[X]Solomon
[X]Hang out with Chris, make sustenance.
-[X] Look into ways to transfer Chris out of her class and into your class. At least you can count on Scathach to be firm but fair.
After a moment of consideration, you decide to stay at home. Partially because you
are tired from all the walking around, but also because you feel like Chris could use the company - especially after you promised her friends that you'd make the effort.
You grab your ingredients and head into the living room. Chris doesn't pay any attention to you at first, rapidly wolfing down her instants as she's watching the TV, giving you some time to set up and begin cooking.
"You know." You begin conversationally, as the program goes into overly long commercial break. "If Toth bothers you, maybe transfer out of the class? Or maybe talk to some other teachers about it." Chris however, throws you a dirty look.
"Hey, what's it to you?" She asks in accusation, her eyes narrowing as if you had some ulterior motive. You shrug, decide to play uninterested party to the hilt.
"Nothing really. But if it was me, I'd consider changing class. If she can really mangle students on their first day, do you
really want to stay there for two years? What else do you think she has in store?"
"Isn't she like, one of yours anyway?" She side-steps the issue, but you can almost see the gears turning in her head.
"I'm not even sure if she is Martian. And even so, it's not like all Martians are alike, you know." You say, frowning lightly.
"Sure they aren't." She snorts. "Besides, I'm not some dainty princess bitch. So kindly fuck off, okay? I can handle my own problems." She grumbles, clearly unhappy that you're pressing the subject.
"All I'm saying is that it's better to get out before things go in too deep, you know what I'm saying?" She shoots you a glance, and you raise your hands defensively to placate her. "Not my problem, I know. Just a bit of free advice."
She grumbles some more, but at least doesn't swear.
You finish your cooking and set about to eat, trying to remains relatively unobtrusive to Chris. She glances at your plate with some interest, but before you can invite her for a bite, she leaves for her own room, and doesn't return.
You sigh. It could have gotten better, though it also could have gone worse. You also now know that Chris wasn't the sort of person to accept advice easily, and certainly not from people she didn't know well. Which made her headstrong in your books, and a combination of short temper and headstrongness was never good. Especially if Toth was really as metal as Chris made her out to be...on the other hand, you had at least given her the idea. She might not think on it now, but at least you gave her options. Perhaps you should also talk to her friends about it - while you doubt she'd be happy about it, you think that they'd keep your involvement secret, and they certainly should know...
A part of you however - the small, suspicious, ruthless part that kept you alive in the gutters and alleyways of Old Earth - wonders if Chris is telling the whole truth though. In retrospect, you only have her version of what happened. You wouldn't be
terribly surprised if it turned out that Toth did in fact punish some student with take-no-shit attitude and Chris, being who she is freaked out that she'd be next. You doubt that she'd actually lie to you or anything, but an old maxim went that what people believed didn't necessarily make it true.
You sigh again. Not the sort of thing you'd wish to deal with, but it was better safe than sorry. You should at least discuss it with Instructor, if nothing else.
You spend the rest of the evening watching the TV. The newscast is appropriately bleak and grey - there are more bombings in US Mid-West and the clashes between NSF and National Guard are becoming more violent by the day. Russia is splintering, and the talking heads are full of themselves over whether the country will get into another civil war, or what would potential new nations be and how will that impact the ATO. There's more flooding in Netherlands, made worse by another vaccine-resistant virus outbreak. The only vaguely good news is that Chinese succeeded in making a new strain of cocoa plants that can better survive in new climates, so real milk chocolate should be back in shops in about 5 years or so world-wide.You try checking the Colonial broadcasts, but at this time there's nothing really interesting - though you do catch the rerun of that popular soap opera set on drifting Korean colony ship.
You watch a bit more - some TV series and a documentary - before finally deciding to get some shuteye.

You wake up early next day, enough to have a fair bit of extra time before you need to get ready to head out.
Beyond getting your morning routine out of the way, you decide to check on your emails. The first thing you decide on is whether to contact Chris' friends - Kaede and Tsubasa - and tell them about the situation.
[]They should know.
[]Let Chris talk to them on their own.
With that decision done, you notice a new high-priority email. What really catches your eye though, is that it is sent from UAC, but not one of their cut-and-paste dry email accounts.
"Good Day, Mr. Winters.
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Doctor Samuel Hayden, the founder and CEO of United Aerospace Corporation. I would like to personally thank you for selecting our corporation as the provider of your outer I.S shell and chief sponsor.
Our corporation prides itself on providing advanced, highest-efficiency solutions to any imaginable problem. We rigorously test and cross-check our designs, to ensure top quality control and maximum performance even under the most adverse of conditions. Selecting UAC is not merely a choice for performance or reliability. It is a vote for excellence. Our experiences in multiple fields additionally allow us to merge existing capacities in new ways, providing you with swift, effective conflict resolution methods that others fail to consider. Rest assured that by choosing UAC, you have chosen the option that will draw out your potential to the highest possible level and offer most diverse growth possible.
As the CEO of UAC, you have my personal assurances on the quality, as well as timely delivery of your project; which I will be overseeing personally. Our research and engineering divisions had already made significant strides in the I.S Technology, as we've been the first Colonial company to work in the field, and our projects so far had far surpassed the stagnant and inefficient designs of Earth. The Solomon Project - your
Solomon Project - will surpass those already considerable results.
As proud patriots, we are of course happy to provide you with any support deemed necessary. As you know, the UAC is the principle supporter of Colonial industries, and the sole sponsor of the SDF. We are always on the lookout for the opportunities to advance the cause - for the future of mankind is now linked to the future of worlds we inhabit. If there is anything you require, or if you are interested in forging closer ties to our organization, please contact me. I will be more than glad to assist.
In the meantime, I wish you fair winds and successes on the battlefield.
Best Regards,
Samuel Hayden,
Founder, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Science Officer,
United Aerospace Corporation"
You weren't quite expecting that, and certainly not a proposition for closer ties. In retrospect, you should have. You were a Pilot now, maybe not formally, but certainly soon-to-be, and as such you were now
someone. And of course, as the biggest conglomerate (that is, the only one) in the Colonies, UAC was always on the lookout for capable people. It certainly gives you something to think on as you get ready for the day. You briefly consider taking your pistol - standard plasma gel Type-12 handgun made by UAC, which finally got delivered yesterday, but ultimately decide against. This wasn't Detroit after all, plus you were pretty sure combat lessons wouldn't begin until later in the week.
You arrive to class a few minutes early, early enough that the class isn't full yet, but not early enough for it to be completely empty. Tess isn't around yet, but you can see some of the students you saw mentioned yesterday during Representative selection, and people keep trickling in. The Instructor is in place as well, idly reviewing something on a tablet while keeping one eye on the class.
Seeing her brings back the memories of your talk with Chris. While the decision ultimately laid with her, maybe you should let your Instructor know...at the very least, she could move the topic higher up in the faculty.
[]Talk with the Instructor about it.
[]Leave it be.
[]Write-in?
