In Service of my Mistress (A Butler Quest)

[X] Percival
[X] For a few years. You're a second generation spirit, created by renewing the old one from so long ago. You still have a strong desire to serve this family, but it is not as binding as it once was. (The Second)
[X] You remember dying. Whether it was in a battle at the hands of warriors or being pushed into the dirt by less scrupulous foes, you cannot say. What you do remember is that you felt no sweet embrace of death. No slow creeping darkness taking away the light. No, what you felt was Pride. This intense feeling...it carried you. It brought you to countless battles, all of which you won. And every time you did, you felt the emotion grow stronger and stronger. Until one day, it all but consumed you. (Traditional Revenant)
[X] Respect. The kind that only a proud, honorable warrior can give.
[X] That no matter what events transpired, through hard times, through all crisis, you would defend the Foxrice lineage until your Second Death.

  • [X] That no matter what events transpired, through hard times, through all crisis, you would defend the Foxrice lineage until your Second Death.
[X] As long as you can remember. Your spirit still hasn't found rest, and that's just the way you like it. You promised to serve this family, and you won't allow something as trivial as death stop you. (The Progenitor)

Yours was a reign that lasted for a long time. Soon enough, you had built your own Hold that housed many a supernatural, all loyal to you and only you. However, it did not last. Two others of your kin, both powerful in their own right, brought it all crashing down. Your armies were dashed, your servants slayed, your home destroyed. You were the only one to escape...but it did nothing to ease your pain. It only hastened your descent into despair. (Vampire Lord)
[X] Humility. The kind only a wise, worldly soul could give.

[X] You remember dying. But, as your body decomposed, your Spirit survived. You aren't sure what it was kept you tied to this mortal coil. Regrets? A task left unfulfilled? Or maybe something more esoteric? Whatever it was, you were never able to find it. And wandering the world of the living when you are already dead is not something that should be done. Without a body, without a purpose, you began to lose your mind. (Displaced Ghost)
[x] Hope. The kind that only a true leader could give.

[X] Only very recently. You're one of the newest renewals of the original spirit and are still trying to find yourself around here. (The Newbie)
[X] You remember drowning at sea. Somehow, you found yourself not dying on the cold hard earth, but falling into the deep blue of the ocean. The burning water filled your lungs as you struggled under the waves. All of your fighting ended up for naught. However, you did not die. You made it back to land, and couldn't help but feel this Hunger. It was insatiable, unstoppable. You couldn't hold it back, and many died before you were finally stopped. By then, your consciousness was almost completely gone. (Sea Draugr)

@LinkOnScepter How many of the more esoteric powers does Vampire have? Shapeshifting, Weather Control, the ability to walk on walls, etc. Relatedly, how weak are we to the Sun?

Relatedly, do any of the other people got any Spooky Dead Guy Magic beyond what was listed right there?

Personally, I'd be up for having all the little tricks be more like spells than official powers. Maybe being an undead grants it's own sort of magical affinity and undead willing to learn or experiment with their powers can learn to do the weather control or hide-inside-paintings tricks while the ones that rely on brute strength or simply aren't that smart tend to lack them.

For the powers, all of them.

As for weak to the Sun, more like it's just a mild nuisance to you.

They have some in their own way.

All the vampire powers? Or just all the ones I listed right there? Because Vampires have a LOT of powers associated with them, few works giving them everything and just picking and choosing.

To be exact:

-Control over your own Blood
-Walking on Walls
-Flight
-Shapeshifting
-Mistform
-Mind Control
-Familiar Creation
-Weather Control
-And Supernatural Sense

Mainly because, these are the ones I can remember. I know I can't do every power as those have changed through the years. But I do mean to give you guys a good amount.

You're pretty fucking old after all.

You'd have enough time to learn all these.

So, Vampire Lord Butler named Claude, who has been around ever since the start.

The Scion of the Family was a simple, compassionate man who built his whole lineage up from the bottom.

Your Oath is that you will defend this family until you are finally put into the ground.

One possible question arises: Why haven't we been turning the various members of the family into vampires over the ages so that they can stay around as immortal vampires like us?

