Funny thing about that the amount of power manipulators in hxh kind of indicates preferences and meta beliefs if not actual meta practice near every specialist is a wannabe chrollo(to varying degree of success), you see similar things with people trying to manipulate post-mortem nen . I myself am partial to Conjurers and Transmuters. The idea of generating things whether through just having your Aura turn into it or having it be made from it appeals.

Speaking of that, even though it's probably too early to plan I did think of a Conjuration Nen for our MC that's recreating jungle plants, since he's made reference to it before.

Conjuration is more for creating exotic items with conditions or else using conditions to create large quantities(kotorpi), if you want to use an existing real item for something you use enhancement or manipulation, you can do a lot by infusing items with nen(Illumi's needles which can somehow let him shapeshift, or Morel the beast who did everything he did in the palace invasion at 35 percent), mind conjuration is perhaps the only way to create stuff like APR bar specialists. Hatsu creation will be a very interesting character beat look forward to it.

While manipulation would indeed be good if he had plants on him, I was more saying making them spontaneously. Granted having a Poison Ivy style ability to just hyper grow seeds by feeding them nen and controlling them could also be fun.

I have decent ideas for most of the categories, so I'm pretty fine with whatever.
I do think people overhype manipulation and conjuration though. Like, yes, they're good, but that's balanced by the fact that they're next to specialization on the chart, which makes them way worse at incorporating other categories. Enhancer is, ironically enough, the best affinity at making nen powers that span multiple categories.

Yeah mind I've always loved manipulation some of them are pretty insane all the stuff Illumi pulls I believe is just pure manipulator with some enhancement thrown in and palace invasion MVP at 35% Morel sure leaves an impression.

Morel's not a great example of a manipulator. His ability is Emission/Manipulation/Transmutation, which means it would be more effective if he were an Enhancer than a Manipulator, plus he'd get the physical buff. He's working against his Nen type.
Actually pretty much all his stuff is manipulation and some emission, manipulation has a fair bit of versatility.

He has a scene where the narrator explains it. There's a whole bit about how he's using primarily Transmutation despite that being his worst affinity. Like, the smoke isn't literally smoke- it's his aura transmuted into smoke. That's why he can alter the properties of it so well, and why he doesn't have to light up his pipe before blowing out the smoke.
If you want to check, his wiki page lists deep purple as those three categories.
Actually it can't be transmutation because fodder ants see it so its either real smoke or its conjured smoke transmuted, pure nen constructs are typically invisible.

It's explicitly stated as transmuted smoke. I don't know what to tell you. Maybe he conjured the smoke for the ants, maybe it was a plot hole, but the story states that he transmutes his aura into smoke.
