Ruby Facet-53LG Cut-2XG opened her eyes to a black void filled with the light of hundreds of thousands of tiny white stars.
Ruby was scared. She didn't know where she was, and she didn't know where Ruby, Ruby, Ruby or Ruby were. She wanted to find where the others were. She had to find where the others were. If she couldn't find them, then she would never be able to find out where the rebels had gone and take back their ship from them.
Ruby -- Ruby couldn't remember much about the last time that she had seen them.
Ruby could remember Ruby head out to talk to Jasper about -- something -- and then her enraged shout. She remembered that she had started to turn when she had heard Ruby shout at them and then remembered how Ruby had taken her hand and pulled her outside. Se remembered the moment she had to look at the rebels, remembered how she had to started to realize that the had tricked them, before Ruby had ordered them to combine.
Ruby could remember the anger that Ruby had felt -- the hurt that Ruby had felt -- and the need to make sure that something like that never happened again. She remembered them moving toward the rebels, remembered hearing a shout from the brown-haired rebel -- and remembered being pulled toward the doorway that the rebel had opened by some unseen force.
Ruby could remember that they had been too large to fit through the doorway. She remembered how furious they had been when they had realized what the rebel had attempted to do them, remembered turning to him and threatening him even as they started to pull themselves forward, remembered something large and orange to slam into their middle with enough force to force them to separate.
Ruby didn't remember a lot of what had happened after that, but she could remember a shout. She couldn't remember if the shout had been directed at her or not, but she liked to believe that it had been. She liked to believe it because, even if she had failed to respond in time, there was a chance that the other members of her platoon were together. She liked to believe that. She had to believe that.
Ruby had never been alone before. She didn't think that she liked being alone. She didn't have Ruby there that would tell her what she needed to do, or Ruby there to remind her about what she would be doing, or Ruby to help her when she couldn't what she was supposed to be doing by herself. She didn't know what she was supposed to do without them. She didn't know what she could do without them.
Ruby had never learned how to function on her own.
'I -- I can't do anything. Not by myself.' Ruby thought and something wet emerged from the corner of her eyes. She didn't know what the wet something was supposed to be and it frightened her. She rubbed the wet something away, wanting to be rid of it, but more wet somethings emerged to take the original wet something's place. She covered her face with her hands. 'I can't -- I can't even get rid of the wet something!'
Ruby could -- Ruby could see something in front of her. A planet -- like the blue planet that the rebels lived on but a different color. Was it supposed to be a different color? She didn't know if it was supposed to be a different color.
Ruby fell.
Ruby was surrounded by a hard roughness, but the rock melted around her as she came back into awareness. She lifted her head and the rock poured off her as she took shape and solidified.
Ruby opened her eyes.
[X] The mountain stood taller than the tallest of spires that she had seen. The shape of the mountain was distinctly asymmetrical, its flanks shallower and extending out further from the summit in the northwestern direction than they did to the southeast.
[] The circular depression opened up to a wide expanse of pale pinkish-white sand that stretched as far as the eye could see. Far in the distance, pale and faded against the horizon, were mountains.
[] Strewn across the ground were rocks and boulders; some were leaning up against the wall of her crater, others stuck in the walls of her crater, some were buried in the dirt and one was lying on the ground and looked like it had been tilted around until it was sitting on its back. The earth opened to pale reddish-pink sky over her. In the distance were mountains.

- Offense and Defense: As leader of the Unnamed Empire, Ruby Facet-5L3G Cut-2XG is responsible to protect and defend it from hostile forces that would threaten to destroy it. Each installation will have a defense value which will be used to determine the amount that its workers will respond to the attack. Conversely, Ruby Facet-5L3G Cut-2XG can also order her forces on an offensive against other forces where their offensive value and the defender's defensive value will be used to determine the outcome of the operation.
- Shipbuilding: In order to get a hovercraft or a spaceship, Ruby Facet-5L3G Cut-2XG will have to construct it. To build a ship you need: Bulk Resources, Special Resources, a Ship Yard and a Crew.

- Budget: Inflame to takes place in a post money economy, so budget should not be thought of in dollars and cents. Rather -- Ruby Facet-5L3G Cut-2XG's budget should be thought of in the materials that she and those under her are able to collect.
