

So, 97 to find shelter and 76 + 10 (Cognition) = 86.

Pretty lucky first day.

Sounds like we probably found a nice lair. Maybe some kind of air access only cave so we don't have to worry about non-flying wyverns trying to get in.

For the record, I haven't dropped this.

I'm just trying to write a 10k Word Chapter for one of my fanfics. So...yeah.

Day 1
[X] Begin Exploration: This entire area is strange to you. It is time to begin your observations and satisfy some of your curiosities of this world. (???)

Roll: 76 + 10 (Cognition) = 86. Good Success!

Your exploration proves to be extremely fruitful. You end up discovering more than a few useful factoids about the area you now call "home". Or at the very least, the place that will be your home for the foreseeable future.

The first is that this land is strangely interconnected. It seems that, rather than be a single landmass where one can easily move from one area to the other in a straight line, the mountains are "separated" so to speak. That is not to say it is impossible to move from one part of the region to another by simply moving in a straight line. Your wings afford you that ability, and there are plenty of drops off of cliffs that you should be able to survive....if you make careful use of your claws.

However, the most efficient way to move through the region proves to be these "paths" that connect the different parts of the region. You are unsure if these paths were made by the "Hunters", another Wyvern, another creature, or were a natural creation of the land itself. But they offer a quick and simple way to move from one part of the land to the next.

The second involves the three "Zones", as you have decided to call them, that are closest to the shelter you discovered. You have divided these Zones by letters and have organized them in your mind by how high they are on the tallest mountain. By extension, the taller they are the colder the climate.

Zone A: The top of the mountain. This place would offer you a great vantage point to observe the rest of the landscape from...if the icy winds that blew across the mountain range weren't so thick. They move fast enough that even your enhanced sight can't glean anything of the land below. But it is fine. You also believe there is something interesting here. But you have yet to fully discover it. It connects to Zones B and C.

Zone B: The Zone that is further down the west side of the mountain. This area connects offers easy access to the inner part of the mountains, where various ice caves and otherwise reside. It connects to Zone A, Zone B, and your Home.

Zone C: A Zone identical to Zone B, however the amount of surface area is far higher than that of the previous Zone. In addition, it is along the eastern side of the mountain. Other than that, everything else is almost precisely like Zone B. It connects back to Zone A, Zone B, and your Home.

The Zone that you have designated your "Home" is a bit of a misnomer.

The Zone itself represents the central area of the region. Formed deep within the mountain itself, the Zone is made up of multiple ice caves and other such structures that were likely created over the years. The temperatures here easily hit the negatives, meaning that any creature without the appropriate protection or body type would freeze within moments. With your current body such things are but light annoyance to you.

The Zone itself connects back to Zone C, and two other Zones that you believe are further down the mountain. You have refrained from approaching these for now. You will keep your explorations to this area of the mountain until you find some Shelter.

Which you had.

Exploration Greatly Successful! Gained info on the surrounding area and how it is connected! Snowy Mountains Area now 50% Explored!

[X] Find Shelter: You will require a "Base" of your own to operate out of. If only to ensure your observations go that much smoother. There must be a vacant cave system or such somewhere. (Find Shelter; ???)

Roll: 97. Great Success!

And it proved to be worthwhile.

The Shelter itself was one of the many ice caves. However, the thing that made it perfect for your uses was what it once was.

That being?

The cave of the Barioth that you assimilated for your body.

You discover this after finding various strands of shed fur that are identical to what you have now. In addition to the various claw marks that match yours perfectly. This proves to be a major boon. For one thing, the entire cave has already been made to fit your body dimensions exactly. No need to worry about space.

For another, the ice in this cave seems to be rather weak compared to the rest. If you carefully apply your claws and tail to the job, you may be able to expand the size of the cave. This would allow you to keep more things inside it besides yourself.

Lastly, there is only one entrance and exit to this cave. A hole in the top that can only be accessed either through flight or climbing up the side of the mountain. And by the time they arrive, you'll have already discovered them.

By and large?

This is the perfect Shelter for your purposes.

It will be useful going forward.

....

Your first arrival in this world went rather well.

Statistically speaking, it should stay that way.

Shelter Found! New Actions Unlocked! Shelter Gives a +40 to Rolls to Discover Invading/Attacking Monsters/Hunters!

Day 1 Begins

Training (Choose 2):

Social/Observations (Choose 1):

[] Begin Exploration: This entire area is strange to you. It is time to begin your observations and satisfy some of your curiosities of this world.
- [] General Exploration: Learn more about the general Snowy Mountain Landscape. Currently 50% Complete. (45/50/70)
- [] Unknown Exploration: Focus on exploring Zones and places that you have yet to see. Higher Chance to increase Exploration Percentage, but Higher Chance to run into Trouble (20/30/40/60)

[] Observe the Wildlife: You have yet to encounter any of the local Monsters or Wyverns. You should make use of that and see what you might run into here. (Learn About Local Monsters) (20/40/60/80/100)

[] Look for the "Hunter" bases: Based on previous observations, there should be some places that the Hunters use as a base around here somewhere. You would do well to find them. If only so you know where a Hunter will appear if they arrive here. (???)

[] Look for "Hunters": You are curious to see these "Hunters" in their natural states. Observing them will be difficult, but likely worthwhile in the long run. (???)

Got my chapter in, so here's a new update real quick.

Thanks to this video for helping me out with the location.

Oh, for the record: Zone A = Zone 8, Zone B = Zone 7, Zone C = Zone 6, and your home is currently in Zone 5.

I will also say, that I generally consider the Zones in Monster Hunter to be kind of 'representative'. They aren't necessarily intended to be all of a given biome, just enough to showcase all the main features and monster lairs you encounter in that kind of biome. Since otherwise they'd be way too small to actually host the number of high level predators like Wyverns that live in them. Presumably, the acutal areas are much bigger, it's just assumed that the Hunters are going to the particular mountain/patch of forest/section of gorge/whatever that contains the monster(s) they're stalking on that expedition, with the presumption that a given 'biome' actually consists of several such segments, they're just similar enough to use the same map.

Still useful to use as a basis for our locale though.

I'm assuming that even if the areas are similar to the game they're ultimately larger.

Yes.

This will be the real poll.

OK. Observe the Wildlife and try to unlock the Flight Domain.

Lets roll.

Edit: Flight Domain = 79 + 10 (Soul) = 80

Observe = 13 + 10 (Cognition) = 23

Edit edit: Forgot that you're also training Quantum Mechanics.

Let me roll that.

63 + 10 (Soul) = 73.

What about the Quantum Physics roll, though?
