When one wakes from realm of dreamers and sleep, it should be to the light of a new day filled with promise. One should wake up in their own home, a peaceful and comforting place were one felt safe. This is how it should be, but what should happen isn't what always happen. Because they did, then you would not awaken to the sounds of screams and roars of beasts. Your eyes widen with fear as you know those roars, for they filled the nightmares of even the most hardened of warriors and brought dread to hearts of men. You leap out of bed and grab your sword from its resting place, but the weight of sharp steel does not make the fear vanish. You race out the door of your house and see a horrible sight.

Your village is burning, and They are here.

They were darkness incarnate, They were demons and monsters born from the collective evil of the world. They, were the Umbra Malem. You watch as the tall human like creatures destroy your village and kill your neighbors, as the guards were struck down by these monsters of solid darkness, ripped and torn apart to bloody ribbons by their talons, four on each hand. Their four soulless eyes looking at the people they slaughtered with no emotion other than hatred and loathing. You look on in terror and like a coward you run, dropping your sword. As it fell, a pack of four of the monsters see you flee and give chase. You run with all your might even as your muscles burn and yell in protest, ignoring those around you who beg and pled for help. You were too scared, too terrified to do anything other than run, and prayed to the gods that they would not catch you.

But it would seem that the gods wished to punish you for your cowardice as you tripped on a rock and fell to the ground. You try to get up and run again, but a brief shot of pain goes up your spine before all feeling beneath your waist. You scream as a dark hand grabs you by the neck and brings up to eye level with one of the beasts that was chasing you. Your terrified eyes took in the demon's form: tall with long arms and legs, the legs bending like a goat's hind legs do, four pale white eyes that burned with a hellish light full of hate and rage, two curled ram horns on the sides of its head, and a pair of spikes that shot of its back. You only barely notice the long reptilian tail that swayed behind it before you saw it bring its other clawed hand back, ready to strike.

You screamed to the heavens for salvation, and then knew no more...


You wake up suddenly and shot up to a sitting position in your bed. You blink your eyes as you try to process the dream you just had, for you knew that the person in the dream was not you. You were no village guard, or even a villager at all! No, you were....

Who were you again?

Oooh, that's right. How silly of you, forgetting your own name like that! You got out of bed and walk up to the Mirror in your room, a gift from your grandfather. He did like to give some interesting gifts from his adventurer days. In the mirror you see yourself, a young adult (though people still said you were a teenager) with nice straight brown hair (a trait you only share with a total of seven other people in your town) and eyes the color...

The Destined Day, Part 1.

While you would love to run off to hang out your friends, you know that you can't do so on an empty stomach, plus spending time with your family was always nice. You move down the stairs and towards the kitchen, smelling freshly baked bread, cooked bacon, and eggs. Oddly enough you also smell something else, you don't quite know what it is though. You smile as you see your mom cooking breakfast and dad reading an book. You almost thought it was one of grandpa's old spell books, but you remember that magic was mom's thing. "Well look who's up, and just in time for breakfast." Said dad as he glanced up from his book. "Good morning Adam, how did you sleep?" He asked.

"Good morning, and I slept good. Had a weird dream though, I think I was guard or something? I don't remember it very well." You say, and you honestly couldn't recall, the dream was already fading from your memory. "Good morning mom, is Al up yet?" You asked, Al being short for your older brother Alphonse, he was usually up earlier than you were.

"Turn around and see." Said a voice behind you, causing you to turn and see Alphonse smiling at you. Your brother was taller than most people, standing six feet and nine inches. "How's my little brother doing?" He said as he ruffled your hair. You don't bother stopping him because as soon as he pulls away his hand, your hand goes back to normal with a snap of your mom's fingers. You give mom a quick thanks before grabbing a seat, seeing that the food was done. Mom passes out the plates and now you recognize the unknown smell, it was potato soup. Well now this was something special, mom's potato soup was best in the kingdom, you would say all of Cael but you didn't know a lot about the lands beyond Sanctum.

Of course, this also meant today was something special, but you couldn't place why. So you decided to ask. "Is something big happening today mom? You only bring out your amazing soup on special days." You asked and Alphonise and dad smile. Mom looks at you with a smile on her face as well before speaking. "Well Adam, today's the day your brother is officially becoming a Paladin like your father! Isn't that exciting?" Your mom asks you, and your reply was a gasp of amazement. Your brother was becoming a Paladin? That was great, and you said as much. Becoming a Paladin was a high honor in Sanctum, and came with a ton of perks. Your family was actually known for having Paladins as far back as your great great great grandfather, leading to your family having quite the reputation. The fact your brother was now carrying on the family legacy was great.

