Homeworld Remastered out now!

I only ever built one, because I didn't see the point in building additional ones... but they can dock? I didn't know that.

Well first, I only built the extras for that screenshot.

The remaster kind of fucked up HW1's researching. The research modules always dock together like that (when you get all 6 ,they complete the circle and spin.) In the original homeworld, you could research different things with each module, or compile them to complete something quicker. It also didn't cost resources, and you could queue them all up. They kind of sloppily hammered HW1's research to act like HW2's - so yes, in HW1:R, building more than one is rather pointless.

I heard something to the effect that that more Research Ship auxiliary modules you built, the faster research went. Is that true?
That is what building more of them is in the remastered.

Confused me for a moment when I saw a second one sitting there instead of some new module on the first.

Quick question. I just fired up my game this morning (I'm half way through the HW2 campaign) and the start window is telling me that I have disabled the Remastered editions in my Steam Library. They show up as installed. Bwuh?

I have a bit of a forlorn hope that the PDS mod will be resurrected for Remastered. I loved the fresh life it brought HW2, and I'd love to see what they do with the improved engine, too say nothing of hw1 units

And it turns out there is an effort to reboot the mod, which could be very good

I actually managed to fix it by running a verification of the local cache under game options. Looks like Avast deleted one of the .exe files.

Ahahahaha

I almost had an identical problem with AVG the other day, when it tried to delete an exe. file as a threat. Not sure why it decided to do that after running the game for a while.

By the way, for those interested, I kinda sorta posted an old total conversion for Homeworld 2 here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=399849926

But the real stuff is my Remastered version of the mod, thoroughly upgraded and enhanced: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=403171608 It is a total conversion for the Wing Commander universe, with functional tech tree, three new factions that you can use alongside the four vanilla ones, for a total of seven different factions in the game. The three new factions have powerful torpedo-equipped bombers and pretty tough fighters, but altogether slower than the vanilla fighters and bombers. Also, I gave the new factions' fighters and bombers a limited amount of fuel, making an attack on the enemy carrier a very good tactic to neutralize the enemy attack force. In addition to this, I gave all seven factions the capability to target enemy missiles and torpedoes for point defence capabilities. Finally, though I have to set up the AI altogether for the new factions, the mod plays quite well against the vanilla factions and... is working in multiplayer.

(the video was posted by dacis2 from SB and is from an older version, the current one is even better)

Bonus stuff from the duck: a mod to give all strike crafts from Remastered limited fuel, with the fighters crawling back to the nearest carrier when out of fuel. :)

Big major update to the remastered and classic editions. Steam finally hooked together Steamworks mod compatability for the classic versions, and there's been a whole bunch of Quality of Life improvements to the Remaster UI.

Oh crap oh crap oh crap. I'll have to check tonight if the mods are still compatible now, dammit. Though it looks like the mod stuff was for HW1 and not HW2.

Salvettes are love. Salvettes are life.

Damn straight! (for the record, that's the Return to Kharak carrier. those crewmen must be shitting themselves on account of my having gone "YOINK" on every Tiidan and Turanic ship bigger than a corvette between me and them. also because I'd stolen their Destroyer, like, maybe two minutes beforehand.)

Salvette game Stronk.

Speaking of salvettes, I want a game that's designed completely around stealing all of the enemy's shit. I mean with how it got nerfed in HW2 it's obvious the creators never intended salvette runs to be so gamebreaking. It'll have to be a bit more restrained, but that would be fun to play with.
