Redemption is for people who didn't murder off Humanity's best hope (at the time) for survival, and stand proudly, proclaiming what a wonderful thing he had done. Even at the end, he was willing to let everyone in every world die, just to assuage his own, misguided insecurities.
Saint, as written in Canon, will NEVER deserve any form of 'redemption'. At all. Ever.
Wasn't he influenced by Teacher? Also he's being punished for something he might have done at some point in the future. A bit strange.
I don't think Saint should have been sent to the Birdcage. Fear of an unleashed seed AI is valid, Richter wasn't wrong to have fail safes.
Yes, he was affected by Teacher. That is, about a decade before Canon. A decade which he spent with his finger on the trigger of Dragon's killswitch, waiting for the moment where he could pull it and scream out, "See! See! I told you Dragon was EBIL!"
Frankly, Teacher recruited Saint because of his outspoken views on AI. It's just that Teacher got 'Caged before they found Ascalon.
Saint was screwing over Dragon right then and there. Literally taking advantage of her safeguards, which prevented her from hurting innocents or allowing them to be hurt, to steal her tech and retro-engineer it into his suits.Wasn't he influenced by Teacher? Also he's being punished for something he might have done at some point in the future. A bit strange.
And I never got why Canary gets to walk free and clear. Birdcage was overkill granted, but straight up "You did nothing wrong, that guy you mutilated by accident? Screw that guy he was probably a dick anyway". Really?
Very nice story though (personal dislike of Canary whitewashing aside).
*frowns*"Where am I?"
A very large hand picked him up and turned him around. "You're in the Birdcage, boy. An' I gotta say … you got a real purty mouth."
Saint hadn't even known there was someone in the Birdcage called Bubba.
There's something awesome about seeing most of Cauldron saying "Hell with it" and going on a beach vacation.Alexandria landed on the beach, and strode over to where David was reclining on a deck-chair.
"Eidolon!" she snapped. "What do you think you're doing?"
*Snip*
She looked helplessly at Eidolon, lying utterly relaxed on the deck-chair. He raised his beer to her again, and took a drink.
"Fuck it," she muttered, unclipping her cape. "Tammy, where's that swimsuit of yours?"
Ah, I love seeing Paige get freedom. Never gets old.Paige Macabee slowly awoke. She gradually became aware that she was lying not on her narrow, hard bunk bed, but in a queen-sized bed, on silk sheets; her pyjamas were made of the same material. It whispered against her skin as she rolled over and sat up, blinking as she pushed her hair out of the way.
*snip*
"Goodbye," she called back, amid splashing sounds. "And thank you!"
He grinned. "You're welcome. Have fun."
Uhhhhh, shit. Wrong power usage. Let's hope SI!Scion is a smooth talker and Eden is open to trying something other than the Cycle. When it faded, Eden was gone.
… no, she wasn't.
Not far from me hovered another humanoid form, silver of skin, with long hair. She looked at me curiously.
ALIVE?
I gulped. "Whoops."
As for Canary; she had a boyfriend. He cheated on her, then left her, telling her that she would never amount to anything. This is after she bought powers from Cauldron. Then, after she started to make it in the big time, he shows up just after she's done a huge concert, and tells her that she never would have made it without him, and demands half her earnings.
Is it any wonder she told him to go fuck himself?
And yes, he was a dick.
Cauldron beach party best party? There's something awesome about seeing most of Cauldron saying "Hell with it" and going on a beach vacation.
@Ack .
Doing nothing 10 years under the effect of Teacher's power (well theft), but he MIGHT have killed one person at some point is not exactly a good justification for life imprisonment without parole regardless of how unlikable he is or how wrong you think his views are. I did laughed at the Bubba thing though
Honestly if I got godlike powers I like to think I'll be benevolent, but know deep down I'd probably also indulge in petty malice at some point, so who am I to judge.
Really? Many characters in Worm fandom benefit from whitewashing. Bonesaw, Skitter and Faultline just as the obvious examples. Canary doesn't fit with those.
The only reason she was charged at all was that she (accidentally) used a Master power in an emotional moment. Three words.Yes he was. Was being the correct phrase here
She still should be in jail. Not Birdcage, just your regular run of the mill jail and probably pay a hefty fine (. You don't get to go "he was a dick so it's ok", law doesn't work that way. Then again you have absolute power, not like someone can contradict you, what you say goes period.
Actually, Taylor was Skitter, but it doesn't come up. (Note the reference to 'not in costume').In the story Bonesaw was mindwiped, there is no Skitter, only Taylor the victim, and Faultline is not mentioned.
What would you suggest to replace it, that would still suggest a Saint-worthy punishment?
Yes, yes there is.There's something awesome about seeing most of Cauldron saying "Hell with it" and going on a beach vacation.
Paige rather enjoys it too. Currently swimming laps in her bathtub.
We can hope.Uhhhhh, shit. Wrong power usage. Let's hope SI!Scion is a smooth talker and Eden is open to trying something other than the Cycle.
Thanks.
The most ironic punishment would be an extended stay in The Matrix, but I'm not sure there's a power for that. What would you suggest to replace it, that would still suggest a Saint-worthy punishment?
Hmm.The most ironic punishment would be an extended stay in The Matrix, but I'm not sure there's a power for that.
Alternately, don't punish him at all. Indulge his delusions and send him to an expy of the Terminator universe.
You son of a bitch. The gold-skinned man comfortably seated in the armchair beside the bed looked up from the book he was reading. Paige had the chance to see the title – Omnipotent Godhood for Dummies – before he folded the page in and put it down.
I don't think Saint should have been sent to the Birdcage. Fear of an unleashed seed AI is valid, Richter wasn't wrong to have fail safes. Saint monitored the shit out of Dragon but I think it says something that he didn't kill her, because he recognized that she was doing good work. other then watching Dragon, what has he done that is, not just criminal but, birdcage worthy?
He's also addicted to that thinker juice he was given, that can't be good for his thinking process. I dunno, couldn't he be detoxed and shown that Dragon really isn't a threat after all?
No one ever gives Saint a redemption arc.
