For another game that might provide some intriguing insights, what about Disco Elysium?
It would be very interesting especially on cultivators that usually solved all their problems with their fists and money.
Disco Elysium would confront them with something they didn't want to,
vulnerability.
Also considering,
- Superstar Cop Raphael Ambrosius Cousteau is one of the best detective in Revachol and he still can do his job even when he's in the lowest point of his entire being, yet
he did it.
- Apocalypse Cop Harry is a mess of differing voices, political leanings & impulses that would overwhelmed any normal individual.
- Sorry Cop Harry Du Bois is a sad smorgasbord of addictions and mental failings, a person that already past their prime and tried to cling into their former dignity & glory.
A VR Disco Elysium game where you play as him would both pump out the most hilariously insane and the most mentally and emotionally developed people with everything in between.
I wonder just what techniques a player could derive from such a story. It perhaps would be an interesting insight into something along the lines of an Internal Family System style of psychotherapy (treating different parts of your mind as individuals who have their own wants and needs), and who knows how such a thing could be augmented by cultivation.
Plus, the simple introduction of actual investigative work in a cultivation world is somewhat groundbreaking, as in most cultivation worlds strength and arrogance trumps even the power of law. An investigative Dao would be truly fascinating to see, perhaps divining your opponent's moves and thought processes before they are able to make them themselves, divining weak points... lots of fun to be had.
The "Voices" have their own up and downs, Cultivation could make the voices "louder" so to speak.
I can see some cultivator that played Disco Elysium, get uncomfortable with the voices at first and after playing for a while, they got used to it, maybe even listening to their advices for good or ill. Then they exit the VR and suddenly, they felt their own head were "
too quiet".
The voices that usually intrude, gave their POV to what are happening, and trying their best to comfort them in the way they know are gone.
Now, they're alone in their own head like they used to, but why does it makes them feel
lonely?

Yes, it would be interesting to see cultivators trying to use Detective Power™ to solve their problems instead of seeing everything as nail and hammering it down.
