If shinigami powers are inherited, then that would make ichigo legally a shinigami by birth. Ishin, his father and a former captain, could stop the execution merely by proving he is ichigos father.
Its illegal to share powers with a mere mortal. Technically ichigo isn't a mere mortal, but a shinigami and secretly part quincy.

Although proving his heritage could
The metaphysics of what makes you a shinigami never made a lot of sense (because of course they didn't, none of the metaphysics of the world ever made sense, thanks a ton Kubo).

In canon they're apparently both a thing that can be transferred instantaneously (Rukia and Ichigo), but also something you can be trained in (at the shinigami academy, where mortal souls get taught how to be soul reapers), which makes it seem like there is a specific training regimen that builds up "shinigami-ness" like some kind of static electricity that can then be sent to someone else as a discrete package labeled "being a soul reaper".

Which seems... pretty dumb, frankly.

Don't forget you can also inherit them through bloodlines.

LISTEN, I'm trying to be at least SLIGHTLY charitable to Kubo's worldbuilding - why you gotta drag him like that? :p

E: under the static electricity hypothesis, the spark just passes from parent to child. Presumably there's some relation between how much of this stuff you need to cross the shinigami threshold and how large you are, so empowering gametes doesn't noticeably reduce the parents' power.

Actually, it makes sense, if you consider shinigami to be a symbiotic organism - a combination of a pure soul and a bonded asauchi. It can be transferred instantly, if the asauchi can be bonded to someone else. It can be trained up, after trainees are given asauchis. It can even be inherited (or, rather, I'd like to note, spiritual power can get inherited, and shinigami probably refers both to a social status and a state of being) if the asauchi can somehow also breed with the user and pass an offspring simbiont onto the offspring host.

I'd probably think of it as being a position that comes with a specific set of powers. Remember that only Soul Society has Asauchi, which is a base component of making a Shinigami's Zanpakto. Ichigo started with a copy of Rukia's Zanpakto and then got his own eventually.
It's like being a fighter pilot for the only nation with an air force. By definition, if someone not of your nation is a pilot, then it means somebody stole or misplaced one of your planes and should be charged accordingly.

There are additional complications from the fact that Asauchi are blank Hollows which relates to how other people can cheat this restriction, but since that's not widely known, it holds up as a logical general rule. Shinigami Powers = Member of the Gotei 13, and any deviation from that rule must logically be from somebody doing something wrong.

[X] Phone Ichigo to get him to come to the Hollows' location in his human body, Rukia will come with you to assist against the Hollows.

I've always been fond of the idea of Karin being a shinigami.

I'm mostly figuring Ichigo's physical body being in the area of the fight means it's more likely that he becomes collateral damage.

Eh, Ichigo will get enough shounen training and Powerpoint Ups that I don't see the need to intervene in his development.

I can see Karin argue against the method Ichigo uses to awaken his own shinigami powers. Isshin would as well if he's getting more involved. It would be pretty damn funny if Isshin and Karin went to rescue Rukia without Ichigo. Ichigo will likely show up in SS at a crucial moment anyway.

"Are you sure you remembered everything, Ichigo?" Isshin asked.
"I turned off the oven, locked the doors and the garage"
"And..?"
"... No, I think that's it"
"What about Yuzu?"
"..."
"And what do you think you should do?"
"... I'll be right back!"
"Idiot. The apple does not fall that far from the tree after all, eh?" Karin said.

Yuzu: *shows up in Shinigami robes*
Karin: .... Yuzu when did you?
Yuzu: No.Damn.Idea. But I can heal people - also I brought lunch! ... Where's Ichigo?
Isshin: .... he just left to check on you.
Karin: *facepalm*

>Assuming Yuzu would ever curse.

10/10 Totally An Impostor.

On the topic of soul reaper gaining how does reincarnation thing work are soul reapers that die souls destined to be soul reapers or I'm remembering this wrong aren't I.

And despite it being nearly 1am I'm feeling productive and I dropped a cigarette earlier so I need to stay up for a few hours and make sure I'm not going to burn to death in my sleep!

So with that said, Vote Called. Looks like you're phoning Ichigo and teaming up with Rukia~

So, some questions for people while you're checking the thread: what happens between here and Masaki's memorial day is...nebulous, is there anything that people are super-interested in seeing? I do have some plans, but they're not set in stone.

- Questioning Ichigo about why he doesn't know his sword's name
- Questioning HatnClogs about *why* calling our sword's name is dangerous
- Team training with Ichigo and Rukia
- How is Rukia's recovery, if any?

Most of these could probably be strung together pretty easily.

Those would be actions you'd have to vote on in-quest or things that are already going to happen as a minor thing, mostly, although I'll note you've already asked about why releasing Shikai is dangerous, and he just told you that Soul Society doesn't approve of shinigami existing outside its authority, and Shikai makes them much more likely to notice. I was going to have it appear in a flashback at some point but there's no harm in telling you now. I was asking more 'events'. Team training is something that'll come up at some point.

I'd like to see the Bombing Hollow, and the guy who gets Damned to Hell. Mostly because the first one is an interesting character interaction, and the second is the only mention of Hell in Bleach.

There is always the Ishida v Ichigo's... contest. I can think of more descriptive words for their competition but I'll be polite about it. If it happens it will be impossible for Karin to miss.

Edit: Never mind, that happens later doesn't. Pardon, brain fart.

Girl Power!

WHY IS THERE NO HORROR RATING

Ok, but real talk for a minute: When I started reading Bleach, when I was in middle school, I remember rolling my eyes at Isshin's antics and generally getting annoyed by them fairly quickly. Now, though, coming back to it I've actually found it super endearing. Seriously, he's just got so much goofiness and affection for his kids, it's adorable. ISSHIN = BEST DAD

Some one mentioned that all three kids are Hollow-Shinigami-Quincy hybrids and that got me thinking. Both Ichigo and now Karin are going the Shinigami route to start but what if Yuzu took a different starting class? Yuzu being a Hollow powered combat berserker sounds awesome and hilarious to me.

Do all three have hollows, though? I thought only Ichigo did? I mean, Isshin's powers were sealed to keep White sealed, and they started recovering the moment Ichigo's inner hollow was first let loose - if all three inherited bits of White, rather than the whole of the thing ending up as Ichigo's zanpakuto, then wouldn't Isshin's powers remain sealed since they'd still be busy locking up Yuzu and Karin's inner hollows?

Are you suggesting we only saw 1/3rd of Isshins true power?