Possible answers:

1). Becoming a vampire doesn't grant immortality to the whole person. Staying after death is almost always a selfish event as the spirit refuses to move on. When a vampire is made, the process basically splits the soul in two, the good and noble half is suppressed or even cast aside while the evil and selfish side remains.

In a sort of Jekyll and Hyde situation, in becoming a vampire, a person would lose all of their noble and compassionate properties and leave only a wicked mockery in their place. A vampire may learn compassion or self-control later, but they won't be the person they were before.

Also, this still counts towards the soul's sins. When final death comes, the soul must answer for every sin made as both a human and vampire.

It would be cruel to subject our family to such a fate.

2). The afterlife is a verifiable place and it's actually not hard at all to get into heaven. Even Hell and purgatory are just temporary stops until you account for your sins, after which you can go to heaven and afterwards reincarnate if paradise gets boring.

Basically there's no need to turn vampire if you know you can get a good afterlife, and this family knows enough about it that even their worst excesses might result in maybe having to haunt greedy people as ghosts on Christmas for a few years before they pay their time and go to paradise.

3). Starting a vampire house is pretty much the exact thing that got us in trouble last time and that was before the Vampire Hunters got militarized.

Turning the family into immortal undead might let them live longer, but it would also severely tarnish the family name and make all the vampire hunters, the government, and our business rivals hate us even more than they might do now.

4). The actual ritual or process to make a free thinking vampire is actually really nasty and evil by itself.

Perhaps we became a vampire by dying in a massive battle on desecrated ground, our blood mixing with the life blood of friends and enemy alike while the dark magic of the place tainted our soul.

Of the thousands of men who died that day, only a hundred rose as vampires and even then two dozen died trying to kill the others.

We can make servants or lesser vampires, but they are all bound to our will and exist only to serve us. We would rather die our second death than see our family stare back at us with those empty servile eyes.

And forget about reproducing the event that spawned us. Just... no.

Vote's Closed. Sorry, I'll go make that clear soon.

Sup guys.

So I was planning to get the next Update in by tomorrow (as of right now Friday is my Soft Deadline for Updates, and Tuesday is my Hard Deadline) but then I remembered something....

Finals are coming up.

As such, I might need to postpone the next Update until they are over, along with me finishing any homework I haven't already done.. Don't worry though, cause that should be by the end of this week or Wednesday.

Claude's Day Begins
Ah yes, Lord Foxrice.

Your savior.

Your original master.

Your most beloved friend.

Even after all this time, you can still see his smiling face. His common robes that were always just a bit too big for him. The eyes that shined with a genuine kindness that you only ever saw in him. His hands were always calloused from work, sometimes to the point where they bled whenever he attempted to pick something up. But he never let himself show any pain. Not in front of you or anyone else.

"I don't want others to worry about me. Most of them have their own problems. They don't need me adding to them," he once said to you with a smile.

You look down at your hands and stop them from moving. Oh, the drinks are ready. You let yourself get distracted by nostalgia again. No matter, you'll make sure to apologize to the Mistress if you were a bit late.

You place the multicolor drink onto a silver platter alongside a glass of wine for Lady White. Holding the platter in one hand, you make your way to the garden area. It is a short walk, particularly since you've memorized every shortcut, secret passageway, and side passage in the entire household. You merely take a few steps down the corridor you came from, except this time you walk straight ahead instead of turning. It doesn't take much longer for you to come across a wall lamp sticking out of the alabaster walls.

Without missing a beat, you turn and pull down on the handle of the lamp. You hear a small click, and sure enough the wall in front of you pushes itself deeper into the foundation. With a small rumble and falling dust, a pitch black walk way reveals itself. There are no lights down the path, only blackness that any normal person wouldn't be able to see through without lighting equipment.

You are no normal human.