- Bulk Resources: Bulk Resources are metals and other basic materials.
- Special Resources: Special Resources are exotic materials that are much much harder to find and used in the construction of Communication Hubs, Injectors, Replicator Wands, Warp Pads and other Gem Structures.

Gem Classes:
- Agate: Agates are a type of soldier caste, meant to be terrifying figures that cow the Gems under them into obedience.
- Bismuths: Bismuths are the building caste, in charge of constructing temples, spires, arenas, and other structures for the aristocratic members of Gem society on both Homeworld and Gem colonies.
- Bismuths are known to have [ Heat Resistance ] and [ Enhanced Shapeshifting ] in addition to standard Gem abilities.
- Diamonds: Diamonds are the highest caste, similar to royalty and referred to as the "matriarchs" of Gem society; they make up The Great Diamond Authority. Homeworld Gems are fanatically loyal to the diamonds, seeing as Peridot formerly adored Yellow Diamond. Gems also appear to be categorized under their respective Diamonds,
- Lapis Lazulis: Lapis Lazulis are a terraforming caste, in charge of terraforming planets.
- Lapis Lazulis are known to have [ Macro Hydrokinesis ], [ Flight ] and [ Memory Sharing ] in addition to standard Gem abilities.
- Rubies: Rubies are a soldier caste. They are as personal escorts and bodyguards for high-ranking Gems. Seeing as they are so numerous, Rubies are considered somewhat unimportant and highly expendable grunts, though they compensate by fusing together into bigger constructs of themselves. Rubies are also sent to different planets to seek out specific Gems.
- Rubies are known to have [ Pyrokinesis ] in addition to standard Gem abilities.
- Rubies can fuse with a Sapphire to form a Garnet and a Sapphire and a Pearl to form a Sardonyx.
- Pearls: Pearls are a type of servant caste. They serve as domestics and ladies-in-waiting to their owners. They are expected only to serve and be submissive and obedient. Their work consists of domestic tasks such as cleaning or holding their owners' things. Pearls are also status symbols on Homeworld reserved for higher castes. Pearls may also be earned by committing an act of heroism towards the Diamonds. Pearls also serve the function of footmen, opening doors for their masters; they are expected to consistently exhibit subservience by remaining silent unless spoken to and remaining a few paces behind their superior when walking with them. They also provide simple luxuries like singing.
- Pearls are known to have [ Pocket Dimension] in addition to standard Gem abilities.
- Pearls can fuse with a Ruby and a Sapphire to form a Sardonyx.
- Peridots: Peridots serve mainly as technicians and Kindergarteners, sometimes performing field assignments on other planets. Era 2 Peridots are given Limb Enhancers to compensate for their lack of abilities older gems have, due to the depletion of resources on Homeworld.
- Quartzes: Quartzes are a soldier caste. Made to fit the role of an elite warrior, Quartzes have incredible height, broad shoulders, and an intimidating muscular build. Quartz is the largest known Gem type with Gems including Amethysts, Carnelians, Jaspers, and Rose Quartzes.
- Quartzes are known to have [ Energy Attacks ] and [ Spin Dash ] in addition to standard Gem abilities.
- Sapphires: Sapphires are a nobility caste.
- Sapphires are known to have [ Cyrokinesis] and [ Precognition ] in addition to standard Gem abilities.

Ruby's mouth dried out quickly when she tried to taste the air: it was hot and she would come to recognize the smell of the sun on the dust and basalt. The mountain was taller than the tallest of spires that she had seen. Because the mountain was so large, it was near impossible for her to figure out its height on her own. The shape of the mountain was distinctly asymmetrical, its flanks shallower and extending out further from the summit in the northwestern direction than they did to the southeast. It looked similar to the "barn" where her platoon had first encountered the rebels, but a little more shallow and curved around on its sides.
The mountain opened up to a bright reddish-pink sky over her and opened up to a smooth plain of pale pinkish-white dust behind her. The plain did not appear to be as large as the mountain was, but it appeared to cover as much of the land as the mountain did.