You ate breakfast quickly, except for the soup, it was celebration soup after all, before going out after telling your family you were going off to hang out with your friends. You walk through town at your own pace, taking all of it in as you made your way to where you and your friends often met up. Your home was in the town of Light's Rest, a farming town in the great kingdom of Sanctum, one of many sure but it was special to you. You see your friends all gathered by the old walls that protect the town and run up to them.

"Hey Adam, you look pretty happy, something special happen today already?" Asked Thomas, a boy with red hair and orange eyes. He was one of your oldest friends, and the only person your age you knew could punch out a bear. "Yeah, Al is being made an official Paladin today!" You told your friends, who were all as amazed as you were. "Wow, really? Congratulations, I am sure your parents are both proud." Said Alexandra, a girl with wavy black hair and green eyes, she was probably the nicest person you've ever meet. She was also the daughter of the local healer and loved animals. You recall how scary she got after seeing Thomas punch out that bear, you never saw him so intimidated before. You also see her ever faithful dog Fang at her side. You were pretty aware said dog was actually a wolf, as was the rest of the town, but you weren't going to argue with the girl with said wolf.

"I guess that explains why my parents and my sisters were baking so much food, a new Paladin being officially brought into the order is clear cause for celebration." Said William, another one of your friends and the son of the local bakers, also your mom's magic apprentice. He had brown hair like you and purple eyes behind a pair of round glasses. "In fact, I'm surprised none of us heard of it happening sooner." He said, which now that thought about it, yeah that was weird. Paladins were big deals and a new one being introduced should have been the talk of the town, so why only now did you find out? It was your own brother being made into a Paladin after all, you should have been one of the first to know.

"Perhaps they wanted to be a surprise?" Suggested Samuel, the son of one the town guard and your rival, the two of you always tried to best each other in a lot of competitions between yourselves. He was the only person in town your age with white hair, something he said he got from his mother's side of the family, and yellow eyes. No one in town knew why he had yellow eyes, same for why Thomas had orange eyes. Everyone thought the reason for you and Will' s eyes being the way they were was due to magic, which made sense to you.

"I guess that would make sense, but for us not to hear even the slightest gossip? That just seems strange doesn't it?" This was from Celica, your other oldest friend and Thomas's sister. She had Cyan eyes and red hair like her brother. She was also way calmer than her brother and was very quiet at times, so much so that she occasionally faded into the background, "Would make an excellent Rouge" your mom had said. Something you think she took to heart if what Thomas told you was true.

"Yeah but it's too late to complain now, and honestly I find this to be too exciting to be mad." Said the last of your myriad of many friends, Alice. She had blue eyes and blonde hair the stopped at her shoulders. She was the most recent addition to your little group when befriended her a year ago. You still have no idea as to why you didn't do so sooner, as she was fun to hang out with and joined in your spars with Thomas and Sam, and even kicked your butts from time to time. There was also something about her that made you feel funny, but you don't know what or why.

"So besides attending Alphonse' s celebration on joining the Paladins, what shall we do today oh fearless leader?" Asked Thomas.

"How about a spar? Thomas, Sam, Alice, and I can have a little scrap and Alexandra, Celica, and Will can watch us kick each other's butt. That sound good to you guys?" You look towards your friends for a response. Thomas grins and cracks his knuckles, "Bring it on!" He says while Sam looks just as eager. Alice shrugs and says "Why not, I could go for the exercise." Alexandra just shakes her in exasperation while Celica says her brother Will beat all of you up. Will gives you a flat that conveys that he expected you to suggest that. Course of action set, the seven of you plus one wolf head over to what you had called the sparring ground, a empty space that no one ever seemed to use for some odd reason. You weren't going to look a gift horse in the mouth though, so you never questioned it.

You, Thomas, Alice, and Sam entered the sparring "ring" while Alexandra, Will, Celica, and Fang sat in the sidelines. You circle each other, waiting for one of you to make the first move. You were more focused on Sam as he seemed to target you for his first strike. You focused on him so much you almost missed the kick aimed at your head!

DODGE! Adam: 1d20=18 vs Alice: 1d20=20. Hit! -2 Hp.

"Tom, would you kindly get off of me?" You asked Thomas and he got of you, letting you stand up so you could fight your respective advisories. "Well, I didn't expect that. But even with such a set back-" "Hey!" "-I will win this fight!" I said ignoring Thomas's yell of irritation and went on the offensive. It would seem Alice of the same mind and launched an attack of her own!

You attack landed first and with great force, sending her spinning as momentum was reversed. She seemed surprised by the power behind your attack and was stunned. You decide to press the advantage!

As Celica dragged off her brother and told him he'd win next time, you squared off with your rival. The both of you had taken some good hits from your opponents, but now the two of you got ready to go all out! You charged each other, fists ready to strike!

