Jonathan Fitzgerald: Paranormal & Private Investigator - Anomalies & Adversities (a quest of playing the monster)

You know if you think about it, being an alternate from Mandela catalog probably would have been the best way to go. Cuz like we're living in a world that's mostly filled with horror characters and horror games along with analog stuff. So unless the whole "most of the world is Christian" thing from Mandela catalog is here, we'd basically be damn near unstoppable considering I don't think most of the humans in this world would be even close to being a Christian of true faith. Probably the only problem would be that whole weakness to all faith's thing.

Considering that the mechanics of true faith work in the quest, it would be strange to give up this advantage.
I get what you're saying (Though I can't seem to find any major mention of mechanics around True Faith outside the Mandela stuff.) but I'd prefer if you could go for a religion that's not just the usual christianity. Also it's Christians and the otherr Abrahamics that are most vunerable to Alternates so True Faith would be pretty pointless with them mechanically.

The reasoning behind me writing in Agnostic is that, beyond me being one myself, that we A) Don't actually alienate any Divinities we may encounter, and B) Can switch relatively consequence free, again without alienating a divine.

This was also my favorite option.

I don't know much about the specifics of religions other than Christianity, so I took it.

If the mechanics of true faith are taken from VtM, then absolute conviction is necessary for it to work, so I doubt that agnosticism will work.

Voting will close at 3:00 P.M. CDT, 8/26.

I know this is not technically formatted as a question, but due to this potentially being important for the vote, I feel the need to clarify:
  1. True Faith is pulled almost directly from oWoD(Old World of Darkness), specifically VtM, with some minimal modification, mainly with how it interacts with the Piety stat and Theology skill. (We'll get to those in the next part of character creation)
  2. Agnosticism is a valid write-in.
  3. However, it is also true that an agnostic character can never gain access to True Faith.

+-Two separate health pools, body and remnant. Body is extremely resilient against most physical attacks, but can be damaged by either fire, acid, or just strong enough other attacks. Remnant is immune to all physical damage except for fire/heat damage, which it can still negate or resist with willpower checks. If remnant runs out, game over. If body is depleted, then your capabilities are sharply diminished until you can possesss a new body.
Are we made with the remnant from our dead human body or is it a bunch a dead kids like the others.

At least in my head canon, (and by extension this quest's canon) when you mix a bunch of different dead people's remnants together you essentially get the equivalent of a feral animal. So, the former.

Also, something I should have mentioned... the current most popular appearance vote is perfectly valid, but not really what I had in mind, and if it wins, certain features (like hair color, if you have (fake) hair, eye color, etc.) will be decided by dice rolls, if they become relevant.

Can I post an image for appearance instead of having to describe it

I suddenly realized that the protagonist reminds me of one of Promethean from cofd. Very similar atmosphere and abilities.

By the way what can we do with remnant? Can we mine it when depleted or does it produce itself?

[X]Appearance: You'd think he was a regularish man at first. But his features were just that bit tooangular, too perfect. Hard lines, hard edges, barely seeming to smooth where they curved.

That isn't entirely unintentional... in that the inclusion of both the nWoD and oWoD came courtesy of a sort off 'lightbulb moment' where I had a similar revelation, not Promethean but a different game line, and that lead me to realize that it makes a very good baseline to build out a horror crossover like this.

As for your question, that depends on what you mean. Do you mean as in the mechanical Remnant 'hp' value? Your personal Remnant? In that case, should it take damage, it will (very slowly, slower than a baseline human's HP) naturally regenerate by itself, 'mining' it really isn't a option that's available, and wouldn't be helpful to you anyway. In any other case, you can get it, but your character has no clue how to go about doing that.

These good. Or should I look for something else.

The painfully anime proportions mean that I'll accept these pictures... with the caveat that that the eyes are actually too artificial looking. I'll still accept these pictures, with the caveat being the eyes will only look that way underneath a set of false contacts or something similar.

The only reason I picked that was because 1. What would be more cursed to look at then anime characters in real life. And 2. My brain basically scrolled through all the different anime characters I knew at the top of my head because of thought number one, and that was the one that got picked out.

This an alright appearance. Ignore the arms coloring couldn't find one that had a normal pigment.

My concept of it is, like, the most boring white man you can think of. Brown hair, blue eyes, kinda lanky. Except when you get that bit closer, you can make out the unnatural perfection in his features. Every angle and edge sharp enough to feel theey should draw blood.

Thank you for this elaboration, as provided nothing changes over the next few days, it looks like your vote will win.

It has come to my attention that the tally system has broken, for whatever reason, and isn't counting votes for religion. For now, this isn't a problem, and just have to hand count them. But for the future, can anyone inform me what went wrong and why? If so, thank you.
It seems to be working for what I can tell?

EDIT : Also, please, can we go with something more interesting than Christianity? Monotheism is a bore even without counting the continous harm it's done as an institution over the entirety of it's existance.

Dog you got to remember we need to have true faith if we want to survive things like alternates.
I'd be perfectly willing to switch to Shinto or Hinduism! Heck, I'd take Islam or Judaism even if I'd prefer the others! But literally everything is Christian this or that and I'm annoyed by it, and the True Faith argument loses out a bit because the Abrahamics are specifically the True Faiths Alternates resist.
