Killing with Silence (L5R/Exalted)

If I recall, there are ways to make the Hunt more metaphorical; such that the seduction and the the intimacy that comes with it count as completing a Hunt. There are ways for us to rule the known world from behind a silk curtain with the power a Geisha holds, and that's normally. With the backing of the Moon Lord? We can be so much more.

As of Fangs at the Gate, which is the Lunar sourcebook I'd be referencing (for themes if not mechanics) there are a multitude of other ways to claim someone's shape, yes. Examples include:
  • A voluntary act of physical intimacy with someone who has major feelings of love and/or lust towards their current shape.
  • Being present in the target's own residence at the same time, leaving some sign of your presence to be discovered, and then escaping without being caught
  • Sanctifying an oath which is then broken, with the Lunar gaining both the oathbreaker's shape and an awareness of their location
  • Convincing a target to wager their face on a game of chance which the Lunar then wins (possibly by cheating)

And so on and so on.

this makes me want to pull a facestealer Koh from ATLA. sadly we will have to work harder for our own new faces

[X] The Ronin

I don't trust myself or my fellow players to do social very well so Geisha is out. I am interested in the perspective of a fresh ronin, somebody who is suddenly thrust into a very different position. I think the dissonance between how it was and how it is now should be interesting.

Just going to lay another argument for Speaker out there.

The Speaker is a weird outsider who talks to the dead and unseen things. She listens to nature. And is likely going to rise up against a homogenising, authorititarian culture that harvests the fat of the land for an elite.

Basically I'm saying that our Speaker...

... should be willing to hit any katana-wielding megalomaniacs over the head with a chair.

Speaking of the Speaker, I doodled a thing. No idea if it'll fit given we have nothing yet, but still. (given the aerith post, a bubbly and cute version could be fun too)

You know, White Veil Style, if it existed, would most likely find itself in the hands of the geisha. A perfect fit, one might say.

Not that such a style exists.

[X] The Speaker

As a person who is very much interested in things like Yokai and general ghost stories I have to go with this. Plus I sort of want to terrify some bastards for being utter disrespectful assholes.

So I don't know anything about L5R but I know a lot about Yokai and decided to make a list of a couple I really hope make an appearance if The Speaker wins.

  • The Jubokko: Also known as the vampire tree, basically a tree that has grown in soil so saturated in human blood that it developed a taste only for that and turned into a yokai. So they wait for humans to approach, then impale them on their branches to drain dry and then let birds or other animals/insects eat the corpse before letting the bones fall to the ground.
  • The Gashadokuro: What I like to call The Boss Skeleton, it is a literal giant skeleton formed from the collective malice of up to 100 humans who weren't buried with the proper rites and simply rotted away as their resentment turns to a hatred of humans. They basically go around eating people to sate this malice and most of the time you'd just have to avoid it and wait until the energy (aka Malice) animating it runs out.
  • The Mekurabe: Which apparently translates into starring context, but this thing is a skull shaped mound of skulls and severed heads. It goes away if you beat it in a starring contest and I don't know what happens if you lose, but I'd imagine your head gets added to the mound.

I'm interested in knowing why so many of the Youkai on that website are literally just weird looking monks. 'Here's a big bald monk that bothers you in the ocean', 'this one's a monk with a really long neck', 'this one's a big rich monk with a single eye', 'this one used to be a monk but he wasn't too good at it, so now he's a bird person'.

Really, if we wanted to be a youkai, Monk would have been it. 'Has a weird gimmick', check. 'Is a monk', check. Nobody would have questioned it. :V
