  • [X] Plan "Percussive Maintenance, Percussive Firing"
-[X] Use skill checks to get two Jerry Rigged oomphs to keep the Sensors running for this round and next
-[X] Fire into the Bandits to do as much damage as possible without raising heat
-[X] Cooldown 1 Heat so only 1 Bandit can act, letting Bow and Glimtara clean up shop and protecting the corvettes
[X] Bash the Bandits (use your guns to explode two of them, gaining 3 heat in the process, then vent 6 heat using hold it together.)
    [X] Bash The Bandits
[X] Fix It First (Create as many Jerry Rigged oomphs with a skill check, then just end your turn - dropping your heat to 2. This will mean only one bandit acts - and frees up Bow and Glimtara to start cleaning up shop.)

Lets seeeee

Diff 1 to make a Jerry Rig. And since you're using brawling to kick it into shape (an eminently HEAT system thing to do) you have a skill of 2, so that nets you a success +1 oomph, which means you have 2 Jerry Rig oomphs. Huzzay!

Now, diff 2 to shoot, with +1 add, -1 for evasion, will do 4 damage, +2 from the flack guns. That'll disable a Bandit. Then you vent down to 2 and one will act!

Not the most dramatic turn, but it does mean Bow can get to work without a ton of fighters throwing in - which, fun fact, is enough to break their morale and send em running!

CHAPTER THREE: The Great Wastelands (0.7)
Ajora scowled as she saw the buzzing spray of useless info from her targeting computers. "Come ON!" she shouted, lifting her foot up and kicking the console. The loud thump rang through her boot, up her spine, into her helmet. Glimtara laughed.

"Ajora! What are-"

Ajora kicked again.

The screen buzzed, flickered, and snapped back into focus.

"Hah!" Ajora laughed as she threw the thruster on full. Her back smashed into the curved edge of the seat and her teeth clenched as she saw the snaking lines of movement and gunfire - and saw her opening. One of the bandits was right there, right...she drew the bead on it and felt time slow and still. Her thumb jerked back on the trigger and the mass drivers rattled. THe Bandit started to tumble, trying to show its strongest points to her guns. Instead, several rounds perforated the blunt wing-shape of the left side, and fuel began to explode into space around it, tumbling outwards. The Bandit started to flip and over end as Ajora pulled away - watching as traceries of bullets hammered into another Bandit, sheering it in half as Bow's fighter whipped past her in a streamer of blue-white contrails.

"They're breaking off!"

Ajora watched as the surviving Bandits peeled away, their yellow contrails cutting through the air. The evacuation of an entire fighter group - especially one that hadn't come with support frigates or carriers - was a pretty forlorn sight. Nothing was quite as easy to gun down as a bunch of people running in a straight line, no matter how hard they were jetting. But the Turani were nothing if not...inventive. Two Assassin frigates turned away - and their hyperdrives began to open and sweep them up, and the pilots just...flew straight into the quantum waveform as it swept along the frigates.

It was a neat trick.

It only got one of them killed - sheered in half as they missed the angle and hit the edge of the hyperspace waveform as it swept forward. The mirror bright shine of the perfect cut caught a glint of starlight...and then the fusion engine released from the magnetic bottle burst - sweeping the half of the fighter out of existence.

Ajora breathed a slow sigh of relief - and watched as one Assassin started to get towed towards the yawning hole in the side of the Mothership. In an attempt to make life more difficult, the struts on the ion arrays were flapping uselessly, like it was a kind of a bird, but the corvettes had latched on in juuuuuuust the right spots to drag it and so were unmolested. The other assassin had two corvettes, and they hadn't quite managed to lock her down. The Assassin tumbled and the winking red beam of its ion weapon speared into the night, waving erratically.

"That's going to be fun to police," Glimtara said as she cruised to a steady stop within a stone's throw of Ajora's fighter. Ajora could see her craning her head, peering out and through her cockpit. Her soft, slow whistle came over the radio. "Ajora, it looks like your nose got a bit bloodied in there."

"Yeah," Ajora said, shaking her head slowly. "I should fly into the docking bay verrrry carefully, huh?"

"Think of it like this," Bow said over the other line. "Trajtaa is going to have lots of fun fixing it up!"

He did have a point.

