Look, on one hand, yes, bass players deserve more recognition. On the other, if you are an explicitly talentless protagonist, I'd leave the rhythm section to someone else.

I don't think a talentless person should be doing the vocals or main melody either. Those are the parts people tend to notice first and foremost.