Was there something black in the distance
"... What am i supposed to do now?" Ruby wondered as she looked out toward the plain. She had remembered that Ruby would have told her to look around, but it was hard to remember what she should have done after that. Ruby waited for Ruby to speak up and tell her that she had gotten it wrong before Ruby told her what the plan was only to remember that Ruby and Ruby weren't there. She felt more of the wet something prickle at the corner of her eyes -- threatening to come out -- and shook her head.

The Basics 1.2
She decided that she would climb up the mountain. It would have been easier to climb down to and then start to search the plains for something that she could use, but she determined that there was nothing down there. Or at least, if there was something down there, then it was a lot farther than she felt comfortable travelling by herself. It would take her a lot of time to climb up and properly search the mountain for something that she could use, but there were sure to be a lot of places she could search.
She followed the dried up lava flow up the mountain, her stride covering a couple feet of sun-baked basalt and dust at a time. For four miles, the dried up lava flow had given her an easy path, but then she came to an upthrust of unyielding basalt that was too hard for her to climb up. It looked like it continued to climb upwards too.
She hesitated for a long couple of moments -- wondering whether she should look for an alternate route or head back down the mountain -- before she squared her shoulders and started to look for an alternate route. She walked a mile across the escarpment before she managed to stumbled across another, bigger, dried up lava flow that led further up the mountain. She started to walk up the dried up lava flow.
In time, the mountain brought her new smells. The sun on the dust and the basalt. Metal. A hundred other smells that she had never smelled before. She hesitated again and then chose to follow the smells, because she had not smelled metal before and if there was metal here then it might be the thing that she needed to find that would help her find the others.
The smell grew stronger and stronger the further that she moved from the dried up lava flow that she had been following -- and soon enough she could see the glint of the sun reflecting off of something metallic in the distance. She couldn't make out much detail about the metallic something from this distance, but it didn't bother her all that much.
She had come up with a plan to find something that she could use to find the others, she had looked around for it and she had found it. All that she had to do now was close the distance in between her and the something metallic -- and then figure out how she could use the something metallic.
She was excited. She couldn't wait to learn what the something metallic was and what it could do, to learn how the something metallic could help her find the others and then use it to find the others.
"I don't understand. What is a Ruby doing out here?""
She landed on the outer edge of the flat plain that the metallic spire and the cluster of boulders stood on. She started to move toward the boulders but stopped. "That uniform. I haven't seen a uniform like that since...."
Something had changed since she had stepped foot on this plain. There were no noises, or anything else like that, but she couldn't help but feel like she was being watched. Not only that, she felt like it was mean and hostile.
"It doesn't matter. If she thinks that she can mess with us...!"
She hesitated.

Ruby couldn't shake the feeling of being watched and it pushed her nerves over the edge. She didn't think that she liked it here anymore. Why had she decided to travel here? Why hadn't she chosen to travel somewhere else? There were sure to be other places that could hold something that she could use to find the others, other places that didn't make her feel like she was being watched.
The upthrusts of rock that surrounded the plain might have been tight nit, but it felt as though everything was open. If she had been with the others, then she could have been sure that they could handle whatever was thrown at them. But -- while she had all of the same skills as the others -- she wasn't as experienced as they were. She couldn't make more than a fistful of flames and she couldn't summon her Gem Weapon from her gem. How was she supposed to fight something by herself? How was she supposed to protect herself?
She couldn't protect herself.
But -- But whether or not she could protect herself didn't matter. She had not seen anything that she would need to protect herself from since she had crash landed on this planet. She might have felt like she was being watched, but that didn't mean that she was. And if she allowed herself to be scared off from something that she could use to help her find the others by the feeling of being watched, then she might never be able to find the others.
She was afraid -- but she was more afraid of the possibility that she would never be able to find the others.
She stepped around the large cluster of boulders that circled the outer edge of the clearing around the metallic spire and then stopped. "This..." She whispered as she looked around at the small cluster of stone huts that had been hidden behind the boulders. "... Someone lives in this place."
"Someone does live in this place."
Ruby stiffened at the unfamiliar voice and turned around to find three unfamiliar Carnelian standing there.