Ajora began to squirt her thrusters gently - cruising towards the maw of the docking bay. The sensors being...shall we say...intermittent did make it harder than she expected, as the telemetry the ship was feeding towards the docking computers kept getting confused and muddled. So, Ajora had to take it in manually, frowning as she watched the guidelights through her screen. The yawning clamps that she flew towards seemed to grow larger glacially slowly - but then suddenly, they were sweeping out towards her far too fast. She tensed...and then breathed out a slow sigh of relief as they locked in tight around her fighter.

The cockpit popped and a grinning Sommtaw man looked in at her. "Good flying out there, Taiidani," he said, dryly.

Ajora swung herself out, blinking. "I didn't even shoot down that might ships," she said, a bit confused. "Not even an ace."

"Ace hell - we were all braced for impact and then, nothing. According to DC, you saved a few hull-decks a sudden trip to vacuum," he said, slapping the side of the Blade. "Better than a dozen aces, if you ask me."

Ajora blushed, not sure how to...to...

Well.

She shook her head. "Just...doing my job," she said. Her eyes fell on the Assassin. In the docking bay, it became overwhelmingly clear just how big it was - and by comparison, how big the Mothership herself was, that she could fit several of those things inside of her without blinking. The arrays were locked down and the gunmetal gray hull had been affixed into place by several huge gantry arms. She could see the microgravity harness clad, armored shapes of red clad Kushan moving into positions around the hull, taking advantage of the fact they could breach and enter the ship from every direction.

They had knives and shotguns and pistols.

Ajora felt a cold, crawling sensation shooting along her spine. Turani were pirates and...this was a war.

She could imagine those same red clad figures, grimly arraying themselves around a captured Taiidani frigate. The sudden mental image of Kaja in a corridor, pressed up against a wall, nowhere to run, nothing but her own hands and a pistol to defend herself. Ajora forced the image away before the red splattered and the eyes went dead - but the cold certainty of it made her want to throw up. Post combat shakes were hitting too.

Bow's Blade slotted in next to hers - much faster and more smoothly, the hallmark signs of docking by computer. His cockpit popped open and his own support crew started to bustle around his ship, and the sound of cheers and laughter could be heard over the sparks, hisses, and clamor of the repair crews.

Ajora wanted to smile for him.

Instead, she kept watching the red figures.

THE RED! THE RED! THE RED! TAKE THE RED AND A WARRIOR PRINCESS ONCE MORE!!! This is it, kill some pirates and make friends with the boarding squads, shoulder to shoulder in the halls of this ship we shall prove ourselves worthy of being Kiithid!

I wonder if it would be less bloody to just out wait the pirates. I guess boarding mechanics don't mean that it's a possibility.

Downtime! Motivated solely by us just having like four chapters full of combat.

Ajora probably knows enough about Turani to know about their family-crew structure. Like the Kushan, a Turani crew in a defensive boarding action is literally fighting for the survival of their family. Gotta at least try to head off a potential massacre. Plus it dovetails well from her vision of Kaja.

I think the Hiigarians will be smart enough to offer the Turani a chance to surrender, and maybe the Turani will take it.

Either way, time for us to slow down

Alas, no sword for them.

...yet.

Your Charm skill is 0! So, that'll be 3 heat, putting you at 5/6 heat!

Too late to affect voting, but is the Mothership engaging in search and rescue of the Bandit pilots that ejected or otherwise survived the conflict?

CHAPTER THREE: The Great Wastelands (0.9)
Ajora swung herself fully from the cockpit, her boots clumping to the floor. She heard clattering and barely noticed Glimtara running over to her, the cushy, shorter woman beaming brightly. Ajora's eyes were focused on the Assassin.

On the...

Kaja's body, thrown against a wall, smearing it with...

...red suited figures.

"Ajora, I-" Glimtara started, but Ajora started to jog past her, unable to even quite speak around the lump in her throat. She rushed past a few techs, dodged around a narrow protruding piece of emergency machinery, then swung herself onto a lift tube, snagging one of the narrow straps running along the corridor of...well, ironically, it was actually part of the ship that was in its innate gravity state: None. This meant the strap could drag her upwards, while Glimtara and Bow crowded in beneath her. Glimtara kicked off the wall, then again, then snagged the strap next to Ajora, swinging around so her feet angled upwards. "Ajora! Where are you going?"

