In the bosom of the Earth - An underdark civilization quest

[X] Pale ones

As long as we don't go Kobold I'm happy. Nothing against them but they seem more like a filler race.

I get that Demons are cool, but my impression of "Ungovernable" is that even with direct democracy you would still fail to achieve anything without supermajorities, ignoring for a moment the logistical difficulties.

I would very, very, much appreciate if people voting for demonkin, would take a moment to tell me how they see the quest developing with a group of demonkin. How do you convince them that stuff was their idea?

I didn't think it was relevant until you brought it up, but now that you have, two possibilities spring to mind.
- The underunderdarkers regularly purge/plunder/raze/enslave settlements for cheap labour/resources/get rid of competitors/sacrifices to their dark gods.
- The underdark is actually heavily contested border between the great powers of the surface and the underunderdarker, their epic battles destroying entire fledgling subterranean civilizations

I like speculation, so I won't tell you if this is categorically correct or not directly. But I'll give pieces of answers as we go.

I can tell you that as the intro says, most surface dwellers ignore or fear the underdark.

I can also point out that someone engineered the pale ones. Recently enough.

There's ideological answers to be had. Direct democracy is still a bit mild to reach it, but it's a start.

The fail case of convincing everyone won't be dramatic though. Demonkin are used to running together without unanimous agreement. I wouldn't offer doomed choices. I'll offer multiple ways to handle organizing but the gist of it will be that people do their own stuff if they aren't convinced. Not really antagonistic, just less controlled.

Aah, the meta riot quest. I see...

Here's an argument for Demonkin! All the others are a set and self-contained species, but Demonkin are a class of oppressed people. The society we form--chaotic though it may wind up--will be an inspiration to the oppressed Demonkin of other lands, and we can offer shelter and aid to those fleeing oppression.

That kind of narrative speaks to me even more than the Kobold one does, besides the fact that Demons are just cool! Tieflings and the like are just one of my favorite things in general, and that plus the narrative makes sense.