The first Carnelian's skin was a pale scarlet and her hair was a dull maroon. She had plump lips, a small, upturned nose, and dark orange eyes. Her gemstone was located on her chest. She wore a black, loose, tunic that began over her neck and extended down over a dark orange skirt.
The second Carnelian's skin was a pale scarlet and her hair was a dull maroon. She had plump lips, a small, upturned nose, and permission orange eyes, and had a large bang that covered her right eye. Her gemstone was located on her right shoulder. She wore a black, loose, tunic that began over her neck and extended down over a persimmon orange skirt.
The third and final Carnelian's skin was a pale scarlet and her hair was a dull maroon. She had plump lips, a small, upturned nose, and burnt orange eye and a large bang that covered her left eye. Her gemstone was located on her left shoulder. She wore a black, loose, tunic that began over her neck and extended down over a burnt orange skirt.
"Us." The burnt orange Carnelian said with a pointed look at her. "I don't know what a Ruby is doing so far south, but this is our mountain."
Ruby frowned. "I'm sorry. I -- I didn't know."
"Pffft." The burnt orange Carnelian scoffed and then stepped toward her: Ruby stepped backward. "You'll] have to come up with a better excuse than that, Ruby."
Ruby raised her hands up in front of her. "I -- I -- I didn't know that this was your mountain! I was just -- I was just looking for something that I could use to find the others!" The burnt orange Carnelian took another step toward her and she took a step back. She tripped and fell onto her back. "I got separated from them after the rebels poofed our fusion and sent us all into space! I floated and then i saw the planet and I fell and I poofed and when I reformed I was here! I came here because I smelled metal and I thought -- I thought -- I thought that it might be something I could use to find the others!" She looked down. "I just.... I just want to find the others."
"That has to be one of the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard." The burnt orange Carnelian said. She moved her hand to her gem and pulled out a red short curved sword. Ruby covered her head with her hands. "If you want to lie --!"
"That's enough, 9XH." One of the other two Carnelian said.
"Don't tell me that you believe her story, 9XI!" 9XH raised her voice. "There is no way that she could be telling the truth!"
"If it wasn't the truth, then why would she tell us that instead of tell us something that she thought that we would believe? She didn't, because she believes what she said to be true." 9XI said.
"That doesn't mean--"
"Look at her." 9XI said, cutting 9XH off. "When was the last time that one of us saw a Ruby -- or any other Gem -- wear a uniform like the one that she is wearing? When was the last time that one of us saw a Ruby that was as vibrant as she is?"
9XH was quiet for a couple of moments. "... You really think that she's telling the truth?"
"I know how we can find out."
Ruby heard footsteps coming toward her and then heard something crunch as one of the Carnelians knelt down beside her. She waited for the Carnelian to do something and when the Carnelian did nothing, she slowly opened her eyes.
The dark orange Carnelian looked at her. "I am Carnelian Facet 1M4R Cut 9XG. The two standing behind me are Carnelian Facet 1M4R Cut 9XH and Carnelian Facet 1M4R Cut 9XI." She looked down. "I'm sorry that 9XH scared you. She didn't mean to scare you and she is very sorry that she did. Isn't that right, 9XH?"
9XG turned to look at 9XH. The two of them spent a long moment staring at each other before 9XH lowered her head and allowed her curved sword to disappear in motes of white light. "I'm sorry." 9XH said. "I didn't mean to scare you."
Ruby wanted to believe that 9XH was telling the truth -- that 9XH hadn't meant to scare her -- but she could still remember how she had also thought that the rebels had been telling the truth when they had posed as humans and then when their Amethyst had shapeshifted into Jasper. These Carnelian had not pretended to be humans like the rebels had, but 9XH had been mean to her and threatened her with her Gem Weapon.
"Could you tell us your name?" 9XG asked.
Ruby hesitated for a moment, but couldn't think of a reason she shouldn't at least tell them her name. "Ruby Facet 5L3G Cut 2XG."
"Facet 52LG Cut 2XG...." Ruby watched as 9XG scanned across her face, an emotion that she couldn't name all too obvious in them, and she wanted to look away but she couldn't. "You said that you reformed after you crash landed here?"
Ruby nodded.
