Yes, dear sir, you will become the hunter of the hunters, the finder of the Hidden Wizards! Of course, with your vast resources as an accountant, you will clearly be able to fight them from your home in a small suburban community.
Oh, who're you kidding? What're you going to do about magic? It's magic! I mean, certainly, they aren't infallible, you are still alive, but how on earth do you hope to reveal them? I mean, after that fateful day...
This Exciting, Thrilling, and Dangerous Story is not for the faint of heart! It is the bone-chilling tale of...How The Accountant Found Out About The Hidden Wizards (Also known as the Wizard Federation)!
It had been a normal day at work for you. You had woken up in the morning, brushed your teeth, showered, buttoned up your shirt, made some toast, and drove to work, just like you do every morning. Of course, before you did that, you had to take care of your Responsibility...
[] The Pet (You found this furry beast on the sidewalk quite a few years ago. It followed you home, and you've been feeding it and petting it ever since. Isn't that right, Mr. Fluffers? Now that you think about it, maybe it's got something to do with this Wizard thing?)
[] The Plant (A sprawling monstrosity that just appeared, growing all over your guest bedroom. Every attempt to remove it has ended in some form of misfortune. At this point, you've surrendered the room to it and just prune off anything that comes past that. It seems to have a sort of truce with you, in regards to that. Wait, does this have something to do with that magic thing?)
[] The Child (An artifact from your previous marriage, which ended with a divorce. She's a teenager at this point, here to spend her time after her mother mysteriously vanished. Wait, could that have anything to do with the wizards?)
[] Starting up the Car. (No Responsibility)
(So, to explain a little bit more about what a Responsibility is, it's a companion, but a dependent one. You'll have to spend some of your income and time to keep them happy, but in exchange, you could get a little more insight into the wizard or gain a lifelong friend/companion/good father-daughter relationship. There will be penalties to not working with them when you have them, so you do have the opportunity to forgo your Responsibilities in exchange for keeping your time and money.)
After you took care of that, you drove off to work, humming a chipper tune. You work with the only major accounting firm in the area, and as such, aren't exactly squeezed for cash. It's always a pleasure working for Jones and Hartman's local branch. (You have 10 Income to spend, gained every week. Your mortgage, healthcare, utilities, and other various expenses are automatically deducted from this by your mad accounting skills. So, this is your free income.)
Now, to the exciting and thrilling danger! You had been spending your morning, afternoon, and evening filling out the paperwork that had been sent to you, checking over ledgers and such for inaccuracies. You don't really know who any of these people are, as one of the guarantees of Jones and Hartman's is that your ledger will be checked by someone you've never met, as a way to preserve the anonymity of their clients. Their prices are surprisingly affordable, for a company that ships around so many ledgers, so most people around here use them. Unfortunately, that means that you've got quite the workload, and so you're working overtime.
You get your first glance of mystery when you took a glance at the last ledger that you had to complete and had a double-take moment. It was no ledger at all, but an arcane tome of mystery! It looked it had just hopped from a fantasy novel, blue, wrinkled cover, fancy Latin words written in cursive! Then, in a fit of curiosity, you open it and hear the unmistakable sound of a computer booting up.
What a disappointment. Whimsy and wonder fly out of your head when you see the interior of this computer, though, as it seems to be nothing like the other computers around the office. It is not small or compact, but it is portable, and the inside seems quite user-friendly, too! However, as soon as you got to reading some of the Read Me files, it became apparent the sinister purpose hiding behind this sleek and modern facade!
These Wizards, they control the world as we know it from the shadows, for some mysterious purpose! And yet, they are somehow involved in the numbers that you've been crunching and all of your work here...(Gain Knowledge of the Wizard Federation. Gain Knowledge that Jones and Hartman are somehow involved.)
Of course, as you're about to open up another file labeled "Bakersfield Protection Team", which, given that your suburb is in Bakersfield, might be important, you hear a sound, as if a seam had just ripped open! Thinking wisely, you shut down the computer quickly, and throw it aside, before diving under your table. This was the correct choice, as just as the thunder faded, the sound of thundering boots fills the room. Someone walks by your desk, picks up something and says "Found it!" Sounds like some kind of teenager. There is a collective sigh of relief from amongst the other unknown people. A different, slightly older remarks. "Goddamnit, Tom, this is all your fault! You're the Initiate, you need to keep track of your own goddamn TomeBook, not just drop it and accidentally ship it off to Nowhere, America, making the rest of us risk our education to get it back!" Tom, apparently the feet by your desk, turns around and starts to shout at the other guy. "Hey, this place ain't nowhere! It's practically wizard central for this whole county! There are at least five different magical families around here, I should know, I grew up here!" The other teenager sighs. "Whatever. Let's get back to the Academy before anyone notices that we left."As the sound of boots fades, a zipping sound can be heard.
As you get up from beneath your desk, you gain an inner resolve. You will find out the mystery of these wizarding folk, and find out whatever plot that they might have! You'll do it, or your name isn't
[] Write-In Name!
Now, it's a week later, and you're no closer than when you started, mostly because work has been absolutely killer. You're just gonna take a moment to relax. I mean, who wouldn't be tired after
[] Doing your daily jog? (Gain Fit Perk, New Obligation of running every day.)
[] Going to the local pound to volunteer? (Gain Volunteer Perk, New Obligation of going to the Pound once per week.)
[] Going to an office party? (Gain Job Devotee Perk. Obligation of going to office parties whenever they occur.)
[] A long day of work? (No new perks, no new obligations.)
(Perks are things that boost you in one area, but might lower your stats in another. This will probably be the only blind pick for regular perks in the game, but there's a reason. Obligations, on the other hand, are things that you devote your time towards. They grant benefits/perks the more you do them, but if you let things go for too long, you'll just fall out of the habit of doing it, and lose some of the benefits.)