The force of blows was so great you both went flying away from each because of the impact. You blackout for about a half a minute before snapping back awake as you felt a healing potion take effect. You blink some spots out of your vision and shake the rest out before looking towards your friends. You saw a massive bruise on Sam's face fade away as his own healing potion fixed him up. Thomas was moaning over missing such an epic pair of punches, Celica and Alexandra looked at you and Sam with some concern, while Alice slapped the back of your head. "Ow! What was that for?" You ask while rubbing the back of your head as the potion healed your new injury. "That was for holding back against me you dumb fool." Was all Alice said before turning around and huffing. You were just confused, did she think you were holding back on her on purpose? You had no idea you had that kind of strength. If you did...actually you probably would hold back. You stand up and apologize for the perceived slight, while explaining you had no idea you were that strong. Alice sighs and accepts the apology while saying sorry for smacking the back of your head.

It was noon when the ceremony/celebration began. You were with your family as guests of honor since your family had deep ties to the Order of The Radiant Sword. You sat all dressed up in some fancy clothes mom had gotten for such formal occasions. You never really got a chance to wear it since such events were rare. You saw your friends amongst the crowd when suddenly your dad walk on to miniature stage that was set up a few hours earlier. He was glad in the golden armor of a Paladin with a deep azure cape on his shoulder that glimmers in the light of the Sun at its Zenith. He began his speech. "Friends, Family, Ladies and Gentlemen of Light's Rest. We are all gathered here to welcome a new soul to the station of Paladin." He started, "We are gathered to bare witness to a young man pledge himself in the service of the Gods and to the Heavens Eternal, for him to give of himself in order to be the shield that protects the innocent and the sword by which evil is struck down, to be a light that shall stand against the darkness of this world. Let us now welcome the one who would be all of these things, my eldest son, Alphonse Hoenheim Black!"

The crowd began to applaud as Al stepped up next to dad on stage wearing golden armor but lacking a cape. "Kneel." Dad said as he picked up a silvery blade with winged crossguard. Al kneeled and bowed his head. "Do you, Alponse Hoenheim Black, swear to before the people of Light's Rest and to the Gods and to Heavens Eternal, to be a warrior of righteousness. To uphold the virtues of our Order, to abide by the laws of our kingdom as laid out by the Gods above at its founding?" Dad said.

"I do swear." Said Al and you saw his armor and the sword start to glow, and everything seemed to be a little brighter.

"Do you swear to be an exemplar of all that is good and to be the bane to all that is evil. Do accept the duty and responsibility that comes with becoming a Paladin, and all the rights and privileges that come with? Do you accept the burdens and blessings that shall be placed upon you?" Dad asked, even though he knew the answer.

"I do swear and accept." Al said and a white cape materialized as dad tapped his shoulders with the flat of the blade.

"Then by the power given to me by my Order and by the Gods and by Heavens Eternal, I name you Ser Alphonse Hoenheim Black, a Paladin of The Order of The Radiant Sword. Rise, and take your sword." Al rose and took the sword as dad gave it to him, and as my brother raised his sword to the sun, the crowd's applause was like thunder.

After the ceremony you meet up with your dad and Al, your mom giving your brother a hug. "I am so, so proud of you Alphonse." Mom said as he hugs her back. Your friends come up soon and they all congratulate your Al. "So, how's it feel?" You ask. "Honestly, incredible. It's like I've become something greater than I had thought possible." Al said.

You all start to move to join the celebration when suddenly dark oily clouds cover the sky and blocked the sun. The clouds open up to show a red sky and a black moon, and people started to scream as creatures began to suddenly just appear in the town. They were tall and had long arms and legs, they were pitch black, possessed four burning white eyes filled with pure hatred, a reptilian tail and two spike coming from their backs, with curled ram horns on their head. A feeling of dread forming in the pit of your stomach, you realized that these where same monsters from your dream, no, your nightmare.

The guards and dad moved to fight these monsters immediately, Al began to guide people to the safe house meant for invasions from armies from other kingdoms. In the chaos your separated from your mom and friends. You stumble through the crowd, trying your best not to be trampled. A family had grabs you and pulls you out of the panicking crowd. You turn to see your friends and Fang. "Guys! We gotta get out of here!" You said quickly as you saw the guards were being pushed back and Al having to join the fighting to keep the monsters away from the crowd. It seemed like only Dad and Al were the only ones actually hurting these things. You hear Fang growl and turn to see one of the monsters appear next to your group.

Fang jumped at the monster with fangs bared and ready to tear into it, only for it to swipe its hand and throw Fang back to the ground with four claw wounds on his chest. Alexandra screamed "No!" and went to Fang' s side, trying to stop the bleeding. Tom runs up to guard her as do the rest of you.

'This is how I die.' You thought, 'At the claws of a demon made out pure evil and malice, but...' You narrow your eye and glare defiantly towards the Umbra Malem. "...I WON'T GO DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT!" You yelled as you felt something inside you click.

And then your mind, body, and soul were engulfed in Crimson Light.