"I -- I never thought that I would ever meet a Gem that wasn't formed on this planet." 9XG muttered. "I heard stories about other Gems from 9XA and 9XB, but I never thought that...." For the first time Ruby heard her speak solely as a Gem -- a Gem whose heart had been broken. "I never thought that they could have been right.
9XG looked at her. "If there is anything that I can do to help...."
[X] She should ask Carnelian Facet 1M4R 9XG, Carnelian Facet 1M4R 9XH and Carnelian Facet 1M4R 9XI if she could use the metallic spire their stone huts are built around to help her find the others. Ruby couldn't shake the feeling of being watched and it pushed her nerves over the edge. She didn't think that she liked it here anymore. Why had she decided to travel here? Why hadn't she chosen to travel somewhere else? There were sure to be other places that could hold something that she could use to find the others, other places that didn't make her feel like she was being watched.
The upthrusts of rock that surrounded the plain might have been tight nit, but it felt as though everything was open. If she had been with the others, then she could have been sure that they could handle whatever was thrown at them. But -- while she had all of the same skills as the others -- she wasn't as experienced as they were. Ruby opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out. As 9XG's words continued to register in her head, she couldn't think of anything to say. Her heart ached as she registered the sincerity in Facet 1M4R 9XG's words. She hadn't known how much she wanted a Gem outside of her platoon to be honest with her, hadn't realized how much she had come to distrust Gems outside her platoon, until she had seen the look on 9XG's face and heard the sincerity in 9XG's words.
Something sharp twisted in her stomach then as she realized that, while she might have wanted to hear it, she still didn't feel any less distrustful of 9XG. She couldn't help but to wonder if this was going to lead to another trick that would be revealed to her the moment that 9XG, 9XH and 9XI got whatever they wanted from her. She couldn't help but to wonder if 9XG, 9XH and 9XI would fight her and, if so, what would happen to her afterward.
She didn't think that 9XG, 9XH and 9XI could do that much more to her than the rebels had. The rebels had taken away her ability to trust easily, taken her platoon's ship and taken her platoon from her. 9XG, 9XH and 9XI could shatter her, but that was about all that they could do. A small part thought that it would be better to be shattered than to spend life without her platoon.
But, if there was the tiniest chance that 9XG wasn't attempting to trick her, a chance that 9XG was as sincere as her voice had made her out to be, a chance that 9XG's offer to help her was sincere, shouldn't she take that chance?
If she had been with her platoon, then she wouldn't have to decide. Ruby would have thought about what they would do, tell her and the others what they were supposed to do, and she and the others would follow those orders. But, she wasn't with her platoon. She was alone. And she had to -- she had to make a decision.
'I... I don't want to trust them.' Ruby thought as she looked toward 9XG, 9XH and 9XI. 'But... there isn't a lot of other things that I can do if I want to find the others.' She looked toward the metallic spire for the briefest of moments, took in a silent but deep breath, and turned to 9XG. "Can I... can I use the metallic spire to help me find the rest of my platoon...?"
9XG frowned, the confusion evident on her face. "The spire?" She turned around to look at it and then looked back toward Ruby. "How could that help you find your platoon?"
I need it to help me find my platoon. It can --" Ruby felt her heart start to beat faster, an unfamiliar panic trying to set in, but somehow managed to push it back. "It can help me find my platoon. Can't it...?"
9XG looked up, meeting Ruby's eyes, and frowned again. "... I honestly don't know if it would be able to help you find your platoon, 2XG. 9XH, 9XU and I use it and all the other spires like it as markers to help us find our way around, but none of us know what it is supposed to be."
Ruby tried to keep the panic off of her face. She closed her eyes tightly and just about managed to keep herself from accidentally setting fire to the area around her. She had followed the smell of metal here because she thought that it could be something that she could use to find the others. If she couldn't use the metallic spire to find the others --
"But...." Ruby looked up as 9XG pushed herself off the ground and stood up. "If you know what the spire is supposed to be and can use the spire, then we'll let you use one of the other ones that we're not using."
Ruby nodded and stood up to follow 9XG. She didn't know if she would know what the metallic spire was, or if she would know how to use it if she did know what it was, but she had to at least try to learn what it was before she allowed the panic to set in.
