In Fine, Solum Est Tibi (A Quest in Rome, During The Fall of the Republic)

[X]Caesar Comes?: A New Tribune was arriving from Rome with the Ships and supplies needed to go to the Penninsula.

So my friends... Romans, Countrymen.

Would you like to see the business (Rolls) Of the SEnate this year, and see if any legislation of note was done to try and fix the problems that are plaguing it? (If any)

The Rolls or, Rome is on Fire, more at 11.

Also: Cicero is so important to the History of Rome in this period, he gets his own god damn roll when the Senate rolls.

Keep that in mind.

So Marius whiffed it?
technically he succeded in purging many of the Sulla boys from Rome, Strong armed the Senate into doing his dirty work, took full control of the Roman Treasury, has total legitimacy as a dictator, and is in theory the legitimate leader of Rome, as all of Sulla and his supporters have been declared outlaws by the Senate.

Here's the Onion.

Sulla, has the loyalty of almost all the legions, not only in Italy, but in Spain, Illyria, and Greece.

So, what is more powerful, the Word of Law... Or the Sword.
Also Marius lost the loyalty of the legions, lol.
His reforms totally backfired, instead of the State having the Army, it's the Legate who has the Army.

And sulla is the Chief Legate among them.

Ah, so more or less what happened in real life. Marius purged Sulla's supporters, then Sulla comes with an army to purge Marius supporters back, just harder.

"Cum Romae inspicerem extra infinitum horizontem evanescentem, apparebat sive verbo sive gladio, Roma arderet, et in umbris illarum flammarum reaedificaretur denuo a Phoneix resurgendo.
As I stared at Rome disappearing beyond the infinite horizon, it came to be apparent that whether by word or sword, Rome would burn, and in the shadows of those flames it would be rebuilt, rising once more a Phoneix.

Sed tunc quaerendum est, quid flammae illae, aut muri, aut fundamentum urant?
But then, one must ask, what would those flames burn away, its walls or its foundation?"

Uh there is but one problem here.

Cicero is a constitutional list and sweet Jesus will the coming years put him through the Ringer.

Hopefully. It won't make his writings dull or uninteresting.

I love Cicero's writings and it would be a shame to loose any of them.

Okay just because we have the education to reform the calendar does not mean we have the authority to do so… not yet at least.

I mean, it's not like we have a whole hoard of scribes just plying away at their craft...

[EDIT: Plus, I wrote this more as something he was chronicling as he was leaving Rome, not his final writings on the matter.]

I mean, we have Sulla and Caesar (kinda) so...I hedged my bets?

Jupiter above, would you look at the time!

Welp, so much for going to Pontus. We're smackin' down some Marians, everyone!
Wrong! If only because we are not in charge of our own legion.

Our legate is following the written orders he's been given, so we're still going to the badlands of crimien Pontus boys!

Mostly because Sulla wants to keep us safe and fighting Barbarians is much safer then a Roman civil war!