Your shoes clack against the tiled stone floor as you make your way down the hall. You should just have to keep straight on and you'll emerge outside of the garden within one minute. Granted you could've just turned into mist and faded through the walls to your destination, but you're feeling rather nostalgic today. The Lord Foxrice had these chambers built near the end of his life. You watched the workers as they put the mortar and structure in, helping where you could and supervising where you couldn't. He had these put in just in case something should happen after he was gone. He had become a bit more worldly in his later years. Though his immense compassion never wavered, he stopped being as much of a fool as he had been when you first met him.

You reach the end of the corridor and press a hand against the wall. You feel the brick fall inside and step back once the wall begins to sink into the floor. The light from outside temporarily blinds you as the sunlight comes in. You feel weaker as you step out into the light, stopping to make sure the wall automatically moves back into place before you head for the garden. You're not as weak to ultraviolet rays as you once were. At one time, they would completely stop you in your tracks, making you unable to move at all. Now though, they are at most an annoyance, which suits you fine.

It would not do well for a servant such as yourself to be so inconvenienced by the sun after all.

You very quickly find the garden where your Mistress sits with her guest. The glass roof sparkles in the sun, amplifying the light so that the vegetation may gain the appropriate amount of sunlight. It is easy to pick your Mistress out of all of the greenery. Her dress is exceedingly "loud" as they say, and can catch anyone's eye from far enough away.

She's currently standing over one of your latest acquisitions, a rare Ghost Orchid if you remember correctly. It's white petals droop low, making them look like a child hanging from a thin rope.

You hear Lady Catherine's voice, "Isn't it beautiful. There are only about two thousand in the world you know. I'm actually working on trying to get it to germinate with—oh Claude, thank you!" You smile as your Mistress turns and skips over to you.

You bow slightly, holding both of the beverages out for the two of them. Catherine takes both of them and quickly moves back over to her guest. The Lady White, hesitantly, takes her glass of wine before saying, "Thank you, my Lady."

Catherine waves her hand dismissively, "I told you, call me Catherine! There's no need to be "formal and proper" proper here. Now tell me, how do you feel about," she starts to lapse into rambling soon. Lady White, to her credit, stands and nods along as she speaks, as any good guest should.

You stand there for about three minutes, before tapping your Mistress on her shoulder, "My Lady? Is there anything else you need?" You catch Lady White looking at you with surprise out of the corner of your eye. You know it is strange for a servant to address their Master with such familiarity, but that is just how your Mistress is. She herself ordered you to treat her as you would a close friend, even in front of others of her stature.

And who are you to deny her that order?

Catherine looks behind her, still smiling happily while she thinks for a moment, "Hmm, oh! Could you go and get the car ready? I think there's going to be a stargazing event nearby, and I've planned to go there since last week!"

You bow with an, "As you wish," before heading outside. You hold your tie in place as you go, making sure it is as straight as can be. It should take you too long to get….there.

You stop moving, eyes being drawn to the household. From here, nothing seems too out of the ordinary. It's the same building it's always been, but you feel something.

A presence perhaps.

Hmm…

[] Go check it out. Even if it is nothing, you won't regret not checking later.
[] Ignore it. You must complete your Mistress' orders first and foremost. Everything else is secondary.

Sorry it took abit. Finals can be a bitch.

But now Finals are over, and I'm out for Break!

Also here's an Optional Choice:

[] Write in Claude's Appearance

You can put in a picture or describe it with words. Whichever works best for you.

[X] Go check it out. Even if it is nothing, you won't regret not checking later.

We should be able to check it out and be back in time to prepare the car before The Lady needs it.

[X] Claude Faustus
Theres only one real choice for a butler... (Though I regret that we didn't go for that kind of monster somehow)
[X] Go check it out. Even if it is nothing, you won't regret not checking later.
[X]
Were thinking along the same vein, but if we are Claude, why shouldn't we be Claude? It's not like we named ourselves Sebastian.

Oh yea, forgot about him, I knew I was forgetting a fitting figure...
Though I liked Sebastian better... Shit why didn't we name ourselves Sebastian!!!
[X] Trondason

To be honest, Sebastian's a little too...iconic for me. whereas I know zero about Claude as he's part of the noncanon season 2 of which I won't ever see. Also he's tidier!