"They're going to breach that ship, and the Turani will not surrender," Ajora said, her voice grim. "Those ships are their homes - that's an entire family aboard that ship." She looked over at Glimtara, frowning. "They won't have kids or non-combatants aboard - those stay back at their Entant's base, but..."

Glimtara frowned, but nodded, while Bow looked grim.

They came to the end of the lift tube and Ajora kicked herself off, landing with a grunt on her feet, as Glimtara landed behind her, and Bow behind her. The three of them saw that the command point for the boarding operation was set up - a grim faced Sobani man with skin so dark black it nearly matched interstellar space standing before a collection of screens, showing the helmet footage of all the marines that were already deployed around the Assassin. He glanced over, but before Ajora could say anything, Bow said: "Kiith brother, Lieutenants Ajora knows important tactical information about the Turanic Raiders."

"That's what they're called, huh?" The man asked, frowning. He looked like he was giving an extra benefit of the doubt to Ajora thanks to Bow - a faint relief. "What does it mean?"

"Turanic?" she blinked. "Uh, people from...the Turani Expanse."

"Hurmph," the man said, frowning. "So, tactical information - we'll need it, we've never breached or cleared a ship like this."

"The Turani are mercenaries," Ajora said, quickly. "But they're also...close knit family groups. A ship like this is run by the extended family that owns it as part of a greater Entant. They'll have left their non-combatants back at a safe location, but they're still kin, every single one inside that ship. They will fight like that. Ships like this usually have a family head aboard - they're basically Turani nobility, with land, except, uh, the land is the ship, see?"

The man's frown grew deeper. He looked at the ship. "Equatorial Hells," he muttered, making a quick hand gesture to one of his subordinates. She put her finger to her headset, murmuring into it.

"All teams, this is CP-02, hold on breach, repeat, hold on breach..."

"Rodger, CP-02, T1 on hold."

"T2 on hold."

"T3, holding."

"T4, wehave a partial breach on an airlock, should we stop cutting?"

"That's affirmative," the woman murmured.

As the exchange went by, Ajora explained: "O-One thing we could do is..."

[X] suggest ransoming them back (they are family.)

I want to see Glimtara continued reaction.

Hiring them has the problem of what do we pay them with, marriage might has a lot that might not pan out, so-

[X] suggest ransoming them back (they are family.)

[X] Plan "A Big Promise, A Bigger Harem"
-[X] suggest allying them by offering a place for them in the aftermath of all of this, for the Turani and the Kushan are closer to kin than enemies.
-[X] secure the alliance through a political marriage or adoption of the Turani nobility
-[X] Ajora's status as an imperial princess slips out from the Turani from the talks as they insist she is the one the Kushan must offer

Yes, it is basically option 3 but leveraging the Harem aspect harder. Who do you think we will get in this Homeworld/She-ra Gatcha Quest? Gotta catch them all.

I'm not big on our girl taking the red but be aware this would lock us out of it. Part if Ajora's value is her family so ditching that trashes is.

Also if we want to join a Kith we could easily have just ha Glimtara be the first spouse. From the Kushan pov we joined her kith, from the Taidani pov we linked our house with the new power on the block.

Hiring them has the problem of what do we pay them

The best thing the Kushan have to bargain with (other than RU) is future status (land rights on Hiigara) and all the various ways you would treat with another kiith alliances / friendships / trade / protection.

Unless I'm really missing my mark, the Kiith system and the Entant family structures, share a lot of compatibilities. It just requires someone to translate those compatibilities. From a Kushan perspective, an entant is basically just a kiith by another name. Approachs this like an alliance between Kiithid, and we'll probably have more success than we would making a similar offer to the Taiidani.

With that in mind, I love this as an end goal for negotiation:

[X] suggest a political marriage or adoption to get their extended family into your side (they're nobility!)

Love this plan too!

[X] Plan "A Big Promise, A Bigger Harem"

Esp since it comes pre made with a sticking point, namely, "Ajora is not Kushan and does not have a kiith, so she can't rightly seal the alliance between Mothership and the Entant. Unless...? (Background chanting TAKE THE RED gets louder)"
